Malnutrition is one of the main trouble relationship children development, it is linking of infectious disease, affect brain development, learning delay and others. The school feeding is an important action to mitigate this, but the acceptability of new and healthy products still a challenge. The goal of this article was to develop a fermented drink, replacing milk to whey, added of mangaba pulp and iron, to improve the nutritional quality of products. Two formulations were developed with a difference in ratio milk and whey. The pH, acidity, nutritional label, microbiology and sensorial assay with target public (children and adolescents) of formulations were evaluated. Highlights the contribution of protein, calcium and iron to daily value of intake recommended of formulations, 8.4%, 15.2% and 44.3%, respectively. The microbiological parameters founded shows that the formulations were developed according to good manufacture practice. The formulation and age showed significant effect in acceptability of judges, but gender did not effect. The increase of whey concentration in formulation improved the acceptability, ranking to 91.5% to children and 73.6% to adolescents. The developed formulations are a great option to novel food products, given the high acceptance of the fermented milk drink by potential consumers and nutritional aport.

Introdução: O cirurgião-dentista ocupa uma posição estratégica no reconhecimento das alterações que envolvem a cavidade bucal e o diagnóstico precoce constitui uma das formas mais eficazes de combater uma doença. Objetivo: Esta pesquisa relatou a prevalência das patologias bucais que acometeram os pacientes que procuraram o Serviço de Prevenção e Diagnóstico Precoce de Câncer de Boca na rede Municipal de Saúde de Passo Fundo (RS) entre janeiro de 2006 e dezembro de 2010. Materiais e Métodos: O estudo foi realizado por meio de análise dos prontuários de atendimento de todos 444 pacientes atendidos neste ambulatório. Foi feito um levantamento das lesões encontradas, associando os fatores de risco, gênero e idade visando determinar a prevalência dessas patologias. Resultados: O grupo das hiperplasias reacionais foi o mais prevalente com 31,3% dos casos. As lesões bucais acometem principalmente pacientes com mais de 40 anos. Conclusão: Pacientes do gênero masculino, com mais de 40 anos, que apresentam fatores de riscos associados, são o grupo mais propenso a desenvolver neoplasias malignas na cavidade bucal., Introduction: The dentist occupies a strategic position in the changes recognition involving the oral cavity and the early diagnosis is one of the most effective ways to combat a disease. Objective: This study reported the prevalence of oral diseases for Oral cancer Health Center users in Passo Fundo, RS, between January 2006 and December 2010. Materials and Methods: The study was done by medical records analysis of all patients. A lesion survey was done associating risk factors, gender and age to determine the prevalence of these pathologies. Results: The reactive hyperplasia group was the most prevalent with 31.3% of cases. The oral lesions mainly affect patients over 40 years. Conclusion: Male patients with more than 40 years, who have risk factors associated, are the most tendency group to develop oral cancer.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate perceived sensory differences of organic and conventional leafy green vegetables through three sensory tests – blind, informed and inverted and the willingness to buy (WTB) them, and associated factors of organic food consumption by these students. Design/methodology/approach The research had a cross-sectional design with university students. First, a questionnaire with 16 statements was presented to 233 consumers with a five-point Likert scale response. The assertions were categorized into five domains: trust in organic production; trust in conventional production; positive attitude to organic; affordable price; and perceived quality. Afterwards, a hedonic scaling was conducted with 150 consumers, 50 in each type of test with conventional and organic leafy green vegetables: lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.); kale (Brassica oleracea L.); common chicory (Cichorium intybus); and endive (Cichorium endivia). Visual aspect, taste, texture, bitterness and overall liking for all samples were evaluated on a nine-point hedonic scale. Findings In general, the participants did not perceive sensory differences during the blind test, but when the information about the vegetables was provided, higher scores were obtained by those products labelled as organic in the informed test and in the inverted test (conventional labelled as organic). This effect was higher for students with stronger attitudes towards organic food. These results indicated that the perceived differences between organic and conventional leafy green by university students tended to be attitudinal and, therefore, can be greatly influenced by the information provided with the product. Originality/value This research showed that university students were influenced by the organic label, revealing their sensory perception about vegetables. This study had multiple methodological approaches, including hedonic scaling and consumers’ WTB. This combination allowed identifying the students’ attitudinal tendency in relation to their sensory perceptions of organic green leafy green vegetables.

A dengue é considerada um problema de saúde pública em todo o mundo. A proliferação deste vetor ocorre facilmente em ambientes propícios como água parada. A sintomatologia da dengue pode ser variada assintomática e na maioria das vezes sintomática. A susceptibilidade ao vírus da dengue é universal. No entanto, alguns fatores de riscos são determinantes para a gravidade da doença, tais como idade, etnia, presença de comorbidades e infecção secundária. O objetivo deste artigo é descrever o perfil epidemiológico dos casos de dengue em Cacoal-RO no período de 2015 a 2017. A metodologia utilizada foi de um estudo documental retrospectivo, transversal, descritiva com abordagem quantitativa. A pesquisa foi realizada no município de Cacoal – RO, na Amazônia brasileira. Conclui-se que o perfil epidemiológico da dengue tem apresentado queda no número de casos notificados, acometendo principalmente o sexo feminino, com a faixa etária de 20 a 39 anos. Obteve-se uma média anual de 107,6 casos no município pesquisado.

Dentre os programas de atenção à saúde está o Programa de Atenção Integral à Saúde da Mulher (PAISM), que oferece assistência integral à população feminina em conformidade com os princípios e diretrizes do SUS, dentro da política da atenção básica. Este trabalho teve por objetivo analisar o espelho de acompanhamento mensal do ano de 2009 e 2010 através dos indicadores epidemiológicos da sala de situaçãoreferentes à saúde da mulher de uma Unidade de Saúde da Família (USF) de Recife-PE. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico descritivo, comparativo e ao mesmo tempo exploratório, realizado em uma USF do Distrito Sanitário V, localizada em Recife-PE e denominada Planeta dos Macacos II, integrante do PET-Saúde. Um total de oito indicadores foram consultados, o que representa 100% dos dados das planilhas dispostas na própria Sala de Situação, nos anos referidos acima. Resultado: A Unidade de Saúde da Família acompanhada, de maneira geral, atingiu as metas preconizadas pelo Ministério da Saúde em relação ao PAISM nos indicadores analisados para realização de pré-natal e coleta de citopatológico para câncer uterino. Conclusão: A USF deve estar sempre orientada e capacitada para a atenção integral à saúde da mulher, numa perspectiva que contemple a promoçãoda saúde, o controle de patologias mais prevalentes nesse grupo e a garantia do direito à saúde. No entanto, vale enfatizar que os índices apresentados não podem ser interpretados isoladamente e nem ser a única fonte de informação e avaliação da assistência.

Background: Children and teenagers accumulate dental plaque easily due to immature motor coordination present at this specific age. Thus, chemical solutions such as mouthwashes are used for biofilm control. The widespread use of mouthwash could potentially change the oral environment though there is no evidence of its effects on the biofilm. Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the in vitro antimicrobial potential of infant mouthwashes on mature Streptococcus mutans biofilm. Methods: The susceptibility of S. mutans biofilm UA 159 (ATCC700610) to infant mouthwashes was tested with childrens mouthwashes containing the following active agents: G1-cetylpyridinium chloride, G2-xylitol and triclosan and G3-Malva sylvestris and xylitol. Phosphage-buffered saline (PBS) was used at the negative control (G4). In this study, cariogenic biofilm was exposed once a day for one minute to the mouthwashes over a period of five days. Following this, an aliquot of each mouthwash used was seeded in brain heart infusion (BHI) agar and then incubated at 37°C, 5% CO2 for 48 h. The results were expressed as colony-forming units (CFU) and converted into log10. The results were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey's test at 5%. Results: It was observed 7.75, 7.66, and 7.49 CFUlog10 values to G1, G2, and G3, respectively, with 9.53 CFUlog10 value to G4. Accordingly, all studied mouthwashes showed no significant statistical difference between them but with statistically significant bacterial reduction in comparison to control group. Conclusion: Infant mouthwashes presented a highly significant antimicrobial effect on cariogenic biofilm in an in vitro model, which raises concern when used by a young population.

The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of brackets after pre-treatment with different fluoride solutions. This study used 48 freshly extracted sound bovine incisors that were randomly assigned to 4 experimental groups (n=12). CG: (control) without treatment; NF: 4 min application of neutral fluoride; APF: application of 1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) for 4 min; and SFV: application of 5% sodium fluoride varnish for 6 h. For each group, after surface treatment, prophylaxis of enamel and bracket bonding with Transbond XT composite resin (3M) were performed following the manufacturer's specifications. The shear bond strength was performed with a universal testing machine 24 h after fixing the brackets. The tooth surfaces were analyzed to verify the adhesive remnant index (ARI). Data were analyzed statistically by ANOVA and Tukey's test (α=0.05). There was statistically significant difference among the groups (p0.05). The analysis of ARI scores revealed that most failures occurred at the enamel-resin interface. It may be concluded that the pre-treatment of enamel with 1.23% APF and 5% SFV prior to fixing orthodontic brackets reduces shear bond strength values. O objetivo deste estudo foi o de avaliar in vitro a resistência adesiva de bráquetes após o pré-tratamento do esmalte com diferentes soluções fluoretadas. Foram utilizados 48 incisivos bovinos hígidos recém-extraídos que foram aleatoriamente divididos em 4 grupos experimentais (n=12). CG (controle): sem tratamento; FN: aplicação de flúor neutro por 4 min; FFA: aplicação de flúor fosfato acidulado (FFA) a 1,23% por 4 min; e VFS: aplicação de verniz de fluoreto de sódio a 5% por 6 h. Após o tratamento dos grupos, foi realizada a profilaxia do esmalte e os bráquetes foram fixados utilizando o compósito Transbond XT (3M), seguindo as especificações do fabricante. A resistência adesiva foi verificada através do teste de cisalhamento, realizado na Máquina de Ensaio Universal DL-2000 24 h após a fixação dos bráquetes. As superfícies dos dentes foram analisadas para verificação do índice de adesivo remanescente (IAR). Por meio dos testes estatísticos ANOVA e Tukey (α=5%), observou-se diferença estatisticamente significante entre os grupos estudados (p0,05). A análise dos escores do IAR revelou que grande parte das falhas ocorreram na interface esmalte-resina. Conclui-se que o tratamento do esmalte com FFA 1,23% e VFS a 5%, previamente à fixação de bráquetes ortodônticos, reduziu os valores de resistência adesiva ao cisalhamento

The aim of this paper is to review the biochemistry and metabolism of aflatoxins, fumonisins and trichothecenes. Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by toxigenic species of fungi, which can cause toxic effects in humans and animals. Food contamination by mycotoxins has been reported worldwide, mostly in foods that are susceptible to fungal growth, such as grains and cereals. Mycotoxins can lead to damage to health, and economic losses in agriculture. The most common mycotoxins found in routine food consumption and with consumption limits set by many countries, including Brazil, are: aflatoxins B1, B2, G1 e G2, ochatoxin A, zearalenone, deoxynivalenol, T-2 toxin and fumonisin. The better understanding of the biochemistry and metabolism of mycotoxins is necessary to avoid problems caused by them and minimize their negative effects on agriculture and health.
