Background: Erythrina variegata has been widely used as a traditional medicine. Objective: The study was designed to evaluate the anxiolytic and anti-depressant effects of an extract from Erythrina variegata. Methods: The extract was evaluated for anxiolytic and anti-depressant action using the elevated plus maze, light/dark box, open field, forced swimming and tail suspension tests in mice. The mechanism of action was further elucidated using high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection methods to assay the levels of five neurotransmitters in brain. Results: The extract exhibited significant increase in the percentage of the open arms entries and the time spent in the open arms in the elevated plus maze test. The results of the light/dark box test revealed a significant increase in the amount of time spent in the light chamber. Extract- treated mice also produced significant increase in the number of crossings and rearings in the open field test.In the forced swimming and tail suspension tests, the extract was able to promote significant decrease in the immobility time. In addition, the extract significantly altered the levels of five neurotransmitters in the brain tissue. Conclusion: These findings suggest that Erythrina variegata presents potential anxiolytic and anti-depressant activity, and the mechanism may be related to the alteration of neurotransmitter levels. Keywords: Anxiolytic; anti-depressant; Erythrina variegata; elevated plus maze; forced swimming; neurotransmitters.

Noise figure and noise power are detailedly analyzed and deduced in theory for multi-port network in active phased array radar. The mathematical expressions of output noise power and noise figure of network are given out under various conditions. Accordingly, this provides a basis of theories for multi-port network and radar receiver system design, the test method of array noise figure. Finally, two application examples are given to verify the accuracy of the formulae. Making use of these formulas, the designer can use to calculate the dynamic range of the radar receive system, and the designer can also constitute a measure scheme of the array noise figure for active phased array radar.

In this paper, the authors present sharp bounds of the Hubner function M , which is defined by (1.11) and has important applications in the theories of quasiconformal maps and Ramanujan's modular equations, by showing the monotonicity and concavity-convexity properties of certain combinations defined in terms of M and elementary functions. By these results, several well-known results for M including its bounds and logarithmic inequalities, the explicit quasiconformal Schwarz lemma and the estimates of the solutions to Ramanujan's classical modular equations are remarkably improved. A simpler and more concise proof of the series expansion of M ( r ) is given, too.

To compare the addition of targeted agents to fulvestrant with fulvestrant alone in hormone-receptor positive advanced breast cancer progressed on previous endocrine therapy; a meta-analysis of all relevant randomized controlled trials was performed. The PubMed, Embase databases and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched for relevant publications reporting randomized controlled trials between January 2000 and June 2016. Progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), and toxicity were assessed. Eight trials with a total of 2,470 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Compared with fulvestrant alone, combination therapy improved PFS (HR = 0.79; 95% CI 0.72-0.87; P = 0.00), increased ORR (RR = 1.70; 95% CI 1.30-2.21; P = 0.00), and showed a trend of increase in DCR (RR = 1.27; 95% CI 0.96-1.69, P = 0.09). In network analysis, only CD4/6 and PI3K/m-TOR inhibitors showed significant treatment effects with a P-score of 0.9999 and 0.7615, respectively. Patients treated with combination therapy developed more grade 3 or greater toxic effects (RR = 1.24; 95% CI 1.13-1.36; P = 0.00). Combining targeted agents with fulvestrant showed benefit but with increased toxicity in patients with advanced breast cancer compared with fulvestrant alone. Biomarkers for treatment optimization are lacking. The CD4/6 and PI3K/m-TOR pathways merit further investigation.

A novel phase modulation accelerometer based on self-mixing effect is presented. A quartz pendulous reed suspended by dual flexible beam is used as the first step sensing unit, which translates the acceleration signal to the displacement of quartz pendulous reed. The laser self-mixing interferometer reads out the displacement of quartz pendulous reed while the sensor experience acceleration. All-phase spectrum analysis is applied to detect the phase of self-mixing interference signals to reconstruct the acceleration. Finally, performances of the novel phase modulation accelerometer are measured by experiments. Experimental results indicate that the resolution of the acceleration sensor based on laser self-mixing interference can achieve sub micro-g. The phase modulation accelerometer has the potential to achieve high-precision, compact accelerometers.

The bearing capacity calculation in horizontal and safety assessment methods of high-pile pier slideway while large platform dragged horizontally to move to barge was studied based on the theoretic derivation and numerical simulation method. According to the research, the load effect of 6000ton slideway in the process of large platform dragged horizontally is obtained, the safety of slideway is evaluated, and the safety measures of slideway structure which should be taken during dragging platform are recommended. The results of the calculation and analysis show that the bearing capacity of slideway meet the requirements of design under the horizontal load of 11550kN by using uniform force to calculate, and the displacement is less than the width of the structure gap between two segments. The 6000ton sildeway is safe under horizontal load of 11550kN. These conclusions can provide the basis for the safety state analysis of high-pile pier slideway structure and the optimization of plan to move the large platform to load on barge.

In order to establish the virtual design method of shaking table test of structure in sine-swept vibration, the accurate sine-swept function in logarithmic variety is proposed by theoretic derivation. According to the numerical simulation, the dynamic response of structure in sine-swept vibration by multi-support excitation is acquired. And the maximum amplitude is less than that of structure in sine-swept vibration by single-support excitation based on the comparison with each other. However, several orders vibration mode are excited by the sine-swept vibration in multi-support excitation, and the structure resonates many times, which will increase the damage probability of structure. In other words, the load case of sine-swept vibration by multi-support excitation is worse than the case of sine-swept vibration by single support excitation. The conclusions above can provide basis for design and dynamic time-domain analysis of aerospace products of shaking table test in sine-swept excitation.

In order to point out the main factors in MDOF pseudo-dynamic test design of high-rise flexible, the key points in pseudo-dynamic test design using equivalent MDOF system were analyzed based on the theoretic derivation and numerical simulation, and the problems to notice in test design were pointed out, the pseudo-dynamic test results validity of high piers based on equivalent SDOF system was discussed, and the impact of high mode to the earthquake response of high-rise flexible structure was acquired. The results of numerical simulation of lumped-mass model prove that the contribution of high mode to the displacement of high flexible structure is little, and the displacement is mainly provided by the first-order mode, which is nothing to do with the selection of seismic waves. However, the high mode have great influence on seismic base shear and base moment of high flexible structure, and the influence level is associated with the properties of seismic wave spectrum. Under one specific earthquake wave, the second-order vibration may play a main contribution to seismic base shear and base moment of high-rise flexible structure. Therefore, it is proper to use equivalent two-degree of freedom system in pseudo-dynamic test of high piers. However, if using equivalent SDOF system, the structural displacement response is correct while the strain data and experimental phenomenon may be untrue. The conclusion proposed is significant in guiding the pseudo dynamic test design of high-rise flexible structure and ensuring the rationality of test.

Using the three-strut model, five types of frame structures, i.e., without infilled walls, with full infilled walls, without bottom-storey infilled walls, without middle-storey infilled walls and without top-storey infilled walls, were studied. The mode analysis and nonlinear time-history analysis were carried out on each model. In order to investigate the effects of infilled walls with different configurations on the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete frame structures, the structural periods, the ratio of Tt to T1 and the maximum interstorey drifts were analyzed. The results indicate that the infilled walls enhance the lateral stiffness of frames, and the configuration of infilled walls has little influence on the calculation of structural periods. It also shows that the weaker storey is formed due to the unreasonable layout of infilled walls, thus leading to the collapse of the whole structures under the seismic action.

In order to verify the feasibility and validity of frequency ratio as diagnostic parameter in structural damage detection proposed in the Musical Tone Law Method (MTLM), steel pipes and three-story steel frame structure model tests are carried out. According to the experiment results, it is clear that the diagnostic parameter is effective for symmetrical structure in structural damage detection, such as cable structure, framed structure, and so on. Model tests prove that the frequency ratio is effective in detecting the 3mm width crack damage of steel pipe. In the damage detection test of three-story steel frame structure, the parameter also successfully diagnosed the damage caused by bolts loosening at the node of model.

To compare the effects of adding targeted agents to standard second-line chemotherapy with a single agent (pemetrexed or docetaxel) in patients with advanced NSCLC, a meta-analysis of all relevant randomized controlled trials was performed and overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), and disease control rate (DCR) were assessed. The PubMed and Embase databases, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched for relevant publications reporting randomized controlled trials between January 2000 and December 2013. Hazard ratios (HRs) with their 95% confidence intervals (CIs), or data for calculating HRs with 95% CIs were derived.Fourteen trials with a total of 6922 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Compared with chemotherapy, combination therapy did not improve OS (HR = 0.95; 95% CI, 0.90-1.01; P = 0.081) but improved PFS (HR = 0.83; 95% CI, 0.78-0.87; P = 0.000). Survival outcomes did not differ significantly among trials. Combination therapy significantly increased ORR (RR = 1.83; 95% CI, 1.59-2.127; P = 0.000) and DCR (RR = 1.18; 95% CI, 1.13-1.23, P = 0.000). Sub-analysis indicated that adding targeted therapy to chemotherapy significantly prolonged OS in patients with non-squamous NSCLC (HR = 0.87; 95% CI, 0.87-0.97; P = 0.009). Patients treated with combination therapy had an increased incidence of grade 3 or greater diarrhea (RR = 1.96; 95% CI, 1.37-2.81; P = 0.000), neutropenia (RR = 1.27, 95% CI, 1.14-1.61; P = 0.000) and thrombocytopenia (RR = 4.21, 95% CI, 1.87-9.51; P = 0.001). This meta-analysis has the limitations of heterogeneity among the included trials and not using individual patient data.In the second-line treatment of advanced NSCLC, the combination of targeted therapy and chemotherapy significantly increased response rates and progression-free survival, but did not improve overall survival and was more toxic.

Background: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of combined topical with intravenous tranexamic acid (TXA) versus topical, intravenous TXA alone or control for reducing blood loss after a total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods: In May 2016, a systematic computer-based search was conducted in the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Chinese Wanfang database. This systematic review and meta-analysis were performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement criteria. Only patients prepared for primary TKA that administration combined topical with intravenous TXA with topical TXA, intravenous (IV) TXA, or control group for reducing blood loss were included. Eligible criteria were published RCTs about combined topical with intravenous TXA with topical alone or intravenous alone. The primary endpoint was the total blood loss and need for transfusion. The complications of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) were also compiled to assess the safety of combined topical TXA with intravenous TXA. Relative risks (RRs) with 95% CIs were estimated for dichotomous outcomes, and mean differences (MDs) with 95% CIs for continuous outcomes. The Cochrane risk of bias tool was used to appraise a risk of bias. Stata 12.0 software was used for meta-analysis. Results: Fifteen studies involving 1495 patients met the inclusion criteria. The pooled meta-analysis indicated that combined topical TXA with intravenous TXA can reduce the total blood loss compared with placebo with a mean of 458.66 mL and the difference is statistically significant (MD = −458.66, 95% CI: −655.40 to 261.91, P 0.05) in terms of need for transfusion and the occurrence of DVT. Conclusion: Compared with topical, intravenous TXA alone or control group, combined topical with TXA, can decrease the total blood loss and subsequent need for transfusion without increasing the occurrence of DVT. The dose and timing to administration TXA is different, and more randomized controlled trials are warranted to clarify the optimal dosing and time to administration TXA.

Background Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 (CDK4/6) inhibitors (palbociclib and abemaciclib) and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitors (everolimus) are effective agents for restoring endocrine sensitivity in patients with advanced breast cancer progression on prior aromatase inhibitors. We conducted a network meta-analysis to compare these treatments in terms of progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), and clinical benefit rate (CBR). Methods The PubMed and Embase databases were searched for relevant publications between January 2000 and June 2018. Treatments were ranked based on a network meta-analysis. Ranking was determined by P-score. A random-effect model was used when heterogeneity was detected; otherwise, a fixed-effect model was used. Results Six trials comprising 4063 patients formed the comparison network. Compared with everolimus plus exemestane, the combinations of palbociclib or abemaciclib with fulvestrant showed similar efficacies in PFS and no differences in ORR. For the CBR, palbociclib demonstrated improvement, while abemaciclib did not. Incidences of severe adverse events did not significantly differ. A total of 29%, 15.9%, and 4% of patients discontinued everolimus, abemaciclib, and palbociclib, respectively, due to toxicity. Conclusion These results suggest similar efficacies between CDK4/6 inhibition and mTOR blockade; however, CDK4/6 inhibitors were associated with favorable toxicity profiles.

As a common wharf structure, the high-piled beam-slab wharf is characterized by the cantilever slab arranged at the expansion joint between the structural sections in most cases. According to wharf routine tests, cantilever slab cracking is quite common. Relying on a typical high-piled wharf, in combination with actual wharf operations, this paper conducted the numerical analysis of the cantilever slab dynamic response under the dynamic load effect with its results showing that the dynamic load is the main cause for cracking. This paper suggested blocking up with steel plates should be adopted for reinforcement and reconstruction of high-piled wharf structure cantilever slab, with its calculation results showing blocking up with steel plates can effectively resolve cantilever slab cracking.

The accurate sine-swept function is proposed by theoretic derivation. The natural frequencies of five-story steel frame structure in transverse direction were identified by modal test. Based on the numerical simulation results of steel frame structure excited by sine-swept vibration, it is proved that the difference of structural response between forward excitation and backward excitation is little, and both the results of them can be used to evaluate the dynamic property of structure. However, it is proper to decide whether the response results of structure should be modified or not based on the dynamic properties of table-board. The conclusions above can provide basis for design and dynamic time-domain analysis of shaking table test in sine-swept excitation.

A method to predict pitch and roll damping derivatives of aircraft geometries with fins using an unsteady RANS solver is presented. A three-dimensional structured RANS solver based on the arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation with a dynamically deforming mesh algorithm is used and validated with the wind tunnel and ballistic range data available in the literature. Roll and pitch damping derivatives are calculated from load history of the unsteady flow around the model. A standard research configuration, known as the Basic Finner, is studied under forced pitching and rolling conditions. Pitching and rolling motions with oscillation are analyzed at supersonic Mach numbers ranging from 1.5 to 2.5. Predicted results showed good agreement with the available wind tunnel data.

A detecting method for motor rotor position was proposed based on image measurement technique.Firstly, the image of motor rotor was taken by a high-speed area CCD ceaselessly when the motor was rotating;then every two collected adjacent images were converted from a Descartes coordinate to a polar coordinate;finally, these images in the polar coordinate were calculated by phase-correlation algorithm, and the rotation angle was obtained according to the position of the phase-correlation peak.As the texture information of calculated image was related to the accuracy of phase-correlation,the calculated image was reconstructed to obtain an image to assure the right calculated result for implementing exact detection.Meanwhile, detection efficiency was required to increase,so the adaptive method was used in polar transformation, namely, only part of the pixels in the image was sampled according to the need of measurement precision.Experimental results show that the measurement accuracy of the proposed method is 100% and this measurement can be achieved in the environment with some different illumination intensities. Moreover, the calculating time can be reduced by over 50% as compared with that using polar transformation directly. The proposed method provides a reliable way for the detection of motor rotors.

One measurement of rotation angle about rotating object was proposed, it can realize precise and non-contact measurement. This measurement was executed as follow: firstly, select one image that it has abundant information, and the object which need rotation was pasted by this image. Secondly, when this object is begin to rotation, use CCD to collect the external images of the object before and after rotation respectively. Lastly, convert these two collected images from Descartes coordinate to polar coordinate, then calculate these two images in polar coordinate with phase correlation. The rotated angle was found by these steps. The result of this measurement experiment shows that this method can measure the rotated angle correctly. So this measurement method is worth to research and apply according to the theory and the experiment.

The requirements of the power supply design are proposed based on the principle of discharge process in depositing & welding power supply, and a depositing & welding power system schematic is designed according to the requirements. The control manner of the power supply combines RLC (Resistance-Inductance-Capacitance) circuit with fast SCR, and the deposition and restoration can be achieved by using the NE555 circuit to trigger the fast silicon controlled rectifier. Furthermore, parameters such as voltage, capacitance, frequency, motion mode of electrode are probed into, a depositing & welding test is experimented and the waveform of the power supply are analyzed. According to the results of experiments and analysis, it is clear that the output of the power supply can meet the requirements of working successfully and achieve the required standard to do electrospark depositing and welding operations. However, the actual working electrospark frequency is lower than the trigger pulse frequency added on the fast SCR, which result in a lower efficiency in depositing & welding work. Main reasons for this situation is that the relative movement of the electrode and the work-piece can’ t guarantee the best conditions for electrospark and the fast SCR in circuit can’t be reliably turn-off fast. These research laid foundations for further electrospark depositing & welding power supply design and efficiency improvement.

Secondary lining of Longxi mountain tunnel damaged seriously during Wenchuan earthquake. To interpret the seismic failure reasons about secondary lining, the analysis adopts mechanical calculation and numerical simulation method. As a result, it was found that the bearing condition of secondary lining has an obvious spatial effect when the local loads act on the tunnel. Due to the inertial force of local load exerted by vertical seismic action, the secondary lining tends to be cracking, spalling, or even collapse.

In order to analysis the seismic resistance mechanism of Staff apartment block of Beichuan telecommunication bureau (a six-storey-high masonry building in Beichuan County, meizoseismal area of Wenchuan earthquake), which just suffered from a moderate damage in the earthquake, ambient vibration survey and numerical simulation of structural earthquake response are carried out. Based on the ambient vibration survey, the natural frequencies of the building are acquired after Wenchuan earthquake. The first natural frequency in transverse and longitudinal is 3.45Hz and 3.65Hz, respectively, and the torsion frequency is 4.05Hz. The second natural frequency of the building in transverse is 7.55Hz, and that in longitudinal is not tested out. With Abaqus software, the earthquake response is computed out by inputting Wolong earthquake wave recorded in Wenchuan earthquake. The results of numerical simulation illustrate that the maximum acceleration amplification factor of the top floor in transverse and longitudinal is 5.28 and 6.68 severally. The maximum inter-story drift in transverse and longitudinal is 1/359 and 1/274 respectively, which are all exceed the limit of inter-story drift of masonry structure.

A generalized form of material gradation applicable to a more broad range of functionally graded materials (FGMs) was presented. With the material model, analytical expressions of crack tip higher order stress fields in a series form for opening mode and shear mode cracks under quasi-static loading were developed through the approach of asymptotic analysis. Then, a numerical experiment was conducted to verify the accuracy of the developed expressions for representing crack tip stress fields and their validity in full field data analysis by using them to extract the stress intensity factors from the results of a finite element analysis by local collocation and then comparing the estimations with the existing solution. The expressions show that nonhomogeneity parameters are embedded in the angular functions associated with higher terms in a recursive manner and at least the first three terms in the expansions must be considered to explicitly account for material nonhomogeneity effects on crack tip stress fields in the case of FGMs. The numerical experiment further confirms that the addition of the nonhomogeneity specific terms in the expressions not only improves estimates of stress intensity factor, but also gives consistent estimates as the distance away from the crack tip increases. Hence, the analytical expressions are suitable for the representation of crack tip stress fields and the analysis of full field data.

In this paper, processing characteristics and difficulties of drum with fold line grooves are analyzed. Three kinds of CNC machining methods, namely three-axis linkage, single-axis servo and two-axis servo, are introduced. With CNC machining methods of single-axis servo and two-axis servo, the spindle motor of machine tool needs not to transform. A CNC system is developed which acquires the absolute position on the circle of drum through the spindle encoder and spindle zero position switch. It allows simultaneous servo position and velocity control of Z-axis AC servo motor or both Z-axis and X-axis AC servo motors. With the changes of angular displacement of spindle, the system manages the interpolation motion of X-axis and Z axis, so drums with fold line grooves can be achieved by this way. Both of these methods have been applied to transformation of machine tool with simple, economical and reliable operation. This paper also proposes three methods to improve the processing efficiency of the drum: increasing a function of return to zero rapidly, processing with more tools at the same time, processing external steel sleeve with fold line grooves and then installing it on a smooth drum.

Earthquake input energy and structural energy dissipation are key indicators to assess the seismic performance of structures. To study the rules of distribution of hysteretic energy within structures, a 6-storey regular reinforced concrete frame structure model is analyzed through elasto-plastic time-history dynamic analysis using the El Centro and Northridge accelerograms. Based on the comparison between numerical results for the earthquake input energy and structural hysteretic energy under the minor, moderate and major earthquakes of Grade 8 and 9, the distribution of the ratio of the storey hysteretic energy to the total hysteretic energy through the height was further studied. It shows that the computed results corresponding to the two earthquake records are in good agreement under different ground motion severity. And the percentage of structural hysteretic energy to input energy is basically stable. The distribution pattern of storey hysteretic energy through the height is that the value of the upper stories is smaller than the value of the lower stories. And the ground motion severity has a minor influence on the distribution pattern when the plasticity of structure develops more sufficiently.

To comprehensively analyze the risk factors of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) associated with choroidal detachment (CD).A total of 265 eyes of 265 consecutive cases of RRD were retrospectively analyzed. All patients had systemic and ophthalmologic examination. CD was diagnosed by indirect ophthalmoscopy, B-scan ultrasonography, and ultrasound biomicroscope (UBM). Each parameter was compared between patients of RRD and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment associated with choroidal detachment (RRDCD). Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the independent risk factors of CD.There were 52 eyes (19.62%) with CD. Pseudophakia was more commonly seen in RRDCD (21.15% vs 6.10%, P=0.002). Intraocular pressure (IOP) was lower (8.60±3.62 vs 12.96±3.55, P0.001), best-corrected visual acuity was worse [3.00 (2.00 to 3.00) vs 1.92 (1.22 to 3.00), P=0.001], and refractive error was more myopic [-4 (-9 to -2) vs -2 (-6 to 0), P=0.007] in RRDCD. Eyes with RRDCD had larger extent of retinal detachment (P=0.007). In RRDCD, 34.62% of eyes presented with multiple holes (P=0.044) and 25.00% with macular holes (P=0.012), compared with 20.66% and 14.08% in RRD. High myopia (P=0.039), low IOP (P=0.017), and larger extent of retinal detachment (P0.001) were significant and independent risk factors for developing CD.For CD in RRD, related factors include BCVA, IOP, lens status, refractive error, extent of retinal detachment, number of holes, and macular hole. Larger extent of retinal detachment, high myopia, and low IOP are significant and independent risk factors.

A gender difference prevails in some murine strains of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model for multiple sclerosis (MS). Our results showed that castration of SJL males, a strain characterized by decreased susceptibility of males as compared to females, displayed increased disease severity. In contrast, castration had no effect on disease in C57BL/6 males, a strain in which no gender difference in EAE is observed. Regardless of whether endogenous androgens were protective in a given genetic background, supplemental androgen treatment was protective in gonadally intact males of both strains. These data provide a basis for the novel therapeutic use of supplemental testosterone for men with MS.

Increased golli MBP (golli) expression has been observed in the peripheral immune system of mice in the relapsing phase of EAE, raising the possibility that golli MBP expression in the periphery may contribute to relapses. Here we describe the generation of golli MBP-deficient mice and a comparison of the clinical course of EAE between heterozygous (golli+/−) and wild-type (golli+/+) mice. There was no difference between the two groups in incidence of disease, severity of the first episode of disease, or remission after the first episode. However, there was a significant reduction in relapses in golli+/− mice vs. controls, suggesting a role for golli proteins in the relapses in EAE.

Many computer models for predicting the risk of prostate cancer have been developed including for prediction of biochemical recurrence (BCR). However, models for individual BCR free probability at individual time-points after a BCR free period are rare. Follow-up data from 1656 patients who underwent laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) were used to develop an artificial neural network (ANN) to predict BCR and to compare it with a logistic regression (LR) model using clinical and pathologic parameters, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), margin status (R0/1), pathological stage (pT), and Gleason Score (GS). For individual BCR prediction at any given time after operation, additional ANN, and LR models were calculated every 6 months for up to 7.5 years of follow-up. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) for the ANN (0.754) and LR models (0.755) calculated immediately following LRP, were larger than that for GS (AUC: 0.715; P = 0.0015 and 0.001), pT or PSA (AUC: 0.619; P always

We performed a phase II trial of docetaxel in combination with capecitabine to evaluate the antitumor response, toxicity, and survival in pre-treated patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who had failed first-line chemotherapy with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil were enrolled in this study. Treatment consisted of oral capecitabine (825 mg/m2 twice daily on days 1–14) plus 1-h intravenous docetaxel (60 mg/m2 on day 1) every 3 weeks for up to 6 cycles. Between June 2008 and August 2011, thirty eligible patients with a median age of 58 years (range 38–68 years) were enrolled. Patients received a median of three cycles of treatment (range 1–6). The median follow-up was 15.4 months (range 1.0–31.5 months).
