Paper aims This paper presents the results of technological analysis on wind energy based on patent documents classified with code F03D – “Wind Motors.” Originality Despite several studies on wind energy, this paper follows a different approach, presenting an overview that brings together technical and market information through social network analysis methods. Research method The study covered data from 55,223 documents filed in the principal patent offices of the world, obtained from the Derwent Innovations Index. The publications were organized and analyzed through correlation and technology transfer networks. Main findings General Electric (GE) and European companies have dominated the wind energy industry. However, in the last years, companies from emerging countries are also penetrating and becoming major players. Emphasis can be given to China, which has a deposit pattern detached from the rest of the world. Implications for theory and practice This study indicates that these companies became important turbine manufacturers and started to invest in developing new technologies and seek patent protection. Companies from emerging countries are new entrants, and their performance is still restricted to few markets compared to traditional companies.

This paper aims to present an overview of the research groups on life cycle assessment (LCA) in Brazil to (i) characterize these groups, including their constitution, geographical distribution, and the nature of the institutions to which they are connected; (ii) classify the groups according to the knowledge areas and identify the existing interdisciplinarity between research lines; (iii) identify collaborative relationships between the groups; and (iv) determine the main focus of interest and applicability of the studies and activities developed. The identification of and information about the groups that developed studies related to LCA were obtained from a survey of the Brazilian Directory of Research Groups (DRG). Interdisciplinarity was based on the classification of each group’s lines of research. Collaborative relationships were identified from co-authored publications indexed in the Web of Science. The research groups’ focus was defined based on their descriptions and sectors of activity, as reported in the DRG. The study covered a total of 82 groups and 510 research lines. Among the findings, the following can be cited: there is great regional asymmetry in the distribution of groups; most of them are linked to universities and are located in Engineering, specifically Industrial, Mechanical, Sanitary, and Civil; there is an interdisciplinary approach that covers 49 areas of knowledge; and the main focus of the groups is related to sectors of activity such as energy (emphasis on biofuels), agriculture and livestock, and construction. Some groups developed studies with practical applications, whereas others focused on conceptual aspects related to environmental management and sustainable development. The number of research groups related to LCA has grown in Brazil. This growth is important, especially for a country such as Brazil, which has continental dimensions and a number of regional specificities. However, a vast field of study remains to be explored, and this assessment method needs to be disseminated more widely in some regions of the country.

This research study examines perceptions of family health workers about experiences and health care needs of men and women in the postpartum period. Its goal is to distinguish what they think about the needs of these individuals and what they need in terms of health care in that period. The study is exploratory and descriptive and qualitative. It was conducted at two Family Health Units in Cuiaba, Mato Grosso, with 10 employees who work in postpartum care. It was carried out through semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis of the empirical material. Workers perceive postpartum as an event that expresses the essentially female gender culture that prevails in our society. In relation to women, the study identifies health needs as psycho-emotional, physical and learning about childcare. Men are not perceived as having their own health needs in the postpartum period, emphasizing the learning about childcare and supporting the partner. The types of care valued during postpartum are: control of organic risks of women and children, and educational actions regarding care for the newborn. The workers have difficulty identifying the scope and specificity of the needs and healthcare of women and men during the postpartum period.

Relapsing polychondritis is an immune-mediated disease associated with inflammation in cartilaginous structures and other tissues throughout the body, particularly the ears, nose, eyes, joints, and respiratory tract. Although association with other conditions is seen in about one-third of the cases, liver involvement is not usually observed in those patients. We described a case of liver involvement in relapsing polychon-dritis, presenting with a predominantly cholestatic pattern. Other conditions associated with abnormal liver tests were excluded and the patient showed a prompt response to steroid therapy. We discuss the spectrum of the liver involvement in relapsing and review the literature.

The study analyzes conceptions about the humanization of care regarding women in the puerperium taken from the nursing staff in a public hospital in Cuiaba, Mato Grosso. This is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research with the participation of nine nursing agents. Semi-structured interviews were carried out between March and May 2010 followed by the thematic content analysis of the collected material. The humanization of assistance of postpartum women is conceived as relationships based on respect, practical guidance to the woman and her family on the care of the newborn, listening and ample attendance to the women health needs. It is widely said that the humanization of care in the institution is hindered by the following factors: poor infrastructure, resistance and unpreparedness of the team, lack of support from hospital management and the individuals’ lack of knowledge of their own rights. The achievement of the humanized practices in postpartum period according to the national policy of humanization is still a challenge for the institution and nursing workers.

The diagnosis of cancer during pregnancy is rare and the literature on the subject scarce. The nurse in primary care is the active agent for early detection of breast cancer and uterine cervix, as among his competences is the colposcopy exam and the clinical breast exam. With the above views, this report presents the results of literature search held in the LILACS database, between April and September 2008, which aimed to analyze the scientific production about breast cancer and uterine cervix during pregnancy. In the research, descriptors such as cancer and pregnancy were used, resulting in 596 articles. When the inclusion criterion was applied only 20 were analyzed from the approach presented, namely: clinical, epidemiological or pregnant women with cancer as subject of care. In the analysis it was found that there are few studies aimed to understand the impact of the experience of cancer during pregnancy in the subjectivity of women and few epidemiological studies on the issue as well, revealing certain indifference on the theme by the scientific community and health professionals, including the nurse. It points to the need of more research on the topic in order to subsidize and encourage the establishment of practices in preventive care to pregnant women.
