Background and objective Problems currently occurred in the environment are caused by a lack of environmental awareness of the community. Biology students learn the environment in ecological learning. Students must explore environmental knowledge (EK) and are expected to have high environmental awareness (EA) and then apply their knowledge in daily life with pro-environmental behavior (PEB). There is a need for designing climate-change book serials for university students (CCBS-US) towards contextualized learning. This study aimed to determine the relationship between EK and EA and the PEB of biology students as a baseline for designing CCBS-US. Methods The study used a quantitative descriptive method with a correlational design. Total 136 biology students from a state university in Jakarta, Indonesia served as samples of the study. Results Research results revealed a positive relationship between EK and PEB of biology students. There was a positive relationship between EA and PEB of biology students and between EK and EA and PEB of Biology students. Moreover, 77% of students reported their EK is very high, 55% of students reported their EA is medium, and 46% of students reported their PEB is medium. Ecological learning has a vital role in shaping the EK, EA, and PEB, thus CCBS-US needs to be developed. Conclusion The study concluded that there was a relationship between EK, EA, and PEB. The study recommends the development of CCBS-US based on the survey results.

Environmental education amid Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic requires innovation. The pandemic situation need to improving student attitudes in maintaining the environment need an improvement by conducting various innovations and one of them is ILMIZI learning model utilization. The research aim was to improve student attitudes with the ILMIZI model. The research method is experimental without a control class. Samples involved in the research consist of 61 students with a treatment of environmental learning using the ILMIZI model. The Instrument used in this research was the attitude instrument with a scale of 1-5. The research results suggest that t-value (.231) > t-statistic (1.67) indicating that the ILMIZI model is not yet effective in improving the students’ attitudes in maintaining the environment. The pretest score (83.80) and post-test score (83.62) are not significantly different. The conclusion drawn from the research is that the ILMIZI model has not effective in improving student attitudes in maintaining the environment during COVID-19.

Biology learning, especially the topic of plant physiology, requires Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). This ability needs to be improved with HOTS-based teaching materials. The teaching materials, however, have not been developed, especially those in plant physiology topic. Students’ HOTS in biology learning still requires an improvement as HOTS is important for the 21st century. One alternative that can be developed is teaching materials in the form of an E-Supplement Book Based on Plant Physiology Research (ESPPRe). The purpose of this study was to measure students’ HOTS related to the concept of plant physiology as the basis for developing ESPPRe. The method used was descriptive using a survey technique. The instrument used in this study amounted to 10 items distributed using Google form. The results indicated that the scores were categorized as low for all students (40.81) with male students (41.39) and female students (40.74). This suggested that the HOTS score still needs to be improved and it is necessary to develop ESPPRe in further research. The content on the ESPPRe media that must be developed is related to activities to analyze and criticize problems that have been presented in ESPPRe. Next, students are expected to be able to create solutions and ideas related to these problems. The development of various learning media will make students happier in learning. This is because HOTS-based learning implementation will be varied. This study concludes that the HOTS score is still in the low category and the ESPPRe can be developed in subsequent studies. Suggestion from this research is to be able to implement the book to improve students' abilities to solve problems.

The purpose of this study was to determine the importance of implementing disaster mitigation education in schools during the new normal era of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The method in this research used descriptive research design using a survey study approach. The research instrument used was a knowledge test with the number of questions as many as 15 items. The sample used was senior high school students who were randomly selected. The level of good and lack of knowledge is determined based on the average total score. Pandemic Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is a non-natural disaster that occurs globally. Disaster mitigation efforts need to be made when entering a new normal life after the physical distancing policy is relaxed. The purpose of this study was to describe the knowledge and participation of students in disaster mitigation activities during the new normal period. The research method used descriptive, data collection techniques through Google Form with a sample of 54 students. The results showed that learning of disaster mitigation education is not maximally taught at the university level with a percentage of 57.4% for students, who did not receive disaster mitigation education. However, as many as 51.9% of students had attended training in disaster education. Disaster mitigation education was important to do when a new normal period. That is because students are one component that has a role to convey various information about the disaster, especially COVID-19. This study concludes that knowledge and student participation in disaster education still needs to be improved. The suggestion from this research was necessary to develop innovative learning tools for disaster mitigation education in the new normal era of COVID-19.

Learning in the 21st century requires a learning innovation, especially in science and environmental learning. That's because solving various environmental problems requires students' abilities, one of which is Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The purpose of this research was to develop a learning model called ITA (Identify problems, Think and Write, Analysis and Argumentation). This research was conducted in March 2020. The method used in this research was research and development. Validation was carried out for 11 validators via Google form (online media), consisting of 5 learning experts and 6 science teachers. The results of the study showed that the ITA learning model was categorized as very valid with an average score of 3.52 which could be interpreted as an ITA learning model suitable for use in science and environmental learning. Other innovations to support the implementation of the ITA learning model can be developed to strengthen the use of the ITA learning model. This study concludes that the ITA learning model is suitable for use in science and environmental learning.

Learning science in the 21st century focuses a lot on caring for the environment. This study aimed to measure students’ HOTSEP (Higher Order Thinking Skills of Environmental Problem) in the context of environmental problems related to electricity. The descriptive method was used with a sample size of 50 students from several cities in Indonesia. The HOTSEP instrument consists of 3 categories of thinking levels ranging from criticizing environmental problems (C4), solving environmental problems (C5), and developing innovations about the environment (C6). The results showed that the HOTSEP of students was included in the “medium” category (50,41). These results indicate that the level of understanding of electrical concepts and their implementation at the student level in general still needs to be improved. Suggestions for further research, understanding environmental concepts of electricity needs to be introduced to students in general so that they can apply it in their daily lives for the better.

Corona Virus Diseases (Covid-19) has become an epidemic in Indonesia and even has become a global pandemic in 2020. Various impacts of Covid-19 is one of them changes learning strategy. One of them is the change from conventional learning to internet-based learning or electronic learning (e-learning). The purpose of this study was to describe the e-learning in natural science and environmental learning during the Covid-19 outbreak. The research method used descriptive method and data collection techniques using a survey through Google Form. The study was conducted during March 2020 in Bekasi city and Bandung city, when the Covid-19 outbreak began in Indonesia. The results of this study indicate that there are many limitations. Findings showed that Whatsapp was the highest e-learning media (65.54%). Related to the biggest obstacle is about internet quota in a cellular phone (27.03%). Then students think the video (35.14%) was the best type of file to be shared in e-learning. Then the majority of students (54.73%) thought that the most effective duration for e-learning was 2-3 hours. The results of this study indicate that e-learning was not yet perfect and needs to be improved. The conclusion of this study was e-learning needs to be improved and need innovation.

Salah satu masalah dalam pendidikan di Indonesia yaitu masih adanya miskonsepsi yang dialami oleh peserta didik sekolah menengah atas (SMA). Miskonsepsi pada materi Sistem Saraf secara keseluruhan yaitu sebesar 25.47%. Pada sub materi mekanisme impuls saraf mengalami miskonsepsi sebesar 4.37% dengan persentase jumlah peserta didik yang tidak paham paling tinggi dibanding sub materi lain yaitu sebesar 8.26%. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran Biologi berupa film pendek pada materi Sistem Saraf, khususnya materi mekanisme impuls saraf. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam pengembangan media ini adalah metode Research and Development model pengembangan Borg dan Gall. Validasi dilakukan oleh 2 ahli yaitu ahli media dan ahli materi. Analisis data menggunakan uji Kolmogorov Smirnov. Uji efektivitas menggunakan uji t. Hasil menunjukan bahwa media pembelajaran berkategori baik dan media efektif digunakan dalam pembelajaran.

Environmental education during a pandemic is something that must be focused especially on natural disasters. One of the skills needed to solve natural disasters is Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The purpose of this study was to describe student HOTS to develop a Disaster Mitigation of Flood based on the Online Learning (DIFMOL) model. The research method used descriptive with data collection techniques using surveys. The results showed that the student’s HOTS score was still in the very low category (33.09). This makes DIFMOL need to be developed for students, especially in aspects related to HOTS, which are still weak for aspects of flood disasters. Environmental education innovation is important to improve students’ ability to overcome environmental problems. DIFMOL in this case, acts as an environmental education innovation related to the disaster that can be developed. This study concludes that students’ HOTS scores are still in the very low category and need improvement. DIFMOL is suggested to be developed in the next research.

This needs to be anticipated, one of which is through learning This research developed environmental conservation model through Environmental Education Community Network (EECN) and aimed to know the knowledge and attitude on the conservation of mangrove and coral reefs on students through EECN. This research was experimental research involving 40 high school students in the Jakarta area. Students got lectures on mangroves and coral reefs as well as observation and direct planting of mangroves and coral reefs in Tidung Island, Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu, Indonesia). Knowledge data and attitudes were obtained before and after treatment. The results showed that there were significant differences to the knowledge and attitude on the conservation of mangrove and coral reefs before and after treatment. This implies that direct field recognition supplied benefits and changes in knowledge and attitudes on conservation.
