UK lawyers have set up a number of initiatives designed to encourage people to make a will. These include the charity Will Aid, which runs an annual month-long period during which lawyers will draw up a will free of charge in return for a 40 pounds sterling donation to charity. Some observers have expressed doubts about this initiative, as they feel that many of the wills drafted will be the most basic sort, whereas some clients may have actually required more specific advice.

Law firms charge from 50 pounds sterling to write a will in the United kingdom, though prices charged in London tend to be higher. Lawyers argue that this is cheaper than making a mistake with a will, and law firms can make more money from wills that are badly drawn than from drafting wills. Lawyers should be used to reduce inheritance tax bills. People who write their own wills should have simple affairs. Witnesses should not be from among beneficiaries, and an executor should be chosen.

The Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Stiftung, a foundation formed according to the will of German businessman Alfried Krupp, who died in 1967, is facing legal action from Krupp's siblings and his descendents. They are seeking seats on the board of the foundation, which has been managed since its creation by Berthold Beitz, a closer adviser to Krupp. There are complicated legal issues involved in whether Krupp's relatives are entitled to share in a business empire now worth 1.33 billion pounds sterling.
