1. Perioperative mortality and morbidity of hip fractures among COVID-19 infected and non-infected patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: PURPOSE: Hip fractures among elderly patients are surgical emergencies. During COVID-19 pandemic time, many such patients could not be operated at early time because of the limitation of the medical resources, the risk of infection and redirection of medical attention to a severe infective health problem. METHODS: A search of electronic databases (PubMed, Medline, CINAHL, EMBASE and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials) with the keywords "COVID", "COVID-19â³, "SARS-COV-2", "Corona", "pandemic", "hip fracture", "trochanteric fracture" and "neck femur fracture" revealed 64 studies evaluating treatment of hip fracture in elderly patients during COVID-19 pandemic time. The 30-day mortality rate, inpatient mortality rate, critical care/special care need, readmission rate and complications rate in both groups were evaluated. Data were analyzed using Review Manager (RevMan) V.5.3. RESULTS: After screening, 7 studies were identified that described the mortality and morbidity in hip fractures in both COVID-19 infected (COVID-19 +) and non-infected (COVID-19 -) patients. There were significantly increased risks of 30-day mortality (32.23% COVID-19 + death vs. 8.85% COVID-19 - death) and inpatient mortality (29.33% vs. 2.62%) among COVID-19 + patients with odds ratio (OR) of 4.84 (95% CI: 3.13-7.47, p

2. Artificial intelligence technique based performance estimation of solid oxide fuel cells

Abstract: In General, a larger number of experimental data would be required for optimizing the performance efficiency of the electrodes in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), as it was likely to involve many complex chemical and physical reactions. Therefore, in this study, we have attempted the artificial intelligence (AI) technique for analyzing the performance of the anode and cathode electrodes of SOFC under various key parameters that normally influences the efficiency of the electrodes. Since the cost of SOFC elements is expensive, computational trials with the aid of AI would not only be curtailing the preparation cost but also ensures less time consumption. Among the variety of AI methods available in the literature, the Support Vector Machine (SVM) appears to be one of the excellent and effective machine learning techniques. Hence, we have developed a SVM model and predicted the maximum current density and power density of Nickel oxide-samarium-doped ceria (NiO-SDC) composite anode and La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ (LSCF) cathode electrodes of SOFC. The input parameters such as stack temperature, supply voltage were supplied to the SVM model and obtained maximum current density and power density as output and it decides the working performance of the electrodes. We have also predicted that the maximum current density and power density of 1160 mA cm2 and 225 mW cm2 respectively at 800 °C. To validate the results as predicted from SVM, we have experimented using Yttrium stabilized zirconia electrolyte-supported single cell with our prepared NiO-SDC anode and LSCF cathode which exhibited a maximum current and power density of 1170 mA cm2 and 227 mW cm2 at 800 °C using H2 as fuel. It has been found that that the theoretical predicted data current and power densities of the electrodes from the SVM approach reasonably agrees well with the experimental results.

3. Effect of single dose intravenous tranexamic acid on blood loss in tangential excision of burn wounds — A double blind randomised controlled trial

Abstract: This study was carried out to evaluate role of intravenous tranexamic acid (TXA) in reducing blood loss during tangential excision of burns.This was a single center, prospective double-blinded parallel arm superiority randomized placebo-controlled trial. Patients (15-55 years) with deep dermal thermal burns30% undergoing tangential excision were randomly assigned (1:1) to TXA and placebo groups. Patients in TXA and placebo groups received injection TXA 15 mg/kg and 10 ml saline respectively, 10 min preoperatively. Primary outcome was volume of blood loss per square centimeter area of burn excised. Secondary outcomes were total volume of blood loss, postoperative hemoglobin, intraoperative fluid requirement, blood transfusion, graft take and length of hospitalization (LOH).Thirty patients were included. Both groups were comparable in terms of Body Mass Index (BMI) preoperative hemoglobin, area of burn excised, duration of surgery and the intraoperative temperature. The average blood loss per square centimeter burn area excised was found to be significantly lower in TXA when compared to placebo group (mean difference: 0.28 ± 0.025 ml/cmTXA reduced blood loss per unit burn area of tangential excision in30%TBSA burn, however, we found no significant effect on postoperative Hb and transfusion.

Abstract: BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the commonest cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. Despite the high prevalence, no screening recommendations yet exist. We designed a prospective observational study to estimate the prevalence of NAFLD in the family of patients with NAFLD and develop a predictive model for identifying it. METHODOLOGY: The prevalence of NAFLD in patients’ family members was estimated using ultrasonography, and univariate and multivariate odds were calculated for its predictors. A model was created using the significant parameters on multivariate odds, and its performance was tested using the area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC). RESULTS: Among 447 family members of 191 patients with NAFLD, the prevalence of NAFLD was 55.9%. Family members with NAFLD were younger and had lower serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), triglycerides. The liver stiffness measurement and controlled attenuation parameter values were also lesser in family members compared to the index cases. Age, body mass index (BMI), and ALT were independent predictors of NAFLD in the family members. A model combining age and BMI had an AUROC of 0.838 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.800–0.876, P < 0.001]. Age ≥30 years and BMI ≥25 kg/m(2) had an odds ratio of 33.5 (95% CI 17.0–66.0, P < 0.001) for prediction of NAFLD, in comparison to BMI

Abstract: Segmentation of MRI images in the presence of artifacts such as noise and bias field effect is challenging. In this work, to handle both artifacts, we have formulated an intuitionistic fuzzy set theory based bias-corrected intuitionistic fuzzy c-means with spatial neighborhood information method for MRI image segmentation. We represent the image in terms of intuitionistic fuzzy sets using two well-known intuitionistic fuzzy generation functions, namely Sugeno's and Yager's negation functions. In this way, the proposed approach takes advantage of the intuitionistic fuzzy set theory to address the uncertainty and vagueness present in data. The spatial neighborhood information term helps to retain the fine image details in the segmentation process, which is usually lost when smoothing is used. The bias field effect is modeled as a slow varying intensity field additive in nature with mean zero in IFS framework. The proposed approach estimates the bias field and produces a segmented image simultaneously. The segmentation performance of the proposed method is evaluated in terms of the Dice score, average segmentation accuracy, and index of variation. Further, the comparison of the proposed method with other similar state-of-the-art methods on two well-known publicly available Brain MRI datasets shows the significant improvements in segmentation performance in terms of average segmentation accuracy, Dice score, and index of variation. The proposed approach achieves 93% average segmentation accuracy in the presence of severe bias field and noise artifacts on BrainWeb simulated dataset, which outperformed the state-of-the-art methods.

6. Decision Support System for Optimal Selection of Software Reliability Growth Models Using a Hybrid Approach

Abstract: A hybrid approach, namely “entropy-combinative distance-Based assessment (CODAS-E),” is proposed and presented to select and rank software reliability growth models based on multiple performance indexes, which is hitherto not applied in the open literature for the purpose. In the proposed hybrid approach, i.e., CODAS-E, the Shannon entropy approach is used to obtain the performance indexes’ priority weights and the CODAS method is used for optimum selection and ranking. The methodology is illustrated through two previously published different failure datasets. The ranking results depict that “Zhang-Teng-Pham” is the least suited model for software reliability estimation, whereas “Musa Okumoto” and “Yamada Imperfect debugging2” are best suitable for dataset-1 and dataset-2, respectively. The CODAS-E method is validated comparing with existing multicriteria decision-making methods; namely, technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution and analytic hierarchy process. The significant contributions of the present research article include implementation of efficient, user-friendly, and time effective CODAS-E methodology to find the optimal model and the best overall ranking of employed models for any given dataset, and importance to the taxonomy of NHPP SRGMs rather than adding any new model. The presented model selection strategy will undoubtedly lead to high-quality software development.

Abstract: ‘PSB Portal’ is a micro-service digital platform which primarily connects funding needs of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to Banks for business. It is a strategic initiative of SIBDI with five other Public Sector Banks and was launched by Government of India, in November 2018, to provide loans to MSMEs of up to Rs.1 crore. The main motive of this initiative is to ease the process of fund availability to MSMEs and decrease the turnaround time of credit delivery to MSME sector. The new ‘PSB portal’ also makes it possible to provide timely finance at reasonable and competitive rates of interest to MSME sector. MSME sector forms a vital component of the economy in terms of their contribution to employment generation, exports and inclusive growth. One-third of the country's GDP is contributed by more than 50 million MSMEs in India. Thus, the role of MSMEs in the economic and social development of the country is not to be over-looked. There is need for finance that meets the life-cycle needs of MSMEs with a strong oversight mechanism in Banks to see that MSME-related lending policies are implemented at the operating level, is high. Such measures by the Government would serve the purpose of ease of access to funding requirements of MSME’s and also help open new avenues for Banks to increase their business while tapping new customers thereby increasing their priority sector assets. It will make formal banking more inclusive and deepen the roots of financial inclusion via digitization in the economy. After almost after a year of this initiative, on September 5 2019, Retail products (Home Loan Personal Loan and Auto Loan) were also added to the portal to increase the ease of credit to retail customers to further facilitate purchasing power in the economy. This paper will analyse the challenges faced by the Bankers while financing MSMEs via PSB portal and the reasons for rejection of the applications with further prospects of the scheme.

11. Fuzzy k-plane clustering method with local spatial information for segmentation of human brain MRI image

Abstract: Human brain MRI images are complex, and matters present in the brain exhibit non-spherical shape. There exits uncertainty in the overlapping structure of brain tissue, i.e. a lack of distinctness in the class definition. Soft clustering methods can efficiently handle the uncertainty, and plane-based clustering methods are found to be more efficient for non-spherical shape data. Fuzzy k-plane clustering (FkPC) method is a soft plane-based clustering algorithms that can handle the uncertainty in medical images, but its performance degraded in the presence of noise. In this research work, we incorporated local spatial information in the FkPC clustering method to handle the noise present in the image. This spatial regularization term included in the proposed FkPC_S method refines the membership value of noisy pixel with the help of immediate neighbour pixels information. To show the effectiveness of the proposed FkPC_S method, extensive experiments are performed on one synthetic image and two publicly available human brain MRI datasets. The performance of the proposed method is compared with 10 related methods in terms of average segmentation accuracy and dice score. The experiments result shows that the proposed FkPC_S method is superior in comparison with 10 related methods in the presence of noise. Statistically significance difference and superior performance of the proposed method in comparison with other methods are also found using Friedman test.

Abstract: Feature selection (FS) is defined as the process of selecting a criterion function for evaluating a feature subset and a search strategy for finding the best feature subset from a large number of feature subsets. Many strategies have been established to date, most of which are based on statistical theory; nevertheless, research is currently ongoing to find better solutions in terms of optimality and computing ease. In FS, where most other methods require supplemental knowledge, the rough set ideology of using only the available data and no further information offers several advantages. The key drawback is that the rough set-based feature selection does not function well on data that are real-valued or noisy (continuous datasets). To overcome this problem, we propose three algorithms based on particle swarm optimization with fuzzy rough fitness function for getting optimal feature subset from a feature set with a large number of features (i.e. continuous or discrete datasets). The suggested algorithms are compared against two classical feature selection methods, as well as three PSO and rough set-based feature selection approaches. Seven commonly used discrete datasets with a modest number of features and eight continuous datasets with a large number of features were utilized in the experiments. Two classification techniques (decision tree or DT and Naive Bays or NB) are used to evaluate the classification performance of selected feature subsets. The results show that using the proposed techniques, a small feature subset may be automatically selected with better classification accuracy than utilizing all features. In terms of classification accuracy and amount of features, the suggested algorithms beat the two traditional and three PSO and rough sets-based feature selection approaches. There is also a significant reduction in the number of features with higher weight on the rapid reduct of the fitness function, as well as improved classification accuracy.

Abstract: Objective The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare the functional outcomes and complications of external fixation (EF) versus open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) in the treatment of complex tibial plateau fractures. Methods Based on a comprehensive search of major databases through PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), 19 studies comparing EF versus ORIF in treatment of complex tibial plateau fractures (Schatzker V-VI/ OTA C1, C2, and C3) were included in the studies. There was one randomized controlled trial, two prospective comparative studies, 14 retrospective comparative studies, and two conference papers. From these studies, the data regarding functional and surgical outcomes as well as complications were obtained and pooled to conduct a comparison between the two methods of treatment. Results 1191 tibial plateau fractures were determined by the systematic review. Of those fractures, 543 were treated using EF, and 648 were treated using ORIF with plate and screws. All the studies included the young patients with traumatic tibial plateau fractures with mean ages from 40 to 60 years. The analysis of pooled data revealed significantly better functional outcome in patients operated with EF (standard mean difference [SMD] = 0.29, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.04-0.55, P = 0.02, I2= 0%). However, according to categorical functional outcomes, no significant differences were found (OR 0.80, 95%CI: 0.47, 1.34, P=0.39, I2= 31%). The range of movement at the knee joint was significantly better in patients treated by EF (mean difference [MD] = 7.86, 95%CI = 3.56 -12.17, P = 0.0003). The surgical time in the EF group was significantly shorter compared to the ORIF group (MD = -52.11, 95%CI = -99.62-(-4.60), P = 0.03). Similarly, the intraoperative blood loss was significantly lesser in the EF group (MD = -341.53, 95%CI = -528.18- (-154.88), P = 0.0003). Although the superficial infection was more frequent in the EF group (odds ratio [OR] = 3.22, P = 0.0002), there were no differences in the deep infection and overall infection rates. Also, there were no differences in reoperation rate, knee stiffness, compartment syndrome, and venous thromboembolism. The radiographic osteoarthritis was more common in the EF group (OR = 1.56, P = 0.04); however, there was no difference in the need for total knee arthroplasty between the two treatment modalities. Conclusion EF provides better functional outcomes and range of motion compared to ORIF in the treatment of complex tibial plateau fractures. With shorter surgical time and lesser intraoperative blood loss, EF can be considered as a definite treatment method in open injuries, polytrauma patients, and chronically morbid patients who cannot withstand prolonged surgery. Abstract: Objectives Oxytocin (OXT) is widely used to facilitate labor. However, little is known about the effects of perinatal OXT exposure on the developing brain. We investigated the effects of maternal OXT administration on gene expression in perinatal mouse brains. Methods Pregnant C57BL/6 mice were treated with saline or OXT at term (n=6–7/group). Dams and pups were euthanized on gestational day (GD) 18.5 after delivery by C-section. Another set of dams was treated with saline or OXT (n=6–7/group) and allowed to deliver naturally; pups were euthanized on postnatal day 9 (PND9). Perinatal/neonatal brain gene expression was determined using Illumina BeadChip Arrays and real time quantitative PCR. Differential gene expression analyses were performed. In addition, the effect of OXT on neurite outgrowth was assessed using PC12 cells. Results Distinct and sex-specific gene expression patterns were identified in offspring brains following maternal OXT administration at term. The microarray data showed that female GD18.5 brains exhibited more differential changes in gene expression compared to male GD18.5 brains. Specifically, Cnot4 and Frmd4a were significantly reduced by OXT exposure in male and female GD18.5 brains, whereas Mtap1b, Srsf11, and Syn2 were significantly reduced only in female GD18.5 brains. No significant microarray differences were observed in PND9 brains. By quantitative PCR, OXT exposure reduced Oxtr expression in female and male brains on GD18.5 and PND9, respectively. PC12 cell differentiation assays revealed that OXT induced neurite outgrowth. Conclusions Prenatal OXT exposure induces sex-specific differential regulation of several nervous system-related genes and pathways with important neural functions in perinatal brains.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to harness and store solar energy through Indigo Carmine dye–Formic acid photogalvanic cells. The photogalvanic cells based on photo-sensitizer Indigo Carmine dye-surfactant Sodium Lauryl Sulphate-reductant Formic acid–NaOH alkaline medium has shown encouraging and very impressive improvement in solar energy conversion and storage. This combination of chemicals has shown harnessing of 985.6 μ W maximum powers with a storage capacity of 115 min as half change time from the 10.4 mWcm−2 artificial and low illumination intensity. In this study, the observed optimum cell performance in terms of the maximum potential, maximum photocurrent, and short-circuit current is 1086 mV, 6400 μ A, and 3800 μ A, respectively.

Abstract: Objective: Intraventricular meningiomas (IVMs) are rare type of meningiomas. Majority of IVMs are located in lateral ventricles. Study Design: Case Series. Setting: Civil Hospital Karachi. Period: January 2013 to January 2018. Material & Methods: 15 patients were assessed with histologically verified IVMs, clinical features, radiological findings, surgical approaches, outcome and literature review. Results: The most common presentations included raised intracranial pressure (66.7%), visual deficits (40%), cognitive changes and dysphasia. All lesions arose in the lateral ventricles. Preoperative diagnosis was confirmed on MRI. Excision was performed using the posterior parietal and parieto-temporal approach for lateral ventricle tumors. Total excision was done in 13 out of 15 patients and two patients with residual tumor underwent stereotactic radiosurgery. Biopsy report showed WHO grade-I lesion in all cases. Postoperative complications included CSF leakage, transient hemiparesis and dysphasia. Glasgow Outcome Score of 5 was found in majority of cases (87%) on follow-up. Conclusion: These results depict that IVMs can be excised completely with minimum postoperative morbidity. However, resection requires planning to avoid eloquent cortical damage.

Abstract: Large power transformers are the most important equipment for the power grid. Their reliability not only affects the availability of electricity in the supply area, but also affects the economic functioning of an energy supplier. The main objective of this work of the development of the transformer testing simulation model on the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. The designing aspect shall comprise the generator-based and grid-based testing of the transformer and associated results on the same in the SIMULINK. And the methodology shall study the impacts on the grid-connected devices due to testing of the transformers in the grid-based method. The study concluded that there is effectively no effect on the parameter evaluation of OC and SC tests by either source. However, the practical conditions would require grid-based testing that allows a greater range of transformers of various ratings to be tested with high current capability. The impact of fault on the grid can be easily evaluated through location of fault, duration of fault, and dip if occurred. The testing should follow proper timing to avoid such disturbances on the grid. This leads to the rescheduling of the other approved outages or Short Circuit tests.

The primary objective is to demonstrate the potential advantages of 3D printing like reduction in part assembly, elimination expensive EBW for joining, CNC machining and also EDM processes without any compromise in functional performance of the component. The re-design of fuel injector was carried out by adopting a novel design concept by modifying the features of internal chamber, thereby completely avoiding the necessity for support structures in 3D printing. Different design configurations were developed with flow optimisation and topology optimisation for weight reduction, for 3D printing of the component. Initially, a proof of concept model was successfully built in IN718 alloy powder material using PBF-based 3D printing facility at AERDC, HAL. The 3D-printed fuel injector in as-deposited condition was evaluated using X-ray 3D tomography which has revealed well-formed internal features and uniform material density without any macro pores or cracks. As a result, an efficient mental load characterization approach using electroencephalogram (EEG) signal and Bayesian optimized K-Nearest Neighbor (BO-KNN) has been proposed in this work. The study has been conducted on a recorded EEG dataset of 30 healthy subjects who were exposed to an arithmetic questioner. To obtain artifacts free EEG signal, the Savitzky–Golay filtering approach has been utilized. Further, the decomposition of the extracted EEG signal has been carried out using stationary wavelength transform. In this work, the entropy based feature extraction has been performed followed by F-score based feature selection. Top 40 features having the highest precedence have been used for classification using BO-KNN. The rigorous experimental analysis has been performed to analyze the effectiveness of the proposed method over other state-of-the-art methods and it shows that the classification accuracy is substantially improved.

Abstract: Ultrasound is the most widely used biomedical imaging modality for the purpose of diagnosis. It often comes with speckle that results in reduced quality of images by hiding fine details like edges and boundaries, as well as texture information. In this present study, a novel wavelet thresholding technique for despeckling of ultrasound images is proposed. For analysing performance of the method, it is first tested on synthetic (ground truth) images. Speckle noise with distinct noise levels (0.01–0.04) has been added to the synthetic images in order to examine its efficiency at different noise levels. The proposed technique is applied to various orthogonal and biorthogonal wavelet filters. It has been observed that Daubechies 1 gives the best results out of all wavelet filters. The proposed method is further applied on ultrasound images. Performance of the proposed technique has been validated by comparing it with some state-of-the-art techniques. The results have also been validated visually by the expert. Results reveal that the proposed technique outperforms other state-of-the-art techniques in terms of edge preservation and similarities in structures. Thus, the technique is effective in reducing speckle noise in addition to preserving texture information that can be used for further processing.

Abstract: Objective: The purpose of our study was to assess the role of Multidetector Computerized tomography in the evaluation of maxillofacial fractures and to describe the frequency and types of fractures that underwent CT scans. Subjects And Methods: The study included 50 patients suspected of facial trauma referred from the emergency unit from PESIMSR ,Kuppam. All patients were subjected to non contrast MDCT in axial cuts and images are transferred to workstation then coronal and sagittal reconstruction obtained. Results: There were 37 male and 13 female patients. The maximum number of patients fall into 21-40 years followed by 41 to 60 years .50 patients had total 170 fractures. It was found that the maxillary sinus is the most common to be fractured (found in 24 cases) followed by nasal bone (18) , zygomatic arch (17), mandible (13) ,greater wing of sphenoid (9), sphenoid sinus (8), frontal sinus (7) ,pterygoid plates (7), bony nasal septum (6) ,ethmoid sinus (3).Among complex facial fractures orbital fractures are the most frequent (found in 47 cases), followed by zygomatico-maxillary junction fractures (4) ,Tripod fractures( 4) , and Naso-orbito-ethmoid region fractures (3). Conclusion: Maxillofacial trauma is one of the most common emergency requiring accurate and early diagnosis. MDCT is useful diagnostic tool for the identication and classication of maxillofacial region fractures and aiding in surgical planning.

Abstract: Background: In anesthesia propofol induction is administered at a dose of 2mg/kg as a single bolus and when given at this dose the commonest problem faced by the anesthetist is the sudden drop in the blood pressure, as the hypotensive effect of propofol is proportional to the dose and rate of administration. Aim: To study the effect of auto co-induction (priming principle) in the requirement of induction dose of propofol and the resulting hemodynamic parameters. Materials and Methods: A prospective randomized double blinded study was conducted for a period of one year in the department of anesthesia at a government medical college hospital in TamilNadu. A total of 60 patients were selected for our study and were randomly allocated into two groups of 30 each. Group A is the study group (priming) and group B is the control group (non-priming group). In the priming group, three minutes after premedication the co induction agent was administered (25% of the calculated dose of propofol) and two minutes later the patient received propofol at a rate of 30mg/10 sec until loss of vocalization was achieved. The hemodynamic parameters along with the total dose requirement of propofol and BIS values were monitored at regular intervals after induction. Results: The mean total dose of propofol required among the priming group patients was 78.2 mg compared to the total dose requirement in the non-priming group which was 92.5 mg and the mean difference was found to be statistically significant. A statistically significant fall in the heart rate and blood pressure was observed at 1 min and 3 mins after induction in non priming group compared to priming group. Conclusion: By applying priming principle the induction dose of propofol was reduced by 14.25% with a good hemodynamic stability. Keywords: Priming principle, Propofol, Anesthesia, Induction dose.

Abstract: Single crystals of sodium chloride (NaCl) of dimension 1 × 1 cm2 have been successfully grown from various solution growth methods like slow evaporation, fast evaporation, and slow cooling techniques. The crystalline qualities of the samples grown from the above methods were assessed using X-ray rocking curve and 2θ scan measurements. The grown crystals were also characterized for its optical transmission in IR region. Infact the crystal possesses ~ 76% optical transparency in the IR regime and it approaches the transparency value of the commercially available crystal. The cost estimation of laboratory grown crystal and as well as the standard NaCl optical window wafer (Commercial sample) has been compared, so as to ensure the feasibility of growing NaCl wafers at an affordable price. Abstract: Perovskite structured LaTixFe1-xO3 (x = 0, 0.05, 0.15, 0.25) lanthanum ferrites were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction. The structural Rietveld refinement and Raman analysis were conducted and confirmed that single-phase orthorhombic phase with Pbnm symmetry formed. The positions of the ions and their bonds of these ferrites were investigated. The spherical shaped morphology of these ferrites was examined. The quantitative chemical composition and distribution of these ferrites were confirmed. The excitonic absorption edge was observed at 590 nm; ascribed to the electronic transition from O2p→Fe3d and optical band gap values increased from 1.85– 2.02 eV as Ti concentration increased. The dielectric and magnetic behavior of these ferrites was studied. It is suggested that synthesized LaTixFe1xO3 powders with different properties could be tailored for different requirements.

Siddha’s traditional medicine system can be used as preventive care to boost the immune system. Materials and Methods: The immense treasure of knowledge found in Siddha medicine can help mortality. Kabasura Kudineer (KSK) is one of the Siddha poly herbal formulation used as an immune-boosting agent against several diseases. Results: In the present study the KSK has been investigated for its effects of immunomodulatory and thrombolytic potential. The KSK at the concentrations of 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 μg/ml showed % immune-stimulations of 12.40 %, 20.81, 33.53, and 43.20 and for NBT showed 19.00, 25.50, 64.00, 71.00 % respectively. Moreover, similarly, the thrombolytic activity showed 50, and 100 μg/ml concentration showed 43.83 %, 71.83 % clot lysis, respectively, and the control value for the Streptokinase showed 83.78 %. Conclusion: Hence, it can be confirmed that KSK has immunomodulatory and thrombolytic properties in vitro models. Immunomodulatory and anti-thrombolytic are the steps to create a stable, safe, and efficient COVID-19 cure.

The BLGNR-TFET is designed in QuantumATK, depending on 2-D Poisson’s equation and non-equilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) formalism. Findings The performance of the proposed BLGNR-TFET is investigated in terms of current and voltage (I-V) characteristics and transconductance. Moreover, the proposed device performance is compared with the monolayer GNR-TFET (MLGNR-TFET). From the simulation results, it is investigated that the BLGNR-TFET shows high current and gain over the MLGNR-TFET. The progress of these issues may lead to economic losses, under-utilization of transport resources, and commuters’ queuing delay. In this paper, we propose a novel dynamic public transport vehicle allocation scheme based on Emergent Intelligence (EI) technique in a metropolitan area. In addition, we demonstrate the EI technique’s capability for solving public transport system problems. To do so, the EI technique maintains historical information, commuters’ arrival rates, resource avaialability, deficit resources and surplus resources of neighbor depots’s agent. In the proposed scheme, the EI technique is utilized to collect, analyze, share and optimally allocate transport resources effectively. The proposed EI technique provides reliable services (allocation and scheduling) by coordinating with a reliable neighborhood depot’s agent. We have build mathematical models for estimation of resources, utilization and reliability parameters. The proposed scheme is exhaustively tested by simulation and analyzed with varying commuters’ arrival rates, number of vehicles, number of requests, and different values of reliability parameters. The proposed scheme’s results (analytical, simulation and comparison) show the reliabiltiy, accuracy and real time deployability.

Methods And Material: A retrospective study was done in the department of Radiodiagnosis of a rural tertiary care hospital, India. All patients who were referred for hysterosalpingography study as part of infertility workup between January 2018 and December 2020 to the department of Radiodiagnosis were included in the study. Results: A total of 173 patients are included in the study. Out of these 173 patients, 3 women had repeat Hysterosalpingography studies. 43.2% of these studies are abnormal. 56.8% cases showed normal ndings. Tubal abnormalities were the most common accounting for 34.6% of the total studies. Uterine abnormalities were seen in 6.8% of the total studies. Both fallopian tube and uterine abnormalities were seen in 1.7%. Post-operative follow-up imaging was available for 3 patients. All three patients had a bilateral tubal block in the rst study and showed tubal patency in post recanalization HSG study. Conclusion: Hysterosalpingography is a lesser invasive procedure, cost-effective, and does not require anesthesia compared to laparoscopy. This is a huge advantage, especially in a rural setup. It can be considered as a screening investigation along with an ultrasound examination. Tubal blockage is the most common abnormality accounting for nearly one-third of the causes of infertility in our study. Tuberculosis should always be ruled out as a cause of tubal blockage in India where it is more prevalent.

Abstract: The objective of the study was to examine the impact of HRIS usage and knowledge sharing behaviour on the innovation capability of banking sector employees. The study also investigated the moderating role of organizational citizenship behaviour in the effect of HRIS usage and knowledge sharing behaviour on innovation capability. Resource-Based View and Organizational Citizenship Behaviour theories are applied in this research. This study is based on a quantitative approach for data collection and the data was examined using a correlational research design. The target population of this study is based on the employees of private banks of Karachi, Pakistan. The sample size was 187 responses which were analyzed using linear regression. The results showed that human resource information system usage has a positive and significant effect on employee’s innovation capacity. Similarly, knowledge-sharing behaviour was also found positive but had an insignificant effect on employee’s innovation capacity. The results also demonstrated that organizational citizenship behaviour has a positive and significant moderated effect on the relationship of human resource information systems and employee’s innovation capacity and in the relationship between knowledge-sharing behaviour and employee’s innovation capacity. This study provides a model to management leaders and practitioners who can look into employees’ creative capabilities and leverage them. The study suggests that certain actions need to be implemented by top management to foster a positive attitude towards employees' innovation capacity through proper HRIS usage and knowledge-sharing behaviour over the span of time. Lastly, implications and avenues for future research are also suggested at the end of the paper.

Abstract: In this paper, we have proposed an etched silica Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs) based interrogation technique using an optical spectrum analyser (OSA). The efficiency of the proposed system has extensively been investigated for measuring the temperature and strain simultaneously with higher sensitivity and accuracy covering a larger measurement range. A Single mode-Multi mode-Single mode fiber (SMS) which acts as a bandpass filter is employed in the circuitry for an efficient and fast interrogation technique. We recorded a remarkable enhancement in sensitivity of 20.30 pm/°C and 2.89 pm/μɛ over the temperature and strain range of 25–225 °C and 50–2050 μɛ, respectively. These data were recorded with the strain resolution of ±10 μɛ whereas the resolution for the temperature is ±0.50 °C. The experimental results show the capability of the sensor for measuring the strain and temperature simultaneously with higher intrinsic sensitivity and resolution. The performance of the proposed sensor has been compared with various reported techniques.

Abstract: Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a non-invasive technique that is used to estimate the electrical properties of a medical or non-medical object through the boundary data of the object. It used to achieve functional imaging of different objects by measuring electrical conductivity and impedance parameters. In this paper, a novel image reconstruction algorithm is presented, which is based on graphical user interface (GUI) developed on MATLAB software platform. EIT imaging algorithm consists of a forward problem and an inverse problem. The forward problem is formulated with the conductance matrix, and a non-iterative inverse method is used to estimate the conductivity distribution. Image display and data analysis are implemented and controlled directly in the GUI. The numerical simulations and phantom experiments have been carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm and other previous research data through quantitative parameters. The obtained result shows satisfactory and comparable results to other EIT imaging algorithm.

Abstract: A domestic purpose micro wind turbine realised using bamboo blade is tested for the power generation at an interval of two years and compared the performance. A CFD analysis of turbine with five blade system is carried out for an average wind velocity of 2.5m/s and structural integrity of the bamboo blade unit based on the pressure distribution is assessed. For the input wind velocity, a stream lined out flow of 5.9 m/s is found when wind turbine rotates at 300 rpm and corresponding pressure distribution is found to be maximum at the expected location of blade tip as 129 Pa. The static analysis shows a good margin. For 2.5 m/s, the wind turbine generates an average value of 3.8V with 0.25A (based on 15ï—/10W load). The wind turbine has produced nearly the same power even after a period of two years.

Abstract: Canine babesiosis is a tick-borne disease caused by apicomplexan intraerythrocytic hemoprotozoan parasites. It is caused by the small (Babesia gibsoni, B. conradae, and B. vulpes) and large (B. vogeli, B. canis, and B. rossi) Babesia groups. As per the recent reports, the most prominent Babesia species encountered in the Kerala state are the small Babesia, B. gibsoni followed by the large Babesia, B. vogeli. The latter is regarded as mildly pathogenic, causing subclinical or mild disease; however severe complications like systemic inflammatory response syndrome, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, etc. have also been reported. The information on the status of hematological alterations in naturally infected dogs with large Babesia is lacking, particularly from the state of Kerala. The present study involves a retrospective study of clinical cases of large Babesia infection in dogs. The complete haematological profile from well-documented laboratory records of 4039 dogs suspected for babesiosis presented to District Veterinary Centre, Kannur during the period from December 2018 to October 2020 was analyzed for the study. Natural infections were recorded in 35 (0.87%) dogs based on the presence of intraerythrocytic piroplasm of large Babesia spp. by light microscopic examination of Giemsa-stained blood smears. The most consistent features observed were mild to moderate regenerative, normocytic and normochromic anemia, lowered to normal neutrophil count and thrombocytopenia. In comparison to hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia was the most frequent clinicopathological finding in the study with an increased presence of large activated platelets or macro-platelets.

Abstract: The present paper is aimed at investigating application of planar Metamaterial (MM) structures for effective EMI Shielding and Stealth applications in X-Band. Various MM structures using FR4 substrate and Copper conductors were conceived and designed followed by simulations carried out using CST MWS Suite software. As a first step, the de- signs were aimed at achieving extremely high absorption for normal incidence, polarisation independence and maintaining high absorption in wide angle performance while keeping the requirement of light weight, flexibility and environmental ruggedness in mind for deployability on platforms to achieve effective stealth against Radars and for other EMI shielding applications. Circularly symmetric, single layer Metamaterial Microwave Absorber (MMA) design over thin FR4 substrate in spokes and wheel structural arrangement provided these desired features. The thin FR4 substrate of 0.6 mm provides the light weight and flexibility while absorbing the EM waves. Rotational symmetry of the spoke and cut-wheel design gives it polarisation independence and 4 ring planar array concept with rings scaled to different sizes in the same plane in the unit cell provided the increase in bandwidth. Reduction in received signal level of the echo is depicted by the S-Parameter at the input port. Getting values of this S-Parameter less than -60dB at resonant frequency for MMAs is highly encouraging and is not reported much in literature. Enhancement of nearly 3-8 times in operating bandwidth was achieved by changing size of rings in each quadrant in the co-planar array having four resonant rings in each unit cell.

According to WHO (2015) the overall prevalence of hypertension in India was 24.2% and 22% among the men and women respectively. Hypertension is called a silent killer, non-communicable chronic disease because it rarely exhibits symptoms before it damages vital organs like kidney, brain or heart. In Ayurveda there is not a single disease which resemble with hypertension, but physician should understand the disease through Dosha, Dushya, Samprapti and initiate the treatment. A lot of potent modern antihypertensive drugs are available but none of them are free from untoward side-effects. So, a clinical study was done using herbal formulation containing Sarpaghandha, Sankhpushpi, Arjuna, Jatamansi and Ashwagandha in the form of Ghanvati. A comparative study was done as this Ghanvati was given with and without Gokshur kwath. For clinical study 52 (Group A- 25 and Group B- 27) clinically diagnosed patients of essential hypertension who fulfil inclusion criteria were selected irrespective of their age, sex, religion, occupation etc. and simple random sampling technique was followed for grouping the patients into 2 groups. All the patients selected for the clinical trial were divided in two groups ‘A’ and ‘B’. Patients of Group A were given 250 mg of Ghanvati two times a day with water as Anupan and patients of Group B were given 250 mg of Ghanvati with water as Anupan and Gokshur kwath both two times a day. Abstract: Endoscopy is the gold standard for the detection and staging of varices. Baveno, expanded Baveno, and Rete Sicilia Selezione Terapia–hepatitis C virus (RESIST-HCV) criteria predict varices non-invasively in patients with cirrhosis. We assessed the performance of these criteria for predicting varices needing treatment (VNT). Consecutive patients with compensated cirrhosis due to viral etiologies evaluated between January 2014 and May 2017 were included in this retrospective analysis of a prospectively maintained database. VNTs were defined as either large varies or small varices with red color signs on endoscopy. Performance characteristics to predict VNTs were estimated for the three criteria and spared endoscopy rate (SER) and missed VNT rates were determined. Two hundred and ninety-five treatment-naive cirrhosis patients, etiology hepatitis B (n = 154) or hepatitis C (n = 141), mean age 43.1 ± 13.2 years, 127 (43.1%) males were included. The median liver stiffness measurement (LSM) and platelet counts were 19.7 (interquartile range [IQR]: 14.8–28.8) kPa and 119 (IQR: 80–160) × 103/mm3, respectively. The SER and missed VNT rates were as follows—for Baveno criteria: 18.3% and 6.2%; expanded Baveno: 35.3% and 29.2%; and for RESIST-HCV criteria: 37.3% and 22.9%. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were 93.7%, 21.9%, 18.9%, and 94.7% for Baveno criteria; 70.8%, 42.3%, 19.3%, and 88.1% for expanded Baveno; and 77.1%, 44.5%, 21.3%, and 90.9% for RESIST-HCV criteria, respectively. Baveno criteria are useful to avoid screening endoscopies in patients with cirrhosis of viral etiologies. In contrast, although expanded Baveno criteria and RESIST-HCV criteria spare more endoscopies, a high missed VNT rate limits their applicability.

Abstract: Detecting cognitive performance during mental arithmetic allows researchers to observe and identify the brain’s response to stimuli. Existing non-invasive methods for automated cognitive performance detection need improvements in terms of accuracy. In this work, a novel approach for cognitive performance has been proposed which uses short-duration electroencephalography (EEG) signal (4.094 s). Stationary wavelet transform (SWT) has been used to decompose the signal followed by extraction of entropy-based features and classification using selected attributes. To tackle the imbalanced data issue, adaptive synthetic sampling approach has been used. The proposed technique works in two modes: multi-lead approach (MLA), where EEG signal from multiple leads was used, and a novel lead-specific approach (LSA), where EEG signal from a single lead (F4) was used. A high accuracy of 94.00% in MLA and 93.70% in LSA reflects reliability of the proposed technique. The use of short-duration single-lead EEG signal makes this technique suitable for continuous monitoring system of cognitive performance during mental workload.

Material & Methods: The inclusion criteria were that all the patients have to be above the age of 18 years, presented to us with mild TBI cases and had observable intracranial hemorrhage on computer tomography (CT) scan. Patient demographics and the various types of interventions were recorded. Results: A total of n= 300 patients were included in the study, The average age was 50.5 +/- 20.6 years. There were n= 180 males and n= 120 females. We performed a total of n= 45 (15%) neurosurgical interventions, the most common intervention being craniotomies performed in n= 31 (68.66%) patients. Abstract: Background: Many patients with COVID-19 have been treated with plasma containing anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of convalescent plasma therapy in patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19. Methods: This randomised, controlled, open-label, platform trial (Randomised Evaluation of COVID-19 Therapy [RECOVERY]) is assessing several possible treatments in patients hospitalised with COVID-19 in the UK. The trial is underway at 177 NHS hospitals from across the UK. Eligible and consenting patients were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive either usual care alone (usual care group) or usual care plus high-titre convalescent plasma (convalescent plasma group). The primary outcome was 28-day mortality, analysed on an intention-to-treat basis. The trial is registered with ISRCTN, 50189673, and ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04381936. Findings: Between May 28, 2020, and Jan 15, 2021, 11558 (71%) of 16287 patients enrolled in RECOVERY were eligible to receive convalescent plasma and were assigned to either the convalescent plasma group or the usual care group. There was no significant difference in 28-day mortality between the two groups: 1399 (24%) of 5795 patients in the convalescent plasma group and 1408 (24%) of 5763 patients in the usual care group died within 28 days (rate ratio 1·00, 95% CI 0·93–1·07; p=0·95). The 28-day mortality rate ratio was similar in all prespecified subgroups of patients, including in those patients without detectable SARS-CoV-2 antibodies at randomisation. Allocation to convalescent plasma had no significant effect on the proportion of patients discharged from hospital within 28 days (3832 [66%] patients in the convalescent plasma group vs 3822 [66%] patients in the usual care group; rate ratio 0·99, 95% CI 0·94–1·03; p=0·57). Among those not on invasive mechanical ventilation at randomisation, there was no significant difference in the proportion of patients meeting the composite endpoint of progression to invasive mechanical ventilation or death (1568 [29%] of 5493 patients in the convalescent plasma group vs 1568 [29%] of 5448 patients in the usual care group; rate ratio 0·99, 95% CI 0·93–1·05; p=0·79). Interpretation: In patients hospitalised with COVID-19, high-titre convalescent plasma did not improve survival or other prespecified clinical outcomes. Abstract: Machine Translation is a subfield of Natural language Processing (NLP) which uses to translate source language to target language. In this paper an attempt has been made to make a Hindi Chhattisgarhi machine translation system which is based on statistical approach. In the state of Chhattisgarh there is a long awaited need for Hindi to Chhattisgarhi machine translation system for converting Hindi into Chhattisgarhi especially for non Chhattisgarhi speaking people. In order to develop Hindi Chhattisgarhi statistical machine translation system an open source software called Moses is used. Moses is a statistical machine translation system and used to automatically train the translation model for Hindi Chhattisgarhi language pair called as parallel corpus. A collection of structured text to study linguistic properties is called corpus. This machine translation system works on parallel corpus of 40,000 Hindi-Chhattisgarhi bilingual sentences. In order to overcome translation problem related to proper noun and unknown words, a transliteration system is also embedded in it. These sentences are extracted from various domains like stories, novels, text books and news papers etc. This system is tested on 1000 sentences to check the grammatical correctness of sentences and it was found that an accuracy of 75% is achieved.

Recently regulator published a draft regulation on sandbox concept, which permits carriers to innovate their offering to end user. This is led by fintech and insure tech companies and carriers have structured digital boards to take this revolution forward.Major findings of this paper are usage of block chain technology and data security in insurance industry. With companies constituting digital boards, pandemic has only acted like a tailwind for the digital push wherein entire sales process is migrated to digital way of selling. This move has a multiplier effect on customer reach, cost efficiency and service precision. Customers who are keen to have the best in terms of technological innovation will be delighted with the advancement in digital transformation.Also with big data and analytics, we are coming back to risk based pricing, which is proportionate to the risk borne by the customer. This is still evolving in life insurance as the deployment of wearables is at a nascent stage.Newer technologies like AI and machine learning are facilitating companies register higher growth both on cross and upsell opportunities. Abstract: The goal of this paper is to control a fully active hybrid energy storage System (HESS) with a battery and super capacitor (SC) by introducing an uniform higher order sliding mode control. The system parameters to be tracked are the battery and SC current. To track the reference values of battery and SC currents, an uniform continuous higher order sliding mode controller (UCHOSMC) is applied which is a combination of two controllers one is an uniform super twisting control for disturbance rejection and other is uniform time convergence for a disturbance free system. Current references to be trackedare generated by a rule-based energy management system, the stability of the system is validated using Lyapunov stability analysis. The simulation results show the robustness of the controller with an effective tracking of the reference values under different load conditions.

Abstract: Introduction There is limited literature available regarding the prevalence and durability of immune response to infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)/coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in cancer patients. Objective The aim of this study was to analyze the seroconversion rate in cancer patients recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection. Materials and Methods We retrospectively analyzed antibody levels and seroconversion rates in serum samples from 135 cancer patients who had recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection. Chemiluminescent immunoassay using Roche Cobas e801 analyzer (Roche Diagnostics, Rotkreuz, Switzerland) was performed to identify Pan Ig antibody against nucleocapsid antigen. Reports of first, third, and sixth month were analyzed. Seroconversion was also compared with health-care workers (HCW) of our institute who had recovered from COVID-19 infection. Results Seroconversion rate in cancer patients was 81.2% at 1 month, 95% at 3 months, and 94.6% at 6 months post reverse transcriptase–polymerase chain reaction positivity. There was no difference in seroconversion rate among different age groups, gender, comorbidities, severity of COVID-19 symptoms, cancer disease status, and treatment with chemotherapy. Seroconversion rate in cancer patients is comparable to HCW (90.4 vs. 96%, p = 0.82) and is durable. Conclusion Humoral response to COVID-19 infection in cancer patients is comparable to general population and sustained. Such responses suggest that cancer patients are likely to benefit from COVID-19 vaccination.
