We analyzed Russian and foreign studies of phenotypic selection and found the reasons of different estimates of the efficiency of this approach. Parameters of genetic improvement of height and diameter resulting from phenotypic selection of plus trees of pine in forest plantations were calculated using evidence. Conclusions are made on the prospects of conventional forest selection in improvement of productivity of forests were made based on personal data and literature review.
