New advanced construction technologies have been gaining traction in the construction industry. Because using advanced technologies and tools ensures more accuracy. It implies that more precise measurements for the foundations, perimeters or corners and more in depth charting of existing structures, all of which contributes greatly to creating and offering buildings of high quality. This research aims to quantify the impact of construction technologies success criteria on customer satisfaction (or real estate developers) among residential real-estate developers. The study employed Kano Quality Model (KQM) to achieve research objective. The research starts by identifying the critical criteria of the construction technologies that have impact on the customer requirements and satisfaction. The gaps and the shortcomings between the customer requirements and the capability of the construction technologies are the opportunities of improvement of the construction technologies in the construction sector. Therefore, this research enables manufactures to evaluate their new construction technologies before lunching it in the market and identifying the shortcomings of their technologies as the opportunities of improvement to enhance its success. Results showed that the criterion “Reducing the need for storage area for materials and equipment on site” has the most impact on the customer satisfaction, but its impact on the customer dissatisfaction is negligible. The criteria “Increasing safety on site”, “Reducing the Cost” and “Reducing time” have the most impact on the customer dissatisfaction. Although, construction technologies are promising, but it is still below expectations and needs development in some areas in order to become a practical and widely accepted strategy.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has emerged as a transformative technology in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, with increasing application in civil infrastructure projects. This study comprehensively reviews the research landscape of BIM applications in civil infrastructure through bibliometric analysis. Based on data from the Web of Science database, 646 relevant papers published between 2020 and 2024 were collected, and 416 papers were selected for in-depth analysis after screening. Using bibliometric methods, the analysis reveals the evolution of research trends, identifies key contributors and influential publications, and maps the knowledge structure of the field. Our study shows a significant increase in research output over the past five years, particularly in studies focusing on the integration of BIM with emerging technologies such as Digital Twins, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Machine Learning. The results indicate that the United States, China, and the United Kingdom lead in terms of research output and citation impact. Additionally, based on clustering results and representative keywords, several key research clusters were identified, including BIM in infrastructure lifecycle management, BIM collaboration in large-scale projects, and BIM for sustainable infrastructure design.

Sustainability is defined as meeting the demands of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This study focuses on the sustainable construction strategies used in the Kingdom of Bahrain in terms of sustainable construction technologies and management strategy linked to the environment and the significant relationship between the management strategy and construction technologies used for sustainable building construction. This study employed the descriptive-correlational method of research using a questionnaire for gathering data about the sustainable construction strategies used in Bahrain. The data gathered were analyzed using the weighted mean and Pearson's correlation coefficient to determine the degree of correlation between construction technologies and management strategy. SPSS software was used in the calculation. Results show that management strategy linked to the environment is often practiced in around 75% of all projects delivered while general sustainable construction methods, energy and material-based techniques, and waste-based techniques are sometimes utilized in around 50% of all the building projects delivered. In addition, the utilization of these sustainable construction technologies is the result of a management strategy linked to the environment which the respondents rated as often practiced for all projects that were delivered. This implies that management strategy in protecting the environment in Bahrain is often practiced in construction for 75% of the projects. From the results of the study, a model of sustainable building construction in the Kingdom of Bahrain was derived to achieve sustainable building construction. This includes the management strategies needed by the different stakeholders like construction firms and government agencies to carry out the implementation of sustainable construction and sustainable construction techniques (e.g., waste management, insulating materials, building envelope with thermal properties, building management system, and efficient fixtures). With the continuous development of the construction technology of the main structure of high-rise buildings, traditional construction techniques have been widely used in high-rise building projects. However, these technologies have problems such as low safety, low intelligence, and poor integrity. In order to solve these challenges, the Third Engineering Bureau of China Construction independently developed a new type of construction technology—a high-rise building integrated work construction platform (referred to as a building machine). Building machines has been gradually applied to high-rise building projects due to its intelligence, integration, safety, and other advantages. However, with the increase in the number of high-rise building projects, the traditional way of designing building machine layout programs is inefficient and the design program is complicated to change. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a building machine parametric design and layout and virtual simulation method. This method uses Blender open-source software to model the building machine parametrically and quickly using its visual programming tool Geometry Nodes (GN) and simulates the building machine in the virtual scene through the Unity3D platform. The results show that, compared with the traditional design mode, the method proposed in this paper can quickly complete the scheme design in the design phase of the building machine and display it through the 3D model, which has a better visualization effect, improves the design efficiency, and reduces the design cost, and the Unity simulation platform can also provide the construction personnel with pre-shift education and simulation of the operation of the building machine. This method provides a theoretical basis and guidance for the digital construction of the building machine.

This paper explores the lifting project of a steel structure corridor in the Haiyue Center, Quanzhou City, with a focus on mechanical response, safety, stability, and construction guidance under wind load conditions. The investigation attends to safety apprehensions stemming from the absence of horizontal constraints within the corridor, rendering it vulnerable to wind-induced loads. Measures are implemented to prevent collisions with nearby buildings during lifting. Stability challenges, including beam displacement and excessive stress, are examined. Anti-deformation trusses and inclined web rods are employed to ensure stability, prevent potential instabilities, and promote uniform deformation. The study also analyzes stress during asynchronous lifting. Through the enforcement of stringent parameters, where asynchronous displacement is confined to a maximum of 25 mm and asynchronous lifting load is limited to 20%, the structural integrity of the corridor is meticulously upheld. This judicious approach serves to not only avert deformation but also to forestall structural impairment. Therefore, the significance of stress distribution and deformation is emphasized when conducting the integral lifting of steel structure corridor between two super-tall buildings under wind load conditions. Simultaneously, relevant construction control measures have been devised, along with offering scientific recommendations for similar cases involving lifting construction processes under the influence of wind.

This paper presents a novel design for uplift piles incorporating a composite-anchor system. The composite-anchor system consists of steel strands, a non-expansion grouting body, and a high-strength steel pile. The aim of this design is to enhance the mechanical performance, durability, and economic efficiency of uplift piles. To evaluate the performance of the new pile, three sets of full-scale load tests were conducted, focusing on their in situ capacity, deformation, and stress characteristics. Despite a significantly lower reinforcement ratio of 0.75% compared to conventional piles with a ratio of 3.84%, the new uplift piles exhibit an exceptional uplift bearing performance. The utilization of the lateral friction resistance of the lower pile body is significantly improved, leading to enhanced load distribution and stress transfer mechanisms. Furthermore, a numerical model was developed and validated against the experimental results, demonstrating its reliability in simulating the bearing characteristics of the new uplift piles. The multi-interface design of the composite-anchor system ensures the efficient transmission of internal forces induced by external uplift loads, resulting in an improved stress state within the pile body. Moreover, the multi-layer structure of the composite main bar enhances the durability of the uplift piles. In comparison to conventional piles, the new uplift pile design offers substantial advantages, including an 80% reduction in reinforcement ratio, a 65% reduction in reinforcement cage welding, a cost reduction of approximately 30%, and a shortened construction time by around 20%. These findings highlight the potential of the new composite-anchor-pile design to revolutionize the field of uplift pile applications, offering improved efficiency and effectiveness.

An effective strategy for sustainable development is to conduct research on vernacular architecture in response to urbanisation as well as environmental and climate change challenges. However, focused discussion has been limited to date due to the diverse range of disciplines involved in vernacular architecture and the unique examples in practice. Scopus, one of the largest literature databases, was used to find and select a total of 1403 documents for this paper. Techniques for both quantitative and qualitative literature analysis were employed using Microsoft Excel (Version 16.75.2) and the visualisation tool VOSviewer (Version 1.6.19). Using bibliometric analysis, more academic publications were reviewed, aiming to analyse the current situation, influence, and future direction of the literature related to vernacular architecture. The current issues have been obtained from the statistical results, and the opportunities and challenges of vernacular architecture in today’s cities are discussed. The twenty most frequently referenced publications, keywords, and correlations between co-occurrences were all examined in this bibliometric analysis, along with annual publishing trends and the most influential nations, institutions, sources, and authors. The analysis showed a rising trend in vernacular architectural publications, with China, Italy, and Spain being the most prolific nations whose institutions have a high academic impact. However, the degree of international author collaboration remains insignificant. Future themes could focus on energy, comfort, earthquake resilience, and sustainability, with cultural heritage and vernacular communities still receiving little research attention. This study is a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of vernacular architecture, as well as an important study of sustainability and resilience, affirming the importance of vernacular architecture in terms of future urban form and drawing on the lessons of history. Also, the proposed research framework could be a strong reference for future researchers looking for inspiration.

The bell tower of Nanking University, built in 1888, is a milestone of modern educational architecture in Nanjing. It fully introduced Western architectural concepts and is an important historical witness to the cultural exchange between China and the West. At present, there are few studies on the conservation and reuse of the building, so the authors conducted the project. In this paper, we conducted research by combining qualitative and quantitative methods. The qualitative analysis includes analyses of historical maps, photos, text, surveys, mapping of buildings, and a comparative analysis. The quantitative analysis includes statistics on the distribution of the urban school architectural heritage, the number of buildings at Nanking University, and China’s school building design standards. Through the historical research and value analysis of the building, we explore its real information from the aspects of architectural style, space, structure, material, and construction technology, and propose a reasonable conservation method. According to the current urban planning policy and architectural heritage data, the functional upgrading and renovation of the building will be carried out. This paper explores authenticity and integrity-based restoration methods, as well as the adaptive-reuse strategy for China’s architectural heritage, which can provide a paradigm for regional development and historic campus renewal.

This paper introduces a new type of prestressed uplift pile that adopts the semi-bonded composite anchor as the main reinforcement. An in-situ experimental study was carried out to investigate the new pile’s deformation, stress, bearing capacity, and cracking characteristics, which were then compared with the conventional piles. Results show that although the reinforcement ratio of the new pile is only 0.75%, much less than that of the conventional pile (i.e., 3.84%), it achieves similar or even better mechanical properties under uplift loads. The cost of the pile’s anchorage system is reduced by 43.8%, and the total cost of a single pile is reduced by 33.6%. Compared with the conventional pile, the new pile makes better use of the lateral friction resistance of the lower pile body, and the uplift bearing capacity and the uplift resistance of the pile are improved correspondingly. In addition, the cracking resistance of the new pile is significantly improved, with the cracking load increased by 88.2% and the cracking area reduced by 48.3%. In addition, the multi-layer structure of the composite main bar provides better protection for the load-bearing steel strands against corrosion. As such, the new type of pile is expected to gain much better durability than the conventional ones.

The research on solid waste based soft soil solidifying materials has received extensive attention in recent years. However, the properties of deep mixing piles are significantly affected by the construction technology. In view of this, this work carried out the systematic study on the influence of materials, the mixing tool and process optimization on the integrity and mechanical properties of deep mixing piles. Factors considered include the shape of the blade (strip and meniscus), the types of solidifying materials (PO 42.5 cement, self-developed soft soil solidifying agent), the content (50 kg/m, 65 kg/m, 80 kg/m and 100 kg/m) and how many times the materials needed to be mixed (two, four and six times). The solidification mechanism was analyzed. The results showed that the utilization of a meniscus blade contributed to the excellent integrity of the deep mixing pile, as well as solved the problems of oozing slurry and wrapped blade during construction. Mixing the materials four times is the most suitable for the construction of deep mixing piles in organic clay. The solidifying agent deep mixing pile showed satisfactory early and late strength. Microscopic analysis showed that more calcium silicate hydrate and ettringite formed in the solidifying agent solidified soil. Organic clay particles were better cemented and pores were fully filled, so that the solidified soil showed an integral and dense structure. The microscopically integral and dense structure contributed to the excellent integrity and mechanical properties of the solidifying agent deep mixing pile.

Adoption of digital information tools in the construction sector provides fertile ground for the birth and growth of companies that specialize in applications of technologies to design and construction. While some of the technologies are new, many implement ideas proposed in construction research decades ago that were impractical without a sound digital building information foundation. Building Information Modelling (BIM) itself can be traced to a landmark paper from 1975; ideas for artificially intelligent design and code checking tools date from the mid-1980s; and construction robots have laboured in research labs for decades. Yet only within the past five years has venture capital actively sought startup companies in the ‘Construction Tech’ sector. Following a set of digital construction innovations through their known past and their uncertain present, we review their increasingly optimistic future, all through the lens of their dependence on digital information. The review identifies new challenges, yielding a set of research topics with the potential to unlock a range of future applications that apply artificial intelligence.

The aim of this research is to develop a methodology for calculating the standard time using neural networks. The paper presents research questions and proposes a methodology. In addition, the methods used to calculate the standard time in the Czech Republic and in other parts of the world are presented, and the basics of the mathematics of neural networks are shortly explained. The paper also provides an example that represents a simple application of a neural network. This example is designed to confirm some assumptions and to arrive at the basic conclusions regarding the operation of models created using neural networks.

The increased number of energy efficiency requirements of the European Union has increased the renovation rate of apartment buildings. The external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) is often used to upgrade the façade. However, the construction process shortcomings very often cause defects shortly after completion. This paper develops a technical⁻economic relevance assessment model of the onsite degradation factors for better quality assurance in an SME. The model quantifies the technical significance of the degradation factors along with the future repair costs. The technical severity of 103 factors is evaluated by 12 experts, and the data is validated with the Friedman’s test. The occurrence ratio, detectability, and latency period are foreseen by five experts and validated with the Delphi technique. The results of the three sample simulations emphasize the activities during substrate preparation and application of adhesive as well as a base coat with reinforcement mesh. The application of a finishing coat and installation of insulation plates have less relevance. It is recommended to upskill the craftsmen in regard to working with mixtures as the shortcomings are covered simultaneously and the failure detection period is short. The measures to protect against external weather effects are recommended due to their relatively high impact. Half of the shortcomings appear during the first two years.

The article presents the most important turning points in the development of the construction of apartment buildings in Slovenia. Urban planning, architecture and technology has, until recently, reflected foreign influences that have reached Slovenia with a delay. Significant turning points are also visible in economic organisation. The construction of apartment buildings is the only type of construction that is regulated, stimulated and (partly) also organised by the state.

This paper deals with the historical and current trends in the development of civil engineering and construction technologies. The authors demonstrate the continuity of creative thought and effort among early master builders and technology developers throughout the history of civilizations that created the most iconic structures remaining in the world heritage of the built environment to the contemporary times. Recent concepts and ongoing efforts in the development of advanced construction technologies based on automation and information sciences, materials science and systems engineering are highlighted in the context of historical ideas and achievements of past architects and construction engineers of the past century.
