As extra-territorial voting is typically based on postal voting, legal problems are to be expected in this context. Due to the nature of postal voting abroad simple issues of postal transit - e.g. postal delays and the opening of postal votes by foreign authorities -- cause legal problems and imponderabilities that influence the results of national elections as well as they affect the constitutional principle of the generality of voting. Against this backdrop the following article aims to point out crucial legal aspects of cross-border delivery of voting documents in contrast to electronic voting.
