In this paper we suggest it is essential for development planners to utilize a social geology approach in making decisions on mining concessions. This is especially so in newly decentralizing democracies, such as Indonesia, where political decisions on natural resource extraction are often subject to accusations of corruption. We investigate several sites in different provinces in eastern Indonesia, where social consequences are constrained by geology and technology for mining minerals. On Flores Island, in the East Nusa Tenggara province, manganese is found as volcanic-hosted manganese layers, requiring heavy machinery from large mining companies, while in the same province, on Timor Island, sedimentary-hosted manganese, found in softer soils, can be mined by local communities. Political decentralization, fears of environmental destruction, and concerns over mining concessions resulted in resistance growing in the province, especially where companies mine without much benefit felt by local communities. We compare mining in East Nusa Tenggara province with mining in Sulawesi, long known for nickel and gold, where small-scale gold mining boomed in the past decade. We argue taking a social geology approach is the only way to fully understand mineral resources and to develop effective, efficient, and safe policies for the benefit of local and regional actors.

Continual reduction of landfill space along with rising CO2 levels and environmental pollution, are global issues that will only grow with time if not correctly addressed. The lack of proper waste management infrastructure means gloablly commodity plastics are disposed of incorrectly, leading to both an economical loss and environmental destruction. The bioaccumulation of plastics and microplastics can already be seen in marine ecosystems causing a negative impact on all organisms that live there, ultimately microplastics will bioaccumulate in humans. The opportunity exists to replace the majority of petroleum derived plastics with bioplastics (bio-based, biodegradable or both). This, in conjunction with mechanical and chemical recycling is a renewable and sustainable solution that would help mitigate climate change. This review covers the most promising biopolymers PLA, PGA, PHA and bio-versions of conventional petro-plastics bio-PET, bio-PE. The most optimal recycling routes after reuse and mechanical recycling are: alcoholysis, biodegradation, biological recycling, glycolysis and pyrolysis respectively.

Development that carried out every day requires policies to limit and regulate these activities. Development that still relies on natural resources is still abundant in Indonesia. Continuous development will have a positive impact, but it cannot be denied if the development also has a negative impact. One of them is the declining capacity of the environment. If this happens continuously it can have an impact on the survival of all living things, not only humans. Therefore, a policy that regulates permits related to the development is needed. Indonesia has a legal basis relating to environmental destruction instruments that regulate about the types of environmental-related permits such as Environmental Impact Analysis. If there are legal rules, the rules are also important. Implementation of Environmental Permits that will have an impact on maintaining the carrying capacity of the environment.

Coalfield fires are considered a global crisis that contributes significantly to environmental destruction and loss of coal resources and poses a serious threat to human safety and health. In this paper, research related to the initiation, development, and evolution of coalfield fires is reviewed. The existing detection and control techniques of coalfield fires are also reviewed. Traditional firefighting is associated with waste of resources, potential risks of recrudescence, potential safety hazards, extensive and expensive engineering works, and power shortages. Recently, coalfield fires have been recognized as having significant potential for energy conservation and heat energy recovery. Thermoelectric power generation is regarded as a suitable technology for the utilization of heat from coalfield fires. The extraction of heat from coalfield fires can also control coalfield fires and prevent reignition leading to combustion. Technologies for absorbing heat from burning coal and overlying rocks are also analyzed. In addition, the control mode of “three-region linkage” is proposed to improve firefighting efficiency. Integrating heat energy recovery with firefighting is an innovative method to control coalfield fires.

The need to reduce air pollutions produced by motor vehicle and traffic congestion is prominent as it improves human health and environmental destruction mitigation. Ridesharing programme is an effort to reduce traffic congestion without preventing people doing mobility and prohibiting them to buy motor vehicle. This paper addresses to investigate the determinant of university student to ridesharing programme. Four variables with descrete items were provided t respondents to be self selected. Those are home address status, type of driving licence, student’s travel behavior to university and intention of student to ridesharing programme. Those variables are analysed in to three models. By using Logistic Regression statictical analysis, this study shows that ridesharing programme intention is influenced by the behavior of student to travel to university. Meanwhile, student travel behavior is influenced by home address status and the ownership of driving licence of students.

The practice of illegal drilling does not only result in destruction for to the environment, but also result in the social gap, national losses, and people’s lives. It happens to illegal drilling conducted manually using traditional equipment and less operational standard. This illegal drilling may happen because ineffective law applied and no regulation on social participation in the Law of oil and natural gas. This research uses the normative method, the result of research is analyzed qualitatively. The research showed that the active social participation was needed in environmental law enforcement to prevent a great number of illegal drilling practice, the higher level of social participation in environmental law enforcement, and the smaller illegal drilling practice could be. Thus, there must be any act arranging for social participation in enforcing the environmental law arranged in the law No. 22 of 2001 because of those the local societies who get the direct effect of environmental destruction as a result of drilling of oil and natural gas illegally.

Paper writing with the existing writing format causing excessive paper usage. Excessive paper usage could lead to environmental destruction. Therefore, it is necessary to find an alternative in the writing procedure by doing an experimental design based on student reading comprehensive. This study uses Completely Randomized Factorial Experimental Design. After analysis of variance and the multiple comparisons test done, it results a new writing format alternative that use less paper than the existing writing procedure. In other hand, it results greater student reading comprehensive than the existing writing procedure. With the results, the application of the alternative procedure can save the paper usage and make student easier to understand the paper .

This chapter examines the measures taken toward enabling media to report urban disasters with depth and accuracy. Bangladesh, a highly populated and disaster-prone country, has developed good response systems, especially focusing on coastal disasters where regular typhoons have led to widespread human and environmental destruction. But the emergence of deadly urban disasters with higher losses experienced in the country’s cities has raised the urgent need to adopt and implement measures to strengthen urban resilience. The media case study presented here highlights that specific support is necessary for journalists to deepen their knowledge about urban disasters and there is a pressing need to strengthen their Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) reporting capacity that is a key to educating the public. Dhaka, the capital city with a 15 million population is highly vulnerable to fires, urban floods and air pollution. Journalists participating in the training program focused on disasters in North Dhaka and were introduced to Japan’s advanced reporting experience under the platform of learning from each other. Another prominent aspect of this study is the development of collaborative activities between journalists and communities toward build disaster resilience in Dhaka. This network worked smoothly and facilitated the journalists to highlight DRR topics in their reporting (Urban Disaster Resilience of Dhaka North City Corporation 2017).

Most scholars and policymakers agree that ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all is a prerequisite for achieving sustainable development. However, recent evidence shows that the world is falling short of sustainable energy goals, and the problem is particularly acute in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Many governments in SSA are struggling with the interlinked nature of sustainable development and are increasingly facing challenges related to the environmental and social impacts of their energy policy decisions. How can governments promote policy coherence with the aim of integrating energy concerns with other sustainable development objectives? And how do citizens react to energy projects that risk disrupting local livelihoods and cause environmental destruction? With a focus on proposed coal power plants in Kenya and Malawi, this chapter examines how, and to what extent, domestic energy policies balance social, economic, and environmental objectives.

It is urgent to become aware to restore and protect the environment, due to the magnitude of environmental destruction worldwide that human beings have produced by allowing themselves to be carried away by a culture of consumerism and waste, without considering the future consequences for the next generations. . The environment is considered a determinant of health, therefore it is important to incorporate it in the study of nursing professionals, being pertinent to use the principles of eco-pedagogy during their training since it focuses not only on environmental education, but also includes the vision of sustainable development, that is, taking care of the environment and making reasonable use of it to improve people's living conditions. This essay aims to reflect on and analyze the importance of eco-pedagogy for the training in environmental bioethics of future nursing professionals. Es urgente tomar conciencia para restablecer y proteger el ambiente, debido a la magnitud de la destrucción ambiental a nivel mundial que ha producido el propio ser humano al dejarse llevar por una cultura de consumismo y descarte, sin considerar las consecuencias a futuro para las próximas generaciones. El ambiente es considerado un determinante de la salud, por ello es importante incorporarlo en el estudio de los profesionales de enfermería, siendo pertinente utilizar los principios de la ecopedagogía durante su formación puesto que se enfoca no solo en la educación ambiental, sino que incluye la visión de desarrollo sostenible, es decir cuidar el ambiente y aprovecharlo de manera razonable, para mejorar las condiciones de vida de las personas. Con este ensayo se pretende reflexionar y analizar la importancia de la ecopedagogía para la formación en bioética ambiental de los futuros profesionales de enfermería.

With the rapid development of society and economy, many problems including environmental destruction and energy shortage have been revealed. It is inevitable to replace fossil fuels by developing new energy sources such as solar energy and so on. The key is how to maximize the solar energy since the utilization and storage of it are very limited. Here, an intelligent and feasible solar tracking device is designed to target this puzzle by rotating freely in two-dimension. Availability of solar energy has been improved by collecting solar continually at optimum angle in our device.

Forest fire is a dangerous condition when an uncontrolled, unexpected fire occurs in forests. It is extremely spontaneous and very difficult to control that damages millions of hectares of land and poses serious dangers not only to the ecosystem but also to humans. Hundreds of fires occur every year due to different reasons: seasonal dry spells, thunderstorms and volcanic ignition. Forest fires pose significant environmental issues, causing economic and environmental destruction and endangering human lives. For several nations a big issue is the occurrence of forest fires coupled with the inability of fire services to contain them effectively. These countries are also developing new strategies for controlling. Timely identification is one essential element to control such a phenomenon. Several classification approaches have been proposed, but there are disadvantages in the proposed models that lead to inefficiency and inability to produce accurate results. A novel Convolution Neural Network algorithm if and when used provides high efficiency, accuracy, and comparatively less data-training stress when compared to the supervised machine learning algorithms that require manual data-training. The results obtained using this technique have been studied and an accuracy of 94.3 percent has been reported.

This chapter explores the origin of fossil fuels and their roles in powering modern industrial economies. The purpose of this chapter is not to examine the multitude of geopolitical misadventures and the environmental destruction due to fossil fuel extraction, nor to promote a discourse on ‘strategic realism’. Indeed, the very reason for these outcomes is the critical importance of oil to civilization. Rather, the purpose is to seek to understand why the biophysical properties of fossil fuels have been so critical to enabling contemporary society.

The policy of sustainable production has encouraged small batik businesses to shift to natural dyes as these are considered eco-friendly. However, the motivation behind juragan batiks’ embracing natural dyes still has some question marks attached. This qualitative study explains the motivation of the juragan batiks in using natural colourants in their production of batik warna alam and explores the significance of batik warna alam to juragan batik. We found the production of batik warna alam tended to be triggered by economic reasons not environmental consciousness. This related to the meaning of batik warna alam to maintaining the economic survival of the juragans. Juragans are convinced that batik warna alam is eco-friendly according to the indicators to which they subscribe: (1) the materials are found in their immediate surroundings; (2) the process causes no pollution or environmental destruction; and (3) the production does not pose a health threat to people, including workers. This study provides the insight that an eco-friendly-labelled production might not necessarily be motivated by a high level of environmental consciousness.

Fast-growing cities are expected to become a key contributor to the global climate crisis. A key characteristic of those urban districts is the accommodation of mass participant sport events. Sport entities, in collaboration with city governments, plan annually active participation sport events to promote their cities as tourism destinations. Mass participant sport events aim to attract more visitors to the cities and to establish a successful social and economically sustainable future to those places. Given the fact that transportation is a critical factor of the residents and the visitors&rsquo, behavior, it is crucial to research the quantity of CO2 emissions generated to those places in association with the travel behaviors of the active sport event participants. Data collected from an annual mass participant running event in a highly ranked growing city in the United States. Findings showed that most of the active sport event participants traveled more than 150 miles to participate in the race and they used their vehicles. The largest quantity of CO2 emissions derived from those participants who traveled a round trip of, on average, 500 miles. The long-distance travelers alone generated 338 million kg of CO2 emissions. The conclusions recommend that growing cities and sport events should target long-distance travelers for promotions concerning sustainable transportation. Consequently, mass participant sport events could play a crucial role in the development of growing cities, and, in turn, growing cities that control long-distance traveling behaviors can reduce the global amount of greenhouse gas emissions and their impact on the global environmental destruction.

The relationship between the distribution of GDP and sustainable economic development is considered. The main objective of the global economy harmonization is to ensure a balanced distribution of the world GDP. The growing economic inequality, financial and social crises as well as environmental destruction are the consequences of the GDP distribution imbalance. An important contribution to the solution of this problem would be an introduction of the dynamic added value taxation (DAVT), instead of a static VAT which is a destabilizing factor in the economy which could eventually become a universal tax. The distribution of free energy in biological systems is balanced due to stabilizing negative feedback – nutritional and metabolic feedback. The distribution of the global economy working potential (world GDP) is unbalanced, and this imbalance is the main cause of crises and social instability. Unbalanced GDP distribution leads to excessive income and tax inequality, which slows economic growth. The current static tax system is a destabilizing factor because it does not provide a balanced distribution of GDP. The solution to the problem is to replace the static VAT with a dynamic added value tax (DAVT). The DAVT theory is presented.

For the majority of human existence as hunter-gatherers people managed to co-exist with nature. Historically, the impact of human economy on the environment, compared to the impact of natural forces, was small. Progression of human economies towards agriculture and industrial, fossil fuel powered, and growth orientated economies saw humanity transitioning to a state of environmental destruction and multiple species on the brink of extinction. To avoid collapse and sustain life on Earth, a transformation of economies by agents instead of the reproduction of current structures is urgently required. A new vision of economy should be based on the principles of strong sustainability and post-growth. This paper identifies “radical” (pro-environmental, pro-social, and values driven) small firms as agents of change towards such new economy. It aims to (1) identify a set of practices informed by primary data from seven in-depth case studies of radical British small firms carried out in Spring-Autumn 2018 which may assist with operationalisation of sustainable change, and (2) outline a path for facilitation of these practices.

While prior research has looked at big data&rsquo, s role in strengthening the environmental justice movement, scholars rarely examine the contexts, mechanisms and processes associated with the use of big data in monitoring and deterring environmental offenders, especially in the Global South. As such, this research aims to substitute for this academic gap through the use of multiple case studies of environmental offenders&rsquo, engagement in illegal deforestation, as well as legal deforestation followed by fire. Specifically, we have chosen four cases from three economies in the Global South: Indonesia, Peru and Brazil. We demonstrate how the data utilized by environmental activists in these four cases qualify as true forms of big data, as they have searched and aggregated data from various sources and employed them to achieve their goals. The article shows how big data from various sources, mainly from satellite imagery, can help discern the true extent of environmental destruction caused by various offenders and present convincing evidence. The article also discusses how a rich satellite imagery archive is suitable for analyzing chronological events in order to establish a cause-effect chain. In all of the cases studied, such evidentiary provisions have been used by environmental activists to oblige policy makers to take necessary actions to counter environmental offenses.

With increasing concern about cost reduction and environmental destruction, lightweight structural design is essential in the product design process. As a means of yielding products with more lightweight and efficient structures, in this paper a method of extracting useful features from a biological lightweight structure, that of the American lobster is proposed. Tensile tests were conducted on biological specimens using plastic clamps made by a 3D printer and clarified some rules for the design of lightweight and efficient structures. Using the rules of material design, a novel method for acquiring bio-inspired lightweight designs was proposed and its feasibility was shown by FEM simulation.

Natural and human-caused disasters disturb the social-ecological system and result in much pain, death, harm, and property and environmental destruction. How do humans prepare for and cope with disasters? Psychological adaptation to disasters has been an interesting area of research for psychologists. This non-empirical study examines the psychological literature relevant to disaster preparedness with the objective of answering the above question and describing what has been studied. Delineated here are individual characteristics; psychological qualities; reaction to risk and hazard; effects of knowledge, experience, and action; environmental considerations and effects; and social and cultural factors. Theories of threat response and disaster preparedness are also depicted. Na última década, a superfície cultivada com eucalipto em Alagoas cresceu exponencialmente. A territorialização do eucalipto em Alagoas ocupa extensas áreas da Mesorregião Leste e Agreste e tem o objetivo de fomentar o complexo de madeira-papel-celulose, apropriando-se de condições vantajosas para a reprodução ampliada do capital. Contraditoriamente, o aumento da superfície cultivada com eucalipto no estado coincide com a diminuição da oferta de um importante gênero, como o feijão, fragilizando a soberania alimentar. Ademais, a territorialização do eucalipto apresenta seus primeiros sinais de destruição social e ambiental, a exemplo da diminuição da oferta hídrica e contaminação de plantações e corpos d’agua de comunidades. Compreende-se que o advento do agronegócio do eucalipto, longe de representar uma alteração da realidade hegemônica do estado, atualiza suas contradições por meio do deserto verde. Purun is a typical plant that grow in peatland area that has important functions for people living in peatland area. The availability of purun is now decreasing due to changes in land management and environmental destruction. Almost all of the plantation commodities in the peatlands area, management of peatlands in the forestry, agriculture, plantation and fisheries sectors apply exploitative and pragmatic methods, while ignoring environmental sustainability. Furthermore, environmental damage also occurs due to disasters such as forest and land fires that often occur in peatland areas in Indonesia. One of the damages happen to peatland area is the damage and scarcity of purun. As users and beneficiaries of purun, women become the affected group that face the impact of peatland destruction. This paper describes the experiences and efforts of women in peatland areas to restore land and restore the existence of purun in their villages.

Law enforcement against pollution and environmental destruction include : (a). Lawenforcement efforts, both preventively, by providing counseling to industry actorsand to surrounding communities to participate in maintaining and preserving theenvironment. (b). The EIA also becomes one of the main requirements in obtaining anabsolute environmental permit prior to obtaining a business license. (c). Any processof formulation and application of pollution prevention and/or environmentaldamage and mitigation and law enforcement instruments requires the integration ofaspects of transport, participators, accountability and fairness. Preventive effortsundertaken by the apparatus include, counseling and monitoring of the communityby building stake holders commitment in their perceptions and cooperation tomaintain, preserve and manage the environment as well as preventive efforts. Whilerepressive efforts by the apparatus are dealing with the investigation to the forefrontof the threat of criminal, civil, and administrative sanctions. But of the three effortsthat are most often done is an effort with the instrument in a preventive mannerwithout waiting for the occurrence of environmental disputes.

Potato commodities present after the era of corn and tobacco in Dieng Plateau in the early stages contribute significantly to the economic aspects of farmers. High selling price and short planting season cause farmers to do the potato farming activities intensively. The inclusion of potato commodities led to the modernization of agriculture and created the social stratification gap of farmer communities in terms of production mode mastery. Population growth then complicate the issue. Agricultural activities have penetrated the environmental destruction on the basis of agricultural and residential needs. The impact is reduced environmental support and also the income of farmers. The modern agricultural system in Dieng Plateau creates a new economic structure relating to the capitalist market and contributes to ecological damage. The problems that occur in Dieng Plateau attract the attention of various parties to perform the recovery through the process of 'empowerment'. Unfortunately, the empowerment process is still technically biased and makes the poor as well as the farmer as an object.

This chapter explores the case of one of the worst environmental disasters in the mining industry of recent times: the release of a copper sulphate acid solution into the environment by a mining company near the village of Cananea, in the Northern Mexican state of Sonora. The release was contrary to a pre-established legal obligation to prevent such activity. According to the information of the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA), several violations of the company’s environmental obligations were documented in regards to the processing, storage, and management of the copper sulphate acid solution. In addition to the environmental destruction caused, further justice issues are discussed in relation to handling of the incident.

If you want to make an omelet, it is said, you have to break some eggs.

Innovation is the sole differentiator left in a global economy where it is easy to replicate the latest and greatest business strategy. It is sorely needed to address the global challenges we face today, from food shortages to environmental destruction. What we need is strategic innovation—ideas that break the mold, chart entirely new territories, or find elegant solutions to complex problems. What we need are the ways and means to meet hopes and dreams. That is what this book is about.

In this study, we present a vision of how a human–computer–biosphere interaction (HCBI) can facilitate a sustainable society. HCBI extends and transforms the subject of human–computer interaction from countable people, objects, pets, and plants into an auditory biosphere that is an uncountable, a complex, and a non-linguistic soundscape. As an example, utilizing HCBI to experience forest soundscapes can help us feel one with nature, without physically being present in nature. The goal of HCBI is to achieve ecological interactions between humans and nature through computer systems without causing environmental destruction. To accomplish this, information connectivity must be created despite the physical separation between humans and the environment. This combination should also ensure ecological neutrality. In this paper, we present an overview of an HCBI concept, related work, methodologies, and developed interfaces. We used pre-recorded animal calls to enable a bio-acoustical feedback from the target wildlife. In this study, we primarily focus on the design and evaluation of a bio-acoustic interaction system utilizing tracking collars, microphones, speakers, infrared cameras, infrared heat sensors, micro-climate sensors, radio-tracking devices, GPS devices, radio clocks, embedded Linux boards, high-capacity batteries, and high-speed wireless communication devices. Our experiments successfully demonstrated bio-acoustic interactions between wildlife—more specifically, an endangered species of a wild cat—and human beings via a computer system, thus validating the HCBI concept.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate historical environmental destruction and subsequent land use policies enacted over the last 400 years in the Adirondacks Park & Preserve – America's largest park and preserve in the lower 48 states. Design/methodology/approach – The paper includes a historical analysis using an extensive literature review. The historical analysis is divided into four distinct waves of time analyzing the specific environmental destruction and the policies enacted. They closely mimic century waves: 1700s, 1800s, 1900s, and the present 2000s. Findings – Findings indicate that each of the major policy or land use instruments applied to the Adirondack region were appropriate at the time, however, were retroactive approaches to stem widespread environmental devastation. These strong measures still impact the region today, impairing the 2.5 million ha and the ability to ensure a sustainable future of environmental protection, economic prosperity, and societal well-being. The conservation easement as a tool can proactively return the region to a sustainable balance. Originality/value – While there have been studies analyzing the historical importance and others highlighting the political uniqueness of the Adirondacks, this paper fills the gap in reframing the history and policies in a sustainable planning paradigm. Exposing retroactive responses when the environment was on the brink of destruction, the paper suggests a proactive approach using the conservation easement. Here, sustainability can be achieved through partnership between government, non-profit, and private business. This collaboration can build on one of the best regional planning models in the nation and ensure a balance between environment, economy, and society for more than one century wave.

Environmental ministries have become increasingly common, but the determinants of their global spread remain only partially understood. We develop a theory of domestic–international interactions in the global adoption of environmental ministries. We argue that domestic factors can sensitize a country to different types of international influence: foreign pressure, external support for capacity building, and learning effects. Empirically, we examine the global spread of environmental ministries, 1960–2009. We find that countries have strong incentives to establish environmental ministries when they are undergoing a democratic transition and environmental problems are salient at the international level. In other words, the democratization of a country allows international factors to promote the formation of a national environmental ministry. The findings contribute to the study of domestic–international linkages and help understand global trends in environmental governance during a period of unprecedented environmental destruction.

Background. Environmental destruction is one of the most important problems in this century. Objective. The aim of the study was to determine the environmental attitudes and perceived risks associated with environmental factors of the students. Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted in 7 faculties of Mersin University. The research data were collected using a questionnaire. The questionnaire included sociodemographic characteristics, the “Environmental Attitudes Scale,” and the “Environmental Risk Perception Scale.” 774 students who filled out questionnaires were evaluated. Results. The sample included 55.8% females. Environmental Attitudes Scale mean scores of students were identified as 81.1±11.3. The highest perceived risk was release of radioactive materials associated with nuclear power generation. The environmental attitudes and risk perception scores were higher in Health Sciences than in the other faculties. Females were more positive towards the environment and had higher risk perceptions than the men. There is a negative correlation between age and resource depletion risk and global environmental risk score. Conclusion. Students had a positive attitude to the environment and had moderate-level risk perception about the environment. Environmental awareness of students, especially those studying in the Social Sciences, should be increased. The environmental education curriculum should be revised throughout all the courses.

Managing environment has been critical over the past years. Malaysia was known to restrict challenges on environmental issue on locus standi ground. Was the court really harsh for not giving the locus standi or standing to sue to the general public. This paper seeks to examine the court attitude in deciding on environmental issues. The courts inclination of not granting the locus standi was due to the need to give regards to development much to the benefit of the society. Be that as it may development should go hand in hand with environment protection. How the courts protect the environment by not ignoring the importance of development to a country will be discussed here. By knowing how environmental issues are dealt with, Malaysia will learn the best practice and adopt the same stance. Environment sustainable development is important to attract investment as many environmental destruction are mainly caused by the commercial industry.If Malaysia can come with the best system that foster environmental and economic worth, this is much appreciated because ecological concerns can no longer be ignored when pursuing development with high consumption of resources extending to the whole of humanity. By heeding to this only can environmental and economic breakdown be saved.

Focused on heavy pollution monitoring while ignoring ecological environmental destruction, existing environmental monitoring program also had disadvantages of unreasonable monitoring frequency setting. In order to be more scientific and reasonable, optimization design of environmental monitoring program was carried out in this paper under the principles of key monitoring by stages and modification of monitoring frequency according to the characteristics of construction process.

Esta investigación tiene como objeto valorar el campo de la Economía Social y la gestión de la comunicación como herramienta estratégica. La buena gestión de la comunicación servirá para que estas entidades logren el apoyo público para una actividad, causa, movimiento o institución, consiguiendo de tal modo los fines y objetivos que se proponen.

As a result of the huge economic and environmental destruction from oil spills, studies have been directed at improving and deploying natural sorbents which are not only the least expensive but also the safest means of spill control. This research reviews the limitations and environmental impact of existing cleanup methods. It also justifies the need for concerted research effort on oil spill control using natural and sustainable technology concepts. The article proposes future guidelines for the development of a sustainable cleanup technology. Finally, guidelines for the development of a new technology for the Middle East are proposed, which is the use of an abundant resource--date palm fibers--for such techniques.

PurposeThis article aims to explore construction, production and distribution of environmental information in social media. Specifically, the focus is on people's accounts in social media of their everyday life practices aimed at leading what are considered environmentally friendly lives. The article seeks to establish how through the reproduction of alignments of certain everyday and domestic practices with environmental destruction and protection situated information on the environment is constructed and made available.Design/methodology/approachThis study is based on a qualitative, interpretative analysis of content, materiality and form of blogs and of their enmeshed social media applications, dedicated specifically to aspects of environmentally friendly everyday life. The blogs were selected from an interlinked set of 60 Swedish language environment blogs.FindingsFormal, topical and social arrangements give priority to certain material conditions and practices that then underpin a set of dominant versions of a greener life, while others remain submerged. The routinised alignment of certain practices with the environment is indispensable for environmental information to work. However, breaking with routines and re‐arranging practices is what makes them possible in the first place. De‐routinisation and the culturally non‐habitual character make for the informational value of material practices and of practices of engagement.Social implicationsThe study contributes to the understanding of what makes environmental information meaningful in everyday life. This has potential implications for policy making and information campaigns in the area.Originality/valueEnvironmental issues are an underrepresented area of research in LIS. This article contributes to the development of this research area in the field. Furthermore, uniting a practice approach with a theoretical interest in everyday life politics is a novel addition to studies of social engagement in online environments.

In this study, how much users of Hannamkeumbuk Keumbuk Mountains are aware of Baekdaegan and its attached mountain chains, a traditional geographic system, according to Sangyungpyo and basic data like the degree of awareness and use-behaviors, etc. have been studied. In addition, the environmental value of Hannamkeumbuk Keumbuk Mountains separating the central and the southern part of Korea among attached mountain ranges, secondary mountain chains, which act as an ecosystem buffer in the Baekdudaegan Range, has been estimated at the current amount of currency. In the questions of the perception of the traditional classification standard of mountain chains and Baekdudaegan, more than 70% of respondents answered that they had heard of or known them but 66.8% werenot aware of Hannamkeumbuk Keumbuk Mountains. While the awareness for Baekdudaegan is high, the perception of its attached mountain chains was very poor. DBDC responder system and CVM, which is used widely for the value estimate method of environment goods, were used. As the result, an additional benefit got when a person visits Hannamkeumbuk Keumbuk mountains was estimated as 5,813 won. It could find out that this amount was very low compared with 51,984 won, average visit cost. It judged that the reason was that damage of environmental conditions, the monotony of the trails and progress of indiscriminate environmental destruction, etc. The results of this study will offer a new perspective on public relations activities and resource conservation of Baekdudaegan and its attached mountain chains and estimate perceptions and efficient services for visitors to HannamKeumbuk Keumbuk Mountains. This study will act as data for basic planning and management to increase the mountains` value and to preserve them. Further studies are needed to make a frame of work division and management with various organizations so that the management of Hannamkeumbuk-Keumbuk Mountains may be properly established and their value may been hanced.

Due to the increase of aged housing demolition in preparation for the rapid growth of the market, Eco-friendly remodeling demolition work which can minimize environmental destruction have been studied. However, the owner or contractor to apply for eco-friendly remodeling demolition work does not reflect the characteristics of the site can not have a potential for many variables. In addition, There is no standard which can find effective part and catch a problem by performing eco-friendly remodeling demolition. Therefore, the project owner and construction company executives in the Pre-construction stage to the implementation of eco-friendly remodeling demolition construction by providing a model for the pre-evaluating the project. In this paper, the performance of eco-friendly remodeling of demolitions is proposed for the pre-evaluating model. After the eight items were drawn affecting the performances which are influence to accomplishment of the eco-friendly remodeling demolition, evaluation criteria was suggested for each item. Also By classifying and assessing the evaluation items, It will be able to identify the problems and supplements for eco-friendly remodeling demolition. Through the final evaluation sheet, The works of the appropriacy and supplement will be checked for the eco-friendly remodeling demolition. Finally The preinvestigation model is helpful for making the plan of systematic demolition, futhermore It is contribute to the expansion of the eco-friendly remodeling demolition.

With science and technology playing profound roles in mediating human relationships with the environment, a key question concerns which expectations and views of science and technology have emerged and prevail in visions of the social and environmental development of contemporary societies. This study engages this question through examining children’s views of science and technology in South Korea. Eighty‐six sixth graders from Seoul, a highly urbanized city, were invited to share their views. A drawing and writing activity and an open‐ended questionnaire were administered for data collection. The study found that the children’s views are grounded in optimistic and positive expectations and visions of science and technology even as some of the children show awareness and concern about environmental destruction. They may also offer contradictory views toward social development and environmental destruction. The environment is a very important part of human life. Therefore, the destruction of the environment, especially the destruction of forests, must be overcome. One method of doing this is through the enforcement of the environment law. Increasingly, the awareness in the enforcement of environmental law is also growing, as evidenced by the enforcement of environmental law through strict liability and polluter pay principle approach. The principle of Strict liability and polluter pay principle in the enforcement of environmental law in Indonesia is regulated in the provisions of Articles 88 and 87 of Law No. 32 of 2009 on Environmental Protection and Management. However, the problem remains as the application of the principle of strict liability and polluter pay principle has not reached its full effectivity in the enforcement of environmental law in Indonesia. Based on these two principles, the perpetrators of environmental destruction, namely the forest burners, are responsible for losses caused by their deeds. Therefore, this research will discuss the application of strict liability principle and polluter pay principle in enforcing environmental law against forest burning actors.

In recent years, a considerable amount of discussion has taken place about the environmental problems on a worldwide scale. Environmental load gases, such as CO2, SOx, and NOx, are generated in the manufacturing process of metal materials, which cause environmental destruction. Thus, the generation of environmental load gases in the process of manufacturing various heat-resistant materials was estimated using an environmental load calculation system developed by Halada et al., and the indicator of the optimum material selection is discussed from the viewpoint of environmental conformity.Research was conducted with regard to the relationship between the environmental load gases of heat-resistant materials, and mechanical properties at high temperature were also investigated. Consequently, it was understood for the heat-resistant materials with many kinds of additional alloy element that there are generating considerable amount of the environmental Consequently, it was understood that heat-resistant materials with many kinds of additional alloy elements generate a considerable amount of environmental load gases during the manufacturing process. Moreover, the guidelines for material selection were established for the design of an apparatus used at high temperature on the basis of the optimal environmental conformity.
