Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) remains a leading occupational related disease and is a serious public health problem. Hence, the identification of potential biomarkers for NIHL prevention and diagnosis has become an urgent work. To discover potential metabolic biomarkers of NIHL, plasma metabolomics analysis in 62 NIHL patients and 62 normal hearing controls was performed using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF MS). Orthogonal partial least square-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) model was applied to distinguish metabolite profile alterations in plasma samples between the two groups. The metabolites with a variable importance of projection (VIP) value1 and P value0.05 were considered to be potential metabolic biomarkers. KEGG database was performed to explore the involved pathways of potential biomarkers. Three autophagy-related genes (PI3K, AKT, and ATG5) were selected for further verification, and mRNA levels were detected using RT-qPCR analysis. Twenty plasma metabolites with VIP1 and P0.05 were significantly altered between the two groups. Totally, seven metabolic pathways involving the glycerophospholipid metabolism, glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchor biosynthesis, autophagy pathway, choline metabolism, the alpha-linolenic acid metabolism and linoleic acid metabolism, and retrograde endocannabinoid pathway were significantly related to NIHL. Furthermore, verification by RT-qPCR suggested that the mRNA expression levels of PI3K and AKT along with ATG5 were significantly lower in the NIHL patients compared with controls. In summary, the present study provides the first evidence that the identified aberrantly altered metabolites may be the potentially valuable biomarkers of NIHL for occupational noise-exposed workers. Autophagy signal pathway may be involved in the occurrence and development of NIHL. Moreover, this present study may be helpful to further better understand the metabolic changes in NIHL and be helpful for the understanding of pathogenic mechanism.

Our aim was to analyze the effects of benzene exposure on hematotoxicity in workers, with a focus on gender differences. The study was divided into three parts, and the survey included 218,061 workers. Since 2017, some workers are selected from the total workers each year to explore the possible influencing factors (age, duration of benzene exposure, TWA (8-h time-weighted average) of benzene, SPMA (S-phenylmercapturic acid), MDA (malondialdehyde), 8-OHdG (8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine) of different hematotoxicity of different genders). The abnormal rate of WBC (white blood cell), ANC (absolute neutrophil count), and platelets of female workers in the benzene exposure group was higher than that of males in the benzene exposure group and also higher than that of the female workers in the control group. Research results in 2019 showed increased SPMA as well as increases their DNA damage including 8-OHdG and MDA in benzene-exposed female workers compared to those in the control female group (all p < 0.05. SPMA, 8-OHdG, and MDA in benzene exposure female workers increased 555%, 183%, and 33.3%, respectively). Female workers are at significantly higher risk for blood system effects of benzene exposure. Therefore, more stringent standards and guidelines may be needed to protect the changing professional population, especially for females.

This study intended to explore the effect of C-Jun N-terminal kinases 1 (JNK1) polymorphisms on the sensitivity of individual hearing loss. A total of 1333 subjects, including 683 NIHL workers and 650 normal-hearing workers from east China, were included in this cross-sectional study. Genotyping of three JNK1 single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs9284, rs8428, and rs11598320) was performed. The relationship between different genotypes and noise-induced hearing loss was analyzed. Results show that rs11598320 TT genotype was associated with a higher risk of NIHL (OR 1.57, 95% CI 0.91–2.70). Stratified analysis indicated that the rs11598320 AT + AA genotype was associated with a decreased risk of hearing loss in subjects exposed to noise ≤ 16 years or a noise level > 92 dB (OR 0.68, 95% CI 0.50–0.93 and OR 0.64, 95% CI 0.42–0.96, respectively). The rs8428 TT genotype was associated with an increased risk of noise-induced hearing loss when the noise level was > 92 dB (OR 1.73, 95% CI 1.11–2.70). Haplotype TCT (rs9284–rs8424–rs11598320) was associated with an increased risk of noise-induced hearing loss (OR 1.30, 95% CI 1.00–1.68). Single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs11598320 and rs8424) in JNK1 can be used as new biomarkers of susceptibility for noise-induced hearing loss in Chinese workers.

This study investigated the relationship between genetic polymorphisms in the FAS gene and noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) risk among Chinese workers exposed to occupational noise, and the molecular mechanism of NIHL caused by noise. In this case-control study, 692 NIHL workers and 650 controls were selected for genotyping of four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the FAS gene. Logistic regression was used to calculate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of the association of these genetic polymorphisms and NIHL. At the same time, a noise-exposed rat model was constructed to further clarify the effect of noise exposure on fas gene expression and the pathogenic mechanism of NIHL. Two polymorphisms, rs1468063 and rs2862833, were associated with NIHL in the case-control study. Individuals with the rs1468063-TT or rs2862833-AA genotypes had decreased NIHL risk (p < 0.01, p = 0.02, respectively). Compared with the control group, the hearing threshold of the case group of rats increased, while serum MDA, urine 8-OHdG, and fas gene expression increased, but let-7e expression decreased. Genetic polymorphisms in the FAS gene are related to the risk of NIHL in the Chinese population. Noise can cause a large amount of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the cochlea tissue and blood, which lead to oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, and DNA damage, further activating the FAS gene, and ultimately leading to hearing loss.

Background Benzene, an important component of organic solvents, is commonly used in industry. Meanwhile, benzene is a human carcinogen leading to leukemia. Although the links between benzene and various types of genetic damage indicators have been evaluated in several studies, but their results remain inconsistent. So we conducted a meta-analysis, and to explore the influence of low concentration benzene exposure on workers’ genetic damage indicators using 3.25 mg/m3 as the boundary value, in order to provide a basis for improved prevention and control of the harm from benzene exposure to the occupational population. Methods We conducted a search of five databases, including Pub Med, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wan Fang Data and Chongqing VIP, to identify relevant articles up to December 25, 2018. Two researchers independently extracted and evaluated the data according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the literature. The imported articles were managed by Endnote X7, and the data were extracted and sorted by Excel 2013. We utilized Stata 12.0 software to perform the meta-analysis in the present study. Results A total of 68 eligible articles were finally included for the synthetic analyses. The meta-analysis results showed that occupational benzene exposure led to significantly increased Micronucleus (MN) frequency, Sister chromatid exchange (SCE) frequency, Chromosome aberration (CA) frequency, Olive Tail moment (OTM), Tail moment (TM), Tail length (TL), and Tail DNA% (T DNA%) compared to the control group (P P Conclusions Occupational benzene exposure can affect multiple genetic damage indicators. Even at an exposure concentration lower than 3.25 mg/m3, benzene exposure has genotoxicity. These data provide an important scientific basis for the further revision of occupational disease prevention strategies. At the same time, increased attention should be focused on the health monitoring of the occupational population exposed to benzene, and health management should be strengthened to improve the health of the occupational population.

This study was conducted to estimate the current prevalence of hypertension, cardiovascular condition and hearing difficulty of workers exposure to occupational noise, and to analyze any associations between these abnormal signs and occupational noise exposure. The subjects included 5205 noise-exposed workers. Workers with high noise exposure were more likely to have a higher threshold value than low exposure ones (P Adjusted OR = 1.59, 95% CI, 1.19–2.11) and hearing loss (Adjusted OR = 1.28, 95% CI, 1.03–1.60) when comparing to low-level noise exposure. In male workers, the prevalence of hearing difficulty in high exposure group was approximately 1.2 times worse than in low group (P = 0.006). In addition, exposure to high noise level demonstrated a significant association with hypertension and hearing loss when the duration time to occupational noise was longer than 10 years. Hypertension and hearing difficulty is more prevalent in the noise-exposed group (higher than 85 dB[A]). Steps to reduce workplace noise levels and to improve workplace-based health are thus urgently needed.

Noise-induced-hearing-loss(NIHL) is a common occupational disease caused by various environmental and biological factors. To investigate the association between TAB2 and the susceptibility of NIHL of people exposed to occupational environments, a genetic association study was performed on selected companies with 588 cases and 537 healthy control subjects. Five selected single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TAB2,incoluding rs2744434, rs521845, rs652921, rs7896, rs9485372, were genotyped after a collection of DNA samples. Evident differences in participants between the case group and the control group reveals the result that people with the TAB2 has a high probability of getting NIHL. The results show that rs521845 is deeply associated with the risk of NIHL and is available for the diagnosis in the future.

Background With an estimated > 800,000 suicide-related deaths and potentially several attempts for each death in the world. The purpose of this study was to determine the epidemiological characteristics of self-poisoning with pesticides within the Jiangsu province in China. Methods Suicide rate was calculated the Routine Surveillance System by Jiangsu Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, stratified by gender, age and region, combined with socioeconomic and agriculture-related factors to investigate trends in suicide over the study period. A logistic regression model was used to investigate the associations between pesticide types and pesticide-related deaths. Results In recent years, Jiangsu Province has witnessed a decrease in pesticide self-poisoning cases and consequent deaths. Among all suicides by deliberate ingestion of pesticides, the proportion of cases were mainly in the age 40, accounting for 3.43% of all cases with pesticide suicide. The proportion of suicide due to pesticide poisoning in females was markedly higher than that in males (p Conclusions For national responses to be effective, the characteristics of pesticide suicides should be comprehensively investigated for the formulation of corresponding prevention strategies. At present, more pesticide suicide prevention policies for the elderly people and women should be implemented, and stronger pesticide management policies should be implemented for rural areas.

Diabetes is one of the typical chronic diseases, and its incidence is related to many environmental factors. At present, there is no radical cure for diabetes, so the prevention of diabetes is particularly important. In order to effectively prevent the occurrence of diabetes, it is necessary to understand the conditions leading to the occurrence of diabetes. Current studies have shown that long-term exposure to noise will increase the risk of diabetes. Literature was retrieved from Pubmed and Web of Science. The relationship between noise exposure and diabetes published in the past 10 years was retrieved from the literature. Two researchers screened the literatures and extracted the data according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Endnote software was used to manage the literature, and NOS (Newcastle-Ottawa Scale) scale was used to evaluate the quality of the included literatures. Random effects meta-analysis was used to comprehensively evaluate the noise exposure of diabetic patients, and stata13.1 was used for data analysis. After adherence to strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight studies on the association between noise and diabetes were selected, including five cohort studies and three cross-sectional studies, with a total of 514,570 participants and 23,708 diabetics. The results showed that exposure to noise increased the risk of developing diabetes (OR = 1.08; 95% CI = 1.03 ~ 1.12). From the analysis of these selected articles, it can be seen that there is a positive correlation between noise and the occurrence of diabetes. As a result, it is necessary to strengthen routine blood tests for people who have been exposed to noise for a long time, especially those who have to be exposed to noise due to their occupations.

Objectives.The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in 3′UTR of XPO5 gene and the occurrence of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), and to further explore the regulatory mechanism of miRNAs in NIHL on XPO5 gene. Methods.We conducted a case-control study involving 1040 cases and 1060 controls. The effects of SNPs on XPO5 expression were studied by genotyping, real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), cell transfection, and the dual-luciferase reporter assay. Results.We genotyped four SNPs (rs2257082, rs11077, rs7755135, and rs1106841) in the XPO5 gene. The rs2257082 AG/GG carriers have special connection to an increased risk of noise-induced hearing loss compared to the AA carriers. The rs11077TG/GG carriers had a significantly increased association with NIHL susceptibility than the TT carriers. There was a higher risk of NIHL in the XPO5 gene rs7755135 CC carriers than in the TT carriers. No statistically significant correlation was obtained with respect to SNPrs1106841. Functional experiments showed that the rs11077 change might inhibit the interaction between miRNAs (miRNA-4763-5p, miRNA-5002-3p, and miRNA-617) and XPO5, with rs11077G allele resulting in overexpression of XPO5. Conclusion. The genetic polymorphism, rs11077, within XPO5 is associated with the risk of noise-induced hearing loss in a Chinese population.

Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a complex disease induced by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Paraoxonase2 (PON2) gene involved in the regulation of reactive oxygen species, and affecting the vulnerability of cochlea to NIHL, and ATPase, calcium-transporting, plasma membrane 2 (ATP2B2) gene which encodes plasma membrane calcium-transporting ATPase isoform 2 (PMCA2) are the candidate genes relating to the attack of NIHL. In this study, we investigated whether ATP2B2 and PON2 polymorphisms were associated with NIHL in Chinese of Han nationality population.We performed a case-control study between six single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs1719571, rs3209637 and rs4327369 within ATP2B2, rs12026, rs7785846 and rs12704796 within PON2) and NIHL in 454 subjects. All the SNPs were genotypes, using the TaqMan MGB probe assay. Odds ratios (ORs) were calculated with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) with logistic regression analysis to test the level of association for SNPs.In our study, 221 subjects with hearing loss and 233 subjects without hearing loss were recruited. The frequencies of the CG and CG + GG genotype of rs12026 (PON2) conferred risk factors for NIHL with adjusted OR values of 2.62 (95% CI, 1.69-4.06) and 2.48 (95% CI, 1.63-3.78), respectively. This kind of significance was also found at locus rs7785846, where genotypes CT and CT + TT were the risk types, with adjusted ORs of 2.52 (95% CI, 1.62-3.93) and 2.35 (95% CI, 1.54-3.58), respectively. We performed stratified analysis per noise exposure level, when it came to rs7785846 and rs12026 in the92 dB(A) noise exposure group, the subjects who carried heterozygote were of significantly (P0.01) higher susceptibility to NIHL than homozygote carriers. By contrast, no significantly higher risk was found for any rs12704796 genotypes or any genotypes in ATP2B2 (P0.05), which may suggest that these SNPs did not have significant effects on noise susceptibility across noise exposure.Our research suggested that PON2 might play a role in the etiology of NIHL in Chinese of Han nationality population.

Objectives. This study investigated the hearing loss characteristics among occupational noise exposure workers with hypertension and the link between hypertension and hearing loss when exposed to occupational noise. Methods. A total of 267,766 occupational noise-exposed workers were enrolled, including 29,868 workers with hypertension and 240,165 without hypertension. Hypertension was diagnosed according to WHO criteria. Hypertension was classified into four grades based on blood pressure. Assessment of hearing was performed through measurement of an unadulterated tone threshold at different frequencies, which ranged between 250 and 8,000 Hz. Results. A substantial link was observed to exist between hypertension and the increment in the hearing limit. The increase in the hearing threshold was substantially higher among those having grade 2 hypertension. Conclusion. The current investigation suggested patients with hypertension exhibit a substantial rise in hearing loss in comparison with patients without hypertension. The rise in hearing loss was significant in patients with grade 2 hypertension. Efficient and practicable measures are required to decrease the hearing loss in workers with hypertension and work-related noise exposure.

Background: Brucellosis, which is a zoonosis, is able to gravely infringe public health. This research work aims at presetting the epidemic of human brucellosis in Jiangsu from the year of 2006 to the year 2016, in addition to providing the proof of avoiding from brucellosis in endemic regions. Methods: A total of 410 diagnosed scenarios of human brucellosis patients were chosen on the bases of the data gathered by Chinese National Notifiable Infectious Disease Reporting System between the year of 2006 and the year of 2016 in Jiangsu province. The use of geographic information system was made for the identification of cities at elevated threat of the ailment. Space-Time Scan Statistic was put to application for detecting the space-time clusters of human brucellosis. Results: The reported occurrence rate exhibited a dramatic rise from 0.067/1,000,000 in the year 2006 to 1.793/1,000,000 in the year 2016, showing an average annual rise of 15.7%. Moreover, 4.88% cases were diagnosed in 2016, exhibiting a sharp rise in the quantity of cases this year. The percentage of the impacted urban areas rose from 0.08% in the year 2006 to 100% in the year 2016. Background: Glyphosate is a widely used herbicide in the world. Coronary artery disease (CAD) has been recognized as widespread causes of death and disability. In our study, we aimed to investigate the difference in results of health examination among people whether exposed to glyphosate or not. Methods: We recruited workers from glyphosate production line as the exposed group and workers without doing pesticide production as the non-exposed group. All the participants have taken health examination as well as finished personal health questionnaires. A total of 42 patients with CAD were found among the return patients. Individual and fix-point samplings were performed to monitor the level of glyphosate in workplace air around the production line. Glyphosate and AMPA in the plasma were measured by gas chromatography combined with GC/MS method. The association between measured variables and the incidence of CAD was evaluated in unconditional logistic regression models. Results: The highest levels of permissible concentration-time weighted average (PC-TWA) (0.01–94.59 mg/m 3 ) and permissible concentration-short term exposure limit (PC-STEL) (0.01–20 mg/m 3 ) were separately presented in the jobs like packing and drying. The average concentration of glyphosate and its metabolin aminomethylphonic acid (AMPA) 85481 in blood plasma was 9.13 and 4.20 ng/mL, respectively. Forty-two percent of glyphosate workers admitted wearing gauze mask or spectacles seldom worn when they worked. The incidence rates of hypertension, CAD, abnormal rate of ECG, total liver function index [including alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total protein (TP)] and summary of renal function index were found significantly higher in the exposed group than non-exposed group (P Conclusions: Our results suggested that glyphosate might be a potential hazard factor to CAD.
