The accreditation process of french health care organisations has been based on a combination of self-assessment by hospitals and accreditation survey conducted by surveyors, both making use of the same evaluation criteria. Self-assessment and on-site surveys were therefore based on very similar principles, and self-assessment was considered primarily as a reflective practice to be compared to external assessment.
