Büyük Toykuşu (Otis tarda, Linneaus 1758), IUCN tarafından Avrupa’da ‘Asgari Endişe Verici’ ve Dünya çapında ‘Hassas’ olarak sınıflandırılan ve hem CITES hem de Bern sözleşmesinde EK-II’de (Kesin Koruma Altındaki Fauna Türleri) listelenen bir kuş türüdür. Son tahminlere göre Türkiye populasyonu, 44.000-57.000 birey ile temsil edilen dünya populasyonunun sadece %1-2’sini oluşturmaktadır. Bu populasyon çalışması, Mart 2013-Ocak 2020 tarihleri arasında, Eskişehir, Kütahya ve Afyonkarahisar illerinde 7 farklı lokasyonda gerçekleştirilmiştir. Özetle, incelenen alanların toplam 205 bireyden oluşan bir kışlama populasyonuna, toplam 100 bireyden oluşan bir üreme populasyonuna ve toplam 70 bireyden oluşan bir yazlama populasyona sahip olduğu kaydedildi. İncelenen alanlar kışlama döneminde Türkiye nüfusunun ortalama %17-29'unu, üreme döneminde Türkiye nüfusunun ortalama %8-14'ünü ve yazlama döneminde Türkiye nüfusunun ortalama %6-10'unu temsil etmektedir. Çalışma alanlarında Büyük Toykuşu populasyonunun azalmasını önlemek için acil koruyucu önlemlerin uygulanması gerekmektedir. Sadece nüfus düşüşünü durdurmak için değil, aynı zamanda nüfus artışını sağlıklı seviyelere çıkarmak için yeni tedbirler oluşturmanın bir yolu olarak türler üzerinde detaylı etolojik çalışmalar önerilmektedir., The Great Bustard (Otis tarda, Linneaus 1758) is a bird species categorized as “Least Concern” in Europe and “Vulnerable” in the world by the IUCN and listed in both CITES and the Bern Convention Annex II. According to the latest estimates, Turkey’s population makes up only 1-2% of the global population, which is represented by 44.000-57.000 individuals. This population study was carried out in 7 different locations in Eskişehir, Kütahya, and Afyonkarahisar provinces between March 2013 and January 2020. In summary, the surveyed areas were recorded as having a total wintering population of 205 individuals, a total breeding population of 100 individuals, and a total summering population of 70 individuals. The surveyed areas represent an average of 17-29% of Turkey’s population in wintering period, an average of 8-14% of Turkey’s population in breeding period, and an average of 6-10% of Turkey’s population in summering period. Urgent implementation of protective measures is required to prevent the population decline of the Great Bustard within the study areas. Detailed ethological studies on the species are recommended as a means of creating new measures to not only stop population decline but to promote population growth to healthy levels.

Diabetes is a type of disease which adversely affects the circulation of blood at the tissues and eventually causes tissue damage because of vascular complications. The tissue damage, which is caused by diabetes, has negative effects on some of the important organs such as eyes and kidneys, and as well as on the skin. High level of blood sugar, which is encountered in unregulated diabetes, effects skin surgeries (i.e: skin flaps) negatively. TENS method (Transcutaneus Electrical Nevre Stimulation), which is used for treatment of pain, pruritus, neuropathy, etc., since many years, is also used for problems such as wound healing and insufficient blood flow in skin. In our study, TENS‘ effect on reduction of flap necrosis was investigated on Wistar albino rats, which were experimentally induced diatebetes via intraperitonal injection of single dose of 60 mg/kg Streptozotocin (STZ). As a result of the experiments, it was observed that, TENS current reduced flap necrosis in control group. However, in the rats which were induced experimentally via STZ, a significant flap healing wasn‘t observed. Also, in our study, it was found that, inflammation decreased in diabetic rats which were exposed to TENS. Büyük toy kuşu (Otis tarda), Otididae familyasının Batı Palearktik de bulunan türlerinden en büyük olanıdır ve erkek toy kuşu, uçabilen en ağır kuşlardan biridir. Bu tür, Küresel Tehlikedeki Kuşlar Listesi'nde (IUCN, 2011) Hassas `Vulnerable' ve Bern sözleşmesinde EK-II statüsündedir. Toy kuşunun dünya populasyonu, şu anki tahminlere göre 44.054 ile 57.005 birey arasındadır ve en geniş populasyon İspanya'dadır (% 57-70). Türkiye ise dünya populasyonunun % 1-2' sini barındırmaktadır.Toy kuşu populasyonunun sayımları Mart 2010-Ekim 2011 ve Mart-Mayıs 2012 tarihleri arasında Kütahya ili Altıntaş ilçesinde bulunan Yaban Hayatı Geliştirme Sahası içinde gerçekleştirildi. 3 üreme dönemi, 2 yazlama ve 1 de kışlama dönemi olmak üzere toplamda 20 aylık arazi çalışmaları sonucunda, 1 toplanma (Lek) alanı içinde toplam 8 (2 erkek, 5 dişi ve 1 iki yaşında erkek) birey tespit edildi. Çalışma alanı içinde bu türü tehdit eden faktörler arasında pestisit ve rodentisit kullanımı, elektrik hatları ile çarpışmalar, altyapısal değişikliklerle (anayol ve havaalanı inşaatı) habitat kayıpları-kesikliliği, üreme alanları içindeki insan kaynaklı huzursuzluk ve yasadışı avcılık büyük öneme sahiptir. Bu nedenle, alanda yaşayan ve son derece tehlike altındaki bu populasyonun devamı için acil olarak koruma önlemleri alınması gerekmektedir. The Great Bustard (Otis tarda) is the biggest species in the western Palearctic species of the Otididae and the Male Great Bustard (Otis tarda) is one of the heaviest flying birds. The species is globally threatened species classified as ?Vulnerable? by IUCN (IUCN, 2011) and is listed in the CİTES appendix II. In brief The Great Bustard (Otis tarda) world population is estimated to be 44.054?57.005 individuals in 2010, of which about 57-70% occur in Spain. Turkey occurs only 1-2% of world population.Between March 2010-October 2011 and March-May 2012 censuses of Great Bustards (Otis tarda) population was carried out in Altıntaş Plain Wildlife Development Area, Kütahya, Turkey. The total numbers of birds counted during 3 breeding, 2 summer and 1 wintering period as a result of field survey including a total of 20 months was 8 individuals (2 males, 5 females and 1 second year male) in 1 lek area. In survey area important threats to the population include use of pesticides and rodenticide, collision with power lines, habitat loss through infrastructural changes (construction of a motorway and airway), disturbance in breeding areas and illegal hunting. Therefore, immediate conservation actions are urgently required to save this extremely endangered population from extinction. 97

Bu çalışmada sıçanlarda, gallik asitin; L-NAME ile deneysel olarak oluşturulanhipertansiyon üzerindeki etkileri araştırıldı.Çalışmada 60 adet, 10 haftalık Spraque Dawley dişi sıçan kullanıldı. Sıçanlareşit sayıda 6 gruba ayrıldı. Gruplara 4 hafta boyunca her sabah aynı saatlerdeenjeksiyonla verilmesi gereken madde uygulandı. Kontrol grubu olan 1.Gruba sadeceserum fizyolojik (SF) intraperitonal (i.p) olarak uygulandı. 2.Grup olan Gallik asit 100grubuna 100mg/kg Gallik asit (SF'de çözdürülerek) i.p olarak uygulandı. 3.Grup olanGallik asit 200 grubuna 200mg/kg Gallik asit (SF'de çözdürülerek) i.p. olarakuygulandı. 4.Grup olan L-NAME grubuna 20mg/kg L-NAME i.p. olarak uygulandı.5.Grupta, 20mg/kg L-NAME ve 100mg/kg Gallik asit dozları aynı sıçana i.p. olarakuygulandı. 6.Grupta, 20mg/kg L-NAME ve 200mg/kg Gallik asit dozları aynı sıçanai.p. olarak uygulandı. Sıçanlar 4. haftanın sonunda sırasıyla 10mg/kg Xylasine HCl(Rhompun) ve 50mg/kg Ketamin HCl (Ketalar) anestezisi altında ameliyat edilereksistolik basınç (SB), diyastolik basınç (DB), nabız basıncı (PB), kalp hızı(HR), ortalamaarter basıncı (MAP) değerleri ölçülerek kaydedildi. Sonuçlar istatistiksel olarakdeğerlendirildi. L-NAME ve Gallik asitin birlikte uygulandığı gruplarda SB ve DBdeğerlerinin önemli ölçüde azaldığı görüldü. Gallik asit grupları ve kontrol grubundaparametrelerde önemli bir değişim gözlenmedi. L-NAME grubu ile diğer gruplararasında önemli ölçüde bir farklılık görüldü. Çalışmanın sonucu, Gallik asitin 200mg/kg dozunun; L-NAME ile deneysel olarak hipertansiyon oluşturulan sıçanlarda kanbasıncını düşürdüğünü göstermektedir. The present study aims to investigate that effects of gallic acid on experimental inducedhypertension induced with L-NAME in rats.60 ten-week old female Spraque Dawley rats were used in this study, which werecategorized into 6 different groups of equal numbers. The substance to be given to therats by means of an injection were administrated intraperitonally(i.p) around the sametime every single day for 4 weeks. Group 1,the Control group(Group1) was given onlysaline i.p. Group 2, the Gallic acid Group, was given 100mg/kg Gallic acid dissolved insaline i.p. the Group 3, the Gallic acid Group, was given 200mg/kg Gallic aciddissolved in saline i.p. Group 4 L-NAME Group was given 20mg/kg of L-NAME i.p.As for Group 5 it was given both 20mg/kg of L-NAME and 100mg/kg of Gallic acidrespectively. As for Group 6 it was given both 20mg/kg of L-NAME and 200mg/kg ofGallic acid respectively. At the end of 4 week, the rats were anesthetised under10mg/kg Xylasine HCl (Rhompun) and 50mg/kg Ketamin HCl (Ketalar) respectively.Following the sacrifice of the rats,the following values of the rats were measured andevaluated statistically: systolic pressure (SP), diastolic pressure (DP), pulse pressure(PP), heart rate (HR) and mean arterial pressure (MAP). In the groups given L-NAMEaccompanied by Gallic acid, SP and DP values were observed to have decreasedremarkably. No significant change could be determined for the parameters in eitherGallic acid or Control Group.There was no statistically significant difference betweenL-NAME and the other groups in this respect. In conclution, the present studydemonstrated that 200mg/kg of gallic acid combined with L-NAME decreased bloodplessure of the rats suffering from experimentally induced hypertension. 71

Bu çalısmada, 2004-2009 tarihleri arasında, Eskisehir ormanlarında ve sehir parklarında yasayan Turdus merula (Karatavuk) populasyonunun biyo-etolojisi çalısıldı. Çalısma sonucunda erkek, disi ve yavru bireylerin davranıs örüntüleri, esler arasındaki iliskiler, erkek bireylerin teritori ve üreme davranısları, ebeveyn yavru iliskileri, üreme biyolojisiyle ilgili çesitli unsurlar, ötüs davranısı, türün ormanda yasayan türdasları ve diğer türlerle iliskileri üzerine çalısmalar yapıldı. Ayrıca populasyon biyolojisi ve bireylerin morfometrileri de hesaplandı. Elde edilen veriler yurtdısında karatavuklarla ilgili olan çesitli çalısmalarla karsılastırıldı. Eskisehir orman ve sehirlerinde yasayan karatavukların 270 ile 1700 m rakımda 0,1 ha basına bir çift birey düsecek sekilde bir üreme yoğunluğuna, sahip olduğu, Mart bası-Temmuz sonu (populasyonun %91’i) üredikleri belirlendi. 54 yuva, 8 farklı ağaç ve çalımsı türde tespit edildi. En fazla tercih edilen ağaç 39 yuva ile Pinus (çam) türleri oldu. Yuva yeri olarak çalımsı türler daha az tercih edildi. Kuluçka sayısı 3-5 (ort. 3,6), kuluçka süresi 13-14 gün, yavru süresi 13-16 gün olarak tespit edildi. Üreme basarısı açısından orman ve park populasyonlarında çesitli derecelerde önem arz eden davranıssal farklılıklar olduğu görüldü. This study investigated the bio-ethology of the Common Blackbird Turdus merula in city parks and forests of Eskisehir Province from 2004 to 2009 years. Behavioural differences between males and females, parent-young interactions, development of fledglings, and the role of song in territorial behaviour were first totally investigated. A lot of behavior aspetcs were described. There were no significant differences other country populastions. The blackbird nests were found from 720 to 1.700 m at a breeding density of one pairs/ha. Egg-laying occurred from early May to late August (all of nesting attempts) between mid-May and first June. Most (85 %) of the nests were sited in eight different plant species with Pinus species being most preferred. A few (only two) nests were in bushes. Bushes used for nest sites were significantly lower. Compared with other country blackbird populations, results are similar to bio-ethology of Eskisehir blackbird population. Blackbirds in study area had same breeding season (4 months), laid clutches (3-5 eggs, averaging 3,6), produced one or two brood sometimes three per year, incubation period (13-14 days), nestling period (13-16 days).

Bu çalışmada Lacertidae familyasından Ophisops elegans ile Lacerta trilineata ve Lacerta viridis meridionalis türlerine ait kan örneklerinden hematolojik veriler elde edilerek, kan hücrelerinin karakteristiği ortaya konulmuştur. Mevcut türlerin çevre kirliliğine maruz kalıp kalmadıklarını gözlemlemek için eritrositlerindeki mikronükleus oluşumlarına da bakılmıştır. Çalışma Temmuz ve Ağustos 2008 tarihleri arasında yapılmış olup, örnekler Eskişehir merkez ve ilçeleri ile Bursa merkezde yakalanmıştır. Laboratuarda kanları alınan hayvanlar öldürülmeden doğaya salınmışlardır. Yapılan laboratuar çalışmaları sonucunda üzerinde çalışmış olduğumuz türlerin sürüngen türleri içerisinde en küçük eritrosit genişlik ve uzunluklarına sahip oldukları bulunmuştur. Çekirdek konumları, büyüklükleri ve boyama karakteristiklerine göre kan hücreleri sınıflandırılmış ve detaylı olarak incelenmiştir. Ayrıca eritrositlerde mikronükleus sayısına da bakılarak, genotoksik etkinin bir göstergesi olan mitotik hasarların oluşma olasılığı hesaplanmıştır. Sonuçta elde edilen bulgular, söz konusu türlerin çevre kirleticilerine maruz kalıp kalmamaları açısından yorumlanmış ve yaşadıkları ortamı göze alarak çevre kirleticilerine, özellikle pestisitlere maruz kaldıkları ortaya konmuştur. In this study, blood samples drawed from Ophisops elegans, Lacerta trilineata, Lacerta viridis meridionalis species have been haematologically examined and characteristics of blood samples have been showed their morphology as microscopically. Other hand, micronucleus formation is also examined to observe whether species have been exposed or not to envirenmental pollution. This study was carried out in August from July (2008) and lizard samples collected in Bursa and Eskisehir provinces. Subject lizards from which blood samples were drawed have been released in to areas that collected them. During the laboratories studies, following results have showed that examined animals have got the most small length and width erytrocytes among reptilia species. Considering nucleus location, footprint and varing degree of stainity, erytrocytes have been categorized and analysed in detail. Furthermore, mitotik damage posibility as indication of genotoxic effect have been figured. Finally, find out diagnosis showed that examined species have exposed environmental pollutant and specially pesticides.

Bu çalışma, Eskişehir'in Merkez ilçe sınırlarında yer alan Meşelik Ormanı bölgesinde ve çevresinde yürütüldü. Çalışma alanında 6 takımdan 21 familyaya ait 49 tür tespit edildi. Saptanan türlerin 31'inin yerli, 10'unun göçmen, 1'inin transit, 4'ünün transit ya da göçmen, 2'sinin yerli ya da kış ziyaretçisi, 1'inin kış ziyaretçisi olduğu belirlendi. This study has been carried to determine the ornithofauna of Meselik Forest Area in Eskisehir and its around the surrounding area. In this study, 49 species have been identified that belong to 21 families from 6 orders. 31 of this observed species are native, 10 of them immigrant, 1 of them visitor, 4 of them visitor or immigrant, 2 of them native or winter visitor, 1 of them winter visitor. 77

iÖZETDiabet; vasküler komplikasyonları nedeniyle doku dolaşımını olumsuz etkileyen ve bununbir sonucu olarak doku hasarına neden olan bir hastalıktır. Diabetin neden olduğu bu doku hasarı;böbrek ve göz gibi önemli organları etkilediği gibi cildi de etkilemektedir. yi regüle edilememişdiabette gözlenen kan şekeri yüksekliği, ciltte yapılan operasyonları (örneğin; skin flaps) olumsuzetkilemektedir. Dolayısıyla da, kan şekerinin düzenlenmesine ilave olarak, ciltteki kandolaşımının da arttırılması gerekliliği ortaya çıkmaktadır. Uzun yıllardan beri ağrı, kaşıntı,nöropati vb. rahatsızlıkların tedavisinde kullanılagelen TENS (Transcutaneus Electrical NevreStimulation) yöntemi; yara iyileşmesi ve ciltteki kan dolaşımının yetersizliği gibi problemlerde dekullanılmaktadır.Çalışmamızda Streptozotocin ( STZ ) ile tek doz 60 mg/kg olarak, intraperitoneal (i.p)yolla deneysel diyabetik hale getirilen Wistar Albino sıçanlarda, flep nekrozunun azaltılmasıüzerinde TENS' in etkileri araştırılmıştır.Deneylerde ağırlıkları 200-240 g olan 40 adet erkek sıçan kullanılmıştır. Sıçanlar 10' arbireylik 4 gruba (K, A, B, C) ayrılmış ve bu gruplardan ikisi (K ve C) sadece sodyum sitrattamponu verilmiş olan sağlıklı kontrol guruplarını oluştururken, diğer iki gurup (A ve B) sodyumsitrat tamponu içinde çözünmüş STZ ile akut diyabetik hale getirilmiş grupları oluşturmaktadır.STZ tatbikinden 24 saat sonra, kuyruklardan intravenöz yolla alınan kanların glukoz seviyeleriglukometre cihazı ile tespit edilmiş ve kan şeker seviyesi 250 mg/dL' nin üzerinde olanlardiyabetik olarak kabul edilmiştir.Sağlıklı ve diyabetli bireyleri karşılaştırabilmek için TENS, bu dört gruptan sadece B ve C'ye uygulanmış olup, diğer iki gurup kontrol amaçlı olarak değerlendirilmeye alınmıştır. Tümguruplardaki sıçanların sırt bölgelerinden, intraperitonal ketamin anestezisi (100 mg/kg) altındakaldırılmış olan 2x7 cm' lik deri flebinin tekrar yerleştirilmesi yoluyla nekrotik doku oluşumunabakılmıştır. Sadece gurup B ve C'deki sıçanların yaralarına günde 1 saat olmak üzere yedi günboyunca TENS (0.2 ms' lik, monopolar, 80 Hz frekansında, 20 mA' lık akım ) uygulanmış veyedinci günün sonunda tüm gruplarda nekroz ölçümü yapılarak biyopsi alınmıştır. Daha sonrabiyopsi örneklerinin histopatolojik incelemeleri tamamlanmıştır.Sonuç olarak TENS akımının, sağlam bireylerde flebin nekroz alanını anlamlı olarakazalttığı gözlemlenmiştir. Ancak, deneysel olarak STZ ile diyabetli hale getirilmiş sıçanlardaanlamlı sayılabilecek bir fleb iyileşmesi gözlemlenmemiştir. Thus, as an additionto the regulation of the blood-glucose levels it emerges that it is necessary to increase the skinperfusion in order to overcome negative effects encountered in skin operations. Having been usedfor the treatment of pain, pruritus and neuropathies for so many years, TENS (TranscutaneusElectrical Nevre Stimulation) is still in use of enhancement of wound healing and skin perfusiondeficiency.In this study, healing effects of the TENS on the necrosis of skin flaps in STZ-induceddiabetic Albino Wistar rats (60 mg/kg, i.p) have been investigated. Forty male Wistar albino ratsweighing between 200-240 g were used in the study. The rats were separated in four groupsincluding 10 individuals in each group (K, A, B, C). While K and C groups were consisting ofsodium citrate buffer treated nondiabetic rats, which was a control group, the other two groups Aand B were including acute diabetic rats treated with STZ solved in sodium citrate buffer, whichcaused them to be diabetic. Twenty-four hours after STZ treatment, blood glucose levels havebeen determined by the glucometer, using the intravenous blood samples obtained from the tails.The rats, whose blood glucose levels were over 250 mg/dl at 24 hours after STZ administration,were accepted as diabetic.In order to be able to compare the healthy and diabetic individuals, TENS was only appliedto the groups B and C, and the other two were used as control groups as it was mentioned above.To investigate the necrotic tissue forming in each group, necrotic tissues formed by raisingcaudally based dorsal flaps measuring 2x7 cm and then returning to it?s bed under intravenousketamine anesthesia (100 mg /kg). TENS (monopolar pulses of 0.2 ms duration, 80 hz frequencyand 20 mA intensity) was only applied to the rat?s flaps in groups B and C for one hour a day forseven days. At the end of the seventh day the necrosis at the distal ends of the flaps weremeasured and biopsies were taken for histopathologic evaluation. In conclusion, the study showedthat TENS significantly decreases the flap necrosis in nondiabetic individuals . But no positiveeffects of the TENS application on the flap survival in the experimentally diabetic rats wasdetermined. vÖZETAKUT BOR K AS T UYGULANAN SIÇANLARDA TEST S, KARAC ĞER,BÖBREK ve BEY N DOKULARI ÜZER NDE GÖZLENEN H STOPATOLOJ KDEĞ Ş MLERSon yıllarda toksik etkilerinin arttığının gözlenmesi sonucu sindirim sistemi,merkezi sinir sistemi ve üreme sistem başta olmak üzere tüm vücutta bor ve ürünlerininetkileri ile ilgili ülkemiz ve dünyada yoğun çalışmalar başlatılmıştır. Bor ürünlerinden olanBorik asit, hücre zarlarının fonksiyonlarını, hormonal ve mineral metabolizmayıetkilemektedir. Toksik dozlarda, erkek deney hayvanlarında döllenme başarısınınbozulmasına, spermatogenezin durmasına, eşey ve sertoli hücre kaybına yol açtığı ilerisürülmektedir. Borik asitin diğer etkileri ise, ön midede hiperplazi indüksiyonu ile hepatikve subkutan dokularda tümoral gelişimlerdir.Bu çalışmada ağız yolu ile verilen toksik dozda akut borik asit uygulamasındansonra sıçan testis, karaciğer, böbrek ve beyin dokularında borik asidin yarattığıhistopatolojik değişikliklerin ışık mikroskobu ile belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır.Çalışmada, ortalama 285 gr ağırlığında 12 haftalık 30 adet erkek albino Sprague-Dawley sıçana, 1000 mg/kg/gün borik asit 7 gün süre ile oral olarak verilmiştir. Kontrololarak, yaklaşık aynı ağırlıkta ve yaştaki 12 adet erkek albino Sprague-Dawley sıçankullanılmıştır. Yedinci günün sonunda hayvanlardan testis, karaciğer, böbrek ve beyindokuları izole edilmiştir. Deney bitiminde, deney grubunun kontrol grubuna göre belirginvücut ağırlığı kaybı olduğu saptanmıştır. Aynı şekilde, deney grubu testis, karaciğer veböbrek ağırlıklarının da kontrollere göre azaldığı görülmüştür. Alınan testis, karaciğer,böbrek ve beyin dokularında histopatolojik incelemeler yapılmıştır. Işık mikroskobu ileyapılan incelemede parafin kesitlerde ve yarı ince kesitlerde, testis dokusunun vasküleryatağında konjesyon ve alınan tüm dokularda değişik oranlarda hücresel dejenerasyongörülmüştür.Sonuç olarak, akut borik asit uygulamasının, yaygın toksik etki ile birlikte özellikletestis dokusunda spermatogenez durmasına yol açarak histopatolojik değişikliklere nedenolduğu görülmüştür.Anahtar Kelimeler: Akut Toksisite, bor, borik asit, doku, testisvi viSUMMARYHISTOPATHOLOGICAL CHANGES OBSERVED ON TESTICULAR, LIVER,KIDNEY AND BRAIN TISSUES IN THE RATS ADMINISTRATED ACUTEBORIC ACIDIn the last years, many studies related to the effects of boric acid and its productsthroughout one?s body and boron has been initiated to be done as a result of the fact that itstoxic effects have increased, mainly on gastrointestinal system, central nervous system andreproductive system. Boric acid from boron products affects the functions of cellmembrane, hormonal and mineral metabolism. It has put forward that boric acidadministrated in toxic doses impairs fertility by causing inhibition of spermatogenesis, lossof germ and sertoli cell in male rodents. The other effects of boric acid also includestumoral development in hepatic and subcutaneıus tissues as well as the induction ofhyperplasia in forestomach.In this study, by means of light microscopy, the determination of histopathologicalchanges caused by boric acid in rat testicular, liver, kidney and brain tissue, after orallyadministration of acute boric acid in toxic doses was aimed.In the study, boric acid was administrated during 7 days 1000 mg/kg bodyweight/day to 30 males of albino Sprague-Dawley rats, mean weight of 285 g and age of 12weeks. As a control group, 12 male Sprague-Dawley rats, approximately same age andweight, were used. In the end of the seventh day, the animals? testis, liver and kidney tissueswere isolated. In the end of the test, it was determined that the test group had apparent lossof body weight compared to control group. In the same way, it was determined that thetestis, liver and kidney weights of the animals decreased in the test group compared to thecontrol group. In the taked out testis, liver, kidney and brain tissues, histopathologicalinvestigations were done. In the investigation by light microscopy, in paraphine cross-sections, it was observed that cellular degeneration in different proportions in all the takedout tissues as well as the congestion in the vascular deposit in testicular tissue existed.As a result, administration of acute boric acid causes to histopathological changesby inhibiting spermiogenesis especially in testis tissue as well as widespread toxic effect.Key Words: Acute toxicity, boron, boric acid, tissue, testisvii 82

IV ÖZET Bu çalışmada, coğrafık ve iklimsel bakımdan kendine özgü koşullara sahip olan Eskişehir ili ve ilçelerindeki yılan ve kertenkele faunası araştırılmıştır. Bölgede tespit edilen türlerin morfolojik özellikleri değerlendirilerek, taksonomik durumları belirlenmiştir. Araştırma bölgesinde, sekizi kertenkele ve altısı da yılan olmak üzere toplam on dört ayrı tür saptanmıştır. Bunlardan Scincidae familyası üyeleri Mabuya vittata ve Ablepharus kitaibelii türlerinin bölge için yeni kayıt oldukları anlaşılmıştır. Ayrıca Lacertidae familyasından Ophisops elegans türünün, bölgenin kuzeyi ve güneyinde yaşayan populasyonlan arasında, renk ve desen bakımından bazı farklar tespit edilmiştir. Bölgede tespit edilen türlerin yaşadığı bölgelerle, arazide belirlenen ekolojik gözlemlere de ayrıca yer verilmiştir. Böylece, temel yapısı ortaya çıkarılmış olan Türkiye herpetofaunasma ait boşluklara katkıda bulunulmaya çalışılmıştır. SUMMARY İn this study, snake and lizard fauna of the vicinity of Eskişehir city and its counties, where has unique geographical and climatic conditions, were investigated. Morphological features and taxonomic conditions of the species identified in the region were also determined. Totally fourteen species of eight lizards and six snakes, have been identified İn the research field. İt was found out that Mabttya vittata and Ablepharus Mtaibelii species of Scincidae family are new records for the study region. Besides this, some differences of coloration pattern have been determinated between the populations of Ophisops elegcms of Lacertidae family, living in the north and south part of the study region. Ecological observations about the habitats of the species determined in the region have also been mentioned. Thus, we tried to contribute to filling the empty gaps of herpetofauna of Turkey, about which the basic information has been revealed up to know. 52

Bu çalışma, Eskişehir'in Merkez ilçe sınırlarında yer alan Porsuk Baraj Gölü ve çevresinde yürütüldü. Çalışma alanında 13 ordodan 34 familyaya ait 81 tür tespit edildi. Tespit edilen türlerin 30'unun yerli, 22'sinin göçmen, 15'inin transit, 7'sinin kış ziyaretçisi, 5 'inin besin ziyaretçisi, Finin yerli ya da besin ziyaretçisi ve l'inin de besin ziyaretçisi ya da göçmen olduğu belirlendi. In this study, 81 species have been identified that belong to 34 families from 13 orders. 30 of this observed species are native, 22 of them immigrant, 15 of them immigrant visitor, 7 of them winter visitor; 5 of them visiting for food, 1 of them native or visiting for food, and 1 of them immigrant or visiting for food. IV ÖZET Bu çalışmada ülkemiz sınırları içerisinde yaşayan iki yer sincabı türünden biri olan Spermophilus xanthoprymnus (Bennet, 1835)'un biyolojisi, 2001 yılı Şubat-Ekim ayları arasında Eskişehir ili, Günyüzü ilçesi, Beyyayla köyü arazilerinde araştırılmıştır. Ekili alanlar çevresini kendine yaşam alanı olarak seçen yer sincapları, tarımsal ürünlere vermiş oldukları zararlar yanında veba, tularemi ve dağ humması gibi hastalık etkenlerini de taşıyarak toplum sağlığı açısından tehlike oluşturmaktadırlar. Bu olumsuzluklarına rağmen birçok yerde kürkleri için avlanmaları, yer sincaplarının ekonomik olarak değerlendirilmelerini de akla getirmektedir. Arazideki çalışmalar, hayvanların yaşam ortamlarında birebir etolojik olarak gözlemlenmiş, her ay düzenli olarak yakalanan hayvanların ağırlıkları tartılarak morfolojik incelemeleri yapılmıştır. Literatür bilgilerine paralel olarak hayvanların arazideki dağılımları, yuva yapıları, yuvaya giriş çıkış saatleri, beslenmeleri, davranışları, ağırlık değişimleri ve sosyal yaşamları da ayrıntılı olarak incelenmiştir. SUMMARY In this study the biology of Spermophilus xanthoprymnus (Bennet, 1835), which is one of the two species of ground squirrels living in Türkiye, was researched between February and October 2001 on the area of Beyyayla village, Günyüzü town, Eskişehir city. Ground squirrels preferring planted areas to live make a danger of pestilence, tularemia and fever for society besides the damage they give to the agricultural crops. On the other hand, since they are hunted for their fur, ground squirrels have an important economical role. The studies on the area were carried on ethologically one to one on the place they live. The animals caught every month were weighed regularly and examined morphologically. How they are scattered on the area, the structure of their nests,, the times for getting in and out the nests, how they feed themselves, their behaviours, the charge of their weights and social lives have been studied thoroughly according to the literature knowledge. 43

ÖZET Bu çalışmada, ülkemizdeki tarımsal mücadele çalışmalarında yaygın olarak kullanılan ve bilinçsizce tüketildiğinde ekolojik dengeyi bozan pestisitlerden malationun 1 mg/kg, 2 mg/kg ve 3 mg/kg dozları; 16 hafta süreyle cüce kertenkelelere {Lacerta parva, Boulenger 1887), açık arazide ve oral yolla uygulanmıştır. Deney süresince kertenkelelerin ağırlıkları haftalık olarak kaydedilmiştir. İlaç uygulanan gruplardaki hayvanların yaşam sürelerinin, ilaçsız gruplara göre oldukça azaldığı belirlenmiştir. Morfolojik incelemeler sonucunda kertenkelelerin hareketlerinde yavaşlama ve hızla ağırlık kaybedenlerde yeme karşı isteksizlik gözlenmiştir. Anatomik incelemeler karaciğer, böbrek ve incebarsakta yapılmış ve bu organlar çevresinde yağlanmanın fazla olduğu görülmüştür. Histopatolojik incelemeler de aynı organlar üzerinde yapılmış ve çeşitli tahribatlar saptanmıştır. Bu etkiler karaciğerde; yağlı dejenerasyon, sinuzoidal ve portal alan hiperemisi ve hepatositlerde nekroz şeklindedir. İncebarsaklarda, apikal sitoplazmada yağlı dejenerasyonlar, tek katlı prizmatik epitelde metaplazik değişiklikler ve tek katlı epitelden çok katlı epitele doğru değişimler gözlenmiştir. Böbrekte ise bozulmuş tübüler epitel, tübüllerde parankimal ve vakuoler dejenerasyonlar şeklindedir. SUMMARY In this study, 1 mg/kg, 2 mg/kg and 3 mg/kg doses of malathion which is a commonly used pesticide in agricultural control in our country and which destroys the ecologic balance of nature, when used unconsciously, had been applied to dwarf lizards (Lacerta parva, Boulenger 1887) orally in open air for 16 weeks. During this experiment the weights of the lizards were recorded at weekly intervals. Statistically it has been found that the life span of the groups of lizards which were given the drug decreased in comparison with the groups of lizards which weren't given the drug. At the end of the morphological studies slowing down of the movements and having no appetite on the fast weight loosing lizards were observed. The anatomical investigations were made on liver, kidney and small intestine, and increased fatness around them was observed. The histopatological investigations were made on the some organs and several damages were found. The effects of these damages were; fatty degeneration, hyperemia in sinusoid and portal areas, and necrosis in hepatocytes in liver; fatty degenerations on apical cytoplasm, metaplasic degenerations on simple prismatic epithelium and degenerations from single epithelium to stratified epithelium in small intestine and degenerated tubular epithelium, paranchimal and vacuoler degenerations in tubuls in Kidney. 70
