Intentional electromagnetic interference is a serious threat to the safety of electronic devices. Multiple electromagnetic pulses will be coupled and transmitted to electronic devices through the cables. Accumulative effects are generated, which make it easier for damage to occur in the electronic devices. In this article, the working principle of micro-silicon acceleration sensors is introduced. The accumulative effects of multiple pulses on acceleration sensors is studied by a large number of injection experiments. The accumulation trends of multiple pulses with different pulse numbers and intervals are analyzed. The damaged structures inside abnormal sensor amplifiers were observed via optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The experimental results show that the accumulative effect is strengthened with increased pulse number or decreased pulse interval, and the threshold voltage for multiple pulses on the acceleration sensor decreases. The threshold voltage for a single pulse is 321.57 V. When the pulse interval is 1 μs and the pulse number is 5, the threshold voltage for multiple pulses is 163.42 V, which is reduced by 49.12% compared with a single pulse. These results provide a reference for the damage design of electromagnetic pulse weapons.

Background Cancer is an independent risk factor for tuberculosis (TB). The global burden of incident TB attributable to cancer has never been explored. We aimed to evaluate the cancer-attributable burden of TB. Methods We estimated the population attributable fraction (PAF) by Levin's formula. The cancer prevalence rates were derived from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. The relative risks for cancer and TB were estimated by using the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan. The global burden of incidence TB attributable to cancer was the weighted sum of PAFs multiplied by the incidence of TB retrieved from the World Health Organization. Results Worldwide, the total of incident TB cases attributable to cancer was 115,478 cases with a 95% confidence interval (CI), 110,482-123,007. The global PAF of TB due to cancer was 1.85% (95% CI, 1.77-1.97%). The three countries with the highest PAFs were Greenland (7.77%), Canada (7.75%), and the United States of America (6.79%), while the three countries with the highest attributable TB cases due to cancer were China (25,240), India (21,629), and Indonesia (13,917). Cancer of respiratory system contributed to 60,257 of TB cases. Conclusions This study comprehensively explored the impact of cancer on the global burden of TB. Efforts to reduce cancer risk, delay the occurrence of cancer, or treat latent TB infection in the cancer population could potentially reduce the burden of TB and rely on formulating integrated strategies.

To develop and validate a radiomics nomogram for differentiating between malignant pulmonary nodules and benign nodules.56 benign and 51 malignant nodules from 96 patients were analyzed using manual segmentation of the T2-fBLADE-TSE, while the nodules signal intensity (SIlesion), lesion muscle ratio (LMR) and nodule size were all measured and recorded. The maximum relevance and minimum redundancy (mRMR) and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) were used to select nonzero coefficients and develop the model in pulmonary nodules diagnosis. The radiomics nomogram was also developed. The clinical prediction value was determined by the decision curve analysis (DCA).The nodule size, SIlesion and LMR of the benign group were 1.78 ± 0.57 cm, 227.50 ± 81.39 and 2.40 ± 1.27 respectively, in contrast to the 2.00 ± 0.64 cm, 232.87 ± 82.21 and 2.17 ± 0.91, respectively, in the malignant group (P = 0.09, 0.60 and 0.579). A total of 13 radiomics features were retained. The Rad-score of the benign nodules group was lower than that of the malignant nodules group (P0.0010.049, trainingtest set). The AUC of radiomics signature for nodules diagnosis was 0.82 (95% CI, 0.73-0.91) in the training set and 0.71 (95% CI, 0.51-0.90) in the test set. A nomogram, consisting of 13 radiomics features and nodule size, produced good prediction in the training set (AUC, 0.82; 95% CI, 0.73-0.91), which was significantly better than that of T2-based quantitative parameters (AUC, 0.62; 95% CI, 0.50-0.75, P = 0.003). In the test set, the performance of radiomics nomogram (AUC, 0.70; 95% CI, 0.51-0.90) was also better than that of T2-based quantitative parameters (AUC, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.25-0.67) (P = 0.145). The DCA showed that radiomics nomogram and T2-based quantitative parameter had overall net benefits, while the performance of nomogram was better.We constructed and validated a T2-fBLADE-TSE-based radiomics nomogram that can help to differentiate between malignant pulmonary nodules and benign nodules.

Aims The management of heart failure (HF) in young children is challenging. The present study aimed to clarify the effect of left univentricular epicardial pacing on dilated cardiomyopathy with left bundle branch block (LBBB) in children. Methods and results A total of five cases (30.86 ± 16.39 months, three female) of children weighing 5.8–15 kg with dilated cardiomyopathy and LBBB were included in this study. LBBB in one child occurred after device closure of peri‐membranous ventricular septal defects, and the remaining four were idiopathically discovered early after birth. Before implantation, all children suffered from refractory HF and cardiac dilatation; the left ventricular ejection fraction was 33.48 ± 5.84% with Ross Heart Failure Classification III–IV. Electrical and mechanical dyssynchrony were observed in all children with QRS duration >140 ms and prolonged septal‐to‐left posterior wall motion delay. Left univentricular epicardial pacing was successfully implanted via left axillary minithoracotomy in the five children. Sensed atrioventricular delays (83 ± 15 ms) were optimized by velocity time integral of aortic blood flow before discharge. During the follow‐up period (10.8 ± 2.68 months), the dilated failing heart was reversed significantly in terms of decreased left ventricular dimension (55.62 ± 3.46 vs. 38.94 ± 3.69 mm, P = 0.005), while the left ventricular ejection fraction improved to 60.18 ± 8.78% (P = 0.006). Conclusions In young children with low body weight, if HF is caused by or related to LBBB, left ventricular epicardial pacing still has an excellent effect.

With the exploration and development of marine resources, sonar imaging technology is gaining increasing attention. Multiplicative speckle noise is often widely distributed in sonar images, significantly degrading their quality. To overcome this challenge, we present a novel model for sonar image denoising, and it consists of nonconvex total variation regularization and generalized Kullback–Leibler fidelity. This model can be efficiently optimized by using the alternating direction method with multipliers based on iteratively reweighted total variation. Moreover, aiming to solve the problems caused by the staircase effect in restored images, the bilateral filter is applied in our method as the post-processor. Experimental results on both simulated and real sonar images demonstrate that the algorithm is effective in eliminating multiplicative speckle noise while maintaining image detail information. To be precise, the subjective visual effect of the denoised images is improved at least 2dB compared with other mainstream methods.

Background Cumulative CT radiation damage was positively correlated with increased tumor risks. Although it has recently been known that non-radiation MRI is alternative for pulmonary imaging. There is little known about the value of MRI T1-mapping in the diagnosis of pulmonary nodules. This article aimed to investigate the value of native T1-mapping-based radiomics features in differential diagnosis of pulmonary lesions. Methods 73 patients underwent 3 T-MRI examination in this prospective study. The 99 pulmonary lesions on native T1-mapping images were segmented twice by one radiologist at indicated time points utilizing the in-house semi-automated software, followed by extraction of radiomics features. The inter-class correlation coefficient (ICC) was used for analyzing intra-observer’s agreement. Dimensionality reduction and feature selection were performed via univariate analysis, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analysis. Then, the binary logical regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM) and decision tree classifiers with the input of optimal features were selected for differentiating malignant from benign lesions. The receiver operative characteristics (ROC) curve, area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were calculated. Z-test was used to compare differences among AUCs. Results 107 features were obtained, of them, 19.5% (n = 21) had relatively good reliability (ICC ≥ 0.6). The remained 5 features (3 GLCM, 1 GLSZM and 1 shape features) by dimensionality reduction were useful. The AUC of LR was 0.82(95%CI: 0.67–0.98), with sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of 70%, 85% and 80%. The AUC of SVM was 0.82(95%CI: 0.67–0.98), with sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of 70, 85 and 80%. The AUC of decision tree was 0.69(95%CI: 0.49–0.87), with sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of 50, 85 and 73.3%. Conclusions The LR and SVM models using native T1-mapping-based radiomics features can differentiate pulmonary malignant from benign lesions, especially for uncertain nodules requiring long-term follow-ups.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a major microvascular complication of T2D. In this cross-sectional study, we investigated the association between various anthropometric indices of obesity and DR.Patients and Methods: A representative sample of 1952 patients with T2D participated in this cross-sectional study conducted in Shanghai, China. Anthropometric measures of obesity including weight, height, waist circumference, hip circumference, body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) were evaluated. The association between WHtR, WHR, and BMI and the presence of DR was examined with logistic regression models.Results: The prevalence of DR was higher in T2D patients with high WHtR compared to those with normal WHtR (p< 0.05). A higher BMI was associated with elevated risk of DR (model 1, p=0.034; model 2, p=0.036). WHR was unrelated to the occurrence of DR (p> 0.05).Conclusion: WHtR and BMI but not WHR are risk factors for DR in obese patients with T2D. Grapholita molesta, a worldwide fruit-boring pest, is difficult to be effectively controlled due to the larvae feeding habit inside fruits. Neuropeptide F (NPF) is the crucial molecule modulating feeding behavior of insects. Herein, two genes, NPF1 and NPF2, were identified and cloned from G. molesta. GmolNPF1 had a higher expression in newly hatched larvae than in other developmental stages and mainly in the midgut (major expressive organ). Coincidentally, the stage of newly hatched larvae was the best control period to prevent larvae from entering the fruits. Further study demonstrated that only GmolNPF1 expression increased significantly after starvation and declined after refeeding. After GmolNPF1 knockdown by RNA interference (RNAi), the feeding amount, weight, body size and drill holes rate of larvae decreased significantly, and the number of larvae that ate food within 5 min declined significantly. The pET30-NPF1-BL21(DE3) RNase III system was successful constructed and produced large batch dsRNA (double stranded, ds) of GmolNPF1. The nanocarrier-mediated transdermal dsRNA delivery system enhanced the RNAi efficiency of dsNPF1, significantly decreased the fruit damage and increased the mortality of newly hatched larvae via spraying method. Our research not only revealed the regulation function of GmolNPF1 involved in the feeding behavior of G. molesta, but also showed the NPF1 as a molecular target combined the transdermal dsRNA delivery system will a potential control strategy for pest management in the field.

To examine the association of baseline body mass index (BMI) and BMI change with cognitive impairment among older adults in China. The study included data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Study, a national community-based prospective cohort study from 2002 to 2018. Baseline BMI and BMI change were available for 12,027 adults aged older than 65 years. Cognitive impairment was defined as Chinese version of the Mini Mental State Examination score lower than 18. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard model was used. Among 12,027 participants (mean age was 81.23 years old and 47.48% were male), the proportion of underweight, normal, overweight and obese at baseline was 33.87%, 51.39%, 11.39% and 3.34%, respectively. During an average of 5.9 years’ follow-up, 3086 participants (4.35 per 100 person-years) with incident cognitive impairment were identified. Compared with normal weight group, adjusted hazard ratio (AHR) for cognitive impairment was 0.86 (95% CI 0.75–0.99) among overweight group, whereas corresponding AHR was 1.02 (95% CI 0.94–1.10) in underweight and 1.01 (95% CI 0.80–1.28) in obese participants. BackgroundResidual negative symptoms and cognitive impairment are common for chronic schizophrenia patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of a mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) on negative and cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia patients with residual negative symptoms.MethodsIn this 6-week, randomized, single-blind, controlled study, a total of 100 schizophrenia patients with residual negative symptoms were randomly assigned to the MBI or control group. The 6-week MBI group and the control group with general rehabilitation programs maintained their original antipsychotic treatments. The scores for the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS), and the Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90) were recorded at baseline and week 6 to assess psychotic symptoms, cognitive performance, and emotional state, respectively.ResultsCompared with general rehabilitation programs, MBI alleviated the PANSS-negative subscore, general psychopathology subscore, and PANSS total score in schizophrenia patients with residual negative symptoms (F = 33.77, pBonferroni < 0.001; F = 42.01, pBonferroni < 0.001; F = 52.41, pBonferroni < 0.001, respectively). Furthermore, MBI improved RBANS total score and immediate memory subscore (F = 8.80, pBonferroni = 0.024; F = 11.37, pBonferroni = 0.006), as well as SCL-90 total score in schizophrenia patients with residual negative symptoms (F = 18.39, pBonferroni < 0.001).ConclusionsOur results demonstrate that MBI helps schizophrenia patients with residual negative symptoms improve clinical symptoms including negative symptom, general psychopathology symptom, and cognitive impairment.Trial registrationChiCTR2100043803.

An internal fixation composite structure of antibiotic cement plates was created. The aim of this study was to analyse the infection control effect of this structure when applied to treat a bone infection. We retrospectively analysed patients with bone infection admitted to our hospital between January 2013 and June 2019. After debridement, an antibiotic cement plate composite structure was used to fill and stabilize the defects. The treatment effect was evaluated at six months after surgery, and the infection control rate, factors associated with the recurrence of infection, and complications were analysed. If the patients had bone defects, the defect was repaired after infection control, and the infection control rate of all of the patients was re-evaluated at 12 months after surgery. A total of 548 patients were treated with this technique, including 418 men and 130 women. The infection sites included 309 tibias, 207 femurs, 16 radii and ulnae, 13 humeri, and 3 clavicles. After at least 6 months of follow-up, 92 patients (16.79%) had an infection recurrence and needed further treatment. The recurrence rate of the tibia was higher than that of the femur (P = 0.025). Eighty-nine out of 92 patients who relapsed underwent a second debridement with the same method, and the infection control rate after the second debridement was 94.71%. Complications included 8 cases of epidermal necrosis around the incision, 6 cases of internal fixation failure, and 30 cases of lower limb swelling. By the follow-up time of 12 months, another 6 patients had experienced recurrence of infection, and 4 cases were controlled after debridement. Finally, among all 548 cases, 7 patients remained persistently infected, and 6 underwent amputation. The infection control rate was 97.6% at the 1-year follow-up. The clinical efficacy of this new antibiotic cement plate composite structure for internal fixation after debridement of bone infection is stable and reliable.

The realization of hybrid superconductor–semiconductor quantum devices, in particular a topological qubit, calls for advanced techniques to readily and reproducibly engineer induced superconductivity in semiconductor nanowires. Here, we introduce an on-chip fabrication paradigm based on shadow walls that offers substantial advances in device quality and reproducibility. It allows for the implementation of hybrid quantum devices and ultimately topological qubits while eliminating fabrication steps such as lithography and etching. This is critical to preserve the integrity and homogeneity of the fragile hybrid interfaces. The approach simplifies the reproducible fabrication of devices with a hard induced superconducting gap and ballistic normal-/superconductor junctions. Large gate-tunable supercurrents and high-order multiple Andreev reflections manifest the exceptional coherence of the resulting nanowire Josephson junctions. Our approach enables the realization of 3-terminal devices, where zero-bias conductance peaks emerge in a magnetic field concurrently at both boundaries of the one-dimensional hybrids., Advanced fabrication techniques enable a wide range of quantum devices, such as the realization of a topological qubit. Here, the authors introduce an on-chip fabrication technique based on shadow walls to implement topological qubits in an InSb nanowire without fabrication steps such as lithography and etching.

The application of botanical pesticides is a good choice in organic agriculture. However, most botanical pesticides have limitations of slow action and short persistence for pest and disease management, which constrain their further application. With the objective of exploring a green pesticide for controlling strawberry pests and diseases simultaneously, a star polymer (SPc) with a low production cost was synthesized as a pesticide nanocarrier through simple reactions. The SPc complexed with osthole quickly through electrostatic interaction and hydrophobic association, which decreased the particle size of osthole down to the nanoscale (17.66 nm). With the help of SPc, more nano-sized osthole was delivered into cytoplasm through endocytosis, leading to the enhanced cytotoxicity against insect cells. As a green botanical pesticide, the control efficacy of the osthole/SPc complex was improved against main strawberry pests (green peach aphid and two-spotted spider mite) and disease (powdery mildew), which fulfilled the need of both pest and disease management in sustainable production of strawberry. Meanwhile, the introduction of SPc not only improved plant-uptake but also decreased the residue of osthole due to the higher degradation rate. Furthermore, the application of the osthole/SPc complex exhibited no influence on the strawberry fruit quality and nontarget predators. To our knowledge, it is the first success to control plant pests and diseases simultaneously for sustainable agriculture by only one pesticidal formulation based on nanoparticle-delivered botanical pesticides.

Aims In contrast to operations performed for other fractures, there is a high incidence rate of surgical site infection (SSI) post-open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) done for tibial plateau fractures (TPFs). This study investigates the effect of induced membrane technique combined with internal fixation for managing SSI in TPF patients who underwent ORIF. Methods From April 2013 to May 2017, 46 consecutive patients with SSI post-ORIF for TPFs were managed in our centre with an induced membrane technique. Of these, 35 patients were included for this study, with data analyzed in a retrospective manner. Results All participants were monitored for a mean of 36 months (24 to 62). None were subjected to amputations. A total of 21 patients underwent two-stage surgeries (Group A), with 14 patients who did not receive second-stage surgery (Group B). Group A did not experience infection recurrence, and no implant or cement spacer loosening was noted in Group B for at least 24 months of follow-up. No significant difference was noted in the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS) and the Hospital for Special Surgery Knee Score (HSS) between the two groups. The clinical healing time was significantly shorter in Group B (p＜0.001). Those with longer duration of infection had poorer functional status (p＜0.001). Conclusion Management of SSI post-ORIF for TPF with induced membrane technique combined with internal fixation represents a feasible mode of treatment with satisfactory outcomes in terms of infection control and functional recovery. Background In chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), the guidelines recommend very limited diagnostic procedures during the routine workup, although additional investigations might be indicated in some patients with CSU. For physicians treating patients with CSU, it is often difficult to decide which diagnostic tests are useful. Objective To provide recommendations on what diagnostic tests should be performed on which patients with CSU. Methods We performed an extensive literature search on the respective topics and identified relevant questions that should prompt diagnostic procedures based on the published evidence and expert consensus among all authors. Results We provide questions, diagnostic testing, where appropriate, and recommendation that should be included when assessing the history of a patient with CSU, to explore and rule out differential diagnoses, to assess patients for underlying causes and modifying conditions, to explore patients for comorbid diseases and consequences of having CSU, and to assess patients for CSU components that can help to predict their disease course and response to treatment. Conclusions Here, we provide physicians treating patients with CSU with information about which clues should lead to which tests and why.

Background Little is known about the prognostic advantage of sex for pulmonary adenocarcinoma among Chinese patients. In this study, we aimed to investigate the true sex differences in prognosis by adjusting for confounders and to explore whether the differences were time‐varying. Methods We identified 4438 lung adenocarcinoma patients who underwent surgery at a regional Cancer Center of China from 2008 to 2016, retrospectively. Sex, age group, smoking history, year of diagnosis and pathological stage were collected. Time‐dependent Cox regression models with inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) based on propensity score were used to assess the effect of sex and account for confounders. Landmark analyses were conducted to assess survival before, and after, five years. Results Of these patients, 1761 (39.7%) were men and 2677 (60.3%) were women. Median follow‐up time was 52.6 months. After IPTW adjustment, women were found to have significantly better survival than men varying with time in both crude and IPTW models (hazard ratio [HR] [t] = 0.453*1.015t, where t is the length of time from treatment and its unit is month, p, We analyzed the long‐term survival results of lung adenocarcinoma surgical patients from a large single‐center in China. The survival advantage of women lung adenocarcinoma surgical patients over men is time‐varying. Compared with men, women had better survival after surgical resection of lung adenocarcinoma within five years, especially those who were older, heavy‐smokers and pathological stage 0–IB, but with no significant difference in survival after five years or even in some cases the results in women were inferior to men.

We aim to build and validate a risk-based model so as to improve compliance and increase the benefits of screening.Patients and Methods: Using data from the Shanghai CRC screening cohort, we conducted a population-based nested case–control study to build a risk-based model. Cases of early colorectal neoplasm were extracted as colorectal adenomas and stage 0-I CRC. Each case was matched with five individuals without neoplasm (controls) by the screening site and year of enrollment. Cases and controls were then randomly divided into two groups, with two thirds for building the risk prediction model and the other one third for model validation. Known risk factors were included for risk prediction models using logistic regressions. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and Hosmer–Lemeshow chi-square statistics were used to evaluate model discrimination and calibration. The predicted individual risk probability was calculated under the risk regression equation.Results: The model incorporating age, sex, family history and lifestyle factors including body mass index (BMI), smoking status, alcohol, regular moderate-to-intensity physical activity showed good calibration and discrimination. When the risk cutoff threshold was defined as 17%, the sensitivity and specificity of the model were 63.99% and 53.82%, respectively. The validation data analysis also showed well discrimination.Conclusion: A risk prediction model combining personal and lifestyle factors was developed and validated for high-risk early colorectal neoplasm among the Chinese population. This risk-based model could improve the pre-selection for screening and contribute a lot to efficient population-based screening in low-resource countries.Keywords: cancer prevention, colorectal cancer, risk model, screening

Underwater object detection plays an important role in research and practice, as it provides condensed and informative content that represents underwater objects. However, detecting objects from underwater images is challenging because underwater environments significantly degenerate image quality and distort the contrast between the object and background. To address this problem, this paper proposes an optical prior-based underwater object detection approach that takes advantage of optical principles to identify optical collimation over underwater images, providing valuable guidance for extracting object features. Unlike data-driven knowledge, the prior in our method is independent of training samples. The fundamental novelty of our approach lies in the integration of an image prior and the object detection task. This novelty is fundamental to the satisfying performance of our approach in underwater environments, which is demonstrated through comparisons with state-of-the-art object detection methods.

Type 1 diabetes (T1DM) is a strong risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease. Flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) is an early noninvasive marker of endothelial function and it predicts future cardiovascular disease. However, the changes in FMD among T1DM children are still controversial. The present meta-analysis aimed to investigate whether FMD is impaired in children with T1DM. PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane library, and Web of Science were searched for studies comparing FMD in children with T1DM and healthy controls. The Newcastle-Ottawa quality assessment scale for case–control studies was used to assess study quality. Data were pooled using a random effects models to obtain the weighted mean differences (WMD) in FMD and 95% CIs. Overall, 19 studies with 1245 patients and 872 healthy controls were included in this meta-analysis. Children with T1DM had significantly lower FMDs compared with healthy controls (WMD: −2.58; 95% CI: −3.36 to −1.81; P < .001). Meta-regression analysis revealed that low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels impacted the observed difference in FMD between T1DM and healthy children. This meta-analysis showed that T1DM children have impaired endothelial function, which indicates they are at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease in later life.

Objective We carried out sensitivity analyses on gut microbiota metagenomic sequencing, untargeted metabolome, targeted metabolome for short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and human whole genome sequencing from 402 early postmenopausal Chinese women to search for early omics-biomarkers and gain novel insights into the potential mechanisms of BP regulation in postmenopausal women. Methods Clusters of co-abundant gut bacterial species and serum untargeted metabolites were identified by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Partial least square analysis and joint analysis were performed to detect BP-associated omics-variables. Partial Pearson correlation was conducted to identify the interactions of microbe--host for host BP variation. Mendelian randomization analysis and causal inference test were used to examine causal relationships among gut microbiota, metabolites and BP variation. Results In the present study, 651 bacterial species and 296 metabolites were binned into 53 and 26 co-abundance clusters by WGCNA, respectively. Then, we totally identified four gut bacterial species, one host metabolites and two SCFAs that were significantly associated with both SBP and DBP. Moreover, we found that gut microbiota would play important roles in host metabolic activity. Finally, our results revealed that increased Bacteroides fragilis could elevate BP via decreased caproic acid, and phenylacetylglutamine mediated the causal relationships of both B. fragilis and Clostridium sp.CAG.226 on DBP variation. Conclusion Multi-omics datasets integration has the potential to capture complementary effect and their interactions for BP variation, revealed the potential pathogenesis of BP variation and may be useful for studying other complex diseases/traits.

This study summarizes the anatomical features of the superior laryngeal nerve in Chinese to enable the rapid location of the superior laryngeal nerve during an operation.Retrospective analysis of anatomical data.Hangzhou First People's Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University.A total of 71 embalmed human cadavers (132 heminecks) were examined over 3 months. The length and diameter of the internal and external branches of the superior laryngeal nerve and their relationships with different landmarks were recorded.The total length of the internal branch of the superior laryngeal nerve was 23.4 ± 6.9 mm. The length of the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve was 47.7 ± 11.0 mm. Considering the midpoint of the lower edge of the thyroid cartilage as the starting point and using that edge as a horizontal line, when the entry point is above that line, the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve can be found within 41.1 mm and at an angle of 57.2°. When the entry point is below the lower edge of the thyroid cartilage, the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve can be found within 34.0 mm and at an angle of 36.5°.The superior laryngeal nerve in Chinese people has distinct anatomical characteristics. This article provides a new method of quickly locating the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve during the operation, which can reduce the probability of damaging the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve.

Purpose: We assessed the efficacy and safety of camrelizumab [an anti-programmed death (PD-1) mAb] plus apatinib (a VEGFR-2 tyrosine kinase inhibitor) in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Patients and Methods: This nonrandomized, open-label, multicenter, phase II study enrolled patients with advanced HCC who were treatment-naïve or refractory/intolerant to first-line targeted therapy. Patients received intravenous camrelizumab 200 mg (for bodyweight ≥50 kg) or 3 mg/kg (for bodyweight Results: Seventy patients in the first-line setting and 120 patients in the second-line setting were enrolled. As of January 10, 2020, the ORR was 34.3% [24/70; 95% confidence interval (CI), 23.3–46.6] in the first-line and 22.5% (27/120; 95% CI, 15.4–31.0) in the second-line cohort per IRC. Median progression-free survival in both cohorts was 5.7 months (95% CI, 5.4–7.4) and 5.5 months (95% CI, 3.7–5.6), respectively. The 12-month survival rate was 74.7% (95% CI, 62.5–83.5) and 68.2% (95% CI, 59.0–75.7), respectively. Grade ≥3 treatment-related adverse events (TRAE) were reported in 147 (77.4%) of 190 patients, with the most common being hypertension (34.2%). Serious TRAEs occurred in 55 (28.9%) patients. Two (1.1%) treatment-related deaths occurred. Conclusions: Camrelizumab combined with apatinib showed promising efficacy and manageable safety in patients with advanced HCC in both the first-line and second-line setting. The Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor X2 (MRGPRX2) is a multiligand receptor responding to various exogenous and endogenous stimuli. Being highly expressed on skin mast cells, MRGPRX2 triggers their degranulation and release of proinflammatory mediators, and it promotes multicellular signaling cascades, such as itch induction and transmission in sensory neurons. The expression of MRGPRX2 by skin mast cells and the levels of the MRGPRX2 agonists (eg, substance P, major basic protein, eosinophil peroxidase) are upregulated in the serum and/or skin of patients with inflammatory and pruritic skin diseases, such as chronic spontaneous urticaria or atopic dermatitis. Therefore, MRGPRX2 and its agonists might be potential biomarkers for the progression of cutaneous inflammatory diseases and the response to treatment. In addition, they may represent promising targets for prevention and treatment of signs and symptoms in patients with skin diseases or drug reactions. To assess this possibility, this review explores the role and relevance of MRGPRX2 and its activators in cutaneous inflammatory disorders and chronic pruritus.

Objective To explore the activity changes in neurology clinical practice that have occurred in tertiary public hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods Outpatient and inpatient data from the neurology department were extracted from the electronic medical record system of three tertiary Grade A hospitals in Wenzhou. Data were analyzed across 5 months following the beginning of the pandemic (from January 13 to May 17) and compared with the same period in 2019. Data on reperfusion therapy for acute infarction stroke were extracted monthly from January to April. Results The number of outpatients declined from 102,300 in 2019 to 75,154 in 2020 (26.54%), while the number of inpatients in the three tertiary Grade A hospitals decreased from 4641 to 3437 (25.94%). The latter trend showed a significant drop from the 3rd week to the 7th week. The number of patients in these hospitals decreased significantly, and a significant drop was seen in the neurology department. As usual, stroke was the most common disease observed; however, anxiety/depression and insomnia increased dramatically in the outpatient consultation department. Conclusions The results of our study revealed the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the clinical practice of neurology in Wenzhou during the outbreak. Understanding the pandemic’s trends and impact on neurological patients and health systems will allow for better preparation of neurologists in the future.

Allostatic load (AL), a composite index, has been used to capture variation in life-course stresses. However, few studies have been carried out among breast cancer patients. In this study, we examined the cross-sectional association of AL with demographics, healthy behaviors, tumor characteristics, and mitochondrial DNA copy number in breast cancer patients. The study used a sub-sample of 934 women with newly diagnosed breast cancer at M.D. Anderson from 2013 to 2018. To construct the AL score, the study used a battery of seventeen factors that represents the activity of five physiological systems: metabolic, cardiovascular, immunological, renal, and liver. AL was positively associated with the age of disease diagnosis (P = 0.002), and was higher in Black and Hispanic populations than White (P = 0.001 and 0.032, respectively). AL was also found more abundant in those who experienced marital dissolution (P = 0.006), lacked a college education (P = 0.045), currently smoked (P = 0.011), and had low levels of physical activity (P = 0.037) than their counterparts. The study then found that higher AL was associated with increased odds of having poorly differentiated tumors (Odds ratio (OR): 1.40, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.28, 1.62). An additional significant association was observed between AL with estrogen receptor negative (ER-) (OR = 1.56, 95%CI: 1.02, 2.36) among Black patients. Object detection is widely used in robot navigation, intelligent security and industrial detection, but it is rarely used in water conservancy industry. In the aspect of river and lake health management, it is important to clean out the floating objects in time, which prevents water pollution caused by the accumulation of the floating objects. The early methods of water surface object detection, such as background subtraction and frame difference, are greatly affected by the change of object shape and background, resulting in poor robustness. Therefore, we propose a real-time detection method of surface floating objects based on improved RefineDet model, which includes three modules: the anchor refinement module, the transfer connection block and the object detection module. We improve anchor refinement module by adding convolution layers to obtain higher-level semantic, and fuse high-level features with low-level features to improve detection accuracy. Moreover, we adjust the parameters setting of anchors according to the scale and aspect ratio distribution to match the multi-scale object better. Aiming at the foreground-background class imbalance caused by dense anchors sampling, we introduce focal loss function to solve it and make our model more efficient by adjusting the parameters of the function. We verify the performance of the proposed method on different floating object datasets we constructed. The detection accuracies on these different datasets are 83.8%, 88.0%, and 82.3% respectively, and the detection speed is 28 FPS. This shows that the improved RefineDet realizes high-precision and real-time detection.

The growing adoption of social media has transformed consumption patterns. Mounting evidence asserts the unnecessary spending as one of the key drivers to influence climate change. Excessive consumption is rooted in impulsive shopping, and individuals are inclined to spend due to social media's personalized environment. Extant literature is limited to demonstrate the role of personalized advertising in sustainable purchase decisions. This study makes a novel attempt to explore a possible association between personalized advertising and sustainable purchase decision through a psychological mechanism following the theory of reasoned action and stimulus-organism-response framework. The structural equation modeling analyzing the data of 713 Chinese experienced social media users unveil that personalized advertising positively influences the urge to buy impulsively through the mediation of impulse buying tendency. Mobile shopping attitude stimulates users to buy impulsively though its interaction effect was insignificant. Unexpectedly, impulsive urges positively affect sustainable purchase decisions. Moreover, environmental knowledge lessens the impulsive urges. The neural network analysis indicates the robustness of integrated constructs.

Introduction: Calpain small subunit 1 (Capns1) has shown its correlation with the metastasis and invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. However, the expression and function of Capns1 in human renal cell carcinoma (RCC) have not been clarified. This study aimed to examine the expression of Capns1 in RCC tissues and cell lines and to assess its role performed in RCC. Methods: Capns1 expression was evaluated in 75 pairs of RCC and matched adjacent non-tumor tissues by immunohistochemistry. The prognostic value of Capns1 in RCC was assessed by Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses. The action of Capns1 in the proliferation, adhesion, migration, and invasion of RCC cells and the effects on matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) 2 and 9 expression were evaluated after Capns1 silence. Results: Capns1 expression was significantly higher in RCC tissues compared with the adjacent non-tumor tissues. Multivariate analysis showed that Capns1 overexpression was an independent poor prognostic marker in RCC. The silencing of Capns1 prohibited cell adhesion and impaired the migration and invasion ability of 786-O cells in vitro. Furthermore, Capns1 silence reduced MMP2 and MMP9 expression. Conclusion: Capns1 overexpression predicts poor prognosis and correlates with tumor progression in RCC. Capns1 expression might serve a prognostic marker and therapeutic target for RCC.

Objective: To systematically assess the effectiveness of core-based exercise for correcting a spinal deformity and improving quality of life in people with scoliosis. Data sources: The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Web of Science databases were searched from inception up to September 30, 2020. Methods: Clinical controlled trials were eligible if they compared the effectiveness of core-based exercise to other nonsurgical interventions in people with scoliosis. The revised Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool for randomized trials and the methodological index for non-randomized studies scale were used to assess the risk of bias. The outcomes included the Cobb angle, the angle of trunk rotation and quality of life. RevMan 5.3 was used, and intergroup differences were determined by calculating mean differences (MD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: After screening 1348 studies, nine studies with 325 participants met the inclusion criteria. The exercise group had significantly lower Cobb angles (MD = −2.08, 95% CI: −3.89 to −0.28, P = 0.02) and significantly better quality of life as measured by the Scoliosis Research Society-22 questionnaire (MD = 0.25, 95% CI: 0.02 to 0.49, P = 0.03) than the control groups. However, no significant difference was observed regarding the angle of trunk rotation between groups (MD = −0.69, 95% CI: −2.61 to 1.22, P = 0.48). Furthermore, no serious adverse events were reported. The overall quality of evidence ranged from low to very low. Conclusion: Core-based exercise may have a beneficial role in reducing the Cobb angle and improving quality of life in people with scoliosis in the short term. Background: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a significant but underestimated complication during diabetes mellitus (DM). Currently, few special treatments are available clinically due to the lack of specific therapeutic targets. Genomic analysis can be helpful to find potential targets. In this study, the gene expression under diabetic ED condition was analyzed using a gene array, and the significance of the outcomes was evaluated through clinical data. Methods: The expressions of 15923 genes were analyzed using R software. Differential expression genes (DEGs) were identified through the constructed volcano plot. The function enrichment of Gene Ontology (GO) and KEGG was screened with the DAVID online tool. The interaction between these DEGs was revealed through constructing a protein-protein interaction network and the hub genes were uncovered using the STRING and Cytoscape tool. Lastly, the data of diabetic ED patients were applied to verify the bioinformatics findings. Results: The study showed that 75 genes in the rat penile tissues were upregulated, while 97 genes were downregulated on the diabetic ED condition. These genes were mainly involved in extracellular matrix composition, collagen fibril organization, as well as protein digestion & absorption. Additionally, insulin-related signaling pathways were affected. The clinical analysis indicated that insulin resistance was associated with the diabetic ED severity. Notably, the bioinformatics analysis also suggested that ferroptosis pathway was probably activated under the diabetic ED condition. Conclusion: The impaired protein synthesis induced by deficient insulin signaling is an important cause of the diabetic ED. The improvement of protein synthesis through restoring insulin function may be potentially useful for diabetic ED therapy.

BackgroundIntravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) showed its therapeutic efficacy on Kawasaki disease (KD). However, the mechanisms by which it reduces systemic inflammation are not completely understood. Dendritic cells (DCs) and T cells play critical roles in the pathogenic processes of immune disorders. Assessing the quantity of DC subsets and T cells and identifying functional molecules present on these cells, which provide information about KD, in the peripheral blood may provide new insights into the mechanisms of immunoglobulin therapy.MethodsIn total, 54 patients with KD and 27 age-matched healthy controls (HCs) were included in this study. The number, percentage, and phenotype of DC subsets and CD4+ T cells in peripheral blood were analyzed through flow cytometry.ResultsPatients with KD exhibited fewer peripheral DC subsets and CD4+ T cells than HCs. Human leucocyte antigen-DR (HLA-DR) expression was reduced on CD1c+ myeloid DCs (CD1c+ mDCs), whereas that on plasmacytoid DCs (pDCs) did not change significantly. Both pDCs and CD1c+ mDCs displayed significantly reduced expression of co-stimulatory molecules, including CD40, CD86. pDCs and CD1c+ mDCs presented an immature or tolerant phenotype in acute stages of KD. Number of circulating pDC and CD1c+ mDC significantly inversely correlated with plasma interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels in KD patients pre-IVIG treatment. No significant differences were found concerning the DC subsets and CD4+ T cells in patients with KD with and without coronary artery lesions. Importantly, these altered quantity and phenotypes on DC subsets and CD4+ T cells were restored to a great extent post-IVIG treatment. T helper (Th) subsets including Th1 and Th2 among CD4+ T cells did not show alteration pre- and post-IVIG treatment, although the Th1-related cytokine IFN-γ level in plasma increased dramatically in patients with KD pre-IVIG treatment.ConclusionspDCs and CD1c+ mDCs presented an immature or tolerant phenotype in acute stages of KD, IVIG treatment restored the quantity and functional molecules of DCs and CD4+ T cells to distinct levels in vivo, indicating the involvement of DCs and CD4+ T cells in the inflammation in KD. The findings provide insights into the immunomodulatory actions of IVIG in KD.

Background: The correct classification of an adverse drug reaction (ADR) as allergy (immunological) or intolerance(non-immunological) has important clinical implications. The aim of this study was to examine the ability of health professionals to discriminate between allergy and intolerance, classify the severity of the ADR and degree of contraindication. Methods: Health professionals were presented ten ‘real-life’ ADR scenarios using an online questionnaire and asked to: categorise the reaction as allergy or intolerance, rate the severity of the reaction and judge the level of contraindication of the causative drug. The number and proportion of responses were calculated for each of the cases presented and associations between classification of reaction type, severity and level of contraindication were examined. Results: A total of 394 responses were received. Overall 59.0% (SD 28.9) correctly categorised the cases, 60.8% (SD16.8) classified the severity correct, and less than half (44.7%, SD 28.6) correctly identified the level of contraindication.The proportion of health professionals correctly answering the type, severity and level of contraindication for the allergy case was significantly higher (p < 0.0001) by comparison to the intolerance cases (type: 56.6% ± 33.1; severity:57.3 ± 11.9; level of contraindication: 38.5 ± 19.9). Conclusions: Health professionals have suboptimal understanding of classification of ADRs. Strategies are required to strictly avoid re-exposure of patients to drugs which carry an increased risk of inducing a dangerous reaction, whilst minimising the avoidance of drugs which are of minimal risk or allowing the use of low-risk drugs where the benefits may be significant. Background Self-efficacy for appropriate medication use is an important construct when evaluating the optimal use of medications. However, no instrument that assesses this construct in elderly Chinese patients has been shown to have valid psychometric properties. Objective To investigate the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the self-efficacy for Appropriate Medication Use Scale in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes. Setting Geriatric patients were recruited from the endocrinology department of a tertiary hospital in Shanghai, China. Method Self-efficacy was assessed by the Chinese version of the Self-Efficacy for Appropriate Medication Use Scale in subjects who were at least 65 years old. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used to develop a psychometrically sound model of the scale. Main outcome measures Internal and test-retest reliability; convergent and discriminant validity of the scale; model fit indices of the factor model. Results The two-factor model of the self-efficacy for Appropriate Medication Use Scale was not suitable for elderly patients with respect to both item factor loadings and model fit indices. Conceptually overlapping scale items emerged when the scale was used in these patients. The final model developed appeared to achieve an ideal model fit and presented acceptable convergent and discriminant validity. Conclusions This study presented a Chinese version of the self-efficacy for Appropriate Medication Use Scale with psychometrically sound properties that will enable pharmacists, nurses and physicians to prospectively evaluate the impact of medication self-efficacy on a variety of health outcomes in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes.

Summary Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical usefulness of metagenomic Next-generation sequencing (mNGS) on bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) samples to discriminate pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) from Non-TB community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in PTB suspects. Methods: We investigate the performance of mNGS on BALF samples from 110 PTB suspects, in comparison with conventional microbiological testing (solid media culture, acid-fast bacilli staining (AFS), Xpert) of BALF or sputum samples and final clinical diagnosis. Results: We finally clinically diagnosed 48 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis patients and 62 cases of non-tuberculosis patients. Comparing to the final clinical diagnosis, mNGS produced a sensitivity of 47.92%, which was similar to that of Xpert (45.83%) and culture (46.81%), but much higher than that of AFS (29.17%) for TB diagnosis in BALF samples. Apart from detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis, mNGS also identified mixed infections in PTB patients, including 3 fungal cases and 1 bacteria case. Meanwhile, mNGS efficiently identified 14 of 22 (63.63%) cases of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), 7 cases of fungi, 1 case of viral infection, and other common bacterial pathogens in Non-PTB group. Finally, mNGS identified 67.23% infection cases within 3 days, while the conventional methods identified 49.58% infection cases for over 90 days. Conclusion: Our data show that mNGS of BALF represents a potentially effective tool for the rapid diagnosis of PTB suspects.

Objective To summarize our experience in the treatment of pituitary somatotroph adenomas by fractionated intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), describe the treatment outcomes, and determine predictors. Methods and Materials Patients with pituitary somatotroph adenoma treated by IMRT in our institution from August 2009 to January 2019 were reviewed. A total of 113 patients (37 male) were included in this study. The median age was 33 years (range 12-67 years). A total of 112 patients had not achieved complete remission after surgery, and 1 patient was treated by radiotherapy (RT) alone because she refused to surgery. The median growth hormone level was 8.6 ng/mL (range 2-186 ng/mL) and the median insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 level was 732 ng/mL (range 314-1485 ng/mL) pre-RT. The radiation doses to clinical target volume were usually 50-56 Gy in 25 to 30 fractions and to gross tumor volume were 60.2 Gy in 28 fractions while simultaneous integrated boost-IMRT used. After RT, the patients were followed up with endocrine testing every 6 to 12 months and magnetic resonance imaging annually. Endocrine complete remission was defined as a normal sex- and age-adjusted IGF-1 level without any pituitary suppressive medications. The outcomes including endocrine remission and new hypopituitarism after RT were recorded. The median follow-up time was 36 months (range 6-105.5 months). Results The endocrine complete remission rates of IGF-1 at 1, 2, 3, and 5 years were 6%, 22.8%, 48.6%, and 74.3%, respectively. The median time to complete remission was 36.2 ± 3.8 months. The tumor control rate was 99% during the follow-up. The overall incidence of RT-induced hypopituitarism was 28.3% at the last follow-up. Univariate and multivariate analysis demonstrated that tumor sizes before RT, pre-RT IGF-1 level, and age significant predicted the endocrine remission. Conclusions IMRT is a highly effective treatment for pituitary somatotroph adenoma. Endocrine remission rate, tumor control rate, the median time to remission and hypopituitarism incidence are similar to stereotactic radiosurgery. Age and IGF-1 level before RT were significant predictive factors in endocrine remission.

Significant variations in experience of the COVID-19 pandemic have been observed in the United States. Increased risk of COVID-19-related death has been reported among cancer survivors, but due to limited sample size in those studies, to what extent the previous cancer diagnosis may play a role in the determination of COVID-19-related death is still unclear. In this study, using aggregated real-world data extracted from TriNetx electronic medical record data from 34 hospitals around United States, we assessed the relationship between prior cancer diagnosis in the past 5 years and COVID-19-related death within one month after the diagnosis of virus contraction. A total of 24,534 patients aged 18-80 years old who contracted COVID-19 were identified from January 20th to May 4th, 2020. Among them, 3,619 were cancer survivors. In the univariate analysis, we found that cancer patients had 2.55-fold increased risk ratio (RR) of death than those without cancer (RR=2.55, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 2.25, 2.88), although the risk was decreased but still significant (RR=1.42, 95% CI: 1.21, 1.67) after adjustment for demographics (e.g., age, gender, and race) and other pre-existing chronic diseases, including obesity, diabetes, hypertension, chronic ischemic heart disease, chronic kidney disease, asthma, and COPD. When stratified by cancer sites, significant associations were observed between respiratory and intrathoracic, oral, digestive, breast, male genital, urinary, blood, and skin cancers with COVID-19-related death in the univariate analysis. As expected, the most significant cancer site was respiratory and intrathoracic cancer with an RR of 6.49 (95% CI: 5.21, 8.07). However, after adjustment for demographics and other pre-existing chronic diseases, the significant associations remained for respiratory and intrathoracic, digestive, and blood cancers (RR=1.89, 95% CI: 1.31, 2.73; RR=1.59, 95% CI: 1.06, 2.38; RR=2.08, 95% CI: 1.51, 2.86, respectively). In addition, among cancer survivors, men were found to have higher RR of death than women (RR=1.41, 95% CI: 1.12, 1.78), but the RR did not differ between Blacks and Whites. In summary, our data show significant increased COVID-19-related death among cancer survivors. The elevated risk was particularly evident among those who had respiratory and intrathoracic, digestive, and blood cancers. Citation Format: Jie Shen, Hua Zhao. H2 has shown anti-inflammatory and antioxidant ability in many clinical trials, and its application is recommended in the latest Chinese novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) treatment guidelines. Clinical experiments have revealed the surprising finding that H2 gas may protect the lungs and extrapulmonary organs from pathological stimuli in NCP patients. The potential mechanisms underlying the action of H2 gas are not clear. H2 gas may regulate the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, mitochondrial energy metabolism, endoplasmic reticulum stress, the immune system, and cell death (apoptosis, autophagy, pyroptosis, ferroptosis, and circadian clock, among others) and has therapeutic potential for many systemic diseases. This paper reviews the basic research and the latest clinical applications of H2 gas in multiorgan system diseases to establish strategies for the clinical treatment for various diseases.

All-inorganic zero-dimensional (0D) tetrahedrite (Cu12Sb4S13, CAS) quantum dots (QDs) have attracted extensive attention due to their excellent optical properties, bandgap tunability, and carrier mobility. In this paper, various sized CAS QDs (5.1, 6.7, and 7.9 nm) are applied as a switching layer with the structure F:SnO2 (FTO)/CAS QDs/Au, and in doing so, the nonvolatile resistive-switching behavior of electronics based on CAS QDs is reported. The SET/RESET voltage tunability with size dependency is observed for memory devices based on CAS QDs for the first time. Results suggest that differently sized CAS QDs result in different band structures and the regulation of the SET/RESET voltage occurs simply and effectively due to the uniform size of the CAS QDs. Moreover, the presented memory devices have reliable bipolar resistive-switching properties, a resistance (ON/OFF) ratio larger than 104, high reproducibility, and good data retention ability. After 1.4 ×106 s of stability testing and 104 cycles of quick read tests, the change rate of the ON/OFF ratio is smaller than 0.1%. Furthermore, resistive-witching stability can be improved by ensuring a uniform particle size for the CAS QDs. The theoretical calculations suggest that the space-charge-limited currents (SCLCs), which are functioned by Cu 3d, Cu 3p and S 3p to act as electron self-trapping centers due to their quantum confinement and form conduction pathways under an electric field, are responsible for the resistive-switching effect. This paper demonstrates that CAS QDs are promising as a novel resistive-switching material in memory devices and can be used to facilitate the application of next-generation nonvolatile memory.

Various types of mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (MSC-exos) have been shown to exert multiple therapeutic effects on skin regeneration. We aimed to determine whether a constructed combination of human umbilical cord MSC (hUCMSC)-derived exosomes (hUCMSC-exos) and Pluronic F-127 (PF-127) hydrogel could improve wound healing.Materials and Methods: We topically applied human umbilical cord-derived MSC (hUCMSC)-derived exosomes (hUCMSC-exos) encapsulated in a thermosensitive PF-127 hydrogel to a full-thickness cutaneous wound in a streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat model. The material properties and wound healing ability of the hydrogel and cellular responses were analyzed.Results: Compared with hUCMSC-exos, PF-127-only or control treatment, the combination of PF-127 and hUCMSC-exos resulted in a significantly accelerated wound closure rate, increased expression of CD31 and Ki67, enhanced regeneration of granulation tissue and upregulated expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and factor transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGFβ-1).Conclusion: The efficient delivery of hUCMSC-exos in PF-127 gel and improved exosome ability could promote diabetic wound healing. Purpose To qualitatively evaluate the ocular and periocular distribution of 14C-latanoprost following a single intracameral administration or repeated topical ocular administration in beagle dogs and cynomolgus monkeys. Methods In the dog study, three animals received an intracameral dose of 14C-latanoprost bilaterally and were euthanized at 1, 2, and 4 h post dose; three control animals received topical 14C-latanoprost bilaterally once daily for 5 days and were euthanized at 1, 4, and 24 h post final dose. Sagittal 40-µm sections of eyes with surrounding tissues were collected and processed for autoradiography. Methods in the monkey study were similar; two animals received a unilateral intracameral dose of 14C-latanoprost. Results After intracameral dosing in dogs, radioactivity was concentrated in the cornea, iris, ciliary body, and anterior chamber with no radioactivity detected in the eyelids or other periorbital tissues. After topical dosing, radioactivity was distributed in the bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, anterior chamber, iris, ciliary body, upper and lower eyelids, and periorbital tissues (fat/muscle). After intracameral dosing in monkeys, radioactivity was concentrated in the anterior chamber, cornea, iris, ciliary body, and posteriorly along the uveoscleral outflow pathway; there was no radioactivity in the eyelids or periorbital tissues aside from signal in the nasolacrimal duct, likely from reflux of 14C-latanoprost into the tear film. Conclusions Intracameral delivery resulted in more selective target tissue drug exposure. Intracameral drug delivery has potential to reduce ocular surface and periocular adverse effects associated with topical administration of prostaglandin analogues, such as eyelash growth and periorbital fat atrophy. The adverse effects of invasive pests on ecosystems have gradually intensified, and the prevention of invasive pests is a long-standing research focus. Genetic control strategies are effective, sustainable and environmentally friendly methods for controlling pests and have received substantial attention worldwide. However, there is a lack of researches on the genetic control of Bactrocera dorsalis Hendel, a global invasive pest with strong flight ability. The wing of B. dorsalis as an important flight organ may be a main reason for its widespread occurrence. Here, we first analysed the wing structure of B. dorsalis and found that its wing has the typical characteristic of Diptera insect wing. The spatiotemporal expressions of the wing development genes were examined by quantitative real-time PCR, antibody staining and RNA in situ hybridization. The results indicated that the wing development genes were significantly upregulated in the pupal stage, and the regional expression of each gene was clarified. Wingless (wg), a key gene that significantly affects wing development, was selected from nine genes through RNA interference and used to simulate the field control of B. dorsalis. The offspring population and the fruit-borer rate decreased significantly after the simulated control. This study provides preliminary support for the application of genetic pest control by regulating the wing development gene and proposes a novel idea for solving the problem of the extensive spread of B. dorsalis.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, is the leading cause of impaired mobility in the elderly, and accounts for more than a third of chronic moderate to severe pain. As a degenerative joint disorder, OA affects the whole joint and results in synovial hyperplasia, degradation of articular cartilage, subchondral sclerosis, osteophyte formation, and chronic pain. Currently, there is no effective drug to decelerate OA progression and molecular targets for drug development have been insufficiently investigated. Anti-OA drug development can benefit from more and precise knowledge of molecular targets for drug development. Runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2) is a key transcription factor controlling osteoblast and chondrocyte differentiation and is among the most promising potential therapeutic targets. Notably, Runx2 expression is upregulated in several murine OA models, suggesting a role in disease pathogenesis. In this review article, we summarized recent findings on Runx2 related to OA development and evaluated its potential as a therapeutic target. The translational potential of this article A better understanding of the role of Runx2 in osteoarthritis pathogenesis will contribute to the development of novel intervention of osteoarthritis disease.

Entity linking (EL) is the task of determining the identity of textual entity mentions given a predefined knowledge base (KB). Plenty of existing efforts have been made on this task using either “local” information (contextual information of the mention in the text), or “global” information (relations among candidate entities). However, either local or global information might be insufficient especially when the given text is short. To get richer local and global information for entity linking, we propose to enrich the context information for mentions by getting extra contexts from the web through web search engines (WSE). Based on the intuition above, two novel attempts are made. The first one adds web-searched results into an embedding-based method to expand the mention’s local information, where we try two different methods to help generate high-quality web contexts: one is to apply the attention mechanism and the other is to use the abstract extraction method. The second one uses the web contexts to extend the global information, i.e., finding and utilizing more extra relevant mentions from the web contexts with a graph-based model. Finally, we combine the two models we propose to use both extended local and global information from the extra web contexts. Our empirical study based on six real-world datasets shows that using extra web contexts to extend the local and the global information could effectively improve the F1 score of entity linking.
