BACKGROUND: Rotator cuff weakness is considered an important risk factor for shoulder injuries in volleyball. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate association of shoulder preseason strength status with shoulder injury occurrence in subsequent season. METHODS: Volleyball players (N= 181; 99 men) from Slovenian 1st and 2nd national league volunteered to participate in this prospective cohort study. Preseason isokinetic testing of the shoulder was conducted at 60∘/s in the concentric mode of contraction over a RoM of 60∘ with five repetitions of internal (IR) and external (ER) rotation. During the subsequent season the players reported shoulders injuries through a weekly questionnaire. RESULTS: During the season we have registered 14 (7.7%) shoulder injuries (10 in men). All injuries affected the dominant shoulder. There was significant preseason weakness of ER and lower ER/IR strength ratio in players with shoulder injury. Normal strength ratio ER/IR was a significant protective factor (Exp (B) = 0.217, 95% C.I. 0.058–0.811) for shoulder injury occurrence when controlled for sex and previous injury. CONCLUSIONS: The inclusion of systematic strengthening of the external rotators of the shoulder is necessary, especially for male volleyball players, as part of preventive measures for the prevention of shoulder injuries.

Natural disasters that cause tremendous material harm and threaten human lives, infrastructure, and economic and social activities become more frequent. While most material and human casualties are the effects of sudden and brief natural disasters, it is not possible to disregard long-term disasters, most frequently triggered by climate change. Damage from long-term disasters is quite significant and hampers the sustainability of the economy and life in densely populated cities. Following climate change, it is concluded that special attention should be paid to coastal cities, cities along rivers and the potential risks of possible disasters should be reduced before they materialize. The reduction of disaster risk is an endeavor involving various professional fields, viewpoints, and stakeholders. An integrated approach that brings together all the necessary elements is therefore required. The planning for protection against natural disasters and in the very moments when it occurs, it is necessary to quickly obtain reliable data to coordinate activities in the field well. However, there are problems in the field with the availability, access, and spatial data use. In this sense, the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) can provide an appropriate framework for sharing spatial data through the cooperation of administration, public, and private institutions and citizens.

Background/Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Lactobacillus reuteri lozenges as an adjunctive therapeutic agent in combination with scaling and root planning in a randomized, clinical trial of volunteers with periodontitis stage IV. Material and Methods: The study included 40 patients diagnosed with periodontitis divided into 2 groups of 20 patients by random sample method. The first group of patients used Lactobacillus reuteri lozenges after nonsurgical periodontal therapy for a period of 40 days while the second group of patients was treated with non-surgical periodontal therapy without lozenges. Periodontal clinical parameters were registered for all patients before treatment and after 40 days. Samples of saliva from patients before and 40 days after treatment were analyzed by the PCR method for pathogens Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Prevotella intermedia. Assessments were made on day 0 before treatment for patients of both groups and after 40 days. Results: Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Porphyromonas gingivalis show a statistically significant difference between the two study groups. Results were not statistically significant for Prevotella intermedia (P= 0.5598). Conclusions: The present study confirms the positive effects of L. reuteri lozenges after non-surgical periodontal therapy and the maintenance phase of periodontal treatment. Considering the beneficial effects of probiotics, L. reuteri could serve as a useful adjunct or maybe even as an alternative to periodontal treatment when scaling and root planning might be contraindicated or has to be postponed.

The research is focused on the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia – March 2020. The subject of the research are humorous messages related to the pandemic. By combining quantitative and qualitative methods, this research showed how the interviewed respondents experienced the received humorous content related to the coronavirus and what content characteristics of the humorous messages were detected through the content analysis.

Propionic acidemia is a rare autosomal recessive inborn error of metabolism caused by a deficiency of propionyl CoA carboxylase which often manifests with frequent metabolic decompensations and risk of neurological injury. Outcomes with medical therapy remain suboptimal. Liver transplantation has been shown to be a therapeutic option for patients and results in a milder phenotype of the disease and partial correction of the enzyme defect. Liver transplantation has been increasingly reported over the last decade and experience in managing these patients is improving. Long-term outcomes are generally good; however, the risk of complications still exists despite transplantation. We report a child who presented with a fatal metabolic stroke 11 years post liver transplant without any biochemical evidence of decompensation. We highlight the need to closely monitor these patients lifelong despite liver transplantation and maintain multidisciplinary working between hepatology and metabolic clinicians.

Karuc, J, Mišigoj-Duraković, M, Šarlija, M, Marković, G, Hadžić, V, Trošt-Bobić, T, and Sorić, M. Can injuries be predicted by functional movement screen in adolescents? The application of machine learning. J Strength Cond Res 35(4): 910-919, 2021-This study used machine learning (ML) to predict injuries among adolescents by functional movement testing. This research is a part of the CRO-PALS study conducted in a representative sample of adolescents and analyses for this study are based on nonathletic (n = 364) and athletic (n = 192) subgroups of the cohort (16-17 years). Sex, age, body mass index (BMI), body fatness, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), training hours per week, Functional Movement Screen (FMS), and socioeconomic status were assessed at baseline. A year later, data on injury occurrence were collected. The optimal cut-point of the total FMS score for predicting injury was calculated using receiver operating characteristic curve. These predictors were included in ML analyses with calculated metrics: area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, and odds ratio (95% confidence interval [CI]). Receiver operating characteristic curve analyses with associated criterium of total FMS score12 showed AUC of 0.54 (95% CI: 0.48-0.59) and 0.56 (95% CI: 0.47-0.63), for the nonathletic and athletic youth, respectively. However, in the nonathletic subgroup, ML showed that the Naïve Bayes exhibited highest AUC (0.58), whereas in the athletic group, logistic regression was demonstrated as the model with the best predictive accuracy (AUC: 0.62). In both subgroups, with given predictors: sex, age, BMI, body fat percentage, MVPA, training hours per week, socioeconomic status, and total FMS score, ML can give a more accurate prediction then FMS alone. Results indicate that nonathletic boys who have lower-body fat could be more prone to suffer from injury incidence, whereas among athletic subjects, boys who spend more time training are at a higher risk of being injured. Conclusively, total FMS cut-off scores for each subgroup did not successfully discriminate those who suffered from those who did not suffer from injury, and, therefore, our research does not support FMS as an injury prediction tool.

We described a five-year-old boy who presented with acute liver failure of indeterminate aetiology, requiring urgent liver transplant. Post-operative course was complicated by pancytopaenia, hypogammaglobulinaemia and cerebral lesions, histologically confirmed as EBV-driven post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease. Genetic testing showed XLP1 mutation, prompting matched-unrelated haematopoietic stem cell transplant to cure his primary immunodeficiency.

Objectives This study examined the relationship between functional movement and physical activity (PA) levels in adolescents. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting This research is a part of the CRO-PALS longitudinal study conducted in a random sample of adolescents in Zagreb at the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb, Croatia. Participants Seven hundred and twenty-five adolescents aged between 16 and 17 years were included. Main outcome measure Total Functional Movement Screen score (total FMS score). Results After adjusting for age, body fat and SES, both VPA and MVPA showed minor but significant effects on total FMS score among girls (β = 0.011, p = 0.001, β = 0.005, p = 0.006, respectively), but not in boys (β = 0.004, p = 0.158; β = 0.000, p = 0.780). Regarding PA type, volleyball and dance improved total FMS score (β = 1.003, p = 0.071; β = 0.972, p = 0.043, respectively), while football was associated with lower FMS score (β = −0.569, p = 0.118). Conclusion Results suggest that the PA level is positively associated with the functional movement in adolescent girls, but not in boys, where the type of PA moderates these associations. Therefore, functional movement patterns incorporated into physical education curriculum could be beneficial to the musculoskeletal health of the children.

Intradialytic cycling is a widely used workout mode, whereas added benefit of other exercise modalities remains unknown. This is the first randomised controlled trial on the effects and sustainability of functional training and counselling in addition to intradialytic cycling. Patients were randomly assigned to a kinesiologist-guided functional training in addition to intradialytic cycling (n = 20, experimental group) or intradialytic cycling only (n = 20, control group) over 16 weeks. The experimental group attended predialysis functional exercise in the first eight weeks and afterward performed functional training at home for the next eight weeks. The primary study endpoint was 10-repetition-sit-to-stand test time at eight weeks: at this test, the experimental group improved significantly better than controls (−4.5 ± 1.9 s, 95%CI −8.4 to −0.7; P = 0.021), which was maintained at week 16 (−4.7 ± 2.1 s, 95%CI −9.0 to −0.3; P = 0.037). Background/Aim: Potentially malignant oral lesions (PMOL) are lesions that have an increased risk of malignant transformation concerning healthy oral mucosa. This research aimed to assess the knowledge of students of final years of study on the potentially malignant lesions of the oral cavity. Material and Methods: 120 students of the fourth and fifth years of study participated in this research,60 respondents were fourth-year students, 60 respondents were fifth-year students. All of the respondents signed informed consent.According to the type of research, this is a cross-sectional study which was conducted by completing a 15-item questionnaire. The results were statistically analyzed and processed in the SPSS Statistics 21.0 program. Results: The results indicate that during the clinical examination the fourth and fifth-year students examine the oral mucosa as well. 61% of the students find themselves poorly informed on the PMOL. In the fourth year of study, only 5,5% of students responded that they were well informed, while in the fifth year that number totaled 28,5%. When knowledge self-assessment is concerned the difference has shown itself to be statistically significant between the fourth and fifth-year students. When asked what knowledge on the prevention of oral cancer they expect to receive during their studies, 78% of the students expected more knowledge than at that moment - 36% of which were fifth-year students, and 42% were fourth-year students. Conclusions: Even though the oral cavity is easily accessible to examination, the discovery of oral cancer occurs quite late. Ours, as well as results of other studies, impose the need for better theoretical and practical education of the students.

Although prostate cancer accounts for the highest number of newly diagnosed cases of cancer in men, it represents a specific diagnostic challenge in modern oncology. The standard diagnosis of prostatic carcinoma begins with the screening of serum concentrations of PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen). If the concentration of serum PSA levels is above 4 ng/mL, the patient is further referred to a digital rectal examination in order to determine an increase in prostate volume. In cases where enlargement of the prostate is observed, the next step is biopsy of prostate tissue. This physically painful and invasive approach to confirm the diagnosis is often unnecessary because, in many cases, the patohistologic analysis determines diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia, and not a tumor. In this study, we investigated the possibilities of detection and measurement of the relative level of gene expression of the KLK3 (Kallikrein-related peptidase 3), PCA3 (Prostate Cancer Gene 3) and TEMPRSS: ERG (Transmembrane protease serine2 and in-ETS erythroblostosis virus E26 oncogene homolog) genes from the urine samples of patients with prostatic diseases and healthy controls. Urine was the sample of choice because it is taken in a non-invasive manner, and could potentially serve to make better selection to biopsy. One of the selected genes (KLK3) differed significantly in the samples of various pathological conditions of the prostate, and therefore we consider that its further investigation is reasonable.

Background/Aim: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a diagnostic challenge, particularly in prehospital care. The aim of this study was to determine to what extent the evaluation of D-dimer value helps physicians with differentiation of PE and whether D-dimer values are in correlation with the values of revised Geneva score. Methods: Data have been collected for the patients whose D-dimer has been evaluated at the Emergency Care Department of the City of Banja Luka in 2018. Gender, age, symptoms, working diagnosis and D-dimer value have all been recorded and also the fact whether the patient was referred to hospital treatment or not. For each patient the revised Geneva score was determined. Results: Sixty-eight tests were done in 2018. Out of 68 tests, 41 were negative (60.3 %). D-dimer results helped in making decisions about referring patients to the hospital or not (ch2 = 36.32, p < 0.001). Patients with elevated D-dimer levels, especially where the values were four times higher than the reference ones typically were referred to hospital treatment, whereas 67.5% patients with negative D-dimer results were sent home after giving a treatment and advice. In the elderly patients D-dimer was statistically more positive (F = 10.82, p < 0.001). Values of D-dimer were not significantly different regarding gender (ch2 = 2.19, p = 0.33). According to the results of the revised Geneva score, 5.1 % of patients had high risk of PTE, while moderate and low risk had 47.5 % each. Although it has been found that the values of D-dimer were slightly more elevated at higher values of the revised Geneva score and that the difference was not statistically significant (ch2 = 7.71, p = 0.10). Conclusion: Values of D-dimer considerably helped in differentiation of PE in the Emergency Care Department. D-dimer has a high negative predictive value and should be used to exclude PE diagnosis for patients with low clinical probability of PE.

Higher education in the Republic of Serbia needs to be reformed. This paper presents a performance analysis of the changes that the authors assume are mandatory, presenting the research problem this article addresses. Cabinet research, performed by analyzing the theoretical building blocks of available knowledge and experience, is underway. Articles and studies from various publications, such as academic journals and institutes, were used as sources. In addition, academic articles and papers and studies about artificial intelligence, machine learning, and extended reality were also consulted. The authors consider that these technologies could be of great assistance in developing a new higher education strategy. Further, this research is exploratory given that information from the 100 Serbian students from selected higher education institutions was used to better understand if these technologies are welcomed by students. Based on SmartPls software, the research analysis proved that artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are appropriate technologies implemented in higher education institutions (HEI) to develop skills among students, a collaborative learning environment, and an accessible research environment. Additionally, extended reality (XR) facilitates increased motivation, engagement, and learning-by-doing activities between students, offering a realistic environment for learning.

Background Diabetes mellitus and the associated neuropathic complications have become a steadily increasing global health burden. Diabetic patients are estimated to require surgery at least twice as often as nondiabetic patients. Neuropathy may change the way nerves respond to nerve blocks. There is currently no consensus on whether regional anaesthesia techniques should be adopted in these patients. Long-acting local anaesthetics ( e.g . bupivacaine HCl) or sustained-release formulations of bupivacaine ( e.g . liposomal bupivacaine) could prove neurotoxic in the presence of diabetic neuropathy. The aim of the study was to assess neurotoxicity of liposome bupivacaine in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice after sciatic nerve block using a reduction in fibre density and decreased myelination assessed by G-ratio as an indicator of local anaesthetic neurotoxicity. Results Prior to performing sciatic nerve block, higher levels of fasting glucose were recorded in diabetic mice compared to nondiabetic mice ( P < 0.001). Likewise, significant differences were noted in the tail flick and plantar test thermal latencies between the groups ( P < 0.001) which confirmed the presence of peripheral sensory neuropathy in diabetic mice. In both, diabetic and nondiabetic mice, sciatic nerve block with 0.25% bupivacaine HCl resulted in a significantly greater G-ratio (axon diameter/large fibre diameter) and an axon diameter compared to nerves treated with 1.3% liposomal bupivacaine or saline (0.9% sodium chloride) ( P < 0.01 ). Moreover, sciatic nerve block with 0.25% bupivacaine HCl resulted in higher fibre density and large fibre and axon diameters compared to the control (untreated) sciatic nerves in both STZ-induced diabetic ( P < 0.05 ) and nondiabetic mice ( P < 0.01 ). No evidence of acute or chronic inflammation was observed in any of the treatment groups. Conclusions Under the conditions of this study, sciatic nerve block with bupivacaine HCl, but not liposome bupivacaine or saline, resulted in histomorphometric indices of neurotoxicity. The presence of diabetes did not appear to affect the severity of the histologic findings.

IntroductionResistance training (RT) combined with aerobic training (AT) enhances the effects of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). However, it remains to be investigated which type of RT (high loads (HLs) vs low loads (LLs)) is more efficacious in improving exercise performance, cardio-metabolic health and quality of life.Methods and analysisA randomised, controlled, clinical trial will enrol 20 patients with CAD into each of three study arms (total 60 patients): HL-RT (70%–80% of one repetition maximum (1-RM)) combined with AT; LL-RT (30%–40% of 1-RM) combined with AT and AT alone as standard care. Primary outcomes (maximal aerobic capacity, maximal leg isometric strength) will be assessed at baseline and after 36 training sessions. Other outcomes will include acute haemodynamic responses to LL-RT and HL-RT, body composition, physical performance, blood biomarkers (lipids, glucose metabolism, inflammation, growth factors), physical activity and quality of life. The intention-to-treat principle will be used to analyse the data.Ethics and disseminationThe study design and protocol have been approved by the National Medical Ethics Committee of Slovenia (registration number: 0120-573/2019/15). The study will be conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. The results of the study will be published as peer-reviewed manuscripts and congress presentations, communicated with patients and the clinical community, and shared through posts on social media. The findings of the study will be disseminated among the national CR clinical community (CR centres, Slovenian association of coronary clubs) with active participation of the patients enrolled in the study. This study will expand our knowledge of RT in combination with AT in CR. We expect to find different effects of HL-RT versus LL-RT, with implications for RT strategies in rehabilitation of patients with CAD.Trial registration numberNCT04638764.

Physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) levels in healthy adults are predominately based on self-reporting measures, which generally overestimate PA but underestimate SB. Patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) eligible for cardiac rehabilitation (CR) follow an individualized program, thus, objective assessment of physical performance and regular daily activity is required. This study aimed to compare self-reported and objectively measured PA and SB in patients with CAD prior to out-patient CR. We included 91 patients with CAD and assessed their PA with an accelerometer for 8 days prior to CR, along with the short form of the international physical activity questionnaire. We found that most patients were sedentary (61%, ~8 h/day), and on average performed 63 min/day of moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA). Males performed less daily light-intensity physical activity (−5%, p = 0.011) and performed more MVPA (+2%, p = 0.002) compared to females. Maximal aerobic capacity was significantly associated with MVPA (Spearman rho = 0.483, p &lt, 0.001) and MVPA &gt, 10 min bouts (Spearman rho = 0.391, p &lt, 0.001). Self-reported measures overestimated MVPA (total MVPA, +108 min/day, p &lt, 0.001, MVPA &gt, 10 min bouts, +152 min, p &lt, 0.001) and underestimated SB (−174 min/day, p &lt, 0.001) compared to objective measures. There was no significant correlation between methods in MVPA (Spearman rho = 0.147, p = 0.165)), MVPA &gt, 10 min bouts (Spearman rho = −0.059, p = 576), and SB (Spearman rho = 0.139, p = 0.187). Quantitative analysis demonstrated the huge proportional bias for MVPA, MVPA &gt, 10 min bouts, and SB. Our findings demonstrate that self-reported physical activity provides inaccurate estimates of MVPA and SB in patients with CAD entering the ambulatory CR. This strongly supports the more objective assessments of daily PA, preferably using an accelerometer.

Apoptosis, as a well-studied process of a programmed cell death, is essential for the maintenance of cell homeostasis and integrity of organisms. This process occurs normally during development and aging and it is a balance of the sustainability of the tissue cell population. In addition, apoptosis also occurs as a defensive mechanism such as an immune response or after cell damage as a consequence of a pathological condition or the action of harmful agents. Apoptotic activation tends to be less responsive with aging, causing accumulation of non-functional cells and pathological changes such are degenerative diseases or tumor transformation. This overview aims to provide summarized facts about different approaches of apoptosis research, targeting and regulation in tumors especially in leukemic cells as a way of pharmacological manipulation with a potential therapeutic benefit.

The aim of the study was to examine practical implications and actual effects of the 8-week progressive resistance exercise protocol with the custom-made inertial device on sit-to-stand, 6- MWT, functional reach, up-and-go test results and Rate of Perceived exertion (RPE) among older adult women (age 65-74). Thirty-seven healthy volunteers were randomly assigned to the control group (n = 11) and to two exercise – inertial (n = 12) and traditional (n = 14) – groups. The participants performed hip belt squats on the inertial device and kettlebell squats, respectively. Exercise intensity was relatively adjusted using mass moment of inertia (MMI) of the cylindrical weight and %1RM. Time under tension was equalized between groups by the type of the exercise executed. Tests were performed before and after the intervention. Moreover, RPE was monitored after each exercise set. We used two-way repeated measures ANOVA to assess exercise-related differences in test results and to assess intensityrelated differences in RPE. The Senior Fitness Test results significantly differed in pre and post measurements, regardless of the group. A significant time x group interaction was only found in Sit-to-stand test results. RPE results significantly varied from each other across intensities. Statistically different results among groups were only found at the highest intensity (70%). The results indicate that inertial resistance exercise using the novel exercise intensity determination on the inertial device is a useful and less strenuous alternative to traditional resistance exercise among older adult women while performing squats.

The annual plantations in agriculture do not require large investments; therefore financial yields with this type of investments are limited. On the other hand, investment in perennial plantations, such as walnuts, hazelnuts or apples can be significantly higher, but the ROI or the return on such investment is therefore much higher than those on classic crop production. Making complex strategic decisions in agriculture, like whether to invest in an annual or move to perennial plantations, has been out of the sight for economic theorists for a long time. Therefore, the scientific contribution of this article is an effective use of a hybrid model that combines a quantitative method – such as the Net Present Value (NPV), and a qualitative method - such as the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) in a multi criteria decision-making environment which proved that choosing the perennial plantations is a better long term investment strategy then the classic crop production.

Low-load resistance exercise (LL-RE) is recommended as an adjunct therapy to aerobic exercise during cardiac rehabilitation in patients with coronary artery disease. The safety and hemodynamic response to high-load (HL) RE remain unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the hemodynamic response during both HL-RE and LL-RE prior to cardiac rehabilitation. Forty-three patients with coronary artery disease and/or percutaneous coronary intervention performed three sets of leg-press exercise using HL-RE (eight repetitions at the intensity of 80% of one repetition maximum (1-RM)) and LL-RE (16 repetitions at the intensity of 40% 1-RM) in a randomized crossover sequence. Heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and rating of perceived exertion were measured at baseline, after each set of RE and post-exercise. No clinically relevant changes in HR and BP or in patient-reported symptoms were recorded during HL-RE or LL-RE. Compared with baseline, HR and SBP increased during LL-RE (from 66 bpm to 86 bpm, time effect: p &lt, 0.001, from 129 mmHg to 146 mmHg, time effect: p &lt, 0.001) and HL-RE (from 68 bpm to 86 bpm, time effect: p &lt, from 130 mmHg to 146 mmHg, time effect: p &lt, 0.001). Compared with HL-RE, the increase in HR was greater after the final set of LL-RE (32% vs. 28%, p = 0.015), without significant differences in SBP and DBP between LL-RE and HL-RE. Rating of perceived exertion was higher after the 1st set of HL-RE compared with LL-RE (median (interquartile range): 6 (5–7) vs. 6 (5–6), p = 0.010). In patients with coronary artery disease, both HL-RE and LL-RE were safe and well-tolerated. Hemodynamic changes were similar and within the physiological response to RE.

Imiquimod (IMQ) induced human-like psoriasis in mice has been shown to be effective in testing and development of novel treatments. The IMQ psoriasis model has become widely used animal model, however, it is not completely characterized in different rat strains. We aimed to evaluate IMQ and betamethasone treatment for induction and reversal of psoriatic lesions on macroscopic, histological, genetic as well as cytokines and chemokines activation levels. Wistar rats were treated topically with IMQ. Adopted Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI) was calculated at the baseline, after the IMQ-symptoms induction and after betamethasone-symptoms reversal. Systematic effects were studied on cytokines and chemokines levels in plasma. Skin biopsy was taken to assess histological symptoms and selected inflammatory cytokines and receptors genes expression levels. It is well known that the electricity market derives significant risks for all participants, especially for the transmission system operator (TSO) which is responsible for balancing electricity generation and consumption regardless of their probability, which means they have stochastic nature. Therefore, the main idea is to provide the safety of the system's drive by analysing certain risks related to the problem of balancing the process of electricity generation with the goal: ''maximum safety and minimum risk''. The power trading and ancillary services provision comprise technical and financial risks and therefore require a structured risk management. Focus of this paper is on financial risk management that is important for the system operator faces when providing and using ancillary services for balancing of power system.

Background Low energy availability in male athletes has gained a lot of attention in recent years, but direct evidence of its effects on health and performance is lacking. The aim of this research was to objectively measure energy availability (EA) in healthy male endurance athletes without pre-existing relative energy deficiency signs during pre-race season. Methods Twelve trained endurance athletes (performance level 3, 4, and 5) participated in the cross-sectional controlled laboratory study. Fat-free mass, exercise energy expenditure, and energy intake were measured to calculate EA. Resting energy expenditure was measured and estimated to assess energy conservation. Three specific performance tests were used to assess endurance, agility, and explosive strength performance. For psychological evaluation, the Three Factor Eating Questionnaire and a short Well-being questionnaire were completed. Results Mean EA was 29.5 kcal/kg FFM/day. The majority (66.6%) had EA under the threshold for low EA in females. Critical cognitive restraint (≥13) was reported by 75% of participants. There were no differences in performance, blood values, or psychological evaluation when subjects were divided into two groups divided by EA = 30 kcal/kg FFM/day. Cognitive restraint was negatively associated with measured resting energy expenditure and energy conservation (r = −.578, p = .025 and r = −.549, p = .032, respectively). Conclusions The mean EA measured in this study supports the theory that the threshold for low EA in endurance male athletes might be under the threshold for females. In addition, we confirmed cognitive restraint could be useful for early detection of energy conservation. The high cognitive restraint as measured in our sample stressed the need of eating behavior screening in endurance athletes in order to reduce risk of any disordered eating patterns. Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory disease which 30% of psoriasis patients develop, but due to its symptoms and a high prevalence of undiagnosed patients, it is important to diagnose it early, or even better predict it. In this study, using a database of 450 patients, classified in low, medium and high risk patients, and machine learning (ML) algorithms such as Naive Bayes (NB) and Random Forest (RF), we built classifiers for classification of risk for developing PsA in patients with psoriasis. Input parameters, based on which the risk of PsA development is predicted were obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, location and the surface of psoriatic lesions, family history of PsA, nail lesions, and since it was a relatively small dataset the distribution of the samples for training and validation was 70:30%. During the training process of the classifiers, the one based on the Random Forest ML algorithm had the highest accuracy (99.82%), while the k-NN algorithm had the lowest accuracy (89.6%). Based on these results, we can see that we have a great framework and basis for future development, because even though the results are satisfying, by using a much bigger and varied dataset, we can achieve a better accuracy and develop a ML algorithm for predicting the risk of PsA development which physicians would be able to rely on while diagnosing a patient with psoriasis.

Implementation attacks like side-channel and fault attacks pose a considerable threat to cryptographic devices that are physically accessible by an attacker. As a consequence, devices like smart cards implement corresponding countermeasures like redundant computation and masking. Recently, statistically ineffective fault attacks (SIFA) were shown to be able to circumvent these classical countermeasure techniques. We present a new approach for verifying the SIFA protection of arbitrary masked implementations in both hardware and software. The proposed method uses Boolean dependency analysis, factorization, and known properties of masked computations to show whether the fault detection mechanism of redundant masked circuits can leak information about the processed secret values. We implemented this new method in a tool called Danira, which can show the SIFA resistance of cryptographic implementations like AES S-Boxes within minutes.

Introduction: C-reactive Protein (CRP) as an inflammatory biomarker can be easily determined in saliva, but the values of salivary CRP in periodontitis are not well-studied. The aim of this study was to analyze and determine the values of salivary CRP in non-smokers with periodontitis stage 3 or 4 before and after supragingival and subgingival full-mouth periodontal therapy.Methods: Standard periodontal parameters and saliva samples were collected in 12 non-smoking patients. Patients in the test group (n = 6) underwent supragingival and subgingival full-mouth periodontal therapy, and the control group (n = 6) received only supragingival full-mouth therapy. Both groups received the same oral hygiene instructions in addition to therapy. After 3 months, re-registration of periodontal parameters and re-sampling of saliva for analysis of salivary CRP were done for both groups.Results: Statistical analysis revealed large differences in the values of clinical periodontal parameters and CRP levels in the test group after therapy. Values of salivary CRP in the test and control groups were lower 3 months the therapy; however, the results were not statistically significant. The correlation of clinical periodontal parameters and salivary CRP varied in both groups.Conclusion: Our pilot study reveals decreased concentrations of salivary C-reactive protein in non-smoking patients following non-surgical periodontal therapy. Further studies are needed to prove the reliability of salivary CRP as a biomarker for periodontitis.

Massive pulmonary hemorrhage (MPH) in neonates is a severe condition followed by many complications and associated with a high mortality rate. The aim of this study was to present the incidence, possible risk factors, and short-term outcome of neonatal MPH in Tuzla Canton. We retrospectively analyzed data on neonates with MPH from January 2015 to December 2017. On statistical analysis, standard methods of descriptive statistics were used. During the three-year study period, 16 neonates developed MPH, 5 (31.25%) male and 11 (68.75%) female. Their mean gestational age was 29.48±2.21 weeks and mean birth weight 1276.69±387.65 grams. Seven (43.75%) neonates survived and 9 (56.25%) died. Significant differences between the two outcome groups (survivors/ died) were found in gestational age, birth weight, birth length, 5-minute Apgar score, and length of treatment at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In Tuzla Canton, MPH occurred mainly in preterm neonates requiring mechanical ventilation, with the incidence of 1.91% of total premature births. The short-term outcome was uncertain, with a high mortality rate of 56.25%. Lower gestational age, lower birth weight, lower birth length and lower 5-minute Apgar score were confirmed as risk factors for poor short-term outcome., Masivna plućna hemoragija (MPH) u novorođenčadi je teško stanje koje prati mnoštvo komplikacija i visoka stopa smrtnosti. Cilj ovoga istraživanja bio je utvrditi incidenciju, moguće čimbenike rizika i kratkoročni ishod neonatalne MPH u Tuzlanskom kantonu. Retrospektivno smo analizirali podatke o novorođenčadi s MPH od siječnja 2015. do prosinca 2017. godine. U statističkoj obradi primijenjene su standardne metode deskriptivne statistike.Tijekom promatranog trogodišnjeg razdoblja MPH se razvila u 16 novorođenčadi, 5 dječaka (31,25%) dječaka i 11 (68,75%) djevojčica. Srednja gestacijska dob bila je 29,48±2,21 tjedana, a srednja porođajna težina 1276,69±387,65 grama. Svih 16 bili su neonoščad niske porođajne težine od kojih je 7 (43,75%) preživjelo, a 9 (56,25%) umrlo. Značajne razlike među dvjema skupinama ishoda nađene su za gestacijsku dob, porođajnu težinu, porođajnu duljinu, Apgar indeks u petoj minuti i dužinu intenzivnog liječenja. U zaključku, u Tuzlanskom kantonu neonatalna MPH javljala se kod nedonoščadi koja su zahtijevala mehaničku ventilaciju, s incidencijom od 1,91% od ukupnog broja prijevremeno rođenih. Kratkoročni ishod bio je neizvjestan, s visokom stopom smrtnosti od 56,25%. Kraća gestacijska dob, niža porođajna težina, niža porođajna duljina i niži Apgar indeks u petoj minuti potvrđeni su kao čimbenici rizika za loš kratkoročni ishod.

This paper presents an analysis of economic aspects of three selected automation innovations in electronic Transportation Management Systems: Maritime Transport Chain solution and Vessel Estimated Time of Arrival solution (related to the maritime transport) and Delivery Planning solution (related to the transport in general). The theoretical background of transportation, Transportation Management Systems, maritime transportation and seaports is provided, focusing on the economic aspects. A literature review has been conducted, in order to identify the research gap and to focus on the economic aspects of the selected automation innovations. A SWOT Analysis of the Maritime Transport Chain solution, Vessel Estimated Time of Arrival solution and Delivery Planning solution (from an internal and external perspective) is presented, adding to the existing research of the economic aspects of automation innovations in the transport sector.

National culture can influence entrepreneurship by creating a specific cultural framework which defines the possibilities for the recognition of opportunities for entrepreneurial activities, as well as their social desirability. Very large corporations, especially those that dominate a region, also have their own organizational cultures, which in turn influence local social culture, and which can constitute a specific subculture within society. The “Kolubara” mine is the largest in Serbia, employing more than 11,000 workers. As most of its employees are living close to its headquarters, the small town of Lazarevac (Central Serbia), the culture nurtured within this organization and among its employees is heavily intertwined with the social culture of the inhabitants of the town. The GLOBE (Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness) approach was used to investigate the relation between this organizational culture and national culture, by measuring the nine GLOBE cultural dimensions of the “Kolubara” employees and of the inhabitants of Lazarevac. The results of this are discussed and analysed in the context of the ongoing economic transformation in many post-socialist economies. This study highlights the readiness of the people of small industrial towns, such as Lazarevac, to adapt to this ongoing transition and to undertake entrepreneurial activities in tourism during periods of industrial restructuring and the growth of service industries in former industrial areas.

IntroductionThe prevalence of overweight subjects in military cohorts increases despite the obligatory army physical fitness test (APFT) requirements and the negative consequences of possible test failure due to the increased body mass index (BMI). Studies that have examined the association of BMI with baseline fitness in the military are showing conflicting evidence. The primary aim of the study is to examine BMI effects on baseline fitness that was measured by APFT and additional functional performance tests (FT) (vertical countermovement jump with and without load, loaded prone plank, single-leg hamstring bridge test and pull-ups). Our secondary goal is to explore if regular strength training modifies the BMI effect on baseline fitness.MethodsA cross-sectional study on a sample of 118 male infantry soldiers that have performed APFT and FT was carried out. Body mass and body height measurements were used to calculate BMI, and to categorise participants into BMI ranks. Two independent categorical variables (BMI rank and strength training) were used to evaluate their influence on dependent variables of physical performance acquired from APFT and FT.ResultsA significantly large size effect of BMI rank (F=1.69, p=0.037; effect size (ES)=0.15) and regular strength training (F=2.66, p=0.006; ES=0.21) on physical performance was found. It was shown that strength training had a medium ES on push-up and pull-up performance, as well as on the overall APFT score and loaded plank.ConclusionsThe importance of regular strength training and normal BMI for better overall baseline fitness in infantry members was highlighted. Most importantly, it was shown that performance is not affected in overweight soldiers who are performing regular strength training in addition to their daily physical training.Trial registration numberNCT03415464

Introduction: Current international guidelines recommend H1 and H2- antihistamines as a second or third- line drugs for the management of anaphylaxis. Aim: To present positive cardiovascular and dermatological effects of Chloropyramine and Ranitidine as the combination of H1 and H2- antihistamines in additive therapy of anaphylaxis. Patients and methods: In a retrospective study two groups of 146 patients who met the NIAID/FAAN criteria for the diagnosis of anaphylaxis were compared. Experimental group consisted of 62 patients who received combination of Chloropyramine H1- antihistamines and Ranitidine H2- antihistamines. Control group consisted of 84 patients who received only Chloropyramine H1- antihistamines. Results: A statistically significant differences of diastolic pressure and central pulse (p< 0.001), a higher values of diastolic pressure, and a lower values of central pulse in the experimental group of patients were recorded at the end of the prehospital treatment of anaphylaxis. The increase in the mean arterial blood pressure at the end of the treatment is higher in the experimental group compared to the initial values, with an average difference of 15 mmHg (%95 CI= 7,95-21,95). Total prehospital time and time recovery of the skin urticaria and itch was shorter in the experimental group for 18 minutes (95% CI= 11,95-25,95). Conclusion: Positive cardiovascular effects and a faster resolving of the skin symptoms justify the use of combination Chloropyramine and Ranitidine as an additive therapy of anaphylaxis that is not life- threatening, and of a rapid progression.

Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H) is exposed to many natural hazards. Changes in hydromechanical regime, long-lasting droughts, extreme rainfalls of high intensity and short duration, as well as endogenous processes caused more and more destructive floods, torrents, earthquakes and landslides. However, in analyzing the causes that lead to the negative consequences of natural occurrences, anthropogenic activity plays a major role. In this connection, this chapter will analyze primarily the causes that lead to the negative effects of natural phenomena. When speaking about anthropogenic activity and role of the man in the increasing of the consequences of natural disasters, will be analyzed activities that are not conducted in a sector of strategic documents and spatial plans, as well as specific gaps in individual sectors of the economy. The development of a disaster risk reduction strategy, consisting of assessing the vulnerability and mapping risks from certain natural disasters, is considered important in the prevention of disasters, and will be processed in particular. Their integration into spatial plans, with the use of modern technologies (such as GIS), could greatly contribute to reducing the consequences of natural disasters.

Production lines can be designed by an analytical, semi-analytical, or numerical approach. This paper gives a brief introduction to the analytical approach of a single buffer line, the aggregation method, and the analytical approach of a multi-buffer line. An automotive paint shop production system will be used as a figurative example to compare the aggregation method and the recently developed analytical approach for a multi-buffer line. A discussion at the end will show the advantages and disadvantages of the analytical approach.

The aim of this study was to prospectively examine the association between isometric hip adductor strength and between-limb strength asymmetry to groin injuries in male professional soccer players. Isometric hip adductor strength and between-limb strength asymmetry of 45 professional outfield soccer players from three First Division teams were tested during the 2017/2018 preseason. Players were then monitored throughout the 2017/2018 season for groin injuries. Ten groin injuries were recorded. When compared with uninjured players, players who sustained groin injury had significantly lower strength of respective muscle groups and significantly higher between-limb strength asymmetries (all p &lt, 0.05, ES = 1.16 and 0.88, mean % difference = 26% and 51%). Isometric hip adductor strength had a significant inverse relationship with the incidence of occurring groin injuries (p = 0.016). No significant relationship between hip adductor strength asymmetry and the incidence of future groin injury was observed (p = 0.09). Finally, players&rsquo, age and previous groin injury were not significantly associated with the incidence of future groin injuries (all p &gt, 0.05). These results generally suggest that isometric adductor strength is a significant predictor of future groin injuries in men&rsquo, s professional football, however, due to the relatively low sample size, further studies are required.

Musharakah is one of the most used Islamic financing models because of the flexibility it provides for both banks and clients and transparency in terms of profit and loss sharing. Most Islamic banks calculate profit margin for diminishing musharakah financings using different external and internal criteria, such as risk premium, costs of sources, client’s rating, and competition margins. Profit margin is often linked to different referent indices, like LIBOR, as financings based on diminishing musharakah are usually long-term financings. Profit margin could also be calculated using a market rent as a base, since the revenue bank receives from a client is actually rent for its share in real estate bought through diminishing musharakah financing. In this paper, we shall analyze possibilities to use market rent as a base for profit margin in Bosna Bank International Sarajevo (BBI), the only bank in Bosnia and Herzegovina that operates according to Shariah principles.

International audience; To optimize the energy consumption and performance of their CPUs, AMD introduced a way predictor for the L1-data (L1D) cache to predict in which cache way a certain address is located. Consequently, only this way is accessed, significantly reducing the power consumption of the processor. In this paper, we are the first to exploit the cache way predictor. We reverse-engineered AMD's L1D cache way predictor in microarchitectures from 2011 to 2019, resulting in two new attack techniques. With Collide+Probe, an attacker can monitor a victim's memory accesses without knowledge of physical addresses or shared memory when time-sharing a logical core. With Load+Reload, we exploit the way predictor to obtain highly-accurate memory-access traces of victims on the same physical core. While Load+Reload relies on shared memory, it does not invalidate the cache line, allowing stealthier attacks that do not induce any last-level-cache evictions. We evaluate our new side channel in different attack scenarios. We demonstrate a covert channel with up to 588.9 kB/s, which we also use in a Spectre attack to exfiltrate secret data from the kernel. Furthermore, we present a key-recovery attack from a vulnerable cryptographic implementation. We also show an entropy-reducing attack on ASLR of the kernel of a fully patched Linux system, the hypervisor, and our own address space from JavaScript. Finally, we propose countermeasures in software and hardware mitigating the presented attacks.

J Strength Cond Res XX(X): 000-000, 2019-The primary purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between traditional army physical fitness test (APFT) and a novel functional testing battery that included counterMovement jump (CMJ) testing, stork balANce test, pUll-ups, single leg hAmstring bridge test, and loaded prone pLank test-MANUAL battery. The secondary purpose was to explore additional baseline fitness aspects traditionally not covered by APFT. This cross-sectional study involved 181 Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) infantry members (age 31.4 ± 6.1 years) that were tested using both the regular annual APFT and the MANUAL battery (testing was conducted 2 weeks apart). At the significance level of p ≤ 0.05, significant but weak associations between the MANUAL testing battery and APFT battery (0.2 ≦ r < 0.5; p ≤ 0.05) were observed. The MANUAL battery has highlighted possible hamstring (less than 20 repetitions on a single leg bridge test in 26% of SAF infantry members) and posterior shoulder pull-up muscle weakness (mean score 5 ± 4 pull-ups). Functional predictors from the MANUAL explained only 33.6% of the APFT score (R = 0.336). Significant predictors of APFT score were single leg hamstring left (p = 0.048), loaded plank (p = 0.049), number of pull-ups (p < 0.001), CMJ (p = 0.01), and loaded CMJ (p = 0.026). The findings suggest that higher APFT marks are associated with better performance on the MANUAL tests and indicate the problem of hamstring and pull-up muscle weakness. The general recommendation is that the physical condition military programs should include more exercises to strengthen those muscle groups.

Conventional screening and diagnostic procedures in prostate complaints rely on PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) concentration which is not specific for prostate cancer and frequently leads to unnecessary invasive procedures in order to exclude malignant disease. It is estimated that approximately 50% of persons who underwent tissue biopsy did so based on false positive PSA value. Therefore a proper and timely differential diagnosis of malignant disease using non-invasive techniques remains one of the biggest challenges in medicine. Urine is the invaluable source of biological information contained in small molecules i.e. RNA that is easily accessible and detectable using molecular genetics techniques. We describe economical and fast method for relative expression analysis applicable to any target gene using urine as a sample. Efficient non-invasive method for identification of malignant or high risk cases prove useful in reduction of patient distress during the diagnostic procedure and significantly reduce healthcare costs.

Shipbuilding industry is generally considered as one of the key global industries. It consumes a significant amount of energy and leaves a strong footprint on the environment. It is therefore required to try to increase renewable energy sources in the shipbuilding industry in accordance with the adopted international legislation. This will improve energy efficiency of shipyards and reduce their impact on the environment. The present preliminary study contributes to those goals as application of sustainable renewable energy systems in ship production industry is considered. The analysis is performed for solar panels, tidal and wind turbines with respect to their technology readiness and investment costs, as well as for the total energy consumption. While in the present work the research hypothesis is studied on example of a typical Croatian shipyard, the general findings are expected to be widely applicable to all shipyards. The solar panels are considered as the most suitable renewable technology, while the investment return period for introducing solar panels to satisfy the entire electrical energy demand in this particular case is approximately seven years. The impact of introducing this green shipbuilding approach is considered beneficial in comparison with current conventional electrical energy production based on conventional energy sources.

Numerous research and basic economic data from recent decades indicate that agricultural production, as well as the export of agricultural products, can be the main pillars of economic growth in the developing countries. The Republic of Serbia is predominantly an importing country, but with great export potential, especially when we talk about agricultural products. From the perspective of production, Serbia has a huge potential for growth. The subject of this research is the analysis of export potential in agricultural products of the Republic of Serbia. Using the method of secondary and panel analysis, we searched for the data that would indicate that the profitability of exporters increases if they export agricultural products obtained by higher levels of processing. The transfer of agricultural products into a higher processing phase not only brings higher returns on capital and assets to the exporter, but also affects the opening of additional jobs in production, improves the trade balance of the state, etc. In accordance with this, the aim of this paper was to develop a model for creating a favorable atmosphere in the Republic of Serbia for agricultural producers to transfer their products to a higher processing stage (as much as this is possible) and then export them to foreign markets.

Summary Purpose The muscle strength of the hamstrings is often reported as asymmetric in footballers and is associated with the occurrence of muscle injuries. Therefore, discriminating, reproducible and valid screening tests are sought. Methodology The objectives of this study were: to assess the muscle strength profile of the hamstrings with the Single Leg Bridge Test (SLBT) in U17 and U19 football players, to calculate the asymmetry of muscle strength and to classify the results according to 3 performance levels. This cross-sectional study included 37 young footballers, 20 U17 and 17 U19. The SLBT was performed for the left and right leg. History of hamstring muscle injury has been identified up to 2 years prior to SLBT. Results A significant difference was found between the left and right side (P = 0.01), particularly among U17s (P = 0.03). The asymmetry of strength was 23% for the U17s and 17% for the U19s. The performance considered “poor” (21–30 repetitions) was different between U17 and U19 (P Conclusion The SLBT is an adequate field test for the assessment of hamstring strength in order to detect hamstring muscle asymmetry in young footballers. This test requires little equipment, money, and can be performed on multiple players simultaneously. Classification according to performance (number of repetitions) adds practical value in order to develop individual muscle building programs based on the calculated asymmetry in the young footballers.

The manufacturing industry has a great impact on the economic growth of countries. It is, therefore, crucial to master the skills of the production system by mathematical tools that enable the evaluation of the production systems’ performance measures. Four mathematical approaches toward the modeling of steady-state behavior of serial Bernoulli production lines were considered in this study, namely, the analytical approach, the finite state method, the aggregation procedure, and numerical modeling. The accuracy of the performance measures determined using the semi-analytical methods and the numerical approach was validated using numerous theoretical examples and the results obtained using the analytical model. All of the considered methods demonstrated relevant reliability, regardless of the different theoretical backgrounds.

Production system engineering is strongly relied on mathematical models of systems under consideration and analytical solution of the problem has an important role in development and validation of more complex numerical tools. Analytical solution of steady-state behavior of serial Bernoulli production line with three machines and two buffers is considered in this paper based on Markov chain approach. Transition matrices in general case, including three machines with different probabilities of failure and arbitrary occupancy of two buffers, are formulated along with equations for performance measures. The developed theory is illustrated using four different serial Bernoulli lines and the obtained results are compared to those determined using semi- analytical approach via aggregation procedure. Finally, the existing discrepancies are analyzed and pointed out for five different levels of buffers occupancy. From general perspective, good agreement has been found for most of the results within the examined space of system states.
