The article reports on rubber policy in postwar United States, readjustment of the rubber market in Southeastern Asia after the defeat of Japan, and outlook for the American synthetic rubber industry in peacetime. The limited production capacity of manufacturers is blamed for an imbalance in the supply and demand for rubber products. A government intervention program to promote market equilibrium has four elements: subsidies, international rubber studies, international agreements, and buffer stocks. Statistics are for aggregate world requirements for rubber, production in the Malaysian rubber plantation industry, crude rubber exports, international competition, and price policy for natural and synthetic rubber.
