Alexandrian Boubasteion, the temple of the syncretic Greek-Egyptian goddess Boubastis (Bastet-Artemis -- the patroness of pregnant women, childbirth and small children), was discove- red in 2009--2010. One of the most interesting inds made on the territory of the temple are the Greek and Egyptian foundation plaques. The founder of the temple, indicated in the texts of the plaques, was the Ptolemaic queen, Berenice II, the wife of Ptolemy III (246--222 BC). In particu- lar, this is indicated by the naming of the queen as "daughter of Re", the identiication of King Ptolemy as her "brother and husband" and accompanying the name of the latter with the wish "living forever, beloved of Ptah". The researchers came to the right conclusion that Boubasteion was founded in 244--243 BC. This can be deducted from the texts of the plaques which mention that Ptolemy and Berenice had more than one child, but don't mention the cult epiclesis of the royal couple, "gods-Euergetes". I believe that Berenice founded Boubasteion directly on the occasion of the birth of the heir to the Alexandrian throne -- the future Ptolemy IV. I agree with Ch. Bennett and B. van Oppen de Ruiter that above-mentioned prince was the second child in the family and was born in the middle of 244 BC. The additional arguments in fa- vor of this assumption are: the absence of mentioning birth of the prince in the poem "Lock of Berenice" by Callimachus, and the journey of the royal family to the island Philae (dated 244/243 BC), which was an all-Egyptian presentation of the future pharaoh. At the same time, the foundation of the Alexandrian Boubasteion by Berenice and the foundation of the chapel of Isis and Harpocrates on Philae by the royal family probably acted as a pair of expressions of gratitude to the gods for the birth of the son. The inal touch in the dating of the Berenice's Boubasteion is Bastet-festivals -- Boubasteia th that were conducted in Egypt and happened on the 4--8 August in 244 BC. We have witnessed that empires, states and principalities achieve political goals such as alliances, political reconciliation, and ending wars, by marriages for throughout the history of humanity. Some marriages have led to feelings such as passion, animosity and eventually even wars, between the parties. We come across the example of marriage that led to passion, enmity and wars and that we consider worth investigating for this reason in the period of Western Anatolian principalities too. In this study, how the influence, status and alliance, which is tried to be achieved through a marriage event shaped around actors and figurants such as Aydınoğlu Cuneyd Bey and his daughter, Bayezid Pasha who was Ottoman governor, his brother Hamza Bey and Cuneyd Bey's freed slave Abdullah, are reversed/turned and turned into hostility and then a conflict. In chapter 57 of Roughing It, Mark Twain extols his experience of the West in terms that are at once highly idealized and strangely skewed: "It was a wild, free, disorderly, grotesque society! Only swarming hosts of stalwart men—nothing juvenile, nothing feminine, visible anywhere!" This description, however memorable, is also blatantly false. The 1860 federal census records 111 women in Virginia City and Gold Hill, "83 of whom were living with their husbands... and caring for more than 100 children." Clemens's cognizance of this fact is reflected in the circumstances of his own brother Orion, who, within a year of their 1861 arrival, was joined in Carson City by his wife and daughter, as well as in his reporting for the Virginia City Enterprise. In 1731 Lady Grisell Baillie began a tour through Europe to Naples with her husband, two daughters, son-in-law and eldest granddaughter. Prompted by an order abroad for her son-in-law's health, the journey to and from Naples took in cultural sites and offered unique opportunities for shopping. In 1756 Margaret Calderwood of Polton similarly set out for Europe with her husband and young sons on a journey to see her exiled brother, which offered invaluable opportunities for social observation and purchasing delftware, or so Margaret hoped. Superficially they were elite women joining their families on an excursion abroad. In a challenge to simplifications of identity, this paper reviews their journeys through contexts of formative experiences, national allegiance and preconceptions around female skillsets. It identifies the everyday impact of politics, and why eighteenth-century women were as critical in developing generational national character as the patriarchal state to which they were subject. The main function of Hellenistic queenship is increasingly understood as contributing to the definition of the basileus. The early Ptolemies produced the most peculiar version of the 'sister queen', known throughout the Near East as an ideological construct, but taken literally in Egypt from the time of Ptolemy II Philadelphos (285/282–246) and Arsinoe II Philadelphos (278/275–270), the 'Sibling-Lovers'. The most famous example of a 'virgin queen' is Berenike, the daughter of Ptolemy III Euergetes and Berenike II, best known from the Kanopos Decree, which regulated her posthumous cult (238). Often understood as a merely honorary title for some or potentially all princesses in Alexandria, the basilissa title of unmarried girls has found little scholarly attention so far. Altogether, there are surprisingly few royal daughters for whom we have clear evidence: besides the aforesaid Berenike, her sister Arsinoe III (died 204) and previously Berenike (later known as Phernophoros, died 246), the daughter of the Philadelphoi. Claims that Arsinoe II or her sister Philotera had enjoyed the same status at the court of Ptolemy I Soter (323–282) cannot be substantiated, so that their basilissa titles should be explained by marriage with a king. The phenomenon of virgin queenship was thus of limited duration. It is best interpreted as a ramification of an emphatically endogamous royal dynasty: Ptolemy II and Ptolemy III pledged their most distinguished daughter to the future successor even before he had been chosen from among his brothers.
