У статті подано аналіз наукової літератури та численних досліджень останніх років щодо ідіопатичного коліту у собак. Хвороба характеризується дифузною, запальною інфільтрацією плазматичними клітинами, лімфоцитами, еозинофілами або нейтрофілами власне пластинки слизової оболонки і підслизової основи, фіброзом і виразками стінки товстого кишечнику. Залежно від переважаючого типу інфільтративних клітин коліт класифікують на: лімфоцитарно-плазмоцитарний, еозинофільний, гістіоцитарний виразковий та регіональний гранулематозний. Дані свідчать про те, що запалення товстого кишечнику значно поширене серед собак порід німецька вівчарка та кокер-спаніель, яких часто готують для службового використання. Етіологія захворювання не є до кінця з’ясованою. Клінічні ознаки характеризуються дисфункцією кишечнику, що проявляється метеоризмом, діареєю, спотворенням або втратою апетиту, які часто поєднані із супутніми симптомами інших захворювань, що ускладнює ранню діагностику та лікування на початкових стадіях розвитку ідіопатичного коліту. В більшості випадків діагностика захворювання обмежується загальними методами дослідження, що дозволяє лише припустити наявність у тварини ураження кишечнику. Найбільш інформативними методами інструментальної діагностики є рентгенографія, ультрасонографія та ендоскопія – в основному мають першочергове значення. Одним із напрямків вирішення проблеми ранньої діагностики є проведення ендоскопічного дослідження з подальшим гістологічним аналізом біоптатів, що дозволяє одночасно підтвердити діагноз та диференціювати підтип запалення кишечнику. Також важливим показником клінічної оцінки даного захворювання є індикатор активності неспецифічного запалення кишечнику, який відображає наявність ураження певного ступеня. Своєчасна діагностика ідіопатичного коліту у собак, знання особливостей патогенезу та різних форм захворювання дозволяють виявити на ранній стадії розвиток патологічного процесу та застосувати терапевтичні заходи. При огляді та аналізі літературних джерел хочемо відмітити, що дане захворювання собак більш описано у працях зарубіжних авторів, тому вивчення питань поширення, діагностики, лікування та профілактики ідіопатичного коліту собак на сьогодні є актуальним у наших умовах.

Histiocytic ulcerative colitis is an uncommon cause of canine large bowel diarrhoea that is generally refractory to standard treatment for idiopathic colitis. It is characterised pathologically by mucosal ulceration with a mixed inflammatory cell infiltrate, in which periodic acid-Schiff positive histiocytes are a dominant feature. The disease is well recognised in young boxer dogs in the USA, Australasia and mainland Europe. This paper reports the occurrence of seven cases of histiocytic ulcerative colitis seen recently in the UK, along with the clinical signs, histopathology, treatment and post mortem findings.

Gastrointestinal ulcerations in persons infected with HIV have many causes, the most common being opportunistic infections and neoplasms. Recently, idiopathic ulcerative lesions of the colon and rectum have been described. Two cases are reported of idiopathic colonic and anorectal inflammation and ulceration which failed traditional therapies but responded to thalidomide with complete clinical and histologie resolution.

SAMUEL Wilks,1 in 1859, suggested that idiopathic colitis should be considered in a different category from specific epidemic dysentery. When Moxon,2 in 1875, joined him in common authorship of their book on pathological anatomy, he included a graphic description of what would still pass for nonspecific ulcerative colitis: "extensive ulceration commencing in the follicles and spreading from them to destroy the tissue around, thus producing a ragged ulcerated surface." Thus, for more than a century all inflammatory diseases without specific etiology were included in a common reservoir designated as idiopathic nonspecific ulcerative colitis. Since proctologic practice includes the study, diagnosis and treatment of all pathologic conditions of the large bowel, it is not unusual to find segmented areas of large portions of the colon involved in advanced stages of inflammatory disease. This is primarily revealed by careful history, thorough physical examination, and sigmoidoscopic findings, aided by the double contrast air enema and the laboratory examinations of smears and cultures taken from these infected parts. Such familiar pictures, in contradistinction to the acute forms of the disease, are variously spoken of as nonspecific, chronic ulcerative, thromboulcerative or idiopathic colitis. My own belief is that a combined designation (chronic nonspecific ulcerative colitis) is the most practical term, particularly when reporting this diagnostic condition to the general practitioner.
