The examination of neo-fascism, especially in Latin American countries such as Brazil requires the examination of some differences that make the expression of the phenomenon irreplicable in social backgrounds as different as in Brazil. Thus, the objective of this article was to problematize the contemporary socio-political configuration of Brazil under neo-fascism and reflect on the public university in this context. For this purpose, we opted for the textual modality of essay, due to the possibility that guidance is given not by the search for answers and true statements, but by questions that can guide the subjects towards deeper reflections. The text addresses the neo-fascistizing traits and their manifestation in the context of Brazilian higher education policy based on five characteristics that bring with them arguments to take stock of the current social scenario in Brazil under the Bolsonaro government.

A vibrant civil society, composed of active non-governmental organizations (NGOs), has always been identified as an important factor for "good governance". This paper reports a pilot study using semi-structured interviews to find out the contribution of advocacy NGOs in the governance of Hong Kong. It points out that the NGO's conception of good governance in the Hong Kong context, as revealed by the findings, comprises inter alia: legitimacy obtained through democratic elections, ability to realize the autonomy of the HKSAR, and proper checks and balances not just within the government but also about the possible domination of business interest in the government's policy making process. It further reveals how NGOs can contribute to "good governance" by nurturing a democratic culture through civic education in schools. Hopefully this paper can be of reference value to the international audience as it reflects how the worldwide criteria of good governance are reflected in the context of Hong Kong, a special administrative region with a high degree of autonomy where the building up of a truly democratic government is yet to be realized.

Daring to challenge the status quo impacts innovation. Yet, successful outcomes depend on individual risk-taking and choice to influence others to support new ideas. This "Challenging the Status Quo" exercise illustrates how leaders use power and influencing tactics to challenge norms by analyzing Donald Trump's journey as the 45th U.S. President to defy experts and successfully influence followers to support his non-traditional candidacy: businessman lacking political experience becoming leader of the free world. Through integrating videoclips and polls, instructors make power visible, relevant, and thought-provoking as students apply power theory and influencing tactics perspectives to analyze (a) how leaders impact followers' perceptions, (b) students mutual-influencing strategies, (c) power's relationship with social identity and privilege, and (d) social impact on innovation via activism and free speech.

Annual data covering the years 1948-81 are analyzed using the technique of discriminant analysis to test for differences in the inflation and unemployment rates during election as opposed to nonelection years and under Democratic as opposed to Republican administrative leadership. (Author/RM)

The paper aims to highlight the way in which social groups influence voting behavior. For centuries, the individual's behavior has been influenced by several categories of internal or external factors, one of them being the social groups they belong to. The specialized literature sheds light on the complex mechanisms by which the behavior at the polls is influenced by the group to which it belongs. In order to achieve the purpose of the research, we used a sociological survey based on a questionnaire, which has three identification questions and six content questions. The questionnaire contains three identification questions and six content questions. The collected data were analyzed and interpreted, later, following the application of the research methodology,we formulated the research conclusions.

This article focuses on the gambling milieu in Nigeria between the late 1970s and early 1980s. I consider the moment when the Federal Military Government (FMG) banned gambling nationwide, and ask why it became such a divisive issue during this tenuous period in Nigeria's history. I argue that amid impending transitional elections to a democratic regime, gambling embodied three key tensions that saturated Nigerian political and civil society during this period: job creation, the state's relationship with private capital, and the division of political power. Additionally, I propose that examining gambling's recreational value alongside its functional significance opens new avenues for the study of the gambling phenomenon in Africa that move beyond ethical considerations.
