Resumo Objetivo: descrever características epidemiológicas e clínicas da monkeypox (MPX) no Brasil desde a identificação do primeiro caso, em 7 de junho de 2022, até a semana epidemiológica (SE) 39, encerrada em 1º de outubro de 2022. Métodos: estudo descritivo dos casos notificados ao Ministério da Saúde; as tendências foram analisadas sobre o número de casos confirmados e prováveis, por SE; os casos foram descritos segundo variáveis demográficas e variáveis clínicas. Resultados: das 33.513 notificações, 23,8% foram confirmadas, 91,8% eram do sexo masculino e 70,6% de homens cis com idade mediana de 32 anos; febre (58,0%), adenomegalia (42,4%), cefaleia (39,9%) e erupções (37,0%) foram os sintomas mais frequentes; 27,5% declararam ser imunossuprimidos, 34,6% viviam com HIV e 10,5% possuíam infecção sexualmente transmissível; três óbitos foram registrados. Conclusão: o perfil de casos de MPX foi semelhante ao de outros países; ações de vigilância devem ser reforçadas para o controle do surto. Resumen Objetivo: Describir las características epidemiológicas y clínicas de la viruela del mono (MPX) en Brasil, desde la identificación del primer caso, el 7 de junio de 2022, hasta la semana epidemiológica (SE) 39, finalizando el 1° de octubre de 2022. Métodos: Las tendencias de los casos notificados al Ministerio de Salud se analizaron como el número de casos notificados confirmados y probables, por SE. Los casos se describieron según variables demográficas y clínicas. Resultados: se confirmaron 33.513 notificaciones un 23,8%; 91,8% del sexo masculino; un 70,6% de hombres cis; con edad promedio de 32 años. Fiebre (58,0%), adenomegalia (42,4%), cefalea (39,9%) y exantema (37,0%) fueron los síntomas más frecuentes. Un 27,5% declaró estar inmunodeprimido, 34,6% vivía con VIH y 10,5% tenía alguna infección de transmisión sexual. Se registraron 3 muertes. Conclusión: El perfil de los casos MPX fue similar al de otros países. Se deben reforzar las acciones de vigilancia para controlar el brote. Abstract Objective: to describe epidemiological and clinical characteristics of monkeypox (MPX) in Brazil, from the identification of the first case, on June 7, 2022, to Epidemiological Week (EW) 39, ending on October 1, 2022. Methods: this was a descriptive study of cases notified to the Ministry of Health; trends were analyzed based on the number of confirmed and probable cases per EW; the cases were also described according to demographic and clinical variables. Results: out of 31,513 notifications, 23.8% were confirmed; 91.8% were male; 70.6% were cis men; and median age was 32 years. Fever (58.0%), adenomegaly (42.4%), headache (39.9%) and rash (37.0%) were the most frequent symptoms; 27.5% reported being immunosuppressed, 34.6% were living with HIV and 10.5% had a sexually transmitted infection; three deaths were recorded. Conclusion: the MPX case profile was similar to that of other countries; surveillance actions must be strengthened to control the outbreak.

To describe compulsorily notifiable diseases, health conditions and public health events (DAEs as per the Brazilian acronym) registered by the National Hospital Epidemiological Surveillance Network (RENAVEH as per the Brazilian acronym), before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.This was a descriptive ecological study using records held on the Notifiable Health Conditions Information System (SINAN as per the Brazilian acronym) between Epidemiological Week (EW) 1 of 2017 (January 1st, 2017) and 52 of 2020 (December 26, 2020).Between 2017 and 2020, RENAVEH notified 1,258,455 DAE form records, with only 225,081 (17.9%) notifications in 2020, representing a decrease of 146,340 records compared to 2019. The temporal analysis showed a decrease per EW of more than 1,000 notified records with effect from EW 12.There was a decrease in compulsorily notifiable DAEs registered by RENAVEH in Brazil taking the period analyzed as a whole, in particular in 2020.Descrever as notificações compulsórias de doenças, agravos e eventos de saúde pública (DAEs) registradas pela Rede Nacional de Vigilância Epidemiológica Hospitalar (Renaveh) do Brasil antes e durante a pandemia de COVID-19.Estudo ecológico descritivo, com registros do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (Sinan) no período correspondente às Semanas Epidemiológicas (SEs) 1 de 2017 (1º de janeiro de 2017) a 52 de 2020 (26 de dezembro de 2020).No período de 2017 a 2020, a Renaveh notificou 1.258.455 fichas de DAEs, das quais apenas 225.081 (17,9%) foram notificadas em 2020, representando um decréscimo de 146.340 registros em relação às notificações de 2019. Na análise temporal por SE, houve decréscimo maior que mil registros nas notificações a partir da SE 12.Houve decréscimo nas notificações compulsórias de DAEs registradas pela Renaveh em todo o período analisado, com destaque para o ano de 2020.Describir las notificaciones obligatorias de Enfermedades y Eventos de Salud Pública (DAEs), registradas por la Red Nacional de Vigilancia Epidemiológica Hospitalaria (RENAVEH), antes y durante la pandemia de COVID-19 e n Brasil.Estudio ecológico descriptivo, con registros del Sistema de Información de Agravamientos de Notificación (Sinan) en el período de las Semanas Epidemiológicas (SEs) 1 de 2017 (1 de enero de 2017) a 52 de 2020 (26 de diciembre de 2020).En el período 2017 a 2020, la RENAVEH notificó 1.258.455 registros de DAE, y solo se notificaron 225.081 (17,9%) registros en 2020, lo que representa una disminución de 146.340 registros con respecto a las notificaciones de 2019. En el análisis temporal por SE, hubo una disminución superior a mil registros en las notificaciones de la SE 12.Hubo una disminución en las notificaciones de DAEs registradas por la RENAVEH a lo largo del período analizado, con énfasis en el año 2020.

This study aims to estimate the prevalence of the primary occupational exposures, considered risk factors for Cancer in Brazil. We elaborated two exposure scenarios considering the agents' classification and the intensity of exposure, stratified by Brazilian regions and sex. Two pairs of specialists performed the classification of economic activities and occupations due to exposure. There was an excellent overall agreement (94%) and acceptable overall reliability (kappa 0.92, 95% CI 0.89-0.95). There is a notable difference (595%) in occupational exposure between the north (with a higher concentration of rural areas and extractivism) and southeast (with a higher level of industrial activities). There is a difference in prevalence from 833% for solvents to 1170% for inorganic dust between the two scenarios. There is a heterogeneity of exposures according to location, sex, circumstance, and sensitiveness of classification.

This article aims to contribute to a reflection on pesticides, based on the Brazilian legal framework, from the perspective of protecting human health and the environment. This initiative is due to successive attempts to flexibilize the regulation of pesticides in Brazil, through bills of law in progress in the Brazilian National Congress. An analysis of Bill of Law 3,200/2015 was carried out. This bill of law represents a major setback to the legislative achievements for the regulation of pesticides, in order to alert to the risks to human health from exposure to these products and aggravated by other similar proposals.

Water is essential for the socio-economic development of a region and also for the survival of human beings. Water scarcity has direct and indirect impacts on the environment, the economy and human health. It can change the profile of morbidity and mortality of diseases, as well as having an impact on the supply of services that are essential public to the quality of life. This study aims to contextualize the occurrence of drought in Brazil, its effects on human health, as well as actions to be developed by the health sector to reduce the risk to those living in affected areas, with an emphasis on the monitoring of the quality of drinking water. This is a descriptive, qualitative study with a documental basis. The documents that were researched were related to initiatives by the Health Surveillance Secretariat of the Ministry of Health up until 2014. It is necessary to strengthen the performance capacity of the Unified Health System (SUS) in order to develop timely responses to reduce the risk to public health.

O Serviço Nacional de Malária operacionalizou uma fábrica de pesticidas organoclorados utilizados em campanhas de saúde pública (HCH e DDT) entre 1950 e 1965, na Cidade dos Meninos, no município de Duque de Caxias, RJ, visando combater doenças rurais endêmicas. Após denúncia na mídia, em 1989, a FEEMA detectou que, com a desativação da fábrica, foram deixados resíduos da produção dos pesticidas, causando a contaminação do solo. Neste trabalho foram realizadas análises foliares e de solo em dois talhões de espécies de eucalipto (Eucalyptus grandis e Corymbia citriodora (Hook.) K.D. Hill & L.A.S. Jhonson), com o objetivo de avaliar o potencial da espécie como fitorremediador de área contaminada por organoclorados. Coletaram-se cinco amostras compostas de folhas (três do C. citriodora e duas do E. grandis) e uma composta de solo em cada um dos talhões estudados para análise de organoclorados por cromatografia gasosa. As alturas médias dos talhões de E. grandis e C. citriodora foram, respectivamente, de 9,1 e 16,8 com diâmetros médios de 7,8 e 15,95 cm; a média de C. citriodora foi similar à de outros plantios em regiões de mata atlântica, ficando a de E. grandis pouco abaixo. Detectou-se a presença de organoclorados nas folhas analisadas, porém em baixas concentrações. Nos solos, as concentrações encontradas foram altas, sendo maiores no talhão de E. grandis. Os resultados foram comparados com análises prévias na área, indicando que as espécies atuaram como fitorremediadoras, especialmente o C. citriodora, uma vez que houve redução na contaminação do solo e absorção dos organoclorados pelas folhas. The Malaria National Service built a factory of organoclorine pesticides used in public health campaigns (HCH and DDT) between 1950 and 1965, at Cidade dos Meninos, in the municipal district of Duque de Caxias/RJ to control the dissemination of endemic rural diseases. After a media outcry, in 1989, FEEMA investigated and found out that after the factory closure piles of residues were left behind causing the contamination of the soils. Analyses of foliar tissues and soil were conducted in two stands of Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus grandis e Corymbia citriodora (Hook.) K.D. Hill & L.A.S. Jhonson), with the objective of evaluating the potential of the species as phytoremediator of contaminated soils by organochlorines pesticides. A composite soil sample and five samples of leaves were collected in each one of the studied places. Three leaf samples from C. citriodora and two from E. grandis were analized for pesticides organochlorines by gas chromatography. Both species grew on the same conditions, with average heights of 9,1 e 16,8 m and average diameters of 7,8 and 15,95 cm for E. grandis and C. citriodora, respectively. The average height and diameter of C. citriodora were similar to those found for other stands in the Atlantic forest region while the E. grandis was a little bellow those averages. The presence of organochlorine pesticides was detected in the leaves at low concentrations but the concentrations in the soils were high, being greater in the E. grandis plantation. These results were compared to previous analyses and suggested that the species can function as phytoremediators especially the C. citriodora.
