Findings in a controlled double-blind crossover clinical study in which secobarbital and ethchlorvynol were studied each at two dose levels are reported. The hypnotic relative potency was calculated from the patients' subjective reports of onset, duration, and quality of sleep. It is estimated in this way that 770 mg. of ethchlorvynol is equivalent to 100 mg. of secobarbital.
