The chain of activities to provide medical professionals with the right products at the right place and at the right time is a complex but critical part of any hospital. The result of this study is a board game in which six players fulfill the roles of nursing, department management, and central warehouse management, thereby together simulating a hospital situation. Each role has its own in-game goals, but players must work together to create a successful internal supply chain. The observations during the test sessions and the evaluation and survey results after the test sessions indicate that playing Care 4 Supply can improve the hospital’s internal supply chain performance by engaging stakeholders in three main ways: involve stakeholders in the internal supply chain; increase supply chain knowledge and improve relationships.

The number of lonely elderly is growing. Young people could provide part of the solution for this problem by spending more time with the elderly but negative intergenerational perceptions prevent this and create a generational gap. Serious gaming has the potential to develop positive intergenerational perceptions as shared leisure activities and improve health and well-being of elderly. Therefore the research question for this paper is what factors are essential for the adoption of a serious game to bring elderly and youth together? The qualitative study conducted 36 interviews amongst elderly (above 65) and youth (below 25) applying the USE IT interview protocol. The theoretical value of this paper found 13 design factors, from which five factors were found to correspond with the interviews: Weighing of different motivations young and old; Need for a learning component; Options for a short game; Ease of Use and Communication and nature of social interaction. The empirical study also found that the awareness of intergenerational games is very low and must be addressed. The games must be fun and secure and be available on a multiplatform in the browser so computers are not excluded.

The potential of technology in healthcare has been closely explored in recent years. Increasingly more innovative technology-Assisted rehabilitation methods for various customer groups are constantly being developed. However, the possibilities of smart clothing in adult speech rehabilitation have not been previously studied. The purpose of this study was to discover speech therapists' visions about the possibilities of smart clothing in adult rehabilitation. We organized an ideation workshop in December 2020 with four speech therapists who had worked in adult rehabilitation for at least five years. The workshop was held online on the Zoom platform. In the workshop we presented three questions for the speech therapists: 1) Which adult speech therapy clients could benefit from smart clothing? 2) What could smart clothing be used for in speech therapy rehabilitation for adults? and 3) How could smart clothing be used in speech therapy rehabilitation for adults? Qualitative data from this research was analyzed by thematic analysis. The main results of this study were that patients with dysphagia and patients with voice disorders were seen as the groups with the greatest potential use smart clothing, and continuous registration of various physiological functions of voice and swallowing were voted as the most usable applications of smart clothing. The most discussed topics were using smart clothing to monitor rehabilitation and using the clothing to activate and motivate the client by giving feedback. As highlighted by the current COVID-19 pandemic, all healthcare staff must use proper personal protective equipment in each clinical environment. This requires an understanding on the suitability of various types of equipment for different clinical scenarios, as well as knowledge on their appropriate application. Thus, learning how to use personal protective equipment in different healthcare environments is of great importance, and innovative ideas to support learning are needed. Recently, digital game-based learning has gained a lot of interest as a tool creating motivational learning for different learners. In this publication, we are presenting a hybrid game for training use of proper personal protective equipment. The player needs to select and put on suitable equipment for the clinical scenarios presented by the game. The initial game concept and the technical setup were created by following co-designing method in a multidisciplinary workshop. Subsequently, an early prototype version was introduced to nurses and nursing teachers for comments on further development ideas. According to the experts, the game concept is warmly welcomed for different user groups. The experts also provided several development ideas, which are introduced in this publication and implemented for the future versions of the game. The game is built around personal protective equipment tagged with passive UHF RFID tags and can thus be easily modified for different personal safety equipment and different clinical scenarios. acceptedVersion

Smart clothing is a booming, growing technology and business branch of wearables. Its users range from sports and entertainment customers to military, and new applications can be found, especially in the care sector, for example, in gamification for health and well-being. We organized 5 ideation workshops to gather ideas about the potential users and uses of smart clothing. The participants brought up several types of technology-related challenges during the workshops. This article introduces these challenges. The results were analyzed using inductive qualitative content analysis. Based on the gathered data, the main challenge groups were found to be ethical concerns, operating features and the technology's reliability, and, for example, the lack of a need-based and user-oriented design process. acceptedVersion

Due to their unique advantages, wearable user interface solutions have gained a lot of research and commercial interest. This paper introduces ClothFace technology by presenting a batteryless glove-integrated user interface. The solution is based on passive ultrahigh frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. The first prototype of this solution was fabricated from copper tape to a normal cotton-based glove. The user interface on the glove consists of three antenna parts on three different fingers of the glove, each of which has an RFID microchip with a unique ID. Further, an additional antenna part is attached to the thumb of the glove. The antennas are initially separated from each other, and none of the microchips is readable for the RFID reader. When thumb antenna touches any of the three finger antennas, the touch creates an electrical connection, and the corresponding microchip can be detected by the RFID reader. In this study, the developed glove-integrated user interface was evaluated in an office environment by three test subjects, who all received 100 orders from a specific testing software. The average success rate in this first test was 98 %. These initial results are very encouraging, especially when considering that the glove-integrated user interface, being light, flexible, and cost-effective, promises versatile interesting applications in several fields. acceptedVersion

A vast variety of artificial intelligence techniques have been deployed to specific healthcare problems during the last thirty years with varying levels of success while there is a shortage of systematic matching of AI capabilities with the breadth of application opportunities. In this paper, we describe the process of identifying opportunities for deploying artificial intelligence to healthcare and social services on regional and national levels in Finland. The project involved a large number of stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds ranging from governmental agencies to entrepreneurs. The process described includes idea generation of an application or solution and its elaboration in workshops using a design thinking method. The resulting idea pool was filtered down to 34 best use case descriptions, which went through an architectural design process identifying AI capabilities needed in the components of these designs reported in this paper. The potential ones of the use cases were selected for prototype development. The subsequent steps in the process include feasibility prototypes and evaluation of the economic and business value of the solutions and applications. peerReviewed
