Se utilizaron 27 hembras caninas preñadas, clasificadas según su peso en perras: pequeñas, In dogs estimation of gestational age is limited by the variety of sizes of different breeds. The aim of this study was to ultrasound measure the size of some fetal and extrafetal structures useful to determine gestational age in bitches of different sizes. Twenty seven small, medium and large size bitches were included. Ultrasound confirmation of pregnancy was carried out between days 25 and 30 form first mating and, then, examinations were repeated every 10 days until parturition. External and internal uterine diameters, fetus biparietal and body diameters and femoral longitude were measured. The four diameters and femoral longitude increased throughout gestation in all bitches´ sizes. Heart rate ranged from 205 to 242 bpm with a tendency to diminish at the end of gestation in all the cases. A larger number of animals is still necessary to establish normal reference ranges of these parameters in the three breed sizes., Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias
