This paper describes the opportunity in the energy generation and energy use by the Pilsen heat power station and their positive impact on the environment by the biomass integration for energy generation. Building of this complex took 20 month. It was the equipment, which makes possible to produce the energy from utilization of the biomass. For these reasons, environmental impact is a factor of increasing relevance and importance that conditions the present operation and development of this system and will indisputably have an even more intense effect on the industry in the future.

According to the European Environment Agency, the use of biomass for clean energy generation in EU could be significantly increased in the next decades. There are a wide variety of biomass resources, including tree and grass crops and forestry, agricultural, and urban wastes. This paper deals with possibilities of generating energy from biomass resources in Slovakia.

Biomass power, derived from the burning of plant matter, raises more serious environmental issues than any other renewable resource except hydropower. Combustion of biomass and biomass-derived fuels produces air pollution; beyond this, there are concerns about the impacts of using land to grow energy crops. How serious these impacts are will depend on how carefully the resource is managed. The picture is further complicated because there is no single biomass technology, but rather a wide variety of production and conversion methods, each with different environmental impacts.

This paper deals with the issue of combustion of biomass in the existing fossil fuel power stations in the Czech Republic. The first parts are focused on ecological and social advantages resulting from development of renewable sources in energetic. In the next part, the influence of the state support on the combustion of biomass for generation of electric power is considered. The calculation in the last part of this paper demonstrates economic efficiency of biomass combustion in midsized source of power.

This paper gives a proper overview on various possibilities for power generation from biomass in smallscale. One should note that the concept power generation from biomass in the article refers straight to combined heat and power (CHP) production based on biomass.

Biomass it the oldest used fuel of the mankind (approximately 40 000years) and still today it is important worldwide source of the energy. Its proportion on the world energetic balance according to up to date source is around 16%. The highest proportion of the biomass usage shows for example: Africa 50%, Indonesia 40%, Asia 33%, South America 28% and China 21%. Czech Republic has got a very long tradition in the usage of different forms of biomass for gaining energy from renewable sources (OZE). In the period of 20tees till 50tees of the last century (it means from the beginning of the first world war till the end of second world war was biomass used except from gaining of energy for heating, cooking and heating of the water also for production of the spirit, wooden coal, wood gas for drive of different machines, including cars. The usage of biomass in Czech Republic for energetic purposes has got a dominant place comparing to other sources and possibilities of usage renewable resource of the energy as energy of wind, water, sun and so on. These days biomass participates by 65% on the total usage of the renewable resources of the energy. State energetic policy of the Czech Republic regards biomass as an important source of energy and it assumes that it will participate on the total balance of usage of renewable resources by 80% in 2020 and by 85% in 2030. Renewable resources and biomass especially are basis of energetic sources for the future. Except of energetic contribution the biomass significantly contributes to the stabilization and gradual decrease of the changes on the climate by the human activity.

Renewable biomass and biomass-derived fuels could be readily gasified to produce a hydrogen-rich gas or hydrogen. Among the biomass energy conversion schemes gasification produces a product gas, which based on its properties could be used either to co-produce value-added byproducts or hydrogen. As a readily renewable fuel, biomass may become a significant component in the global sustainable energy mix as fossil fuel resources begin to deplete. In addition, biomass utilization can expedite mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration cycles and promote "green" industries with associated growth in rural economies. Hydrogen or hydrogen-rich gas produced from biomass could be readily used in most of the present natural gas or petroleum derived hydrogen energy conversion devices and also in advanced systems such as fuel cells. [1] For all hydrogen production processes, there is a need for significant improvement in plant efficiencies, for reduced capital costs and for better reliability and operating flexibility.

The future vision for hydrogen is that it will be cost-effectively produced from renewable energy sources and made available for widespread use as an energy carrier and a fuel. Biomass has the potential to accelerate the realisation of hydrogen as a major fuel of the future. The article describes the relevant technologies that convert biomass to hydrogen.

This article deals with possibility of biomass utilization and methods of its processing. Further deals with a heating power and characteristic of each biomass fuel. Sources of biomass fuels and their power potential are described. At the end are described two power plants, which represent two most frequent utilizations of biomass energy.
