Purpose To identify 100 articles with significant impact on the clinical care of patients with glaucoma. Design Cross-sectional study. Participants A total of 108 members of the American Glaucoma Society (AGS) in the original survey and 63 in the follow-up survey. Methods The 100 most frequently cited English-language original articles relevant to glaucoma were identified via a Scopus search. The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Preferred Practice Pattern Glaucoma Panel selected an additional 100 articles including newer and “classic” papers. An anonymous survey including the list of 200 articles was distributed to the AGS membership. Survey participants were asked to rate the impact of each article on the clinical care of glaucoma patients using a 4-point Likert scale. Survey respondents were able to provide “write-in” suggestions for the AGS 100. A subsequent anonymous follow-up survey was distributed asking participants to use the same Likert scale to rate 31 “write-in” articles suggested in the original survey. The AGS 100 was created by ranking the top 100 articles based on mean Likert scores from the original and follow-up surveys. Main Outcome Measures Original English-language articles that have influenced the clinical care of patients with glaucoma. Results The mean ± standard deviation Likert score of articles included in the AGS 100 was 2.9 ± 0.3 (range, 2.47–3.69). The median citation number was 345 (range, 11–2426). Publication year ranged from 1965 to 2020. Articles were published in 14 journals, the most common of which were Ophthalmology (42%), American Journal of Ophthalmology (21%), and Archives of Ophthalmology (20%). Forty-eight articles were derived from randomized clinical trials. Conclusions The AGS 100 is a collection of articles judged to have significant clinical impact on glaucoma care. The list will serve as an online educational resource for ophthalmologists in training and in practice.

The covid-19 pandemic has made the whole world face specific challenges that required urgent decisions on how to organize the work of social institutions, including education, in this new reality. Since March 2020, national education systems all over the world have been adapting their activities to the quarantine measures and have been switching to distance learning. In varying degrees, these changes affected all levels of education - from preschool to higher and postgraduate education. However, the tasks to be solved differed by the level of education. The article presents the results of the comparative analysis of the activities of the Russian higher-educational institutions based on their students estimates - during the forced distance learning in the spring of 2020 and during the planned switch to such a format in the fall of 2020. The article is based on the surveys of the Russian students conducted in June 2020 (N=31423) and February 2021 (N=32358). The study was conducted to test the hypotheses that negative estimates of distance learning and rejection of such a format by many students in the spring of 2020 changed in the fall of 2020. The results of two surveys show that Russian universities have passed through the stage of digital transformation which affected both the resources for organizing the educational process and the competences of the teaching staff. The experience of work in the difficult and unpredictable conditions of the pandemic changed the public opinion from the negative perception of distance learning to understanding and accepting its positive features for the education system and its actors. The introduction of digital technologies is an objective and inevitable process in the development of the educational sphere and the country.

Context Insufficient communication from the medical team following a child's death may compound parental grief. Pediatric residents care for children who die, yet the landscape of condolence expression education within residency programs has not been studied. Objectives The objective of this study was to evaluate pediatric residents’ levels of experience and comfort with condolence expression and to assess their needs and desires for training in condolence expression. Methods A cross-sectional, mixed-methods survey was developed by palliative care clinicians in collaboration with bereaved parents. In 2020, following pilot testing, an electronic survey measuring resident experience with, comfort with, and training on condolence expression was distributed to 202 third-year pediatric residents across 17 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited programs representing varying sizes and geographic regions. Results Ten percent of pediatric residents surveyed reported having training on condolence expression. Almost all residents considered condolence expression to be beneficial for bereaved families and most for clinicians, too, yet very very few had formally expressed condolences in their roles as physicians: 83.1% had never written a condolence letter; 85% had never made a condolence phone call; and 90.5% had never attended a memorial event. Commonly reported barriers to condolence expression included lack of experience and training, as well as concern about upsetting families. Conclusions Pediatric residents lack comfort with and training in condolence expression and desire education to address these gaps. These findings should inform development and investigation of educational resources and training opportunities for residents to learn and practice compassionate provision of condolences to grieving families.

Objective The development of newer alfalfa cultivars with improved adaptation to local growing conditions and dual-purpose applications (hay and grazing) has increased alfalfa incorporation into forage systems in the southern United States. The objective of this survey was to identify main challenges associated with alfalfa adoption by forage–livestock producers in the southern region. Materials and Methods The web-based survey consisted of 24 questions and was distributed from May through December 2020 across 12 states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Texas). Results and Discussion There was a total of 211 respondents. Most participants had already considered planting alfalfa and sought out information through extension publications (84 and 66%, respectively). Thus, most participants were seeking alfalfa as an option to increase forage quality (48%) and profits (15%). The major considerations associated with low adoption of alfalfa plantings were cost of stand establishment (21%), longevity of stand life usefulness (22%), and “others” (22%). In the latter category, most participants mentioned weather-related conditions that represent a challenge to produce high-quality hay, along with proper management practices. Although environmental benefits of alfalfa incorporation are diverse, including decreasing reliance on nitrogen (N) chemical fertilizer input, only 10% of participants were interested in including alfalfa to reduce N input. Implications and Applications Educational resources and trainings are needed to help farmers make decisions related to stand management and economics and understand environmental benefits that inclusion of alfalfa can provide to forage–livestock systems in the southern United States.

ObjectiveTo investigate the availability of images representing Black, Indigenous, and people of color in rheumatology educational resources.MethodsColor images were collected from 5 major educational resources and cataloged by the resources they came from, underlying rheumatic conditions, and skin type. Fitzpatrick skin type (FST) was used to categorize images into “light,” “dark,” or “indeterminate.” The images were initially scored by a fellow in the Division of Rheumatology and subsequently validated by a faculty member from the Department of Dermatology.ResultsOf the thousands of images reviewed, 1604 images met study criteria. FST validation from the Department of Dermatology resulted in the recoding of 111 images. The final scoring revealed 86% of the images to be light skin, 9% of images to be dark skin, and 5% of images to be indeterminate.ConclusionThe paucity of dark skin images in rheumatology resources is incongruent with current diversity estimates in the US. Significant efforts should be made to incorporate images of Black, Indigenous, and people of color into educational resources.

Background: Despite availability of educational resources and documentation methods for advance care planning (ACP), few video tools exist. Animation relevant to Veteran experiences may enhance clinical conversations by illustrating relatable scenarios. Objective: To explore clinician perspectives on four novel video vignettes created by the study group. Design: Online survey with attention to perceived appropriateness, usefulness, and uptake intention. Settings/Subjects: Virtual video presentation with feedback poll for Veterans Affairs clinicians. Measurements: Descriptive and univariant analyses of responses to questions extracted from the validated Video Engagement Scale and prior ACP assessments. Results: Thirty respondents rated video appropriateness and usefulness at a mean 4.8 (range 4-5). Videos were relatable, relevant, and motivating with 90% respondents reporting ready intention to use in clinical practice. Conclusions: Veteran-specific animated video vignettes are received affirmatively by Veteran Affairs clinicians. These videos have potential to foster early engaged discussions about ACP.

In an educational context, experimenting with a real cloud computing platform is very important to let students understand the core concepts, methodologies and technologies of cloud computing. However, API heterogeneity of cloud providers complicates the experimentation by forcing students to focus on the use of different APIs, and by hindering the jointly use of different platforms. In this paper, we present EasyCloud, a toolkit enabling the easy and effective use of different cloud platforms. In particular, we describe its features, architecture, scalability, and use in our cloud computing courses, as well as the pedagogical insights we learnt over the years.

The article presents the results of experimental testing of pedagogical conditions for forming information competence of future specialists in navigation and ship handling. While teaching the disciplines «Ocean Routes of the World», «Navigation Bridge Resource Management», «Actions in Accidents, Search and Rescue at Sea», «Navigation Information Systems» it is suggested to use interactive methods to form the cadets’ ability to generalize, analyze and use information during professional interaction, develop the ability to spread information about vessel handling, workload management, to share their experience in navigation with other people, make requests, give suggestions on solving pressing problems. To develop cadets' skills in information support of navigation information systems, it is proposed to use electronic educational resources, including educational, information, scientific, reference materials presented in electronic form or stored in computer networks. The importance of modern technologies, including information resources of the Internet, such as blogs, web quests, blog quests, as well as simulation technologies with augmented and virtual reality has been highlighted.

In this study, we examine the impact of monetary incentives on user engagement and learning outcomes in massive open online courses (MOOCs). While MOOCs offer high-quality interactive educational resources to users worldwide, maintaining user engagement and enthusiasm on these platforms is a challenge. To address this issue, we conduct a field experiment in which users are given monetary incentives to engage in online learning. Our results show that those given a monetary incentive are more likely to submit homework and to gain higher homework grades. We further find that the effect persists even after we remove the monetary incentives and that it spills over into learning behavior in other courses in the same and subsequent semester. Overall, our findings suggest that monetary incentives counteract engagement decay and may help online users form persistent learning habits.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to analyze posts shared on Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit referencing scoliosis surgery to evaluate content, tone, and perspective. METHODS Public posts from Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit were parsed in 2020-2021 and selected based on inclusion of the words 'scoliosis surgery' or '#scoliosissurgery. 100 Reddit posts, 5022 Instagram posts, and 1414 tweets were included in analysis. The Natural Language Toolkit (NLTK) python library was utilized to perform computational text analysis to determine content and sentiment analysis to estimate the tone of posts across each platform. RESULTS 46.4% of Tweets were positive in tone, 39.4% were negative, and 13.8% were neutral. Positive content focused on patients, friends, or hospitals sharing good outcomes after a patient's surgery. Negative content focused on long wait times to receive scoliosis surgery. 64.7% of Instagram posts were positive in tone, 16.3% were negative, and 19.0% were neutral. Positive content centered around post-operative progress reports and educational resources, while negative content focused on long-term back pain. 37% of Reddit posts were positive in tone, 38% were negative, and 25% were neutral. Positive posts were about personal post-operative progress reports, while negative posts were about fears prior to scoliosis surgery and questions about risks of the procedure. CONCLUSION This study highlights scoliosis surgery content in social media formats and stratifies how this content is portrayed based on the platform it is on. Surgeons can use this knowledge to better educate and connect with their own patients, thus harnessing the power and reach of social media. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE IV.

This research presents an analysis of the value given to the game as an educational resource on social networks. The purpose of this study is to analyze the discourse on Twitter of the different educational agents (teachers and other educational professionals) to know the value given to the use of this tool and how the social network is an educational form of communication and interaction. From a qualitative methodology, a descriptive-interpretative study of the information on didactic/play strategies present in social networks is approached. The analysis is performed by the Nvivo12 software through matrices and content analysis. The results show that the game is mentioned within the speech on Twitter where it is alluded to its importance, value, application, etc. From an educational perspective, working in the classroom with the use of social networks provides some significant advantages; these networks offer interactive and effective teaching and learning tools. In addition, the integration of tools and applications. It is concluded that Twitter is an educational and formative way and where the value attributed to the game as a didactic resource is significant.

The Maker Movement is a community of hobbyists, tinkerers, engineers, hackers, and artists who creatively design and build projects for both playful and useful ends. There is growing interest among educators in bringing making into K-12 education to enhance opportunities to engage in the practices of engineering, specifically, and STEM more broadly. This article describes three elements of the Maker Movement, and associated research needs, necessary to understand its promise for education: 1) digital tools, including rapid prototyping tools and low-cost microcontroller platforms, that characterize many making projects; 2) community infrastructure, including online resources and in-person spaces and events; and 3) the maker mindset, aesthetic principles, and habits of mind that are commonplace within the community. It further outlines how the practices of making align with research on beneficial learning environments.

Photodocumentation is an important tool utilized across medical specialties and plays an especially pivotal role in dermatology given the visual nature of the field. Although it has been well-established that dermatologic diseases manifest differently in dark skin compared to light skin, there is under-representation of images of dark skin in dermatology textbooks and other educational resources. It is essential for dermatologists to work toward increasing the availability of images of dermatologic disease in dark skin by improving their own ability to successfully photograph dark-skinned patients. In this article, we describe our nuanced approach to photographing skin of color in regards to the ideal background type, lighting, and camera settings.

In this article, the authors argue that partnering with course faculty to develop and use open educational resources (OER) and open pedagogy to integrate information literacy (IL) into the curriculum. OER and open pedagogy can sustainably replace or compliment one-shot library sessions. As this case study indicates, creating an OER allowed a team of librarians and a professor to effectively scaffold the “Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education” (Framework) throughout a required large-enrollment undergraduate journalism course. Including openly licensed student tutorials in the OER created a more inclusive space for students to learn and become peer-educators. This case study outlines a process for using OER and an open pedagogy assignment to teach IL, and offers tips for how library workers can incorporate open educational practices (OEP) into their instructional sessions and collaborations.

The paper analyses the information openness of universities in accordance with the requirements provided by the current legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of education. It also considers the organization of educational activities carried out by universities and providing access to information and educational resources for students and scientific-pedagogical staff. The stages of digital learning units’ development within the framework of university courses are considered. Functional strategies for planning and conducting remote and in-class learning are investigated by the example of teaching foreign languages at a non-linguistic/technical university.

The introduction of open educational resources (OER) provides new opportunities for learners worldwide to access high-quality educational materials at the lowest cost. As a developing country, Vietnam is one of the countries that can most benefit from the OER movement. However, the concept of OER in Vietnam remains little known to the public, with few institutional OER repositories (IOER) developed. This study contends that IOER development in Vietnam is complicated and constrained by many contextual difficulties; it was designed to explore the challenges and opportunities. After a literature review, 20 semi-structured interviews were conducted with relevant stakeholders. Building on the findings from the literature, this study found that IOER development in Vietnam is constrained by five categories of challenges: (a) technological and infrastructure matters, (b) economic constraints, (c) sociocultural characteristics, (d) pedagogical concerns, and (e) legal limitations. Many of these challenges are not identified in the literature and provide insights into potential implications and solutions for future IOER in Vietnam and other countries.

Nowadays, information and communication technologies (ICTs) and virtual training have increased the use of educational resources. This growth use has highlighted educational resource reuse and availability problems. Resource descriptions adapted to particular needs and the lack of metadata enrichment taking advantage of the benefits provided by the Semantic Web are some examples of these problems. The purpose of this paper is to expose an enhanced and interoperable set of metadata elements for describing OER (Open Educational Resources), which takes full advantage of the Openness and data enrichment. In this research, requirements such as data quality dimensions, Linked Data, and mapping into RDF (Resource Description Framework) Graph, have been taken into account to provide well‐described, available, reusable and enriched OER, in addition, to display them as Linked Data. These features contribute to the educational field strengthen the processes of Opening, Availability, Reuse, and Linking OER. In a nutshell, these features are necessary to facilitate innovative educational settings. Finally, this improved OER description can be extrapolated to other countries, serving as a potential Opening and reuse guidelines to publish OER on both applications and LOD (Linked Open Data) Cloud.

Trainees around the world have experienced significant challenges to their personal life and training as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many have felt the psychological and physical impacts of working during the COVID-19 pandemic. Training-specific challenges have included redeployment, cancellation of operative lists, cancellation of educational opportunities and loss of exposure to training as a result of shielding. This article describes the impact of infection with COVID-19 on psychological wellbeing and training. It discusses general measures the trainee can take to mitigate the challenges this has caused, categorised into personal, planning and educational resources, and measures focussed on certain challenges. Finally, the vital importance of support for trainees is described, including peer support, departmental resources and the growing array of online material.

Grenzenlos Deutsch ( GD) is an open educational resource (OER) that functions as a digital archive. Considerations of equity, social justice, and accessibility inform decision-making and workflow at all stages of fashioning the GD curriculum as a no-cost alternative to traditional beginning German textbooks. In this essay, six members of the GD team reflect on digital curation, considering how the team’s collective identities, values, and instructional goals intersect with the processes of creating and curating the curriculum, particularly the production and preservation of audiovisual material such as images, interviews, and videos as learning objects. Although these learning objects constitute a public archive, they also mark events of personal and collaborative significance in the private and professional lives of the GD collective, whose members played varying roles in producing these instructional materials.

Background The novel coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has catalyzed the development of online educational resources. Webinars provide opportunities for convenient distance-learning and provision of expert lectures, while reducing the financial and practical costs of attending conferences. This cross-sectional survey aims to collect subjective opinion on the usefulness of webinars as an educational platform compared to face-to-face interactions, and whether surgeons and surgeons-in-training want webinars to remain a permanent platform for training and development in the future. Methods A free-to-attend online series of international expert lectures on a range of plastic surgery topics was delivered. Attendees were invited to anonymously complete a survey on attitudes towards webinars as an educational platform over a 2-week period. Results A total of 883 complete responses were collected. Overall webinar attendance increased following the pandemic, with 97.4% of respondents reporting they view webinars for at least 1 h per week following implementation of COVID-19 restrictions. 90.4% respondents indicated that they intend to continue utilizing webinars even once COVID-19 restrictions are eased, and 77.8% stated they learn as much from online webinars as in-person lectures. However, irrespective of training grade, a significant proportion of respondents believe webinars should not replace face-to-face meetings. Conclusions This study provides evidence that, while face-to-face meetings remain a valued component of education in Plastic Surgery, webinars are a useful adjunct to conventional methods, and may feature more prominently in the educational landscape of the future. The article describes the electronic educational resource "Entertaining Informatics" for secondary schools, the use of which is aimed at implementing a system activity approach in the educational process to achieve students not only subject results, but also metasubject and personal ones.The resource can be used both by teachers in the educational process and by students for independent work. The use of the application in the classroom and outside the classroom allows to increase the efficiency of learning, create a productive atmosphere and interest of students in the studied material, helps to increase cognitive interest, the formation of universal educational actions of students, is aimed at personality oriented and individual learning.The application does not require special installation on a local computer; to work with the application, you only need a modern browser and Internet access. The student can work with the resource both at school and at home, both on a personal computer and on smartphone and tablet. You can complete assignments on the interactive whiteboard. Shifting from open educational resources (OER) to open educational practices (OEP) is the next stage in the OER movement, but there have been few attempts to understand how the next phase in this movement will be achieved. Addressing this question can uncover the potential benefits of OER besides cost reduction. The current study represents the Enactment Phase (design and development) of a larger design-based research study that sought to design an integrative OER intervention in a college course to promote OEP. The Enactment Phase resulted in developing the design principles that describe the integration of OER use and creation into a college course; the development of the components of the OER intervention prototype; and designing the OER intervention prototype in a college course at a mid-Atlantic research university. The significant results that emerged from this Enactment Phase reside in that OER should be integrated into a course using learner-centered pedagogical models with constructivist approaches to teaching, and it should be integrated as an integral part of the syllabus of the course. The main idea for integrating the 5Rs into the Advanced Instructional Design was threading across assignments to make a connection between knowledge and skills students have learned throughout the course.

The use of Open Educational Resources (OER) for training in public administration has yet to see a wide adoption globally, mostly due to challenges related to the discovery and reuse of high-quality OER for training purposes. These challenges, combined with the general lack of openness in the public sector, have greatly impacted the penetration of OER in public administration. This paper presents a case study on the use of OER for expanding and enhancing curricular and resource sharing in public administration in Greece. Within this case study, an OER authoring and sharing platform was introduced to the Greek public sector, employing crowdsourcing methods for supporting trainers and trainees in authoring, sharing, reusing and remixing OER. The paper presents the deployment of this platform and the use of OER in the context of training programmes in the Greek public sector and reports on the lessons learned and the impact on public administration. The results of the case study showed that the use of OER was very positively received by civil servants, with a remarkable response, through active participation and engagement that led to the enhancement of existing OER and the co-creation of new ones for public administration.

Purpose of the study. The digital turn in higher education and pedagogical technologies requires the use of a variety of teaching approaches and methods. The quarantine period in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic caused the need for a radical transformation of the higher education system, its new paradigm in a modern digital society. In such conditions, it becomes necessary to form a digital educational environment and many countries, including the Republic of Uzbekistan, have faced this task. Students need to develop skills in working with information, in particular, the use of information and communication technologies in the process of solving cognitive tasks and performing creative tasks in cognitive and educational activities. All these processes update the topic of the article and require an analysis of the experience of using electronic educational resources in the Republic of Uzbekistan.Materials and methods. The methodological basis of the research was the activity-oriented, personality-oriented, systemic, project-based and individually creative approaches. The analysis of the historiography of the problem showed: despite a significant number of studies in the field of application of various information technologies in historical research, there are still no works that would summarize data on working with electronic educational resources in the Republic of Uzbekistan. This article is an attempt to offer an analysis of the possibilities, as well as the main advantages of using electronic educational resources in teaching disciplines in higher education, using the example of Uzbekistan.Results. The article examines electronic resources for distance education that are present in the CIS countries, since online educational resources as a complex of various educational materials, for which gadgets are used, can improve the quality of education and diversify the forms of teaching. The author analyzes the conditions and prospects for the development of distance education in the Republic of Uzbekistan, notes a conceptual approach to educational digital platforms that contribute to improving the quality of education. The author identifies the main trends in the modern online educational environment. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of electronic educational resources have been identified. The article defines the strategic goals for the development of higher education in the Republic of Uzbekistan at a new stage of development, and also presents an analysis of Internet resources for distance education that are available in Uzbekistan. Conclusion. Thus, we come to the conclusion that in the current conditions, many countries are switching to digital and electronic means of education; the article shows the main Internet resources that contribute to the effectiveness of the system of professional training for bachelors, using the example of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The new education system emphasizes the online based teaching-learning approaches. In particular, all the learners want to secure, open, affordable, and normal educational services. The open educational tools fulfill all the educational related problems to the learners. The study's key objective is to figure out the level of use of accessible educational services and find out the level of excellence in education among the state universities of Tamilnadu research scholars. A selection of 300 research scholars from 22 state universities in Tamilnadu state is chosen randomly for the study. The thesis was performed by using a survey approach from 17/10/2020 and 26/12/2020. Data is evaluated using percentage analysis and t-test. Findings show that 30 percent of the state universities research scholars have a high level of accessible educational opportunities and 24 percent of them have a high level of excellence in college. Results also suggest a substantial gap in the use of accessible educational services by male and female state universities research scholars. There is no substantial gap in education performance among male and female state universities research scholars concerning gender. The COVID-19 outbreak and paralysis also criticized the schooling of migrant workers and their children. Open educational opportunities are a viable school infrastructure in the future, including in a virus epidemic, storm, hurricane, world war, etc.

Driven by the “Triple Classroom” project, the Shi Shi Middle School in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, built the online open course with the “Shi Shi Xiang Yun (SSXY)” online school as a platform. Thus, they send high-quality educational resources to areas with scarce educational resources and effectively promote education quality improvement in marginal areas.

In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic affected the whole world, including Russia. The Russian government had to introduce emergency measures to combat the pandemic, including the transfer to distance learning of schoolchildren and students. In the context of a pandemic, it became necessary to urgently consider issues and problems of distance learning in educational organizations, primarily in secondary education organizations. Previously, none of the concepts of informatization of education even considered the massive transition to distance learning for schoolchildren and students.The article examines the readiness of educational organizations, parents and children for the massive use of distance learning, analyzes the problems that arise in the implementation of this form of education, including: the problem of choosing software and platforms for distance learning; problems associated with underdeveloped infrastructure; problems of the availability of electronic educational resources corresponding to the new learning conditions; problems of lack of online work experience for both teachers and schoolchildren; as well as other issues related to distance learning.The need is noted: switching the attention of researchers and developers of software and online platforms to research in the field of mass transition to distance learning at all age levels; the development of new distance online platforms and the processing of many electronic educational resources for new platforms; linking multimedia educational content to exemplary basic educational programs of primary, basic and secondary general education.

The aim of the study was to devise soft skills development strategies for Computer Engineering and Information Technologies undergraduate students in the process of learning English. The research consisted of total 347 Computer Engineering and Information Technologies undergraduate students including 45 female students (13.00%) and 302 male students (87.00%) aged from 17 to 21. The research which was non-experimental in nature was conducted at four higher education institutions in Ukraine between October 2020 and November 2020. To reach the main aim of the study the team of researchers developed a web-based questionnaire containing open-ended and closed-ended questions. The use of the web-based questionnaire seemed to be quite logical for collecting the data necessary for devising soft skills development strategies for Computer Engineering and Information Technologies undergraduate students in the process of learning English taking into account the situation connected with the Covid-19 pandemic. The respondents who volunteered to take part in the survey were sent a link to the web-based questionnaire and guaranteed the complete anonymity. The data analysis covered processing of information collected from the anonymous web-based survey, displaying the data obtained in the form of tables and figures, devising soft skills development strategies based on research results and drawing general conclusions. The findings obtained enabled the authors to present six development strategies aimed at enhancing soft skills among Computer Engineering and Information Technology undergraduate students that could be applied in the process of learning English: a) combination of competence-based, action-oriented and blended-learning approaches in the English for Specific. Purposes classroom, b) integration of formal, non-formal and informal learning, c) participation in specially focused network professional communities, d) use of open educational resources for learning English, e) use of open professionally-oriented educational resources, f) introduction of learning-style based activities in the English for Specific Purposes classroom for boosting students’ soft skills. © 2021 Oleksandr Malykhin, Nataliia Aristova, Susanna Melikova. In order to improve the acquisition and recommendation effect of English education resources, this paper proposes a Rank algorithm of web English educational resources based on fuzzy sets and RSS, and deeply studies the basic principles of the algorithm and introduces several keyword extraction techniques. The user’s browsing behavior and user interest acquisition methods are classified. Researchers can plan to further explore the page ranking algorithm to improve the performance of the scheme based on the damping factor. In addition, this paper uses Web technology to acquire English education resources and build a recommendation model, and uses crawler technology to build an overall system model. Finally, this paper designs experiments to verify the performance of the algorithm model constructed in this paper, and analyses the experimental results by mathematical statistics. The research results show that the algorithm model proposed in this paper has significant effects and is of great significance to the acquisition and recommendation of English education resources.

Purpose Residency programs in the medical education field are considered the keystone in the development of aptitude and skills required for practice. With the worldwide current scenario of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a shift in the paradigm especially in the teaching of the residents from face-to-face classes to more and more online sessions. The purpose of this study is to present a compendium of knowledge-providing sites, smartphone applications (apps), YouTube channels, and podcasts that can provide better online resource management for students in the field of orthopaedics. Methods Search terms were used for making a list of various online resources which can be of help during orthopaedic residency. An initial list of the selected websites, smartphone apps, podcasts, and YouTube channels was made. The corresponding author with years of teaching experience and faculty for post-graduate and fellowship training programs then selected the final list. Results A list of 16 websites with brief points on their content and online address along with the availability of free or paid content was identified as being appropriate. A total of 39 apps available for android/apple smartphones, nine podcasts, and 11 YouTube channels were also identified as being extremely useful and have been discussed elaborately in this article. Conclusion Online educational tools are of immense importance in imparting adequate knowledge to an orthopaedic resident and act as an adjunct to conventional teaching methods. This article focuses on presenting various online educational resources in a simple yet concise way, which may be beneficial for the current generation of residents especially in this current time of unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

With increased emphasis on accessibility and quality education in tertiary institutions, open and distance learning (ODL) is occupying the center stage in Nigeria. Open educational resources (OERs) is becoming a valuable alternative to improving access to high-quality educational content released under open licenses by outstanding universities worldwide. Some conventional universities in Nigeria now offer both face-to-face and ODL courses, making them dual-mode. However, the universities who employ this dual-mode system are faced with the challenges of developing viable ODL courses. This study examined the extent the courseware developers in these universities in Nigeria use and publish their courses as OER and barriers to the effective utilization and publishing of OER especially in their institutional repositories (IR). The research instrument was designed as a descriptive survey. The sample for the study consists of 73 courseware developers selected from four dual-mode universities in Nigeria. The findings of the study showed that course developers in dual-mode universities do not use OER to a high extent nor publish OER to a high extent in their IR. It was observed that they experience more barriers with publishing of OER than with use of OER. Among others, it is recommended that there should be more awareness around this framework and course developers should be encouraged through incentives for greater participation in the use and publishing of OER in IRs.

E-learning and the online environment are an integral part of the present and future of modern education. The article formulates the basic requirements for the development of an electronic educational and methodological complex for the effective organization of the educational process using distance educational technologies. The practical experience of developing a comprehensive electronic educational resource for the discipline «Taxes and Taxation» of the bachelor’s program in the LMS Moodle distance learning system is generalized. The article contains guidelines for planning, developing and creating optimal content for standard LMS Moodle elements, providing high-quality training for bachelors in economics.

Recently, the whole world has faced the deadliest and dangerous consequences due to the transmission of infectious novel coronavirus (nCov). With the outbreak of COVID-19, the education learners, practitioners, and other stakeholders were at the sake of a loss, as it causes the suspension of physical classes and physical interaction of the learners. In these circumstances, Electronic learning (E-learning), Online learning, and the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) tools came in handy. It helped the learners in the dissemination of ideas, conducting online classes, making online discussion forums, and taking online examinations. Like the government of each country, the Indian government was also caught off-guard but the existing E-learning infrastructure was able to leverage on while devising plans to tailor them to new situations and launching new ones. The initiatives at the forefront of this noble battle launched by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) includes Diksha, Swayam Prabha Channel, Shiksha Van, E-Pathshala, and National Repository of Open Educational Resources (NROER). It worth noting that apart from the Indian central government efforts, each state has various online education initiatives that are tailored to their needs. This research evaluated each of these initiatives commenced by central and state governments and present a detailed analysis of most of the relevant initiatives. Additionally, a survey is conducted to get insights of learners in concern to online learning. Despite the issues raised in this learning, the outcomes come to be satisfactorily favoring online learning.

Academic libraries play a pivotal role in promoting open science, providing essential services for opening research and education. The library has also a key role in increasing awareness of open educational resources and practices. Editori is an open journal service at the University of Helsinki designed with an educational focus, providing simultaneously a contribution to the rising trend of university-based and library-based publishing. We show how this service, based on Open Journal Systems (OJS), can be applied as a pedagogical tool for teaching scholarly publishing skills to university students. In 2019 Helsinki University Library initiated a pilot project together with the Working Seminar of Doctoral Programme in Philosophy, Arts and Society of the Arts Faculty of the University of Helsinki. We outline expected pedagogical outcomes from the project, relating to scholarly communication skills, report feedback from teachers and students and discuss implications for future service development. In sum, students and teachers found the Editori platform intuitive and easy to use, although the learning curve for course leaders was considered steep in the initial phase.

This paper discusses educating stakeholders of algorithmic systems (systems that apply Artificial Intelligence/Machine learning algorithms) in the areas of algorithmic fairness, accountability, transparency and ethics (FATE). We begin by establishing the need for such education and identifying the intended consumers of educational materials on the topic. We discuss the topics of greatest concern and in need of educational resources; we also survey the existing materials and past experiences in such education, noting the scarcity of suitable material on aspects of fairness in particular. We use an example of a college admission platform to illustrate our ideas. We conclude with recommendations for further work in the area and report on the first steps taken towards achieving this goal in the framework of an academic graduate seminar course, a graduate summer school, an embedded lecture in a software engineering course, and a workshop for high school teachers.

This study addresses the TikTok application. The objective is to investigate the pedagogical potential of the social network that became popular during the period of social isolation caused by the pandemic of the new coronavirus (COVID-19). Its method is bibliographic research and an exploratory study of TikTok, in which its characteristics and integration as an educational resource are presented. It was found that, in addition to bringing significant contributions to creative learning, the production of videos on TikTok promotes greater interaction of students in the process of building their own knowledge and allows the development of educational skills and competences.

With Open Educational Resources (OER) teachers have free access to high-quality educational resources and open licenses to prepare, enhance, or supplement their teaching practice. Yet adoption rates are understood to be low and teachers face many challenges when they want to use OER. In a survey study, 1819 educators from various educational sectors reported their use of OER, the types of OER they used, the purposes of the OER used, the challenges they face and the impact they see. Most teachers adapt OER to fit their own needs and considerably less teachers create, publish or add OER. The main challenges relate to finding resources that are relevant, up-to-date and of good quality, time issues and – to a lesser extent- acceptance at the workplace and institutional support. A typology of OER users has been developed with five types of OER users. Implications for practice for each type of educators are formulated.

A landmark in the realization of UNESCO’s Sustainability Goals, Education for All (SDG4), was passed when the organization’s Recommendation of Open Educational Resources (OER) was uniformly adopted in 2019. Now it is time to transfer from the consciousness of OER to their mainstream realization at all levels, micro, meso, and macro, including all stakeholders, such as governments, institutions, academics, teachers, administrators, librarians, students, learners, and the civil service. The OER Recommendation includes five areas: building capacity and utilizing OER; developing supportive policies; ensuring effectiveness; promoting the creation of sustainable OER models; promoting and facilitating international collaboration; monitoring and evaluation. OER are valued as a catalyst for innovation and the achievement of UNESCO’s SDG 4, education for all, lifelong learning, social justice, and human rights. The OER Recommendation will be a catalyst for the realization of several other SDGs. Because access to quality OER concerns human rights and social justice, this Recommendation is vital. In 2020, the effects of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic clearly demonstrated the importance of opening up education and the access to internationally recognized, qualified learning resources. This article describes and discusses how the promise of resilient, sustainable quality open education can be fulfilled in the new normal and the next normal.

Objective We explored women's preferences for contraceptive education and assess the role of the clinician in delivering this education in three U.S. health centers in 2017-2018. Study design We recruited women ages 16 to 29 presenting for gynecologic care at 3 clinical sites. Respondents completed a survey about preferences for receipt of contraceptive information and trustworthiness of information sources. Results We included 270 respondents’ surveys (77.6% of approached). Clinicians were the most preferred (87.0%) and trusted (83.5%) source of contraceptive information, and 69.0% said a clinician's recommendation made a source more trustworthy. Conclusions Clinicians are a trusted source of contraceptive information; their recommendations of other educational resources may improve acceptance by patients.
