A report on the testing results of a single-phase 1-MVA high temperature superconducting (HTS) transformer is presented. The 60-Hz, 13.8 kV/6.9 kV transformer model, which was completed in Feb 1998, is similar in a number of ways to the commercially available 30-MVA HTS transformer design. The 1-MVA HTS transformer design, which features transformer windings made of low-cost, surface-coated BSCCO-2212 conductors, offers the possibility of reduced transformer losses, size, weight and other environmental hazards.
