Abstract

The article discusses the methods used to tie wythes of brick, concrete block, brick face and stud walls. It describes the English bond and Flemish bond methods of tying wythes of brickwork together. An analysis of the face bricks of a college building is presented, along with the actions taken to examine and reinstall displaced bricks on the building. The author concludes that English bond ties brickwork together more effectively than other bonds.

The article reports that Boral Bricks has launched the 50-millimeter Escura Smooth Face bricks. It features a reduced height and is available in colors of Cream, Oyster Grey, Red and Brown. Abstract

The article presents a study called "Brick & Block" from The Freedonia Group Inc. on brick consumption in the U.S. According to the study, demand for brick and block products will increase to 2.2 percent annually. Clay brick is forecast to increase annually 1.8 percent, and the demand in concrete block and brick products such as structural block will also increase. Also projected is the above-average gains of decorative concrete block and it was assumed that the fastest growth will be for products used in fences, pavements and landscapes.
