An examination to determine whether companies located on university science parks in the United Kingdom have higher research productivity than observationally equivalent firms not located on a university science park is carried out. The results are consistent with the mentioned hypothesis and are robust to the use of alternative econometric procedures to assess relative productivity.

A research paper aims to contribute to the escalating debate regarding the distinctions between the formation, survival and growth of new manufacturing and the growing number of producer service ventures. The paper analyzed the characteristics and the background of the owner manager, the characteristics of the business created and the owner-manager's perception of the environment during start-up. The paper concludes that there are more similarities than differences in the characteristics of 'manufacturing' businesses compared to 'producer services' businesses in terms of new business founders and new business performance and growth.
