The objectives of this study were to describe the translation quality in Bound novel. This study followed the theory of Nababan et.al (2012) about the three aspects of translation quality namely (1) accuracy; (2) acceptability; and (3) readability. This research uses descriptive qualitative method as the research design. The data of this study were gathered by using the documents and questionnaire by the raters. The results analysis from the raters showed that translation quality in Bound novel were less accurate with the average points around 2.75, acceptable with the average points around 2.92 and readable with the average points around 3.0. The purpose of this study is to describe the errors in simple past tense of recount text. In addition, this study is also aimed to describe the causes of those errors. This study apllied the descriptive qualitative approach of which the data were obtained from the recount texts that were written by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Doloksanggul. The data were collected by using students’ recount texts and interview. The data then were analyzed by identifying the errors first, then describing the errors, and the last explaining the errors. The errors that occurred in students’ recount text are error of omission, error of mis-formation, error of addition and error of mis-ordering. The result of the study indicates that the students made 893 of simple past tense errors which were 0,45% errors of misordering, 3,58% errors of addition, 30,12% errors of omission, and 65,85% errors of mis-formation. The dominant type of errors made by the student is errors of mis-formation. The students’ errors were caused by 36,17% intralingual interference, 58,23% interlingual interference, and 5,6% communication strategies.

This research was to analyze the process of spelling adjustment of naturalization applied in translation of English accounting terms into Indonesian . The objective of the study was to find out the Process of spelling adjustment of naturalization were used by accounting terms. This research used a descriptive and qualitative method. The data of this study were words containing naturalization were taken from the translation of selected articles of accounting textbook, Accounting 21e (2008). The data were collected through documentary technique . The data analysis was concerned of the implementation of spelling adjustment of naturalization. The findings show that naturalization in English-Indonesian accounting terms occurred in three categories, namely grapheme, and syllabic adapatation (double consonant become single consonant and consonant inhibitory. The products of naturalization have followed the guidance yet several new adjustment standards need to be included to enrich the pattern of foreign term adoption. In addition, this study recommends that proess of absorption in the Indonesian guidance of term formation needs to be revisited in order to precisely classify how foreign terms spelling adjustment is made in the Indonesian language Keyword s: Naturalization, Translation Procedure, Accounting Terms, Spelling Adjustment

In today’s world, s hopping on Instagram is quickly becoming the preferred way for consumers to not only learn about new brands and products on Instagram, but also purchase them in just a few simple steps . One of the top issues of online shopping is its security concerns. Online shopping fraud is one of a cybercrime which often occurs lately. Fraudsters usually manipulate their victims through their language used . In order to manipulate their victim, a fraud should be able to use the speech function or linguistic function in the proper context of conversation to build trust of their victim . This study was aimed at investigating the speech function used by online shopping frauds on Instagram . This research was conducted in a qualitative research. The data were clauses consist of speech functions used by online shopping frauds on instagram . Five chats of online shopping fraudsters with their victims taken from Indonesia Online Shop Blacklist has taken as data sources by using purposive sampling. In order to identify the types of speech functions used by the fraudster , Halliday’s theory of Interpersonal Function was used. The findings showed that the types of speech functions found used by online shopping frauds in instagram are statement, question, command, and minor. In which statement is more often used by fraudster in instagram , followed by command, question and minor. It indicates that the fraudster use statement for giving information about the product which they sell, they also tend to use statement to answer the questions from the consumer about their product, delivery process, payment method, etc. Keywords: Speech Functions, Fraudster, Instagram, Online Shopping, Discourse

This research aim to design English speaking materials needed for students of electrical engineering study program at SMK Sinar Husni Medan. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R & D) design through six stages; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing materials, validating by experts, revising, and final product.The subject of this study were students of class X-l2 of electrical engineering study program consisting of 38 students. The instrumentations for collecting the data were questionnaire and interview. After analyzing the data, the writer got the students’ needs. The data were gathered by administering interview to the English teacher and distributing the questionnaire to 38 respondents to get the students’needs. The interview and questionnaire results prove that the students need English reading materials which contain English for electrical engineering study program. Thus, The materials were then developed through Contextual Teaching and Learning approach which implementation by REACT (relating, experiencing, applying, cooperating, and transferring) and developed with their study program and work life situation. The learning materials were developed into 6 units of speaking material. by two experts; English lecturer and English teacher. The average scores are 4,5 or 90% from English Lecturer and 4,4 or 87,6% from English teacher.It means the developing materials categorized as relevant or appropriate for grade X students of electrical engineering study program. The objective of this study were (1) to describe types of phrasal verbs occurring in translating Breaking Dawn Novel (2) to describe procedures are used in translating Breaking Dawn Novel (3) to find out the most dominant phrasal verbs and procedures used in translating Breaking Dawn Novel. The data were phrasal verbs obtained from clause of Breaking Dawn novel. This research applied qualitative research design. The data were collected through documentary technique. The findings of this study showed that: 1) All of phrasal verbs were found in Breaking Dawn novel, they are type 1, type 2, type 3 and type 4, 2) there were six procedures used in translating phrasal verbs, they are Calque (8 data), Literal translation (35 data), transposition (107 data), modulation (82 data), equivalence (11 data), and Adaptation (3 data), 3) the dominant phrasal verbs occurred in Breaking Dawn novel was type 3 and the dominant procedures used in translating Breaking Dawn novel was transposition procedure. This study was aimed at finding out the effect of using Predict,Locate,Add,Note (PLAN) Strategy on the Students’ Reading Comprehension of Argumentative Texts. This study ased the experimental design. The population of this study was the students of SMA Negeri 14 Medan. There were sixty students as the sample of research. This study was conductedwith two randomized group. Namely experimental and control group. The experimental group was taught by Predict,Locate,Add,Note (PLAN) Strategy while control group was taught without Predict,Locate,Add,Note (PLAN) Strategy. The instrument of collecting the data was multiple choice test which consists of 25 items. To obtain the reliability of the test, the researcher used Kuder Richardson (KR-20) formula. The calculation shows the reliability is 0.83 (very high). The data were analyzed by using t-test. The calculation show that t-observed (6.5) is higher than t-table (2.00) at the evel of significance (x)0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 58. Therefore, the null hyphothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hyphotesis(Ha) is accepted. It means that teaching reading comprehension of argumentative texts by Predict, Locate, Add, Note (Plan) Strategy has more significant effect than teaching reading comprehension of argumentative texts without Predict, Locate, Add, Note (PLAN) Strategy.

This study is concerned with the use of speech acts in The Apprentice Asia TV program. The objectives of this study were to describe , to explain the types of speech acts used by the host, advisors and contestants of The Apprentice Asia , and the reasons . The findings of this study showed that all types of speech acts, namely representative, directive, commissive, expressive and decalarative were used by the host and contestants, while the advisors did not use expressive and declarative. The dominant type of speech act used by the host was directive, while the advisors and contestants dominantly used representative speech act. The participants performed them by direct, indirect, literal and non-literal way. There were some reasons of using types of speech acts used by all participants. In order to get information from other participants about the performances of the contestants in running the task, type of speech acts used by the host was directive in the form of questioning. On the other hand, the advisors and contestants were the participants whose informations required by the host. Therefore, in responding what the host asked to them, they performed their speech acts through representative in the forms of informing. Key words : Apprentice Asia; Speech Acts;and TV program.

This study investigated the effect of using mind mapping strategy on the students’ achievement in writing procedure text. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research was grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Merbau Labura divided into two groups, namely experimental and control group. The experimental group was taught by using mind mapping strategy, while the control group was taught by using lecturing method. The instruments used to collect the data was writing procedure text. After the data were analyzed, it was found that the value of t-observed was 2.764 with the degree of freedom (df)= 58 at the level of significance 0.05. It means that t-observed was higher than t-table (2.764 >2.000). The result of this study showed that teaching procedure text by using mind mapping strategy was higher than that by using lecturing method. It implies that mind mapping strategy is appropriate to be applied for writing procedure text.
