Background The aims of this study were to evaluate the time intervals of flow velocity waveforms (FVW) of ductus venosus (DV) and cardiac cycles, as well as the pulsatility index of DV-FVW (DV-PI), in correlation with umbilical artery (UA) pH at birth in fetal growth restriction (FGR) complicated with placental insufficiency. Methods Data were retrospectively retrieved from pregnancies complicated by FGR. FGR was defined as an estimated fetal weight below − 2.0 S.D. with an elevated UA-PI. Time interval assessments of DV-FVW were as follows: the duration of systolic wave was divided by the duration of diastolic wave and defined as DV-S/D. We also measured the following time intervals of ventricular inflow through tricuspid valve (TV) and mitral valve (MV): (iii), from the second peak of ventricular inflow caused by atrial contraction (A-wave) to the opening of atrio-ventricular valves and: (iv), from the opening of atrio-ventricular valves to the peak of A-wave. (iii)/(iv) was expressed as TV-S/D and MV-S/D, for TV and MV, respectively. The time interval data were transformed into z-scores. Results Thirty-one FGR fetuses were included in this study. Both DV-PI and DV-S/D showed significant correlation with UA-pH (r = − 0.677, p = r = 0.489, p = 0.005 for DV-PI and z-score of DV-S/D, respectively) and more significances were observed in FGR ≤ 28 + 6 gestational weeks (r = − 0.819, p r = 0.726, p = 0.005, for DV-PI and z-score of DV-S/D, respectively) than in FGR > 28 + 6 gestational weeks (r = − 0.634, p = 0.007 and r = 0.635, p = 0.020, for DV-PI and z-score of DV-S/D, respectively). On the other hand, TV-S/D and MV-S/D showed no significant correlation with UA-pH, although these z-scores indicated significant decreases compared with normal references. Conclusions Time interval analysis of DV-FVW might be a valuable parameter, as well as DV-PI, for the antenatal prediction of fetal acidemia in the management of FGR fetuses.

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) in women is associated with deficiency of elastic fibers, and fibulin-5 is known to be a critical protein in the synthesis of elastin. The purpose of this study is to investigate the related pathway for the synthesis of elastin via fibulin-5 using fibulin-5 knockout mice. Fibulin-5 knockout mice were generated using the CRISPR/Cas9 system, and vaginal dilatation was used to mimic vaginal delivery. We divided the mice into three groups: Fbln5+/+ mice immediately after dilatation (Fbln5+/+ day0), Fbln5+/+ mice 3 days after dilatation (Fbln5+/+ day3) and Fbln5−/− mice 3 days after dilatation (Fbln5−/− day3). Proteins related to elastogenesis in the vaginal wall were measured by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis, and differences in the expression of these proteins between the Fbln5−/− mice and the Fbln5+/+ mice were analyzed using western blotting. In the LC-MS/MS analysis, protein tyrosine kinase 7 (PTK7) was not detected in the Fbln5−/− day3 group, although the expression increased by > 1.5 times between the Fbln5+/+ day0 and day3 groups. PTK7 and β-catenin are known to act in the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, and both were upregulated after dilatation in the Fbln5+/+ mice, though not in the Fbln5−/− mice. Our findings suggest that these proteins are involved in elastogenesis via fibulin-5, and the impairment of these proteins might be the underlying cause of POP manifestation.

Objectives To evaluate the safety and efficacy of transvaginal mesh surgery using a polytetrafluoroethylene mesh to treat pelvic organ prolapse. Methods This prospective observational study included women undergoing transvaginal mesh surgery for pelvic organ prolapse that used new polytetrafluoroethylene mesh cut into a shape similar to that of Elevate. We evaluated the subjective and objective outcomes at 3 and 12 months, as well as postoperative complication rates. Results This study included 55 patients. The pelvic organ prolapse quantification scores improved significantly at 3 and 12 months after surgery compared with scores before surgery. In four patients (7.3%), a pelvic examination showed stage 2 objective recurrence without subjective symptoms. Clavien-Dindo grades 2 and 3 perioperative complications were observed in 9.1% and 1.8% of the patients, respectively. Vaginal mesh exposure occurred in one patient (1.8%) at the time of the 3-month follow-up evaluation. The mesh was exposed at the proximal midline of the anterior vaginal wall. Conclusions These findings show the safe and effective use of the polytetrafluoroethylene mesh for transvaginal mesh surgery.

Background: Pregnant women are in the highest priority group for receiving influenza vaccination. However, they may be reluctant to receive the vaccination due to concerns about the influence of vaccination on the fetuses. Methods: This prospective cohort study of 10 330 pregnant women examined the safety of influenza vaccination in terms of adverse birth outcomes. Influenza vaccination during pregnancy was determined from questionnaires before and after the 2013/2014 influenza season. All subjects were followed until the end of their pregnancy. Adverse birth outcomes, including miscarriage, stillbirth, preterm birth, low birth weight, and malformation, were assessed by obstetrician reports. Results: Adverse birth outcomes were reported for 641 (10%) of the 6387 unvaccinated pregnant women and 356 (9%) of the 3943 vaccinated pregnant women. Even after adjusting for potential confounders, vaccination during pregnancy showed no association with the risk of adverse birth outcomes (odds ratio 0.90, 95% confidence interval 0.76–1.07). Vaccination during the first or second trimester displayed no association with adverse birth outcomes, whereas vaccination during the third trimester was associated with a decreased risk of adverse birth outcomes (odds ratio 0.70, 95% confidence interval 0.51–0.98). Conclusions: Influenza vaccination during pregnancy did not increase the risk of adverse birth outcomes, regardless of the trimester in which vaccination was performed, when compared to unvaccinated pregnant women. Preterm birth (PTB) and threatened preterm labor (TPL), an important pre-PTB state, are major obstetric complications during pregnancy. However, their triggers have not been fully elucidated. The vagina is dominated by Lactobacillus species (categorized as community state types, CSTs I, II, III, and V) or by mixed anaerobes (CST IV). An abundance of the latter is associated with bacterial vaginosis (BV) and BV-triggered PTB/TPL. To identify factors that influence the diversity of vaginal microbiota associated with BV and CST IV (BV-type) bacterial profile, we performed a bioinformatic analysis of the microbial taxa using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing data of bacterial genome in oral, vaginal, and rectal samples collected from 58 pregnant Japanese women. Interestingly, common residence of BV-associated bacteria in the vagina and rectum was individually detected in the CST IV (non-Lactobacillus dominated) group by species-level Spearman correlation coefficient analysis, suggesting that the rectum acts as a reservoir of BV-associated bacterial species in the CST IV group. The current study provides evidence of bacterial co-residence in vagina and rectum in the non-Lactobacillus dominated group, which could be targeted to reduce the risk of preterm incidence in pregnancy.

Aim Tension-free vaginal mesh (TVM) surgery using synthetic polypropylene (PP) soft mesh had spread rapidly. However, the frequency of mesh-related postoperative complications had increased, and PP was banned in April 2019. In Japan, however, transvaginal surgery using polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) mesh had been approved. In this study, we evaluated the clinical outcome and quality of life (QOL) of the postoperative course using PP mesh and PTFE mesh (named "ORIHIME™" ) in a combination surgery for utero-sacral ligament suspension and anterior vaginal support using anterior TVM. Methods The vaginal hysterectomy and utero-sacral ligament colpopexy augmented by anterior vaginal mesh implants using PP mesh and PTFE mesh were performed on patients with stage III to IV cystocele and uterine prolapse. The clinical outcome and QOL changes in their postoperative course were evaluated by comparing 15 cases of PP mesh and 13 cases of PTFE mesh. Results There was no difference between the PP group and PTFE group in characteristics. No mesh-related complications occurred during the follow-up period. With regard to the pelvic organ prolapse quantification (POP-Q) score, no significant difference was found between the two groups. Comparing the postoperative QOL of both groups, the PTFE group had significantly higher values in two domains than PP group (SF-12v2 questionnaire). Conclusions We used the world's first PTFE mesh to compare PP mesh with postoperative POP-Q and QOL after the same surgery, with the same operator, and at the same institution. The results showed no significant difference between both mesh materials in the short-term.

Amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is a catastrophic condition in the peripartum period and still remains as a leading cause of maternal death. Although over 80% of cases of AFE cases are accompanied by coagulopathy, the pathology of disseminated intravascular coagulation is not well understood not only because of its rarity but also because of the limited availability of laboratory testing in emergent clinical settings. We describe a case of AFE whose characteristic data for coagulation and fibrinolysis were timely depicted with sequential thromboelastography. We believe that the point-of-care, which provides information for both coagulopathy and fibrinolysis, may provide crucial data not only for the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage in daily clinical practice but also for the elucidation of AFE pathophysiology.

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a multifactorial disorder that impairs the quality of life (QoL) of older women in particular. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the pathogenesis of POP by focusing on the extracellular matrix (ECM). Patients were classified into two groups—with or without cervical elongation—using the POP quantification system. Specimens were obtained from 29 women with POP during hysterectomy. The expression of fibulin-5, elastin, integrin β1 (ITGβ1), lysyl oxidase-like protein-1 (LOXL1) and collagen in the vagina, uterosacral ligament, and uterine cervix was investigated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and correlation between gene levels and severity of POP examined. The location of proteins was analyzed using immunohistochemical staining and expression of fibulin-5 protein analyzed by Western blotting. Fibulin-5 and elastin were mainly expressed in lamina propria and fibromuscular layers of the vagina and uterosacral ligament. Gene levels of fibulin-5 and ITGβ1 in uterosacral ligaments increased with severity of POP in women with cervical elongation, while no correlation was observed in women with a normal cervix. In women with uterine cervical elongation, each ECM-related gene significantly increased with POP staging. Furthermore, fibulin-5 protein also increased in the uterosacral ligament and uterine cervix. The severity of POP and gene expression of ECM-related proteins were inversely correlated in vaginal tissue in a normal and elongated cervix. These results suggested that the differing progression of the two types of POP have a relationship with ECM-related protein.

Aim: Incarcerated gravid uterus is a rare obstetrical complication that leads to adverse outcomes, especially if the uterus remains incarcerated and the condition goes undiagnosed until delivery. However, there is no consensus regarding the optimal management of this complication because of its rarity. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the incidence of incarcerated gravid uterus, as well as its natural courses and perinatal outcomes. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of patients who had incarcerated gravid uterus and managed at Osaka City University Hospital between April 2011 and March 2021. Incarcerated gravid uterus was defined as a retroverted or retroflexed uterus after 16 weeks of gestation. Results: There were 14 incarcerated cases among 6958 pregnant women, and 13 of them had some kind of gynecological complication and/or history. Spontaneous resolution of incarcerated gravid uterus after 16 gestational weeks was observed in six cases before the late second trimester and five cases at the late second trimester to early third trimester. Three cases remained incarcerated at term or near-term. One case with adenomyosis had severe abdominal pain, although it was difficult to ascertain whether the cause of pain was triggered by adenomyosis and/or incarceration. One case was misdiagnosed as placenta previa, and the uterine cervix was subsequently injured during cesarean delivery, resulting in massive hemorrhaging. Conclusions: Approximately 1 in 2300 pregnancies continued to be in an incarcerated condition at term or near-term, and 78.5% of cases showed a spontaneous resolution after 16 weeks of gestation. Expectant management with careful attention to the incarcerated gravid uterus may be one option in situations where there are no severe symptoms related to the incarceration itself.

Obstetricians are sometimes faced with a dilemma in that polypectomy, which is a prerequisite for differentiating malignancy, may be associate with miscarriage or preterm delivery. We describe a case with a decidual polyp resulted in first trimester miscarriage after diagnostic polypectomy. Our experience with this patient provides us important information for clinical practice. That is, decidual polyp can be recognized as early as gestational week 5, the roots of cervical polyps should be meticulously observed, a polyp connected to the decidua is suggestive finding of decidual polyp, and suspected decidual polyp can be managed conservatively.

Background: We aimed to identify clinical characteristics and outcomes for each placental type of vasa previa (VP). Methods: Placental types of vasa previa were defined as follows: Type 1, vasa previa with velamentous cord insertion and non-type 1, vasa previa with a multilobed or succenturiate placenta and vasa previa with vessels branching out from the placental surface and returning to the placental cotyledons. Results: A total of 55 cases of vasa previa were included in this study, with 35 cases of type 1 and 20 cases of non-type 1. Vasa previa with type 1 showed a significantly higher association with assisted reproductive technology, compared with non-type 1 (p = 0.024, 60.0% and 25.0%, respectively). The diagnosis was significantly earlier in the type 1 group than in the non-Type 1 group (p = 0.027, 21.4 weeks and 28.6 weeks, respectively). Moreover, the Ward technique for anterior placentation to avoid injury of the placenta and/or fetal vessels was more frequently required in non-type 1 cases (p <, 0.001, 60.0%, compared with 14.3% for type 1). Conclusion: The concept of defining placental types of vasa previa will provide useful information for the screening of this serious complication, improve its clinical management and operative strategy, and achieve more preferable perinatal outcomes.

Aim The optimal treatment for pelvic organ prolapse has been the subject of much discussion. The aim of this study was to assess the utility of a combination of uterosacral colpopexy and anterior vaginal mesh implantation. Methods A single-center prospective cohort study was conducted. Twenty-eight patients with stage III–IV cystocele and uterine prolapse underwent reconstructive surgery. A combination of vaginal hysterectomy, McCall culdeplasty, and trocar-guided anterior vaginal mesh implantation was performed, and the patients' postoperative outcomes were analyzed. Patient satisfaction was investigated using the modified Short Form 12 version 2 (SF-12v2) questionnaire, and interviews regarding sexual behavior were conducted at 1 postoperative year. Results A bladder injury occurred during the dissection in one case (3.6%). Recurrent vaginal vault prolapse beyond the hymen was observed in one patient (cure rate: 96.4%), and further mesh augmentation was required in this case. Another patient developed mild cystocele (Ba = 0), but was simply observed because she did not complain of any symptoms caused by vaginal descent. We did not experience any other mesh-related complications, such as protrusion, chronic pain, or chronic inflammation, during the follow-up period. The patients' modified SF-12 scores at 12 months were significantly better than their preoperative scores in all eight domains. Conclusion The satisfactory correction of pelvic organ prolapse was achieved using a combination of vaginal hysterectomy and uterosacral ligament colpopexy augmented by anterior vaginal mesh implantation. © 2016 Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Objective The aim of this study was to compare glucose intolerance in the antenatal and the postpartum periods using a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in the Japanese women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) using a retrospective design. Patients and Methods Data were obtained from 85 Japanese women with GDM who delivered from April 2011 through April 2015 and who underwent an OGTT 6–14 weeks postpartum. The women were divided into two groups based on the results of the postpartum OGTT: one group with normal glucose tolerance (NGT) and the other with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) as well as impaired fasting glucose (IFG). We analyzed the associations between postpartum IGT–IFG and various factors. Results Antenatally, a significant difference was observed between the groups only in the 1-hour plasma glucose level of the 75-g OGTT. Postpartum results of plasma glucose level were significantly higher at 0.5, 1, and 2 hours in the IGT–IFG group than those in the NGT group. Moreover, a significant decrease in the levels of 0.5-hour immunoreactive insulin and insulinogenic index was observed in the IGT–IFG group compared to those in the NGT group. Homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance and homeostasis model assessment β-cell function of both groups were found to significantly decrease in the postpartum period; however, there was no significant change in the insulinogenic index of either group. Conclusions Our study clearly showed that the postpartum IGT and IFG levels of Japanese women with GDM are affected by impaired early-phase insulin secretion; however, insulin resistance promptly improves.

To evaluate influenza disease burden among pregnant women, an epidemiological study using the self-control method was conducted. Study subjects were 12,838 pregnant women who visited collaborating maternity hospitals and clinics in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, before the 2013/14 influenza season. As a study outcome, hospitalization due to respiratory illnesses between the 2010/11 and 2013/14 seasons was collected from each study subject through a baseline survey at the time of recruitment and a second survey after the 2013/14 season. The hospitalization rates during pregnancy and non-pregnancy periods was calculated separately. To compare the hospitalization rate during pregnancy with that during non-pregnancy within the same single study subject, Mantel-Haenzel rate ratios (RRMH) were calculated. During the four seasons examined in this study, nine and 17 subjects were hospitalized due to respiratory illnesses during pregnancy and non-pregnancy periods, respectively. The hospitalization rate was 2.54 per 10,000 woman-months during pregnancy and 1.08 per 10,000 woman-months during non-pregnancy. The RRMH for the hospitalization rate during pregnancy compared with that during non-pregnancy was 4.30 (95% confidence interval, 1.96-9.41). Our results suggest that during the influenza season, pregnant women have a higher risk than non-pregnant women for hospitalization due to respiratory illnesses. The self-control method appears to be an appropriate epidemiological method for evaluating the disease burden of influenza among pregnant women.

Objective The aims of this study were to investigate the time intervals of each component of cardiac flow velocity waveforms (FVWs) in fetuses with fetal growth restriction (FGR) and to compare these with those of normal fetuses using reference ranges. Methods The durations of atrioventricular (AV) valve opening (AVVO), AV valve closure (AVVC), total E- (total-E) and A- (total-A) waves, total ejection time (total-ET), acceleration time (acc-E for E-wave, acc-A for A-wave, and acc-ET for ejection time), and deceleration time (dec-E for E-wave, dec-A for A-wave, and dec-ET for ejection time) were measured in fetuses with FGR. All variables were analyzed using z -scores. Results Measurements of 17 growth-restricted fetuses were obtained. The time intervals between the last Doppler examination and delivery ranged from 0 to 6 days, with a median of 1 day. Significant increases were observed in AVVO, total-E, dec-E, and acc-A of the left heart. acc-E, acc-ET and AVVC of the left heart were significantly decreased. In the right heart, AVVO, total-E and dec-E were significantly increased. Conclusion A prolonged time interval between early ventricular inflow and atrial contraction, as well as increased duration of AV valve opening, may reflect hemodynamic alterations in FGR fetuses.

Objectives To investigate time intervals of ductus venosus (DV) flow velocity waveforms (FVW) in correlation to fetal heart rate and gestational age and to construct reference ranges for the second and third trimester. Furthermore, we investigate time intervals of FVW through the tricuspid valve. Methods Flow velocity waveforms of the DV and through the tricuspid valve were recorded in 135 normal singleton fetuses between 17 and 38 weeks' gestation. Time intervals for systolic (S) and early diastolic (D) peaks were analyzed regarding acceleration time (acc-S for S, acc-D for D) and deceleration time (dec-S for S, dec-D for D), respectively. Similarly, time intervals for both peaks of right ventricular inflow were analyzed regarding acceleration time (acc-E for E-wave, acc-A for A-wave) and deceleration time (dec-E for E-wave, dec-A for A-wave), respectively. Results In the DV, acc-D and dec-D increased significantly with gestational age. In tricuspid valve, acc-E and acc-A showed a significant increase with gestational age. All parameters except acc-S showed significant negative correlations with fetal heart rate. Conclusion With advancing gestational age, prolongation of the diastolic phase of DV-FVW and of the E-wave of tricuspid flow was observed, suggesting maturation of ventricular diastolic function. Time-related analysis of Doppler signals of DV-FVW may provide detailed insights into fetal cardiac function. © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The wide spread of green walls in urban areas has come to be desired for the purpose of the environmental improvement, particularly the improvement of urban landscape. Various new green wall construction methods have been developed. On the other hand, we can see many bad green walls which vegetation has withered or with which the vegetation is replaced to the fake. This makes fine greening of urban areas worse rather. So, this research has been conducted to recognize what is required to create fine greening of urban areas by making green walls. When planning a green wall, it becomes important to grasp what are the evaluation criteria with a high priority. For example, when the green wall construction method with a highly attractive design is selected, and its maintenance performance is inferior, the control of maintenance which is good enough and has much frequency must be needed to secure fine greening permanently.

Among surgical procedures of Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome, the laparoscopic Davydov's technique seems to offer the most feasible and effective approach for creating a neovagina. Several reports have pointed at the necessity for mobilization of the peritoneum to obtain a longer neovagina and have reported a modified laparoscopic Davydov’s method. A new method was performed for a 24- and an 18-year-old patient. The most significant method in present procedure was to leave the thickened tissue that connects both rudimentary uteruses. The advantages of present procedure are physiological, creating a longer neovagina. Furthermore, this approach may help prevent prolapse of pelvic organs by leaving the thickened tissue as a ceiling.

In order to apply a new greening system with ultra-lightweight substrate to factory roofs, the experiment was conducted. This ultra-lightweight substrate consists of some kind of vine plants and auxiliary materials for inducing their vines or tendrils without soil. Vine plants were planted in a planting bed on the ground. They climbed on the auxiliary materials which were set on the wall, and reached to those of the roof. As a result, the ultra-lightweight factory rooftop greening system could almost cover the experimental area of the roof with vine plants for two years, and could improve indoor warm temperature environment. Furthermore, this system enables us to minimize the live load of the roof to 150N/m2.

An electrolytic solution surface was used to simulate the surface of wet polluted insulators. When a local discharge propagates on the electrolytic solution under an impulse voltage, the discharge current flows in the electrolytic solution through the contacting surface between the local discharge and the electrolytic solution. Accordingly, a potential distribution occurs along the electrolytic solution. The authors examined the shape of the contacting surface between the local discharge and the solution. By using the shape of the contacting surface, an electric potential near the tip of the local discharge on the electrolytic solution was calculated. A source of the discharge current at the contacting surface is replaced by charge and the potential on the electrolytic solution is calculated with the image method. In this paper, the potential was measured along the solution in the low pressure air with a probe. The calculated values and the measured values of the potential agreed well regardless of the peak value of the applied voltage, the resistivity of the solution, and the waveform of the applied voltage.

Umbilical arterial flow velocity has been widely used for the estimation of fetal status. This is clinically useful, but affected by physiological characteristics or other factors such as maternal drug administration. Otherwise, umbilical venous pulsation is also used for fetal estimation. But, this particular pattern appeared not only from fetal cardiac problems, but from umbilical cord characteristics. We summarized the various factors which affect the umbilical circulation.

The essential challenge in the future ubiquitous networks is to make information available to people not only at any time, at any place, and in any form, but with the right thing at the right time in the right way by inferring the users' situations. Several psychological experiments show that there are some associations between each user's situations including the user's emotions and each user's task selection. Utilizing those results, this article presents a situation-based task selection mechanism that enables a life-supporting robot system to perform tasks based on the user's situation. Stimulated by interactions between the robot and the user, this mechanism constructs and updates the association between the user's situation and tasks so that the robot can adapt to the user's behaviors related to the robot's tasks effectively. For the user adaptation, Radial Basis Function Networks (RBFNs) and associative learning algorithms are used. The proposed mechanism is applied to the CRF3 (Character robot face 3) system to prove its feasibility and effectiveness.

Objective To investigate time intervals of the ductus venosus (DV) flow velocity waveform (FVW) and those of the cardiac cycle that correspond with each DV-FVW component in fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) due to placental insufficiency. Methods Women with a pregnancy complicated by IUGR were recruited into the study, as was a normal control group. Time intervals for systolic (S) and diastolic (D) components were measured in DV-FVW as follows: SDV, from the nadir of the a-wave during atrial contraction to the nadir between the S-wave and D-wave; DDV, from the nadir between S-wave and D-wave to the nadir of the a-wave. Regarding cardiac cycles, the following variables were measured from ventricular inflow through the tricuspid valve (TV) and mitral valve (MV): STV and SMV, from the second peak of ventricular inflow caused by atrial contraction (A-wave) to the opening of the atrioventricular valve; DTV and DMV, from the opening of the atrioventricular valve to the peak of the A-wave. In the IUGR group, only the last examination performed within 1 week of delivery was used for analysis. All variables were analyzed statistically using Z-scores. Results Data were obtained from 249 normal fetuses and 26 fetuses with IUGR. Compared to normal fetuses, SDV showed a significant decrease (P

We thank Dr. Matsubara for the questions and comments. First, as Dr. Matsubara mentioned [1], massive bleeding from anterior lower uterine segment was controllable by the combination of figure-of-eight suture and Cho’s suture in all of our cases [2, 3]. One reason for high success rate might be the exclusion of placenta increate. Second, bleeding by the tear of the suture of myometrium was also controllable by the additional figure-of-eight suture around the tear and this technique was not difficult in our experience. Of course, assistant needs to show the bleeding points precisely in this situation. Third, we have never needed to use additional treatments including intrauterine balloon after the application of our technique, as we described in the letter. Although we are fully aware of the usefulness of applying balloon in some cases, it should be discussed in another paper. Compliance with ethical standards
