The appropriate hosts of emitting layers (EMLs) play an important role in determining the overall performance of solution-processed phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (PhOLEDs). We have investigated the effect of three species of host molecules, 1,3-bis(carbazol-9-yl)benzene (mCP), 10-(4-(5,5dimethylbenzofuro[3,2-c]acridin-13(5H)-yl)phenyl)-10-phenylanthracen-9(10H)-one (DpAn-5BzAc) and poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK), on the performance of solution-processed blue and yellow PhOLEDs. We have found that compared to the widely used single-host EMLs, the devices using the binary blend of mCP: DpAn5BzAc as hosts, can achieve more efficient optoelectrical characteristics. The maximum current efficiencies of 11.84 and 16.61 have been realized for blue and yellow OLEDs, respectively. The superior electroluminescence performance for binary blend host-based PhOLEDs was attributed to the enhanced charge carrier balance and multi-component miscibility, which has a dramatic influence on the morphology of the emissive layer. These results demonstrate the great potential of the multi-hosts in solution-processed organic optoelectronic devices. The development of complementary colour OLEDs with blue and yellow can provide a simple approach to fabricate solution-processed white PhOLEDs.

Gastrointestinal mucositis is one of the most debilitating side effects of the chemotherapeutic agent irinotecan (CPT-11). Andrographolide, a natural bicyclic diterpenoid lactone, has been reported to possess anti-colitis activity. In this study, andrographolide treatment was found to significantly relieve CPT-11-induced colitis in tumor-bearing mice without decreasing the tumor suppression effect of CPT-11. CPT-11 causes DNA damage and the release of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) from the intestine, leading to cyclic-GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)‒stimulator of interferon genes (STING)-mediated colitis, which was significantly decreased by andrographolide both in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistic studies revealed that andrographolide could promote homologous recombination (HR) repair and downregulate dsDNA‒cGAS‒STING signaling and contribute to the improvement of CPT-11-induced gastrointestinal mucositis. Background This study aimed to describe the prevalence of metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) and metabolically unhealthy normal weight (MUNW) rural adults in Xinjiang and to explore their influencing factors. Methods We selected 13,525 Uyghur, Kazakh and Han participants in Kashi, Yili and Shihezi areas in Xinjiang from 2009 to 2010. Weight status was classified according to body mass index. Metabolic phenotype was further defined based on the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III criteria. Results The prevalence of normal weight, overweight, and obesity were 51.6, 30.2, and 14.4%, respectively. The mean age of the population was 45.04 years. The prevalence of MHO was 5.5% overall and was 38.5% among obese participants. The prevalence of MUNW was 15.5% overall and was 30.1% among normal weight participants. A metabolically healthy phenotype among obese individuals was positively associated with females and vegetable consumption ≥4 plates per week. However, this was inversely associated with higher age, red meat consumption ≥2 kg per week, and larger waist circumference (WC). Conversely, a metabolically unhealthy phenotype among normal-weight individuals was positively associated with higher age, red meat consumption ≥2 kg per week, and larger WC; this was however inversely associated with vegetable consumption ≥4 plates per week. Conclusions The prevalence of MHO among obese adults in Xinjiang is higher than that of Han adults, while the prevalence of MUNW among normal weight adults is lower than that among Han adults. In obese and normal weight participants, higher age, more red meat consumption, and larger WC increase the risk of metabolic abnormality, and more vegetable consumption reduces the risk of metabolic abnormality.

Understanding lattice dynamics is crucial for effective thermal management in electronic devices because phonons dominate thermal transport in most semiconductors. α-GaN has become a focus of interest as one of the most important third-generation power semiconductors, however, the knowledge on its phonon dynamics remains limited. Here we show a Matryoshka phonon dispersion of α-GaN with the complementary inelastic X-ray and neutron scattering techniques and the first-principles calculations. Such Matryoshka twinning throughout the basal plane of the reciprocal space is demonstrated to amplify the anharmonicity of the related phonons through creating abundant three-phonon scattering channels and cutting the lifetime of affected modes by more than 50%. Such phonon topology contributes to reducing the in-plane thermal transport, thus the anisotropic thermal conductivity of α-GaN. The results not only have implications for engineering the thermal performance of α-GaN, but also offer valuable insights on the role of anomalous phonon topology in thermal transport of other technically semiconductors. Lattice dynamics can govern the thermal conductivity solids and understanding the underlying mechanisms may enable enhanced performance of devices via judicious engineering. Here, insight into the anisotropic thermal conductivity of semiconducting α-GaN is gained by measuring the Matryoshka phonon dispersions.

Participants underwent detailed ophthalmic examinations, including spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). VMT was defined as abnormal posterior vitreous detachment with anatomical deformation of the fovea, which may include pseudocyst, macular schisis, cystoid macular edema, and subretinal fluid.Main Outcome Measure: Prevalence of VMT.Results: A VMT was detected in 151 (2.3%) eyes (prevalence rate (mean ± SE): 2.3± 0.2%; 95% CI: 1.9%, 2.7%) of 80 (2.4%) subjects (prevalence rate: 2.4± 0.3%; 95% CI: 1.9%, 2.9%). Mean age of all subjects with VMT was 70.1± 8.7 years (median, 70.0 years; range, 50– 90 years), mean refractive error was − 0.22 ± 2.38D (median, 0.25 D; range, − 15.00 to 5.25D). In multivariate analysis, prevalence of VMT was associated with elder age (P=0.001, OR 1.06), female gender (P = 0.036, OR 1.77), subfoveal retinal thickness (P = 0.005, OR 1.01), and subfoveal choroidal thickness (P = 0.026, OR 0.10).Conclusion: In adult Chinese in Greater Beijing, the prevalence of VMT was 2.3% for eyes or 2.4% for subjects. BackgroundTo assess prevalence and associated factors of changes in the ophthalmoscopic optic disc size and shape.MethodsThe case–control study included all highly myopic eyes (myopic refractive error ≤−6.0 diopters) and a randomly selected group of non-highly myopic eyes, examined in the population-based Beijing Eye Study 2001 and 2011.ResultsThe study included 89 highly myopic eyes (age:65.0±9.8 years) and 86 non-highly myopic eyes. Reduction in ophthalmoscopic disc size (prevalence, high myopia: 30 (33.7%) eyes; non-high myopia: 7 (8.1%) eyes) was associated with non-circular gamma zone enlargement (OR: 19.4; 95% CI: 6.7 to 56.6; pConclusionsMyopic axial elongation may lead first to a Bruch’s membrane (BM) opening (BMO) shift into the foveal direction leading to BM overhanging into the nasal intrapapillary compartment, development and enlargement of gamma zone at the temporal disc side, reduction in the ophthalmoscopically visible disc area and ovalisation of the ophthalmoscopic disc shape. In a second step, an axial elongation-associated BMO enlargement may lead to a circular gamma zone increase and, due to the retraction of BM at the nasal disc border, to an enlargement of the ophthalmoscopically visible optic disc.

In this work, we investigated the fabrication of intriguing MoS2 nanoarray on poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/Indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates through one-step vacuum thermal evaporation technology. The profiles of MoS2-based nano-bulges were regarded as domed droplets adhered on the substrates. Evaporation rate and thickness were demonstrated to codetermine the morphology of MoS2-based nanoarray. The diameters of MoS2 bulges were determined by the evaporation thickness, while the evaporation rate dominated contact angles between these bulges and ITO films. Besides the nonuniform electrical distribution, a weak van der Waals force in the horizontal direction between MoS2 molecule and jagged ITO film were proposed to be principal factors that influence the morphologies of MoS2. Finally, the field distributions of organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices with MoS2 nanoarray were simulated through finite-difference-time-domain (FDTD). The obvious absorption enhancement effects in FDTD verified the potential application of MoS2-based nanoarray serving as light-coupling layer in OPV devices.

PURPOSE To investigate macular microvascular characteristics imaged by optical coherence tomography angiography in patients with uveal melanoma following conbercept injections after plaque radiotherapy. METHODS Prospective comparative analysis comprising 15 patients with uveal melanoma with conbercept injections and 30 patients without conbercept injections after plaque radiotherapy by optical coherence tomography angiography. The conbercept group received intravitreal conbercept injections at the time of plaque removal, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months , 9 months and 12 months after plaque removal (total, 6 injections). The control group had no intravitreal conbercept injection. RESULTS After initiation of conbercept injections, superficial retinal vascular density in the whole image and parafoveal region were significantly higher at 6 months, whereas there was no significant difference at 9 months and 12 months. In analysis of variance analysis, superficial retinal vascular density in the whole image remained stable after conbercept injections (P = 0.069), whereas the superficial retinal vascular density decreased significantly after plaque radiotherapy in the control group (P = 0.011). In multivariable linear regression, a higher superficial retinal vascular density in the whole image region at 6 months was significantly associated with intravitreal conbercept injection (P = 0.018), wider tumor base (P = 0.026), and thinner tumor thickness (P = 0.04). CONCLUSION Optical coherence tomography angiography can provide a quantitative evaluation of early retinal microvascular changes after radiotherapy. Intravitreal conbercept treatment could partly relieve the retinal vascular damage in response to radiation therapy at early stage in patients with uveal melanoma; however, it may not be able to provide long-term positive functional outcomes.

Summary Two-dimensional (2D) graphdiyne (GDY) is a promising floating-gate material for flexible optoelectronic flash memory owing to its fascinating electrical and optical properties. However, research in GDY-based flash memory is still in its infancy owing to the huge challenge in the synthesis of large-area and ultrathin GDY films with high quality and uniformity. Here, an electric double-layer-confined strategy is proposed to synthesize a wafer-scale GDY film with thickness of 1 nm. Then, a two-terminal top-floating-gated optoelectronic memory with multibit storage capability is investigated using GDY as a photoresponsive top-floating gate. Benefiting from the excellent charge storage capability and high photoresponse of GDY, this device exhibits over 256 distinct storage levels (8 bits) with signal-to-noise ratios larger than 100. Moreover, the fully 2D material and two-terminal architecture endows the device with robust bending stability for over 1,000 bending circles, paving the way to develop wearable electronics.

The relative efficacy of different sodium glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) in reducing cardiorenal events in type 2 diabetic adults is unclear. We searched PubMed and Embase. Three primary endpoints were major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), hospitalization for heart failure (HHF), and kidney function progression (KFP). Bayesian network meta-analysis was conducted to synthesize hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). We calculated surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) to rank drug treatments. Subcutaneous semaglutide (HR 0.73, 95% CI 0.55-0.96) and albiglutide (HR 0.76, 95% CI 0.63-0.93) significantly reduced MACE versus lixisenatide. Canagliflozin (HRs: 0.69, 0.68, 0.67 and 0.58) and empagliflozin (HRs: 0.70, 0.69, 0.68 and 0.59) significantly reduced HHF versus dulaglutide, exenatide, lixisenatide and subcutaneous semaglutide. Dapagliflozin (HRs: 0.62, 0.60, 0.68 and 0.63) and empagliflozin (HRs: 0.64, 0.61, 0.69 and 0.64) significantly reduced KFP versus dulaglutide, exenatide, liraglutide and lixisenatide. Different drug treatments had the maximum SUCRA values as for preventing different cardiorenal endpoints. Different GLP-1 RAs and SGLT2 inhibitors have different efficacy in preventing cardiorenal endpoints in type 2 diabetes, and the most efficacious drugs are different as for preventing different cardiorenal endpoints.

The mixed cohosts of electron transport host (E-host): 4,40-bis(carbazol-9-yl)biphenyl (CBP) have been comparatively investigated for an efficient green fluorescent organic light emitting diode (OLED) doped with a thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitter (4s,6s)-2,4,5,6-tetra(9H-carbazol-9-yl)isophthalonitrile (4CzIPN). The E-host:CBP systems significantly enhance the electroluminescent (EL) properties. After doping E-host, the lifetime of the emissive layer decreases and the surface becomes smoother, together with the impedance decreases for one magnitude and the hole-injection depresses. The charge balance and improved interface both contribute to the EL performance enhancement. Here we develop a universal mixed host system suitable to most of emitters.

Metal halide perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have aroused extensive attention due to their high color purity, wide color gamut, and low-cost solution processability, showing great potential for application in next-generation high-definition display and solid-state lighting. Recently, the external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) for PeLEDs have impressively exceeded 20%; however, they were all achieved in laboratory-scale devices (

Emerging organic resistive switching memory (ORSM) devices, in which active organic materials possess at least two stable resistance states have attracted considerable attention for their intriguing nonvolatile memory properties. Herein, solution-processed binary ORSM devices incorporating polymer donors (D) of poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) and small molecular acceptors (A) of 1,3-bis[2-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazo-5-yl]benzene (OXD-7) were first investigated. By varying the blending concentration of OXD-7, we demonstrated concentration-dependent resistance switching. To further mediate the memory characteristics, acceptors of both OXD-7 and butylphenyl-5-(4-biphenylyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) were incorporated into PVK donors to form a D–A–A system. The 6 wt% PBD-based ORSM device presented ternary resistive memory characteristics with well-separated current ratios of 1 : 10 : 104 between “OFF”, “ON1” and “ON2” states, while three conductivity states held for 104 s as a function of the time. To unveil the resistive switching mechanism of non-volatile memories, a detailed analysis of electrical properties and intertrap charge transfer in D–A and D–A–A systems was also performed.

Metal halide perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have emerged as some of the most promising candidates for next-generation high-resolution displays due to their wide color gamut, high color purity, and low-cost solution processability. After just a few years of research, the external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) have exceeded 20% for PeLEDs based on the vacuum evaporation of charge transport layers (CTLs) upon perovskite layers. The use of all-solution-processed deposition to produce PeLEDs could further simplify fabrication procedures, lower processing costs, and enhancing compatibility with flexible substrates. However, the EQEs do not exceed 7% for these PeLEDs because perovskites are sensitive to many solvents due to their ionic nature. Moreover, colloidal perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) easily dissolve in polar and non-polar solvents because of their surface organic ligands. In this perspective, we first briefly introduce the crystal structures and intrinsic instability of metal halide perovskites making them unsuitable for solution-processed deposition, and then summarize recent advances relating to all-solution-processed PeLEDs. Finally, the challenges and outlooks for the future development of all-solution-processed PeLEDs are discussed.

In this paper, we demonstrate a solution-processed MoSe2 quantum dots/PEDOT:PSS bilayer hole extraction layer (HEL) for non-fullerene organic solar cells (OSCs). It is found that the introduction of MoSe2 QDs can alter the work function and phase separation of PEDOT:PSS, thus affecting the morphology of the active layer and improving the performance of OSCs. The MoSe2 QDs/PEDOT:PSS bilayer HEL can improve the fill factor (FF), short-circuit current density (Jsc) and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of OSCs based on different active layers. The best PCE of up to 17.08% was achieved based on a recently reported active layer binary system named SZ2:N3, which is among the highest reported values to date for OSCs using 2D materials as an interface modifier. Our study indicates that this simple and solution-processed MoSe2 QDs/PEDOT:PSS bilayer thin film could be a potential alternative HEL to the commonly used PEDOT:PSS conducting polymers.

2D materials with unique opto-electronic properties have shown immense potential for application in organic photovoltaics (OPVs). In this article, we reported a facile and efficient strategy to enhance the device performance of OPVs by doping 2D material of antimonene quantum sheets (AMQSs) into PEDOT:PSS emulsion. The interfacial properties between the hole extraction layer (HEL) and PBDB-T:ITIC-based active layer were properly meliorated, achieving boosted power conversion efficiency ( PCE ). Results indicate that the introduced AMQSs could help suppress the recombination loss and improve charge extraction efficiency. Over 8.09% enhancement of PCE is observed compared to that of the control cell with pure PEDOT:PSS. This work provides a simple and valid strategy of HEL modification to realize high efficiency OPVs.

Uveal melanoma is the most common malignant tumor in adult eyes, mostly in the choroid, but also in the iris and ciliary body. Distant metastasis is found in nearly half of the patients. Cancer stem cells are a kind of cells with the ability of self-renewal and multidirectional differentiation, which are related to tumor invasion and metastasis. Although the concept of cancer stem cells is relatively mature in other tumors, its existence and verification methods in uveal melanoma are still uncertain. A more in-depth understanding of cancer stem cells and their mechanism may reveal new strategies to treat uveal melanoma. This article reviews the concept of cancer stem cells and their research progress in uveal melanoma, including identification, probable markers, cancer stem cell targeted drug therapy and the controversies and prospects in this field.

Combination therapy with cisplatin is the conventional first-line treatment in patients with locally advanced or metastatic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Ubiquitin-specific protease 9X (USP9X) has been shown to be associated with resistance to chemotherapy drugs in several cancers. The purpose of this study was to explore the predictive effects of USP9X on advanced ESCC patients treated with cisplatin-based regimens.The subjects were 69 advanced ESCC patients who received first-line cisplatin-based chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy. The quantitative real-time PCR was performed to measure USP9X mRNA expression. The correlation of USP9X expression with clinical parameters and tumor response was analyzed. The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox analysis were employed to analyze differences in overall survival (OS).USP9X mRNA expression was positively associated with the TMN stage at initial diagnosis. Patients with low USP9X mRNA expression had a significantly higher objective response rate (57.1% vs. 17.6%, P=0.001) and longer median OS (25.0 vs. 14.0 months, P0.001) than those with high expression in all patients or in different treatment subgroups (all P0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that low mRNA expression of USP9X emerged as an independent prognostic factor indicating prolonged OS (hazard ratio 0.50, 95% CI 0.34-0.73; P0.001).These findings suggest that high USP9X mRNA expression predicts poor clinical efficacy and survival to cisplatin-based therapy in patients with advanced ESCC.

Purpose Although there have been many population-based studies of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), only limited information is available in Asia on the epidemiology of geographic atrophy (GA). We aimed to determine the prevalence and patterns of GA through an analysis of multiple studies conducted within the Asian Eye Epidemiology Consortium (AEEC). Design Cross-sectional meta-analyses. Participants A total of 97 213 individuals aged 40 years and older. Methods Data from 22 population-based studies from countries belonging to the AEEC were included. In all studies, AMD was defined on the basis of standardized grading systems. Geographic atrophy was defined as an area of pallor in the fundus with visibility of the underlying choroidal blood vessels and sharply defined borders. Random-effects meta-analysis was performed to estimate overall and age-, gender-, and region-specific pooled prevalence of GA. Main Outcome Measures Prevalence of GA per 1000 persons. Results The mean age was 60.8 ± 10.0 years, and 42 673 (43.9%) were male. Overall, a total of 223 individuals (0.2%) had GA. The pooled overall prevalence of GA was 1.57 per 1000 persons (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.04–2.10), which was 3 times less than that of neovascular AMD of 5.20 per 1000 persons (95% CI, 3.97–6.43). Compared with those aged 50 to 59 years, the prevalence of GA increased from 0.34 per 1000 persons (95% CI, 0.07–0.62) to 2.90 per 1000 persons (95% CI, 1.55–4.25) in those aged ≥70 years. The GA prevalence per 1000 persons was similar between urban (2.22; 95% CI, 1.22–3.23) and rural residents (1.33; 95% CI, 0.70–1.96). Geographic atrophy was more prevalent in South Asia (based on studies from India and Nepal, 3.82 per 1000 persons; 95% CI, 1.72–5.93) compared with East Asia (based on studies from China, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan, and the Singapore Chinese Eye Study, 0.76 per 1000 persons; 95% CI, 0.31–1.22, P = 0.005). Conclusions Geographic atrophy is uncommon in Asian populations compared with those of European ancestry. Even within Asia, geographic differences in GA prevalence were seen. The findings of this meta-analysis suggest that better dissection of risk factors in the Asian population for GA may provide insights into the biological pathways that drive these late-stage manifestations, thus suggesting better targets for prevention.

In this study, the Powder River Basin (PRB) coal fast pyrolysis was conducted at 700 °C in the atmosphere of syngas produced by CH4–CO2 reforming in two different patterns, including the double reactors pattern (the first reactor is for syngas production and the second is for coal pyrolysis) and double layers pattern (catalyst was at upper layer and coal was at lower layer). Besides, pure gases atmosphere including N2, H2, CO, H2–CO were also tested to investigate the mechanism of the coal pyrolysis under different atmospheres. The pyrolysis products including gas, liquid and char were characterized, the result showed that, compared with the inert atmosphere, the tar yield is improved with the reducing atmospheres, as well as the tar quality. The hydrogen partial pressure is the key point for that improvement. In the atmosphere of H2, the tar yield was increased by 31.3% and the contained BTX (benzene, toluene and xylene) and naphthalene were increased by 27.1% and 133.4%. The double reactors pattern also performed outstandingly, with 25.4% increment of tar yield and 25.0% and 79.4% for the BTX and naphthalene. The double layers pattern is not effective enough due to the low temperature (700 °C) in which the Ni-based catalyst was not fully activated.

Summary With rapid progress in perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs), the electroluminescence performance of large-area is of increasing interest. We investigated why large-area performance lags behind that achieved in laboratory-scale devices and found that defects in perovskite films—emerging from thermal convection during solvent evaporation, as well as electronic traps formed during perovskite crystallization—are chief causes. Here, we report a molecular modification strategy that simultaneously eliminates pinholes in perovskite layers by controlling the dynamics of film formation and that passivates defects in perovskites by incorporating Br species, thereby preventing shorts and non-radiative recombination. The molecular modifier 1,3,5-tris (bromomethyl) benzene (TBB) also modulates the electronic structure of injection or transport materials to achieve improved charge injection and balanced charge transport. As a result, we demonstrate 20 mm × 20 mm green perovskite nanocrystal LEDs that achieve an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of over 16%, a record for large-area PeLEDs.

Introduction The impact of reduction of systolic blood pressure or body weight on reduction of cardiovascular events during the treatment with glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) or sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) for type 2 diabetes is unclear. Methods We searched Embase and PubMed. We performed meta-analysis using hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) as effect size stratified by drug class on six endpoints of interest, which were major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), hospitalization for heart failure (HHF), cardiovascular death (CVD), myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, and all-cause death (ACD). We performed meta-regression to assess the difference between GLP-1RAs and SGLT2is, and the impact of reduction of systolic blood pressure or body weight on reduction of cardiovascular events. Results We included 11 randomized trials. Compared with placebo, SGLT2is reduced HHF by 32% (HR 0.68, 95% CI 0.60–0.76) whereas GLP-1RAs reduced HHF by only 9% (HR 0.91, 95% CI 0.83–0.99). The benefit from SGLT2is on HHF was significantly greater than that from GLP-1RAs (Psubgroup = 0.004). GLP-1RAs reduced stroke by 16% (HR 0.84, 95% CI 0.76–0.93) whereas SGLT2is did not reduce stroke (HR 0.96, 95% CI 0.82–1.12). GLP-1RAs and SGLT2is similarly reduced MACE by 12%, CVD by 15%, MI by 9%, and ACD by 13%. The effects of systolic blood pressure reduction and body weight reduction on the logarithms of HRs of GLP-1RAs or SGLT2is vs. placebo as for reducing six endpoints of interest were not statistically significant (β ranged from − 0.145 to 0.269, and P ranged from 0.211 to 0.941). Conclusions GLP-1RAs and SGLT2is lead to similar benefits on MACE, CVD, MI, and ACD in adults with type 2 diabetes. The benefit from SGLT2is on HHF is greater than that from GLP-1RAs, while GLP-1RAs vs. placebo significantly reduce stroke whereas SGLT2is do not. The two drug classes reduce cardiovascular events independent of reductions of systolic blood pressure and body weight. Recently, scene text detection has become an active research field, which is an essential component of scene text reading. Especially, segmentation-based methods are commonly used, since the segmentation results can describe text of arbitrary shape. However, curve texts have a diversity of shapes, scales and orientations, which are difficult to locate, so the detector requires to adjust the local receptive fields size adaptively, which can aggregate multi-scale spatial information to accurately locate the curve text instance. Moreover, the low-level features are critical for localizing large text instances. When using Feature Pyramid Network (FPN) for multi-scale feature fusion, it will prevent the flow of accurate localization signals due to the long path from low-level to top-level. In order to solve these two problems, this paper proposes an Adaptive Convolution and Path Enhancement Pyramid Network (ACPEPNet), which can more accurately locate the text instances with arbitrary shapes. Firstly, an Adaptive Convolution Unit is introduced to improve the ability of backbone to aggregate multi-scale spatial information at the same stage. Specially, this unit is a lightweight component and without the cost of computations, based on this component we present a backbone network for text features extraction. Secondly, the original FPN structure is redesigned to build a short path from the low-level to top-level, in this way, we modify the path from one-way flow to two-way flow and add original features to the final stage of information fusion. Experiments on CTW1500, Total-Text, ICDAR 2015 and MSRA-TD500 validate the robustness of the proposed method. When there is no bells and whistles, this method achieves an F-measure of 80.8% without external training data on CTW1500.

Three-dimensional (3D) technology including 3D reconstruction and 3D printing technology, has been widely used in clinical treatment, especially in surgical planning, and image navigation technology, which can make surgical procedures more accurate, now is also increasingly favored by surgeons. But the combination of those 2 technologies was rarely reported. Thus, this study will preliminarily investigate the feasibility and the effect of the combination of 2 technologies in endonasal skull base surgery. Eight patients were involved in this study (from October 2016 to July 2017 at The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University), 5 cases of nasal skull base tumors and 3 cases of foreign body perforation. All operations were done under the assistance of 3D technology and image guidance system. Surgical discussion with patient, preoperative planning and clinical teaching were investigated between 2D images and 3D models by voting. For all cases, 3D reconstruction model and 3D printed model were deemed to be more helpful than CT/MRI images in surgical discussion with the patient; surgical simulation on 3D model in preoperative planning was largely deemed to be helpful and very helpful; and in clinical teaching, 3D models combined with image guidance system were deemed to be more helpful in understanding the disease than using 2D images. Besides, all patients recovered well after surgery, no recurrence and complications were found in the follow-up. The combination of 3D technology and electromagnetic image guidance system could improve surgical efficiency and the quality of clinical teaching.

Objectives: We performed this meta-analysis to assess the correlation of retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane Library for population-based studies reporting the CKD as associated factor to RVO, central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) or branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). Then we pooled the data for analysis. Results: After screening potential literature, 12 eligible studies with 23,656,214 individuals were finally included in quantitative synthesis. The pooled prevalence (95% confidence interval [CI]) of CKD in RVO group was 10.9% (95% CI: 6.6%, 15.1%). The pooled prevalence of any RVO in end stage renal disease (ESRD) group was 1.8% (95% CI: 1.6%, 2.1%). The prevalence of CKD was significantly higher in subjects diagnosed with RVO than non-RVO participants (odds ratio [OR]: 3.30; 95% CI: 2.28, 4.76; p Conclusion: The prevalence of CKD increases in RVO patients, especially in CRVO. And in turn, the prevalence of RVO also increases in ESRD patients. The data support a correlation of RVO and CKD.

Tailoring mechanical properties of the nanowire (NW) with intricate composite structure helps to design nanodevices with novel functionalities. Here, we performed in situ tensile deformation electron microscopy for the evaluation of the mechanical properties of the focused ion beam (FIB) irradiated silicon nitride (Si3N4) nanowires (NWs). Young's modulus of the FIB-fabricated NWs was mediated between the range of 522 and 65 GPa by modifying the shell thickness of the core-shell structure. The ion-beam-induced amorphization is found to induce the structural transition from an utter crystalline state to a composite NW with an amorphous shell, which results in a brittle-to-ductile transition and an unexpected plastic deformation. These results have practical implications for optimizing nanostructures with the desired mechanical properties, which are of fundamental relevance in designing and fabricating nanomechanical devices.

Ultrathin oxides have been reported to possess excellent properties in electronic, magnetic, optical, and catalytic fields. However, the current and primary approaches toward the preparation of ultrathin oxides are only applicable to amorphous or polycrystalline oxide nanosheets or films. Here, we successfully synthesize high-quality ultrathin antimony oxide single crystals via a substrate-buffer-controlled chemical vapor deposition strategy. The as-obtained ultrathin antimony oxide single crystals exhibit high dielectric constant (~100) and large breakdown voltage (~5.7 GV m−1). Such a strategy can also be utilized to fabricate other ultrathin oxides, opening up an avenue in broadening the applicaitons of ultrathin oxides in many emerging fields., The ultrathin oxide nanosheets obtained through previous approaches usually exhibit amorphism or polycrystallinity, which limit their properties towards electronic devices. Here, the authors synthesize ultrathin antimony oxide single crystals with high dielectric constant (~100) and large breakdown voltage (~5.7 GV m−1).

In recent years, the incidence of blunt cardiac injury (BCI) has increased rapidly and is an important cause of death in trauma patients. This study aimed to explore early diagnosis and therapy to increase survival. All patients with BCI during the past 15 years were analyzed retrospectively regarding the mechanism of injury, diagnostic and therapeutic methods, and outcome. The patients were divided into two groups according to the needs of their condition—nonoperative (Group A) and operative (Group B). Comparisons of the groups were performed. A total of 348 patients with BCI accounted for 18.3 per cent of 1903 patients with blunt thoracic injury. The main cause of injury was traffic accidents, with an incidence of 48.3 per cent. In Group A (n = 305), most patients sustained myocardial contusion, and the mortality was 6.9 per cent. In Group B (n = 43), including those with cardiac rupture and pericardial hernia, the mortality was 32.6 per cent. Comparisons of the groups regarding the shock rate and mortality were significant ( P < 0.01). Deaths directly resulting from BCI in Group B were greater than those in Group A ( P < 0.05). In all 348 patients, the mortality rate was 10.1 per cent. When facing a patient with blunt thoracic injury, a high index of suspicion for BCI must be maintained. To manage myocardial contusion, it is necessary to protect the heart, alleviate edema of the myocardium, and control arrhythmia with drugs. To deal with those requiring operation, early recognition and expeditious thoracotomy are essential.

SUMMARYThe authors summarize the main dynamic balancing methods of robotic mechanisms in this paper. The majority of dynamic balancing methods have been presented, and there may be other dynamic balancing methods that are not included in this paper. Each of the balancing methods is reviewed and discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of each method are presented and compared. The goal of this paper is to provide an overview of recent research in balancing. The authors hope that this study can provide an informative reference for future research in the direction of dynamic balancing of robotic mechanisms.

A stepped-impedance resonator with an interdigital capacitor (IDC) structure has been proposed to design a wideband filter with a wide and deep stopband. With the increase of the IDC part, there is always a maximum ratio of a spurious resonance frequency to a fundamental resonance frequency whether we change the length or number of interdigital fingers. We increase the width of a microstrip line loaded with the IDC structure to reduce the fundamental resonance frequency and increase the spurious resonance frequency. The harmonic ratio of the proposed resonator is raised to 5.6. Moreover, we bend the narrow microstrip line into a meander line to realize the strong coupling for a wideband filter. A ten-pole high-temperature superconducting filter centered at 2.128 GHz with a 22.7% bandwidth is fabricated for demonstration. The filter is fabricated on a 0.5-mm-thick MgO substrate with a circuit size of 26 × 10 mm. The measured maximum insertion loss in passband is 0.11 dB and the return loss is better than 17.3 dB. The measured out-of-band rejection is better than 80 dB up to 8.728 GHz, which is about 4.1 times of the center frequency.

Organic solar cells (OSCs) is a promising next-generation photovoltaic technology, however, the device stability remains to be the main barrier for its future commercialization. Herein, we reported the application of a sub-nanometer Al2O3 barrier layer in nonfullerene OSCs via atomic layer deposition (ALD), for the purpose of preventing metal ion diffusion from indium tin oxide (ITO) into the polymer layer caused by the corrosion of Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly (styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS). The thickness of the ALD-Al2O3 barrier layer was precisely optimized by controlling the number of ALD cycles (n) to achieve simultaneously good photoelectric properties and conformal coverage. An average power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 15.02% was demonstrated for the optimal OSCs with ALD-Al2O3 barrier layer. The above mentioned suppression of metal ion diffusion was experimentally confirmed by the cross sectional observations of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and chemical mapping from energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), resulting in a significantly improved operational stability with a device lifetime 3-times longer than that without ALD-Al2O3 barrier layer. Such ALD-assisted interface modification provides an effective approach to realize high-performance and stable OSCs.

All patients with BCIs during the past 15 years were reviewed, and those who underwent operative treatment were analyzed retrospectively regarding the mechanism of injury, diagnostic and therapeutic methods, and outcome. A total of 348 patients with BCIs accounted for 18.3% of 1903 patients with blunt thoracic injury (BTI). Of 348 patients, 43 underwent operative treatment. The main cause of injury was traffic accidents, with an incidence of 48.8%. Of them, steering wheel injuries occurred in 15 patients. In 26 patients, a preoperative diagnosis was obtained by echocardiography, CT scanning, etc. In the remaining 17, who had to undergo urgent thoracotomy without any preoperative imaging, a definitive diagnosis of BCI was proven during the operation. In this work, we have systematically investigated the post-thermal annealing-induced enhancement in photovoltaic performance of a 2,4-bis[4-(N, N-diisobutylamino)-2,6-dihydroxyphenyl] squaraine (DIBSQ)/C60 planar heterojunction (PHJ) organic solar cells (OSCs). An increased power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 3.28% has been realized from a DIBSQ/C60 device with thermal annealing at 100 °C for 4 min, which is about 33% enhancement compared with that of the as-cast device. The improvement of the device performance may be mainly ascribed to the crystallinity of the DIBSQ film with post-thermal annealing, which will change the DIBSQ donor and C60 acceptor interface from ^PHJ to hybrid planar-mixed heterojunction. This new donor-acceptor heterojunction structure will significantly improve the charge separation and charge collection efficiency, as well as the open circuit voltage (Voc) of the device, leading to an enhanced PCE. This work provides an effective strategy to improve the photovoltaic performance of SQ-based OSCs.

To investigate microvascular abnormalities in diabetic patients without conventional clinical signs of diabetic retinopathy (DR). In this cross-sectional observational cohort study, the study group included randomly chosen participants of a community-based cohort with diabetes type 2 without DR, and the control group consisted of non-diabetic individuals from a population-based study. All participants underwent optical coherence tomographic angiography (OCTA). Upon OCTA, 118 (40.4%) eyes of the study group (n = 292 eyes) showed microvascular abnormalities including foveal avascular zone erosion (95 (32.5%) eyes), non-perfusion areas in the superficial and deep retinal layers (39 (13.4%) eyes and 19 (6.5%) eyes, respectively), and microaneurysms in the superficial and deep retinal layers (22 (7.5%) eyes and 31 (10.6%) eyes, resp.). None of these abnormalities was detected in the control group (n = 80). Ultraviolet (UV) organic optoelectronic devices have attracted extensive research owing to their great potential in variety of applications such as biological and chemical sensing, excitation light sources, high-density information storage, and optoelectronic circuits. This review focusses on UV organic light-emitting diodes and organic solid-state lasers, and covers their recent development from organic chromophores and device configuration to practical applications. Firstly, materials with efficient short-wavelength emission are summarized with an emphasis on the characteristics of their structures. Subsequently, we outline the device architectures used for increasing the efficiency and performance of the devices. Finally, we discuss the progress and challenges of using UV OLEDs and organic solid-state lasers as excitation sources in emerging applications and hope this can help stimulate the exploitation of UV light sources in more applications in future.

Highly reflective and conductive distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs) are the key for high-performance III-nitride optoelectronic devices, such as vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs), but they still suffer from lack of lattice-matched conductive DBR and uncontrollable processes. In this work, nanostructured GaN-based DBRs were fabricated and optimized both experimentally and simulatively using electrochemical etching (EC) in different electrolytes using the transfer-matrix method (TMM) to obtain uniform wafer scale, highly reflective and conductive reflectors for the application of GaN-based optoelectronics. The results revealed that a nanostructured GaN-based DBR with high reflectivity (>93%) and broad stopband (∼80 nm) could be achieved in neutral sodium nitrate by EC, and the nanostructured GaN DBR with a full visible spectrum range could be designed by tuning the thickness of the nanostructured GaN DBR layers. The photoluminescence (PL) and light-out power enhancements of the GaN-based micro-LED by incorporating the fabricated nanostructured GaN-based DBR were 6 times and 150% without the degradation of electrical performance, respectively, which contributed to strong light scattering from the DBR layers. We believe that this work will pave a way to obtain high-performance GaN-based optoelectronic devices and guide the applications in the field of flexible devices and biomedical sensors.

Inverted organic light-emitting diodes (IOLEDs) have a bottom cathode, making them convenient to integrate with the preferred n-type active matrix OLED driving technologies. Furthermore, inverted OLEDs show much better air-stability compared with conventional OLEDs, due to the very reactive and sensitive of alkali doped electron injection layer (EIL) towards ambient oxygen and moisture. For inverted OLEDs, the bottleneck to limit their efficiency and stability is the interface at cathode/EIL and light emitting layer (EML)/charge transporting layer. In this paper, we have investigated the effect of different electron/hole transporting layers on the turn-on voltage, efficiency roll-off and power consumption of inverted orange OLEDs. We found that the device exhibits extremely-low efficiency roll-off and a significant lifetime improvement.

Background Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common type of extracranial solid tumour in children. The overall prognosis of NB is poor, but at the same time, NB shows significant clinical diversity. NB can demonstrate spontaneous regression or can differentiate into benign ganglioneuroma. Case summary This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of a patient with spontaneous regression of stage III NB who was admitted in May 2015. Studies of the spontaneous regression of NB published from October 1946 to September 2019 were retrieved through PubMed. The clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up results were analysed. Conclusion Spontaneous regression of stage III NB is rare in the clinic. The report of this case is an important supplement to the study of the spontaneous regression of NB.

This article presents a primed left ventricle heart perfusion method to generate physiologic aortic pressure (AoP) and perform functional assessment. Isolated hearts of male Yorkshire pigs were used to study the hemodynamic behaviors of AoPs generated in the primed left ventricle heart perfusion (n = 6) and conventional (zero-loaded left ventricle) Langendorff perfusion (n = 6). The measurement results show that left ventricular pressure generated in the primed left ventricle heart perfusion is a determinant of physiologic AoP (i.e. systolic and diastolic pressures within physiologic range). The aortic pulse pressure (systolic pressure = 124.5 ± 1.7 mm Hg, diastolic pressure = 87.8 ± 0.9 mm Hg, aortic pulse pressure = 36.7 ± 2.6 mm Hg) from the primed left ventricle heart perfusion represents close match with the in vivo physiologic data. The volume in the left ventricle remains constant throughout the primed left ventricle heart perfusion, which allows us to perform isovolumetric left ventricular pressure measurement in ex vivo heart perfusion (EVHP). Left ventricular contractility measurements (maximum and minimum rates of left ventricular pressure change) were derived for cardiac assessment. In summary, the proposed primed left ventricle heart perfusion method is able to create physiologic AoP and enables left ventricular functional assessment in EVHP in porcine hearts.

Two-dimensional (2D) bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) with van der Waals heterostructures play an important role in the development of future nanoelectronics. Herein, a convenient method is introduced for fabricating a symmetric bipolar junction transistor (SBJT), constructed from black phosphorus and MoS2, with femtosecond laser processing. This SBJT exhibits good bidirectional current amplification owing to its symmetric structure. We placed a top gate on one side of the SBJT to change the difference in the major carrier concentration between the emitter and collector in order to further investigate the effects of electrostatic doping on the device performance. The SBJT can also act as a gate-tunable phototransistor with good photodetectivity and photocurrent gain of β = ∼21. Scanning photocurrent images were used to determine the mechanism governing photocurrent amplification in the phototransistor. These results promote the development of the applications of multifunctional nanoelectronics based on 2D materials.

Recently the phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PhOLEDs) have attracted tremendous attention owing to their extremely high performance. However, PhOLEDs always suffer from the annihilation and quenching of excitons due to higher guest doping concentration. In this work, to obtain a high efficiency red PhOLED, a gradient-doped emitting layer (EML) was employed in the device to improve the device efficiency and suppress the annihilation of excitons. A significant enhancement in terms of current efficiency (CE) and power efficiency (PE) of PhOLEDs with optimized gradient-doped EML was realized with the maximum CE of 13.84 cd A-1 and PE of 18.11 lm W−1, which are 33.9% and 60.7% higher than that of the control device, respectively. The enhanced performance of the PhOLEDs is attributed to the lower guest doping concentration in gradient-doped EML and balanced hole/electron recombination, leading to the reduced triplet-triplet annihilation and triplet-polaron quenching. The simple strategy opens a new avenue for fabricating high-performance PhOLEDs.

A twin spiral-in–spiral-out (SISO) resonator has been proposed in the design of a compact ultra-narrowband high temperature superconducting filter. We systematically investigated the relationship between the coupling characteristics and the structure of the twin SISO resonator. Coupling strength and polarity can be effectively changed by adjusting the resonator structural ratio. This method of optimizing the ratio of the twin SISO resonator structure has an advantage of achieving stable and weak coupling, even if the resonator distance is relatively narrow, thereby promoting the miniaturization of the filter. Moreover, the three methods of optimizing ratio, distance, and staggering of adjacent resonators could be regarded as three degrees of freedom for adjusting the adjacent coupling to meet design needs. To demonstrate this method, we designed and fabricated a six-order superconducting filter with a fractional bandwidth of 0.18% at 2258 MHz based on the optimized twin SISO resonator. The resulting measurement shows a good agreement with the simulation.

Inverted top-emitting organic light-emitting devices (TEOLEDs) have great potential in flat-panel displays and lighting, yet poor electron injection is a key issue limiting its use in active-matrix OLED. Here, a high-performance green phosphorescent inverted TEOLEDs with ZnO and ZnS double electron injection layers (EILs) were demonstrated. The double EILs which provide a work function gradient can greatly enhance the electron-injection efficiency. For the green phosphorescent TEOLED device based on this double EILs, a high current efficiency of 33.1 cd A−1 is achieved with low turn-on voltage of 4.0 V. Results indicate that a novel pathway of electron transport to accelerate electron injection is created by applying this double EILs.

Predicting antidepressant treatment response has been a clinical challenge for major depressive disorder (MDD). The inflammation hypothesis of depression suggests that cytokines play a key role in the pathophysiology of MDD and alterations in peripheral cytokine levels are associated with antidepressant treatment outcome. Present meta-analysis aimed to examine the association between baseline peripheral cytokine levels and the response to antidepressant treatment and to evaluate whether changes of cytokine levels were associated with the response to antidepressant treatment in patients with MDD. Human-based studies published in any language in peer-reviewed journals were systematically searched from the PubMed, Embase and Web of Science databases, from inception up to October 2018. The search terms included cytokine, depressive disorder and antidepressant and their synonyms. Case-control or case-case studies reporting on levels of IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, CRP, TNF-α, IFN-γ, GMCSF, MIP-1α and Eotaxin-1 in patients with MDD based on validated depression scales both before and after antidepressant treatment were included. Of 7408 identified records, 44 studies met inclusion. Standardized mean differences in each cytokine were evaluated and random-effects meta-analyses were performed. MDD patients who responded to antidepressant treatment had lower baseline IL-8 levels than the non-responders (Hedge’s g = -0.28; 95% CI, -0.43 to -0.13; P = 0.0003; FDR = 0.004). Antidepressant treatment significantly decreased levels of TNF-α (Hedge’s g = 0.60; 95% CI, 0.26 to 0.94; P = 0.0006; FDR = 0.004) only in responders and responders showed significantly more decreased TNF-α levels compared to non-responders (P = 0.046). These findings suggested that alterations in peripheral cytokine levels were associated with antidepressant treatment outcomes in MDD. Further investigations are warranted to elucidate sources of heterogeneity and examine the potentiality of using inflammatory cytokines as novel predictive markers for the pharmacological treatment of MDD.

Imbalanced learning has become a research emphasis in recent years because of the growing number of class-imbalance classification problems in real applications. It is particularly challenging when the imbalanced rate is very high. Sampling, including under-sampling and over-sampling, is an intuitive and popular way in dealing with class-imbalance problems, which tries to regroup the original dataset and is also proved to be efficient. The main deficiency is that under-sampling methods usually ignore many majority class examples while over-sampling methods may easily cause over-fitting problem. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm dubbed KA-Ensemble ensembling under-sampling and over-sampling to overcome this issue. Our KA-Ensemble explores EasyEnsemble framework by under-sampling the majority class randomly and over-sampling the minority class via kernel based adaptive synthetic (Kernel-ADASYN) at meanwhile, yielding a group of balanced datasets to train corresponding classifiers separately, and the final result will be voted by all these trained classifiers. Through combining under-sampling and over-sampling in this way, KA-Ensemble is good at solving class-imbalance problems with large imbalanced rate. We evaluated our proposed method with state-of-the-art sampling methods on 9 image classification datasets with different imbalanced rates ranging from less than 2 to more than 15, and the experimental results show that our KA-Ensemble performs better in terms of accuracy (ACC), F-Measure, G-Mean, and area under curve (AUC). Moreover, it can be used in both dichotomy and multi-classification on both image classification and other class-imbalance problems.

PURPOSE To examine frequency and associations of retinal hemorrhages. METHODS The population-based Beijing Eye Study included 3,468 individuals. Monoscopic fundus photographs were examined for hemorrhages. RESULTS Retinal hemorrhages were detected in 515 eyes (429 individuals) (prevalence: 7.6%; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 7.0-8.0 per eye; 12.7%; 95% CI: 11.7-13.7 per person). Higher prevalence of retinal hemorrhages was correlated (multivariate analysis) with higher systolic blood pressure (P < 0.001; odds ratio: 1.02; 95% CI: 1.01-1.03), higher prevalence of diabetic retinopathy (P < 0.001; odds ratio: 121; 95% CI: 61-240), and higher prevalence of retinal vein occlusions (P < 0.001; odds ratio: 27; 95% CI: 17-42). Retinal hemorrhages were due to diabetic retinopathy (189 [36.7%] eyes), retinal vein occlusions (n = 65 [12.6%]), posterior vitreous detachment (n = 23 [4.5%]), glaucoma (n = 14 [2.7%]), exudative age-related macular degeneration (n = 8 [1.6%]), hypertensive retinopathy (n = 10 [1.9%]), and exudative myopic maculopathy (n = 1 [0.2%]). Retinal hemorrhages without evident ocular cause ("NOH") were detected in 204 (3.0%) eyes (or 39.6% of all retinal hemorrhages). Higher prevalence of NOHs was correlated with higher systolic blood pressure (P < 0.001; odds ratio: 1.02; 95% CI: 1.01-1.03) after adjusting for blood glucose concentration and prevalence of cortical cataract. CONCLUSION In a population-based recruited cohort of individuals aged 50+ years, prevalence of any fundus hemorrhage was about 8% per eye and 13% per individual. Approximately 60% of the hemorrhages were due to ocular reasons, mainly diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and posterior vitreous detachment, whereas 40% of the bleedings were not evidently associated with ophthalmologic causes but strongly with elevated systolic blood pressure.
