O uso descontrolado de agrotóxicos em lavouras nos sistemas de produção agrícola nos impulsionou a buscar por medidas alternativas no controle de doença fúngica de potencial relevante como é o caso da antracnose em lavouras de banana e de maracujá, tornando estas medidas de controle menos agressivas ao meio ambiente e ao ser humano. Neste contexto, o trabalho teve como objetivo reunir publicações com potencial antifúngico de óleos essenciais no controle alternativo de Colletotrichum sp.

This study presents the floristic-taxonomic treatment of Passifloraceae s.s. from the state of Ceará. Identifications were based on the analysis of collections deposited in national herbaria and photos of international herbarium collections, including types specimens, specialized bibliography and samples collected in the field. The family is represented in Ceará by 18 taxa of Passiflora, of which three are new records for the state: P. capsularis, P. kermesina and P. morifolia. Ten species were registered in Conservation Units in Ceará. The species occur in various types of vegetaion, but prefer more humid environments. Identification key, comments, images and distribution maps of the species are provided. Resumo Neste estudo é apresentado o tratamento florístico-taxonômico de Passifloraceae s.s. para o estado do Ceará, Brasil. As identificações foram baseadas na análise de coleções depositadas em herbários nacionais e fotos de coleções de herbários estrangeiros, incluindo espécimes tipo, bibliografias especializadas e amostras coletadas em campo. A família está representada no Ceará por 18 táxons de Passiflora, das quais três são novas ocorrências para o estado: P. capsularis, P. kermesina e P. morifolia. Dez espécies foram registradas em Unidades de Conservação do Ceará. As espécies ocorrem em vários tipos de vegetação, porém preferem ambientes mais úmidos. São fornecidas chave de identificação, comentários, imagens e mapas de distribuição das espécies.

Bamboo has been in the focus of attention as a re-discovery of an old and available material to solve environmental problems in the construction industry. The use of full-culm bamboo in the built environment, however, depends on proper quality control/assurance of its mechanical and physical properties. In this work, a quality assessment in terms of treatment control and mechanical properties of a small production of Phyllostachys edulis bamboo poles treated with disodium octaborate tetrahydrate (DOT) was performed. A comparison between two commercial preservatives used for exterior and interior applications, chromated copper borate (CCB) and DOT respectively, in terms of the effect on the mechanical properties and treatability behaviour was also investigated. Penetration and retention analyses showed satisfactory results for the samples treated with CCB, with retention of 7.2 kg/m3, while lower values of retention for the samples treated with DOT by the immersion method (2.2 kg/m3) was observed. Microstructural and EDS analyses revealed a much higher concentration of chromium and copper from the CCB solution in the bamboo large vessels. The mechanical characterization performed by compression, shear, tension, coupon three-point bending, and flat ring flexure tests showed that the difference between the two treatment conditions was small and, in most cases, not statistically relevant. Low coefficients of variation were observed in all the investigated mechanical tests, suggesting a uniform distribution of mechanical properties within the batch of P. edulis bamboo used in this study. The full characterization schedule combined with digital image correlation analyses enabled the calculation of the characteristic values of the mechanical properties, useful for structural design, complementing the treatability and quality assessment.

Antioxidant compounds are increasingly attracting more attention by neuropharmacology studies due to the property of preventing brain damage. This study aimed to evaluate the supposed enhancement of antidepressant potentiality of a flavonoid-rich extract and investigate the new bioactive compounds from Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa leaves. Quantitative analysis by RP-UHPLC-UV-DAD and extract yields were utilized in an experimental design to optimize flavonoid extraction. The total flavonoid content (11.42 mg/g), isoorientin (luteolin-6-C-β-D-glucoside) (5.21 mg/g), and LC-ESI-IT-MS/MS profile of the rich extract were determined and the flavonoid isoorientin (49 mg) was purified by preparative HPLC-UV-DAD. The antidepressant-like effects of the extract (50–100 mg/kg, p.o.) and isoorientin (1–10 mg/kg, p.o.) were investigated in the male mouse forced swimming test, in which both the positive control and experimental groups displayed reduced immobility time. Thus, the chemical results linked to the bioactivity assessments provide a 10-fold increase in the extract’s antidepressant potency and determine the relationship with the isoorientin flavonoid.

As sementes de Passiflora apresentam germinação baixa e desuniforme, devida a presença de dormência das sementes, sendo assim, esta dormência deve ser superada por um método eficiente que aumente as taxas de germinação. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a eficiência de métodos para superação da dormência das sementes de Passiflora elegans. Foram coletados 35 frutos maduros no município de Getúlio Vargas, Rio Grande do Sul em dezembro de 2013. O experimento foi conduzido na Universidade Federal de Viçosa. Foram utilizados os seguintes métodos para superação da dormência: T1: sementes com tegumento; T2: sementes sem tegumento; T3- escarificação mecânica; T4: escarificação química em ácido sulfúrico concentrado por 10 min; T5: estratificação por 5 dias a 4 ˚C; T6: sementes sem o tegumento, seguido de imersão em ácido giberélico GA3 (50 µM); T7: sementes sem o tegumento, seguido de imersão em solução de paclobutrazol (0,1 mM). As sementes foram submetidas a teste de germinação, utilizando cinco repetições de 40 sementes, mantidas em B.O.D. à 25 ˚C. A germinação foi avaliada diariamente por 80 dias. Foram avaliadas a porcentagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação (IVG) e velocidade de germinação (VG). No teste do tetrazólio as sementes receberam um picote e foram embebidas por 16 h e cortadas longitudinalmente e imersas em solução de tetrazólio 0,05% e mantidas no escuro em banho-maria a 36 ˚C, por 24 h. Conclui-se que a imersão em GA3 (50 µM) é o melhor método para a superação de dormência de P. elegans.

However, not much information is available on the structure and evolutionary role of TEs in the Passifloraceae family (Malpighiales order). Against this backdrop, we identified, characterized, and inferred the potential genomic impact of the TE repertoire found in the available genomic resources for Passiflora edulis, a tropical fruit species. A total of 250 different TE sequences were identified (96% Class I, and 4% Class II), corresponding to similar to 19% of the P. edulis draft genome. TEs were found preferentially in intergenic spaces (70.4%), but also overlapping genes (30.6%). LTR-RTs accounted for 181 single elements corresponding to similar to 13% of the draft genome. A phylogenetic inference of the reverse transcriptase domain of the LTR-RT revealed association of 37 elements with the Copia superfamily (Angela, Ale, Tork, and Sire) and 128 with the Gypsy (Del, Athila, Reina, CRM, and Galadriel) superfamily, and Del elements were the most frequent. Adenia is an Old World genus of Passifloroideae closely related to Passiflora. The two genera comprise the large majority of Passifloroideae species, although most studies are concentrated on Passiflora. Cytological analyses reveal that changes in chromosome numbers played an important role in the evolution of Passiflora, whereas in the remaining genera little is known, hindering the identification of the base number of the family. Here we analyzed the chromosome number and the 35S rDNA sites of three species of Adenia and reevaluated the base number (x) of the subfamily Passifloroideae and the family Passifloraceae, including chromosome data for Turneroideae and Malesherbioideae. The chromosome number of Adenia species seemed to be stable with 2n = 24 or 48 and one or two pairs of rDNA sites, very similar to Passiflora subgenus Astrophea, suggesting a common ancestral karyotype with x = 12. Differently, Turneroideae and Malesherbioideae present x = 7. A whole genomic duplication detected after the separation of Passifl oroideae and Malesherbioideae suggests that the base number of Passifl oraceae most probably was x = 7, which by dysploidy and polyploidy generated x = 12 for the subfamily Passifl oroideae. O presente estudo e uma revisao bibliografica, descritiva e exploratoria sobre os beneficios do maracuja, fruto das plantas do genero Passiflora , especialmente a Passiflora edulis , em individuos com diabetes. Essa doenca e caracterizada por uma desordem metabolica nos niveis de glicemia e seu tratamento consiste em manter os niveis de glicose estaveis para que nao ocorram complicacoes. Alem dos tratamentos medicamentosos, as pesquisas buscam opcoes naturais para o controle e tratamento do diabetes, incluindo os fitoterapicos. O maracuja e um fruto conhecido por seus inumeros beneficios para a saude e pelo seu teor de nutrientes, e atualmente vem sendo estudado no diabetes. A partir desta planta sao feitos medicamentos e alimentos, como a farinha da sua casca, para o uso da populacao. Entre os seus possiveis beneficios no diabetes, destacam-se as suas acoes hipoglicemiante e na resistencia a insulina, alem de efeitos anti-inflamatorio e antioxidante, discutidos na presente revisao. Diante disso, os estudos demonstram uma acao interessante do maracuja em individuos com diabetes. Entretanto, mais estudos em humanos e com bons desenhos metodologicos se fazem necessarios para comprovar essa eficacia.

Os objetivos deste trabalho foram avaliar a flutuação populacional da mosca-do-botão-floral no maracujazeiro-azedo, e a eficiência de armadilhas adesivas amarelas na captura da praga em diferentes alturas em relação ao nível do solo. Na safra 2017/18 foram instaladas armadilhas adesivas amarelas a diferentes alturas (1 e 2 m) em pomares de maracujazeiro-azedo, com áreas entre um e dois hectares, situados em diferentes municípios produtores do Estado de Santa Catarina e Rio Grande do Sul. A armadilha adesiva amarela foi eficiente na captura da praga sendo a altura de 2 m a mais representativa. O pico populacional da praga ocorreu no mês de novembro e os municípios com maior infestação foram Araquari e Sombrio, em Santa Catarina e em Torres, Rio Grande do Sul. Estudos mais aprofundados são necessários para que se possa recomendar um nível de controle a partir do número de moscas capturadas/armadilha/período.

The carpel is the female reproductive structure composed of a set of stigma, style and ovary. Normally passionflower have three carpels, however, some cultivars have this structure in greater quantity. The objective of this work was to identify relationships between the number of carpels and the physical characteristics of BRS Gigante Amarelo fruits. The flowers with three and four carpels were marked, pollinated and the fruits harvested from these flowers analyzed for transverse diameter, longitudinal diameter, pericarp thickness, fruit mass, pulp mass, pulp ratio, number and weight of seeds. A completely randomized design with 10 replicates per treatment was used and each plot had the average of 3 fruits. The data were submitted to variance analysis and the means were compared by the Tukey test at 5% of probability. The fruits generated by flowers with 4 carpels were 18,30% heavier, their pulp were on average 20.75% heavier, presented transverse diameter 7,53% superior to that of fruits generated by flowers with 3 carpels. Similar increments were identified regarding the number of seeds and the weight of seeds per fruit that increased 18,85% and 52.42%, respectively. This result indicates that cv. BRS Yellow Giant with 4 carpels generates heavier fruits, pulp and seeds with a more spherical shape. O carpelo é a estrutura reprodutiva feminina composta por um conjunto de estigma, estilete e ovário. Normalmente as flores de maracujá possuem três carpelos, porém, algumas flores de algumas cultivares apresentam essa estrutura em maior quantidade. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se identificar relações entre o número de carpelos e as características físicas dos frutos da cultivar BRS Gigante Amarelo. Flores com três e quatro carpelos foram marcadas, polinizadas e os frutos colhidos a partir destas flores foram analisados quanto ao diâmetro transversal, diâmetro longitudinal, espessura do pericarpo, massa do fruto, massa da polpa, rendimento de polpa, número e massa das sementes. Foi utilizado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com 10 repetições por tratamento sendo cada parcela a média de 3 frutos. Os dados foram submetidos a análises de variância e as médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade. Os frutos gerados por flores com 4 carpelos foram 18,30% mais pesados, sua polpa foi em média 20,75% mais pesada, apresentaram diâmetro transversal 7,53% superior, ao de frutos gerados por flores com 3 carpelos. O mesmo acréscimo foi identificado quanto ao número de sementes e a massa das sementes por fruto que aumentaram 18,85% e 52,42%, respectivamente. Este resultado indica que flores da cv. BRS Gigante Amarelo com 4 carpelos geram frutos, polpa e sementes mais pesados com formato mais arredondado.

International audience; AbstractThe commercial use of pollinators can be beneficial to many crops. In the case of passion fruit, the supply of nests of Xylocopa frontalis in crop areas was shown to be effective for the improvement of the production and quality of fruits, but little is known about how the manipulation of native bees could change the genetic patrimony of local populations. The aim of this study was to describe the genetic composition of X. frontalis bees attracted to two agroecosystems, one natural reserve and one urban area based on mitochondrial DNA (partial sequencing of the gene cytochrome oxidase I) and microsatellite markers. One of the study areas comprised most of the exclusive haplotypes (50%); however, the microsatellite data showed no structuring between areas. Based on our data, we suggest a plan for exchanging nests of X. frontalis to passion fruit areas taking into account the genetic composition of local populations, avoiding then disturbances to their natural genetic patrimony.

RESUMO: Há séculos, populações de plantas vem sendo selecionadas a fim de se obter linhagens com maior desempenho agronômico. Para o sucesso da seleção, a variabilidade genética é essencial, sendo que dentro do gênero Passiflora há grande variabilidade inter e intraespecífica. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar as características físicas de frutos de genótipos elite de maracujazeiro-doce (Passiflora alata) para fins de seleção. Foram avaliadas a massa, diâmetros longitudinal e equatorial de frutos, espessura e coloração da casca e massa e volume de polpa com e sem sementes e rendimentos de polpa. As fontes de variação para análise de variância foram os frutos de oito genótipos elite, com três repetições, cujas médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey a 1% de probabilidade. Foram realizadas ainda análises multivariadas e de correlação entre as características. Houve diferenças estatísticas entre os genótipos elite para a maioria das características avaliadas. O genótipo elite sete foi o que apresentou maior rendimento de polpa sem sementes, em relação ao fruto e maior massa de fruto. Análises de agrupamento e dispersão gráfica evidenciaram uma tendência de agrupamento dos genótipos elite com base no formato dos frutos. A população apresenta variabilidade genética, que permite novos ciclos de seleção para ganho em rendimento de polpa e massa dos frutos. ABSTRACT: Over several past centuries, specific plant populations have been carefully selected to filter strains with higher agronomic performance. Genetic variability is most essential for successful selection. The Passiflora genus offers great inter- and intra-specific variability. This study aimed to evaluate the physical characteristics of the genotypes of the elite passion fruit (Passiflora alata) for selection purpose. We considered the physical traits of fruit mass, longitudinal and equatorial diameters, peel thickness and color, and pulp mass and volume without and with seeds and pulp yield. The sources of variation for the analysis of variance included the fruits of 8 elite genotypes, with 3 replications, whose means were compared by Tukey?s test at 1% probability. We also performed multivariate analysis and correlation between these characteristics. Statistical differences were noted between elite genotypes for most of the tested traits. The elite 7 genotype presented with the highest seedless pulp yield in relation to the fruit and the largest fruit mass. Cluster analysis and graphic dispersion revealed a tendency for clustering of the elite genotypes based on their fruit shape. RESUMO: O Brasil é considerado o centro de origem e de diversidade das passifloras, que apresentam importância, tanto para o consumo in natura, industrialização, uso medicinal e também como plantas ornamentais. As diferentes espécies de Passiflora hospedam uma grande diversidade de artrópodes que, ocasionando injúrias, podem causar danos econômicos e morte da planta. Dentre os artrópodes, as lagartas-desfolhadoras são consideradas as pragas mais frequentes e severas nas principais regiões produtoras de maracujá. Assim, o objetivo foi informar o primeiro registro da ocorrência das espécies Isia alcumena, Spodoptera cosmioides e S. eridania atacando maracujazeiros no Distrito Federal, Brasil. As lagartas de S. cosmioides e S. eridania foram coletadas enquanto consumiam folhas de híbridos intraespecíficos de Passiflora edulis cultivado no banco ativo de germoplasma ?Flor da Paixão? da Embrapa Cerrados. Já as lagartas de I. alcumena foram coletadas em folhas da cultivar BRS Rubi do Cerrado, na Unidade de Apoio da Fruticultura da Embrapa Cerrados. Após a coleta, as lagartas foram individualizadas em sistema de criação com folhas das plantas hospedeiras. O desenvolvimento das lagartas foi acompanhado até à emergência dos adultos, que foram identificados e fixados em alfinetes entomológicos para preservação permanente, a seco. The different Passiflora speciesare host of a great diversity of arthropods that can cause injuries, economic damages and, in some situations, the plant death. Among the arthropods, leafhopper caterpillars are considered frequent and severe pests in the main passion fruit producing regions. The present work is an occurrence report of Isia alcumena and Spodoptera cosmioides attacking passion fruit plants (Passiflora edulis Sims) in the Federal District, Brazil. The S. cosmioides and S. eridania caterpillars were collected while consuming leaves of Passiflora edulis intra-specific hybrid located in the Germplasm Active Bank ?Flor da Paixão? at Embrapa Cerrados. The caterpillars of I. alcumena were collected on leaves of the Passiflora edulis cv. BRS Rubi do Cerrado at the Agricultural Support Unit, Embrapa Cerrados. After collected, the caterpillars were individualized in a breeding system with leaves of the host plants. The development of the caterpillar was accompanied until the emergence of the adults, which were identified and fixed in entomological pins for permanent dry preservation. Dithiocarbamates are widely used fungicides, including in passion fruit, whose fruits are mainly used for juice production, the leaves for the preparation of herbal tea and medicines. Also, the use of the peel in the food industry has been proposed. In this study, the spectrophotometric method for determination of dithiocarbamate residues, as CS2, in passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) was validated at a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.05 mg kg-1 CS2, and 108 samples (55 fruits and 53 leaves) collected from Brazilian growers were analyzed. About 25% of the fruit peel samples were positive (0.06 to 1.4 mg kg-1) and only one sample had residues in the pulp (0.09 mg kg-1), 43.4% of leaf samples contained residues. Washing of fruit reduced the residues in the peel by up to 100%, and drying the leaves increased residue levels by up to 60%. This is the first study that reports dithiocarbamate residues in passion fruit in Brazil, and the results are important for government authorities when planning monitoring programs, and for food and herbal medicine industries.

The propagation of many passion fruit species (Passiflora spp.) is done by seeds or sexual method, although asexual propagation, such stem cuttings, grafting or tissue culture is also possible and very useful in many cases. In this work, it was presented information on scientific and technological advances in sexual and asexual propagation of passion fruit, considering the different propagation methods and their applications. New demands for research and development activities are also related, given the wide range of passion fruit species and its potential for food, ornamental and medicinal use. Objetivou-se avaliar a criopreservacao de sementes de especies de Passiflora, utilizando-se diferentes crioprotetores. Foi utilizado o Delineamento Inteiramente Casualizado, com quatro tratamentos (T1 - DMSO a 7%; T2 - sacarose a 0,3 M; T3 - armazenamento em NL2 sem crioprotetor; T4 - controle) e cinco repeticoes de 50 sementes. As sementes foram armazenadas durante 120 horas em NL2 (-196 °C), realizou-se o descongelamento em banho-maria (37 °C) durante 20 minutos, e prosseguiram-se os testes de germinacao e vigor. Os dados foram submetidos a analise de variância e teste de Tukey (5% probabilidade) pelo programa SISVAR. Em sementes de P. mucronata, P. suberosa e P. edulis foram obtidas respostas favoraveis a criopreservacao sem o uso de crioprotetores, e em P. micropetala houve perda consideravel do potencial germinativo apos armazenamento em NL2. Diante disso, a criopreservacao pode ser utilizada para conservacao em longo prazo de sementes de Passiflora mucronata, P. suberosa e P. edulis, sem o uso de crioprotetores.

RESUMO O maracujá-amarelo (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg) é considerado um alimento funcional, visto que, além de funções nutricionais, desempenha ações em vias metabólicas específicas. A farinha da casca do maracujá-amarelo (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg) é rica em pectina. Esta fibra reduz a absorção de glicídios e lipídios, influenciando no metabolismo destes nutrientes. Portadores de patologias associadas às alterações no metabolismo glicêmico e lipidêmico têm utilizado este recurso de forma indiscriminada. Porém, substâncias designadas glicosídeos cianogênicos, presentes na casca do fruto são tóxicas ao organismo e prejudiciais à saúde. Ademais, o uso exacerbado de agrotóxicos na produção do maracujá é preocupante e a ingestão destes compostos também pode acarretar complicações à saúde. Portanto, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi sintetizar o conhecimento disponível referente aos efeitos terapêuticos e colaterais da suplementação com a farinha da casca do maracujá-amarelo (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg). Foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica nas bases de dados indexadas SCIELO, LILACS e PUBMED, sem limitação quanto ao período de publicação. Os estudos inclusos no trabalho, de forma unânime, apresentam eficácia da suplementação com a farinha da casca do maracujá-amarelo. A trituração da casca do fruto, realizada no processo de obtenção da farinha, é incapaz de promover redução de glicosídeos cianogênicos e agrotóxicos, permitindo que os indivíduos submetidos à suplementação estejam susceptíveis aos efeitos tóxicos destes compostos. Dessa forma, o desenvolvimento de estudos que avaliem a toxicidade da suplementação por períodos crônicos é de suma importância. Referente ao uso de agrotóxicos, a produção da farinha com frutos orgânicos pode ser uma alternativa para atenuar a toxicidade, sendo necessária a elucidação desta hipótese através de estudos. The yellow passion fruit peel flour (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg) is rich in pectin. This fiber reduces the absorption of carbohydrates and lipids, influencing the metabolism of these nutrients. Individuals affected by pathologies associated with alterations in the metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates have used this resource indiscriminately, however, substances called cyanogenic glycosides, present in the fruit peel, are toxic to the body and harmful to health. In addition, the overuse of pesticides in passion fruit production is becoming worrisome and the ingestion of these compounds can also cause negative health implications. Therefore, the aim of this study was to synthesize the available knowledge regarding the therapeutic effects and side effects of supplementation with the yellow passion fruit peel flour (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg). A literature review was conducted from the indexed databases SCIELO, LILACS and PUBMED, without limitation to the publication period. The studies included in the work, unanimously, have effectiveness of supplementation with yellow passion fruit peel flour (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg). The crushing of the fruit peel, performed in the process of obtaining flour, is unable to promote a reduction of cyanogenic glycosides and pesticides, causing individuals undergoing supplementation to be susceptible to the toxic effects of these compounds. Thus, this study’s development to evaluate the toxicity of supplementation for chronic periods is very important. With reference to the use of pesticides, flour production with organic fruits can be an alternative to attenuate toxicity and it is necessary to elucidate this hypothesis through this study.

The yellow passionfruit (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarcarpa Deg.) is important culture in Brazilian Amazon agriculture, especially in the state of Pará. But its cultivation has been suffering the reduction of its areas and productivity due the diseases caused by bacteria, where chemical control, sometimes does not present the expected results. The propolis of Africanized bees (Apis mellifera L.) is an important natural antibiotic for the control of undesirable microorganisms of plants and animals. The present work aimed at the in vitro study of the antibiotic activity of different propolis extracts of Africanized bees from two different locations in the state of Pará in the agent that causes the passionfruit bacterial blight (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. passiflorae). A factorial analysis of three factors was performed: origin X solvent X concentration. It was verified that the concentrations of 0.5% were statistically superior to the others, with average growth inhibition power of 86%, and the propolis extract from an apiary in Santa Izabel do Pará, Pará, Brazil, obtained in ethanol at 80%, was statistically different and superior for the inhibitory effect of the growth of colony forming units (CFU) of X. axonopodis pv. passiflorae. El maracuyá amarillo (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarcarpa Deg.) es una cultura importante en la agricultura de la Amazonía brasileña, especialmente en el estado de Pará. Pero su cultivo ha sufrido una reducción de sus áreas y productividad debido enfermedades causadas por bacterias, en las que el control químico, en ocasiones, no presenta los resultados esperados. Se ha demostrado que el propóleo de abejas africanizadas (Apis mellifera L.) es un importante antibiótico natural en el control de microorganismos indeseables de plantas y animales. El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo estudiar in vitro la actividad antibiótica de diferentes extractos de propóleo de abejas africanizadas de dos localizaciones distintas del estado de Pará sobre el agente causante de la mancha bacteriana de la maracuyá (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. passiflorae). Se realizó un análisis factorial de tres factores: origen X solvente X concentración. Se encontró que las concentraciones de 0.5% fueron estadísticamente superiores a las demás, con un poder inhibidor del crecimiento promedio de 86%, y el extracto de propóleo del apiario de Santa Izabel do Pará, Pará, Brasil, obtenido en etanol al 80%, demostró un efecto inhibidor estadísticamente diferente y superior sobre el crecimiento de unidades formadoras de colonias (UFC) de X. axonopodis pv. passiflorae. O maracujá-amarelo (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarcarpa Deg.) é uma cultura importante na agricultura da Amazônia brasileira, especialmente no estado do Pará. Mas o seu cultivo tem sofrido uma redução de suas áreas e produtividade devido às doenças causadas por bactérias, em que o controle químico, às vezes, não apresenta os resultados esperados. A própolis de abelhas africanizadas (Apis mellifera L.) tem se mostrado um importante antibiótico natural no controle de microrganismos indesejáveis de plantas e animais. PT-BR: Cultivares de maracujazeiro-amarelo desenvolvidas ou adaptadas regionalmente podem contribuir para o aumento da produtividade e da produção de frutos de qualidade, atendendo às necessidades do mercado e à remuneração dos produtores. Diante disto, objetivou-se avaliar as características físico-químicas de frutos de maracujazeiro-amarelo colhidos em diferentes estádios de maturação. Foram utilizados frutos de maracujazeiro-amarelo, cultivar BRS Gigante Amarelo, produzidos em Terra Nova do Norte (MT). O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados, num esquema fatorial 4 × 4 (estádios de maturação e períodos de avaliação), com quatro blocos. Foram avaliadas características físicas (massa, comprimento e diâmetro do fruto e coloração da casca) e químicas (sólidos solúveis totais, acidez total titulável e ratio) dos frutos. Os dados foram submetidos a análise de variâncias, e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade. Os frutos de maracujazeiro-amarelo cultivar BRS Gigante Amarelo colhidos em diferentes estádios de maturação apresentam aumento nos índices de cor (croma e Hue), no teor de sólidos solúveis totais e ratio, e redução da acidez total titulável conforme ocorre o amadurecimento dos frutos. Yellow passion fruits, cultivar BRS Gigante Amarelo, were produced in Terra Nova do Norte city, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The experimental design was a randomized complete block, in 4 × 4 factorial scheme (maturation stages and evaluation periods), with four blocks. Physical (mass, length, and diameter of the fruit, and peel color) and chemical (total soluble solids, total titratable acidity and ratio) characteristics of the fruit were evaluated. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and the means were compared by the Tukey test at 5% probability. The fruits of yellow passion fruit, cultivar BRS Gigante Amarelo, harvested at different stages of maturation present an increase in the color indexes (chroma and Hue), total soluble solids content and ratio, and reduction of the titratable total acidity, as fruit maturation occurs. In addition, fruits harvested at all maturation stages present a condition of industrialization immediately or after 3 days of storage, while fruits harvested at maturation stage 4 present more interesting color characteristics for in-natura trade, regardless of the storage period. Passiflora cincinnata Mast. or Caatinga passion fruit is widely cultivated in the northeastern semi-arid regions of Goiás, Minas Gerais, and Bahia. The system of cultivation and field management of the Passiflora species affects the physicochemical quality of its fruits. In this study, we evaluated the chemical and physico-chemical characteristics of the fruits of 2 progenies (CPEF2220 and CBAF2334) of P. cincinnata species using the vertical and horizontal trellis system. Fruits were collected from the plants at their physiological maturation stage and tested for the fruit skin color and texture and the pH, total soluble solids, titratable acidity, pulp acidity ratio, and the contents of flavonoids, anthocyanins, and polyphenols in the seedless fruit pulp. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 x 2 factorial scheme (progenies x conduction system) performed in 3 replications using 4 plants in each. The analysis of variance and the means were compared using the Tukey?s test at 5% probability. The results revealed that the CBAF2334 fruits presented with greener pigments and greater flavonoids. The fruits were characterized by their green color with some yellowish nuances and a low color saturation in both the progenies. The conduction system was not found to affect the physical and physicochemical characteristics as well as the anthocyanin and polyphenol contents of the studied species. The fruits of plants cultivated on vertical trellis presented with 56.73% more flavonoid content than those cultivated on horizontal trellis. A região de cultivo e os sistemas de manejo das espécies do gênero Passiflora podem interferir na qualidade físico-química dos frutos. Objetivou-se avaliar características físico-química e química dos frutos de duas progênies (CPEF220 e CBAF2334) selecionadas de P. cincinnata conduzidas em espaldeira e latada. Frutos no estádio de maturação fisiológica foram avaliados quanto à coloração e textura da casca, pH, sólidos solúveis totais, acidez titulável, ratio, flavonoides, antocianinas e polifenóis da polpa sem sementes. Foi utilizado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 2 (progênies x sistemas de condução), com três repetições de quatro plantas. Foi realizada a análise de variância, e as médias foram comparadas utilizando o teste de Tukey, a 5% de probabilidade. Os frutos da seleção CBAF2334 apresentaram mais pigmentos verdes e mais flavonoides. Os frutos foram caracterizados de coloração verde com nuances amareladas, com baixa saturação de cor, nas duas populações. O sistema de condução não afetou as características físicas, físico-química e os teores de antocianinas e polifenóis das progênies de P. cincinnata. RESUMO: As flores do maracujazeiro-azedo normalmente apresentam três carpelos, porém há indivíduos com maior quantidade de carpelos em suas estruturas reprodutivas e pouco se sabe da influência dessa característica na cultura. Plantas de maracujazeiro-azedo (Passiflora edulis Sims, cultivar BRS Sol do Cerrado), que apresentam flores com três, quatro e cinco carpelos, foram avaliadas quanto: à eficiência de polinização manual e natural; à frequência dos diferentes tipos de flores no pomar; à inclinação dos estiletes. As frequências de flores com três, quatro e cinco carpelos também foram avaliadas nos genitores da referida cultivar. Não foram observadas diferenças estatísticas significativas na eficiência de polinização entre os diferentes tipos de flores, as quais apresentaram médias acima de 90%, destacando-se a média de 100% das flores com cinco carpelos. As flores com três carpelos são predominantes na cultivar estudada, representando 88,93%, porém flores com quatro e cinco carpelos não apresentaram estiletes sem inclinação, enquanto flores com três carpelos apresentaram taxa de 11,83%. Apenas o genitor masculino da cultivar destaca-se quanto à taxa de flores com quatro e cinco carpelos, sendo de 37,33% e 7,33%, respectivamente. Assim, flores com quatro e cinco carpelos representam importantes características para o melhoramento genético do maracujazeiro. ABSTRACT: Passion fruit flowers usually have three carpels, but there are individuals with greater amount of carpels in their reproductive structures and little is known about the influence of this characteristic on this crop. Sour passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims, ?BRS Sol do Cerrado? cultivar) plants presenting flowers with three, four and five carpels were evaluated regarding the following characteristics: manual and natural pollination efficiency; frequency of different types of flowers in the orchard; and inclination of styles. Frequencies of flowers with three, four and five carpels were also evaluated in ?BRS Sol do Cerrado? genitors. There were no statistically significant differences in pollination efficiency among the different types of flowers, which presented averages above 90%, especially flowers with five carpels, with 100% efficiency. Flowers with three carpels are predominant in ?BRS Sol do Cerrado? cultivar, representing 88.93%, but flowers with four and five carpels did not show styles without inclination, whereas flowers with three carpels presented rate of 11.83%. Only the male genitor stands out for the rate of flowers with four and five carpels, being 37.33% and 7.33%, respectively. The Passiflora genus comprises more than 500 species that are used for food, industrial, ornamental, and pharmaceutical purposes. The sour passion fruit (P. edulis Sims) has low genetic variability for disease resistance, and the use of wild species in the cross-breeding basis is a promising alternative for introgression of resistance genes. The objective of this study was to characterize multispecific hybrids and wild materials with potential to be used as parents in passion fruit genetic breeding programs, using microsatellite markers. Genomic DNA from 33 accessions was extracted and analyzed using 23 microsatellite markers, which were used to estimate the genetic dissimilarities among accessions. The genetic dissimilarity matrices were used to perform clustering analysis by dendrogram using the Unweighted Pair-Group Method as grouping criterion and by graphic dispersion based on multidimensional scale, using the principal coordinates method. Genetic distances between accessions ranged from 0.067 to 1.00. The markers indicated genetic variability among the studied accessions and also the efficiency of the recurrent genome recovery within the backcross program. The genetic structure among the accessions shows the clustering tendency between the wild accessions of P. hatschbachii and P. quadrifaria and the accessions obtained by crossing these species. The same occurred for P. incarnata and P. edulis accessions. The knowledge generated by the molecular characterization provides information on the diversity of accessions and contributes to the work of breeders in the selection of parents.

In Brazil, passion flower is grown across almost the entire country. The predominant disease of the passion flower cropis passion fruit woodiness, caused by the potyvirus cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus (CABMV), and transmitted byaphids in a nonpersistent manner. The disease reduces the useful life of the orchard from 36 months to approximately18 months. Up to now, there has not been an efficient method for disease management. The aim of this work was toevaluate the efficiency of systematic roguing of diseased plants through weekly inspections, for disease management inthe field. The latent and incubation periods of CABMV in passion flower vines were determined in order to optimizeroguing efficiency. Passion fruit plants inoculated with CABMV started to act as sources of inoculum from 3 days afterinoculation (DAI), and the symptoms were expressed, on average, at 8 DAI. Five field experiments, conducted in thestates of S~ao Paulo and Bahia, Brazil, demonstrated that systematic roguing of diseased plants was significantly efficientfor managing passion fruit woodiness disease. In order to facilitate identification and subsequent removal of theinfected plants, they need to be grown separately. This cultural practice can be recommended for managing passionfruit woodiness disease, provided it is applied on a regional scale by all passion fruit growers. The development ofsome pilot plantings for the application of roguing in a passion flower-producing region is recommended to validatethe use of this technique for managing passion fruit woodiness disease. Baculoviruses are capable of infecting a wide diversity of insect pests. In the 1990s, the Dione juno nucleopolyhedrovirus (DijuNPV) was isolated from larvae of the major passionfruit defoliator pest Dione juno juno (Nymphalidae) and described at ultrastructural and pathological levels. In this study, the complete genome sequence of DijuNPV was determined and analyzed. The circular genome presents 122,075 bp with a G + C content of 50.9%. DijuNPV is the first alphabaculovirus completely sequenced that was isolated from a nymphalid host and may represent a divergent species. It appeared closely related to Orgyia pseudotsugata multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (OpMNPV) and other Choristoneura-isolated group I alphabaculoviruses. We annotated 153 open reading frames (ORFs), including a set of 38 core genes, 26 ORFs identified as present in lepidopteran baculoviruses, 17 ORFs unique in baculovirus, and several auxiliary genes (e.g., bro, cathepsin, chitinase, iap-1, iap-2, and thymidylate kinase). The thymidylate kinase (tmk) gene was present fused to a dUTPase (dut) gene in other baculovirus genomes. DijuNPV likely lost the dut portion together with the iap-3 homolog. Overall, the genome sequencing of novel alphabaculoviruses enables a wide understanding of baculovirus evolution.

Este estudo desenvolveu e validou uma escala diagramática para a avaliação da severidade da bacteriose (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. passiflorae) em frutos do maracujazeiro-azedo (Passiflora edulis). A escala diagramática apresentou oito níveis de severidade (1%, 3%, 5%, 10%, 21%, 38%, 65% e 80%). Para a sua validação, 20 avaliadores foram divididos em grupos (G1 e G3, sem experiência; G2 e G4, com experiência), que inicialmente estimaram a severidade da doença sem auxílio da escala. Posteriormente, G1 e G2 fizeram outra avaliação sem a escala, e G3 e G4 realizaram a avaliação com a escala proposta. A acurácia e a precisão das estimativas foram determinadas por regressão linear simples e pelo coeficiente de correlação de concordância de Lin. O incremento da acurácia foi observado pela redução dos erros constantes e sistemáticos, indicando que as severidades estimadas se aproximaram dos valores reais quando a escala foi utilizada. Os avaliadores inexperientes foram os mais beneficiados pelo uso da escala, sendo que 60% e 100% dos avaliadores apresentaram estimativas sem erros constantes e sistemáticos, respectivamente. O aumento da precisão foi verificado pelo incremento dos coeficientes de determinação, pela redução dos erros absolutos e pelo aumento da reprodutibilidade das estimativas entre pares de avaliadores. This study developed and validated a standard area diagram set (SADs) for severity assessment of bacterial spot (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. ) in passifloraefruits of yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis). The SADs consisted of eight severity levels (1%; 3%; 5%; 10%; 21%; 38%; 65%; and 80%). For its validation, 20 raters, who initially estimated the disease severity without the aid of the SADs, were divided into groups (G1 and G3, inexperienced; G2 and G4, experienced). Subsequently, G1 and G2 performed the second evaluation without the proposed SADs, and G3 and G4 completed the second evaluation using the proposed SADs. The accuracy and precision of the assessments were determined by simple linear regression and by the Lin’s concordance correlation coefficient. The increase in the accuracy was confirmed by the reduction in the constant and systematic errors, indicating that the estimated severities were close to the actual values when the SADs was used. Inexperienced raters benefited the most from the use of the SADs, and 60% and 100% of them presented constant and systematic error-free estimates, respectively. Precision increased with the increase in the coefficient of determination, the reduction in absolute errors, and the increase in the reproducibility of the estimates between pairs of raters.

This study aimed to evaluate the influence of passion fruit by-product (PFBP) and fructooligosaccharides (FOS) on the viability of Streptococcus thermophilus TH-4 and Lactobacillus rhamnosus LGG in folate bio-enriched fermented soy products and their effect on probiotic survival and folate bio-accessibility under in vitro simulated gastrointestinal conditions during storage of the products at 4 °C for up to 28 days (at days 1, 14, and 28). Kinetic parameters and folate contents before and after fermentation were also evaluated. Four different bio-enriched soy products in which the two microorganisms were used in co-cultures were studied and PFBP and/or FOS were added at 1 g/100 g, except for the control product. No differences (p < 0.05) between the fermented soy products (FSP) were observed for the maximum acidification rate (V max ) and the time to reach the V max (T max ) or pH 5.5 (T f ), indicating that the use of PFBP and/or FOS did not affect the fermentation kinetic parameters. Only Lb. rhamnosus LGG retained the desired viability (>8 log CFU/mL) during storage, whereas St. thermophilus TH-4 populations decreased by day 14 reaching counts between 6.4 and 5.5 log CFU/mL by day 28. The folate content of all FSP increased after fermentation and the simultaneous presence of PFBP and FOS stimulated the co-culture to increase folate production. Folate content in all FSP decreased during storage. Lb. rhamnosus LGG was recovered at the end of the simulated digestion, but PFBP and/or FOS did not affect recovery. The folate content increased during the gastrointestinal assay for all FSP, especially for FSP without supplementation, suggesting an in vitro increase of folate bio-accessibility. Therefore, the bio-enriched probiotic FSP presented a great potential as an innovative functional food by delivering probiotic microorganisms and providing 14% of the recommended daily folate intake. The folate content of the FSP might be increased during gastrointestinal stress conditions, which could contribute to increase the folate bio-accessibility in the gut. Wild species of passion fruit have characteristics that could be used in the passiflora culture, among them the production of fruits in the off-season of the sour passion fruit. The objective of this work was to evaluate the phenology of flowers and fruits production in wild species cultivated in the Brazilian Savanna Central Region. For each access, a 1-meter-long strip (2 m2) was evaluated for the presence of flowers and fruits from January 2015 to December 2016. The hybrid and wild species of passiflora that produce floral buds, flowers and fruits during the off-season of passion fruit sour include: BRS Céu do Cerrado (P. incarnata x P. edulis), P. alata Dryand, P. bahiensis Klotzsch, P. coccinea Aubl., P. maliformis L., P. quadriglandulosa Rodschied, P. auriculataKunth, P. decaisneana G. Nicholson, P. sidifolia M. Roem., P. suberosa L., P. tholozanii Sacco, P. quadrangularis x P. alata. It was also verified the presence of species and hybrids with high ornamental potential due to the beauty of their flowers and their production during the whole year, such as: P. suberosa L., P. tholozanii Sacco, P. coccinea x P. setacea, P. coccinea x P. quadrifaria. These species and hybrids have high potential for passiflora breeding programs as a source of genes of interest. Resumo Espécies silvestres de maracujazeiro possuem características que poderiam ser utilizadas na passicultura, dentre elas a produção de frutos na entressafra do maracujazeiro-azedo. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar a fenologia da produção de botões florais, flores e frutos em espécies silvestres cultivadas no Cerrado do Planalto Central. Para cada acesso, uma faixa de 1 metro de espaldeira (2 m2) foi avaliada quanto à presença de botões florais, flores e frutos, de janeiro de 2015 a dezembro de 2016. Verificou-se a presença de maracujazeiros silvestres e híbridos que produzem estruturas reprodutivas no período de entressafra do maracujazeiro-azedo, sendo eles: BRS Céu do Cerrado (P. incarnata x P. edulis), P. alata Dryand, P. bahiensis Klotzsch, P. coccinea Aubl., P. maliformis L., P. quadriglandulosa Rodschied, , P. auriculata Kunth, P. decaisneana G. Nicholson, P. sidifolia M. Roem., P. suberosa L., P. tholozanii Sacco, P. quadrangularis x P. alata. Verificou-se também a presença de espécies e híbridos com elevado potencial ornamental devido à beleza de suas flores e à produção das mesmas durante o ano inteiro, sendo elas: P. suberosa L., P. tholozanii Sacco, P. coccinea x P. setacea e P. coccinea x P. quadrifaria. Estas espécies e híbridos possuem elevado potencial para os programas de melhoramento de passifloráceas como fonte de genes de interesse.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar a produção e a qualidade dos frutos do maracujazeiro-azedo em relação a diferentes densidades de plantio na região de Pelotas/Rio Grande do Sul/Brasil. O experimento foi conduzido no ciclo de 2011/2012, apenas com plantas de um ano, e no ciclo de 2012/2013, avaliaram-se plantas de um e dois anos. Os tratamentos foram estabelecidos de acordo com as seguintes densidades (plantas ha-1): 1.600 (D1); 2.666; 3.200 (D3). No ciclo de 2012/2013, as plantas de dois anos do tratamento D3 foram desbastadas, permanecendo-se com 1.600 plantas ha-1. O tratamento mais adensado, com 3.200 plantas ha-1 e plantas de um ano, apresentou melhor desempenho produtivo, independentemente do ciclo avaliado. As plantas de dois anos (ciclo de 2012/2013) não demonstraram diferença quanto à produtividade e número de frutos por hectare nas densidades avaliadas. A qualidade dos frutos não foi influenciada pelas densidades de plantio em nenhum ciclo avaliado. ABSTRACT The aim was to evaluate the effects of different planting densities of passion fruit on fruit yield and quality in the region of Pelotas/Rio Grande do Sul/Brazil. The experiment was carried out during the 2011/2012 vegetative period only with plants of one year, and during the 2012/2013 vegetative period both plants of one and two years were evaluated. The treatments have been established according to the following planting densities (plants ha-1): 1.600 (D1); 2.666 (D2); 3.200 (D3). ). In the D3 treatment, the plants of two years have been thinned in the 2012/2013 period, remaining 1.600 plants. Independently of the period, the treatment with higher planting density, i.e. 3.200 plants ha-1 and plants of one year, showed better yield. Two years old plants showed no difference in yield as well as in the number of fruits ha-1 between the planting densities, and the fruit quality had been influenced neither by planting densities nor by the vegetative period.

A competitividade no comércio internacional de frutas demanda a minimização de danos pós-colheita, especialmente os causados pela antracnose. Para o controle eficaz da antracnose em uma região é necessário conhecer quais espécies estão associadas a cada hospedeiro e qual a variabilidade dos agentes causais. Este trabalho objetivou caracterizar e identificar isolados de Colletotrichum de frutíferas cultivadas no Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Foram analisados 93 isolados obtidos de abacate, manga, maracujá e pêssego, por meio de morfometria de conídios e colônias e análise molecular (amplificação por PCR com oligonucleotídeos espécie-específicos e análise de sequências de nucleotídeos das regiões ITS e β-tubulina). Alta variabilidade morfométrica foi observada entre os isolados. A análise molecular indicou que, no Estado de São Paulo, as antracnoses do abacate, manga, maracujá e pêssego podem ser causadas por diferentes espécies do complexo C. gloeosporoides, revelando também a presença de C. boninense associada à antracnose do maracujá e de espécies não identificadas dos complexos C. acutatum e C. gloeosporioides causando antracnose em pêssego. ABSTRACTThe state of São Paulo is one of the largest fruit producers in Brazil. Competitiveness in the international trade in fruits has demanded the minimization of postharvest damage, especially that caused by anthracnose. For the effective control of anthracnose in a certain region, it is necessary to know which species are associated with each host and the variability of the causal agents. This study aimed to characterize and identify Colletotrichum isolates from fruit trees grown in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. A total of 93 isolates obtained from avocado, mango, passion fruit and peach were analyzed according to conidium and colony morphology and molecular analysis (PCR amplification with species-specific primers and analysis of nucleotide sequences of the ITS regions and β-tubulin). There was high morphometric variability among isolates. Molecular analysis indicated that, in the state of São Paulo, anthracnose of avocado, mango, passion fruit and peach can be caused by different species of the C. gloeosporoides complex, also revealing the presence of C. boninense associated with passion fruit anthracnose and unidentified species of C. acutatum and C. gloeosporioides complexes causing anthracnose in peach. RESUMOAtualmente, encontram-se quatorze cultivares de maracujazeiro-amarelo no Registro Nacional de Cultivares do Ministério da Agricultura. É de grande importância o aprimoramento de trabalhos de melhoramento genético nessa cultura, para favorecer a disponibilização de novas cultivares adaptadas às regiões produtoras. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produção e as características qualitativas dos frutos de treze híbridos de maracujazeiro-amarelo cultivados no norte do Paraná. As avaliações foram realizadas durante dois ciclos de produção da cultura, de abril a julho de 2009 e de janeiro a julho de 2010, com coletas semanais dos frutos maduros. A produção foi determinada por meio da pesagem dos frutos colhidos e do número de frutos por planta. Para as características qualitativas, foram avaliados: massa, comprimento, diâmetro, relação entre comprimento e diâmetro dos frutos, espessura da casca, rendimento de polpa, teor de sólidos solúveis totais (SST), acidez total titulável (ATT ) e relação SST/ATT . Os híbridos ‘66’ e ‘65’ apresentaram, respectivamente, maior produção e maior número de frutos no acumulado das duas safras. Os frutos do híbrido ‘72’ destacaram-se no atendimento das características desejáveis de qualidade para o consumo in natura, enquanto o híbrido ‘69’ apresentou caracteristicas importantes para a indústria de suco. ABSTRACTNowadays there are fourteen cultivars of yellow passion fruit on the National Register of Cultivars of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture. The improvement of plant breeding in this crop is of great importance to provide new cultivars adapted to the producing regions. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the production and fruit quality of thirteen hybrids of yellow passion fruit plants grown in the northern Paraná. The evaluations were performed during two cycles of crop production from April to July 2009 and from January to July 2010 with weekly harvests of ripe fruits. The production was determined by weighing the total output and counting the number of fruits per plant. The evaluated quality characteristics of the fruits were: weight, length, diameter, diameter/length ratio, thickness, pulp yield, total soluble solids (TSS), total titratable acidity (TTA ) and TSS/TTA ratio. Hybrids ‘66’ and ‘65’ respectively showed the highest yield and greatest number of fruits in the accumulated of the two crops. The fruits of the hybrid ‘72’ stood out on desirable quality characteristics for fresh consumption, while the hybrid ‘69’ showed important features for the juice industry.

RESUMO Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o efeito de fosfito de potássio sobre o crescimento e a densidade micelial de Fusarium solani isolado de maracujazeiros. A verificação do efeito de fosfito de potássio sobre F. solani consistiu na diluição de 0, 1, 10, 50, 100, 250, 500, 750 e 1000 ppm do produto em BDA, com posterior avaliação do crescimento e da densidade micelial do fungo. A influência do pH do meio BDA, no crescimento de F. solani, foi testada pela diluição de ácido clorídrico no meio até a obtenção dos valores de pH idênticos àqueles das placas contendo as concentrações de fosfito de potássio. Após dez dias de incubação foi medido o crescimento do fungo. A mensuração da densidade micelial de F. solani foi realizada por meio da leitura de absorbância a 405 nm, de discos contendo micélio do fungo, em leitor de ELISA. O efeito fungicida ou fungistático de fosfito de potássio foi testado repicando-se o F. solani, proveniente das concentrações que o inibiu, para meio BDA puro e observando o seu posterior crescimento ou não. O fosfito de potássio inibiu o crescimento e a densidade micelial de F. solani, significativamente, a partir de 50 ppm. Não houve diferença significativa no crescimento de F. solani dentro da faixa de pH testada. O F. solani cresceu em meio BDA puro, após ser repicado do meio de cultura contendo as concentrações de fosfito de potássio que o inibiu, indicando ser um efeito fungistático do mesmo sobre o fungo. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of potassium phosphite on the mycelial growth and density of F. solani isolated from passion flower vines. Verification of the potassium phosphite effect on F. solani consisted in diluting 0, 1, 10, 50, 100, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 ppm of the product in PDA medium, subsequently evaluating the mycelial growth and density of the fungus. Influence of the pH of the PDA medium on F. solani growth was tested by diluting hydrochloric acid in the medium until the obtained pH values were identical to those of the plates containing the potassium phosphite concentrations. After ten days of incubation, fungal growth was measured. F. solani mycelial density was measured by reading the absorbance at 405 nm of discs containing fungal mycelium in an ELISA reader. The fungicide or fungistatic effect of potassium phosphite was tested by transferring F. solani, from the concentrations that had inhibited it, to pure PDA medium and by observing whether there was further growth or not. Potassium phosphite significantly inhibited the mycelial growth and density of F. solani, from 50 ppm. There was not any significant difference in F. solani growth within the tested pH range. F. solani grew on pure PDA medium, after its transference from the culture medium containing the potassium phosphite concentration that had inhibited it, which indicates a fungistatic effect on the fungus.

Resumo. A partir de coletas realizadas em área rural no município de Paraíso do Tocantins, TO, foram obtidos exemplares do percevejo-de-renda Gargaphia lunulata (Mayr). Os insetos estavam ocasionando danos em cultivos comerciais de feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) (Fabales: Fabaceae), quiabo [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench] (Malvales: Malvaceae), maracujá (Passiflora edulis Sims) (Malpighiales: Passifloraceae) e também em plantas daninhas conhecidas como flor-do-guarujá (Turnera ulmifolia L.) (Malpighiales: Turneraceae) e fedegoso [Senna alata (L.) Roxb.] (Fabales: Fabaceae). A ocorrência de G. lunulata em feijão, quiabo, flor-do-guarujá e fedegoso é registrada pela primeira vez no Estado, sendo os percevejos-de-renda encontrados com maior densidade populacional em flor-do-guarujá, maracujá e feijão. Resumo: O controle fitossanitário das doenças pode ser considerado um fator decisivo na produção do maracujazeiro. O método químico, associado ao cultural e ao genético, consiste na melhor estratégia para reduzir as perdas provocadas pelas doenças fúngicas, bacterianas e viróticas desta frutífera. No caso do controle químico existem vários fungicidas protetores e sistêmicos disponíveis, com destaque para aqueles formulados com triazóis e estrobilurinas. O controle cultural pode contribuir para a aplicação de fertilização equilibrada, a destruição de restos culturais, a adoção de quebra-ventos, entre outras. Numa perspectiva futura será fundamental a disponibilidade de cultivares resistentes adaptadas às diferentes regiões do Brasil. Abstract: Phytosanitary control of diseases can be considered a crucial factor in the production of passion fruit. The chemical control associated to cultural and genetic approaches, may be the best way to reduce the losses caused by the fungal, bacterial and viral diseases of this fruit. There are several protective and systemic fungicides available for the chemical control, especially triazoles and strobilurins formulations. Recommended cultural control practices would be a balanced fertilization, destruction of cultural remains, adoption of windbreaks, etc. In a future perspective, the availability of resistant cultivars adapted to the different regions of Brazil will be important.

In spite of the importance of passion fruit cultivation in Brazil, this activity has been forced to be itinerant, due to the occurrence of diseases in producing regions, in particular fusariosis. The use of rhizobacteria is a potential control alternative, but other improvements are necessary to guarantee the activity of these bacteria in the field. This study aimed at evaluating the influence of three monocotyledonous groups on the activity of rhizobacteria antagonistic to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. passiflorae (Fop). Rhizobacteria were isolated from passion fruit plants and tested for the production of diffusible and volatile compounds, as well as chitinases that inhibit Fop. From a total of 167 isolates, two produced volatile compounds, 21 diffusible compounds and 32 chitinases. Three compatible combinations of isolates that had at least two action mechanisms against Fop and could grow in a wide pH range were applied in pots with sorghum, millet or maize, in addition to pots left fallow (control), in a greenhouse. The microbial biomass carbon, soil basal respiration, metabolic quotient and activity of the acid phosphatase enzyme were evaluated. The interaction between the cultivated species and rhizobacterial combinations was significant only for the metabolic quotient, whose values tended to be higher under millet cultivation in combination 3 (R77/R95/R104/R120), the most metabolically diversified one. The highest activity of acid phosphatase was also obtained with millet. The results for enzymatic activity and metabolic quotient indicate that millet provides a greater activity of the antagonists in the soil. RESUMO Apesar da importância da passicultura no Brasil, essa atividade foi forçada a ser itinerante, devido à ocorrência de doenças nas regiões produtoras, em particular a fusariose. O uso de rizobactérias é uma alternativa de controle potencial, mas outras ações são necessárias para garantir a atividade dessas bactérias no campo. Objetivou-se avaliar a influência de três culturas monocotiledônicas sobre a atividade de rizobactérias antagonistas a Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. passiflorae (Fop). As rizobactérias foram isoladas de maracujazeiro e testadas para a produção de compostos difusíveis e voláteis, bem como quitinases que inibem Fop. De um total de 167 isolados, dois produziram compostos voláteis, 21 compostos difusíveis e 32 quitinases. Três combinações compatíveis de isolados que possuíam pelo menos dois mecanismos de ação contra Fop, e podiam crescer em ampla faixa de pH, foram aplicadas em vasos com sorgo, milho ou milheto, além de vasos em pousio (controle), em casa-de-vegetação. Avaliaram-se o carbono da biomassa microbiana, respiração basal do solo, quociente metabólico e atividade da enzima fosfatase ácida. A interação entre as espécies cultivadas e as combinações de rizobactérias foi significativa apenas para o quociente metabólico, cujos valores tendem a ser superiores no cultivo de milheto na combinação 3 (R77/R95/R104/R120), a mais diversificada metabolicamente. A mais alta atividade de fosfatase ácida também foi obtida com milheto. Os resultados relativos à atividade enzimática e quociente metabólico indicam que o milheto proporciona maior atividade dos antagonistas no solo.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence the N and K doses on productivity and fruit quality of different passion fruit cultivars in irrigated conditions in the northern of Minas Gerais state. The study was installed at experimental farm located in Janaúba-MG. This area was located at 15º 47’ S and 43º 18’ W, 516 m above sea level. The experiment was in completely randomized block with four replications, arranged in 4 x 6 factorial design consisting of four Passion Fruit cultivars (BRS Sol do Cerrado, BRS Ouro Vermelho, BRS Gigante Amarelo, IAC 275) and six N and K doses, which corresponded to 0-0, 50-125, 100-250, 150-375, 200 -500 and 250-625 kg ha-1 yr-1 of N and K2O, respectively. BRS Gigante Amarelo and BRS Sol do Cerrado cultivars showed higher productivity. Total fruit yield and average fruit weight were higher for BRS Sol do Cerrado and IAC 275, BRS Gigante Amarelo and BRS Ouro Vermelho cultivars, respectively. IAC 275 showed the highest pulp yield and along with BRS Sol do Cerrado, showed the higher soluble solids/titratable acidity ratio. BRS Sol do Cerrado, BRS Gigante Amarelo and IAC 275 cultivars showed higher pulp productivity, indicating that they are more promising for passion fruit juice industry. Estudos com doses de nitrogênio e potássio em cultivares de maracujazeiro amarelo com alto potencial produtivo são escassos nas regiões semiáridas. Objetivou-se avaliar a influência das doses de N e K na produtividade e qualidade de frutos de diferentes cultivares de maracujazeiro irrigado, na região norte do Estado de Minas Gerais. O estudo foi instalado no município de Janaúba-MG e seguiu o delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, sendo as unidades experimentais arranjadas em esquema fatorial 4 x 6 consistindo de quatro cultivares de maracujazeiro (BRS Sol do Cerrado, BRS Ouro Vermelho, BRS Gigante Amarelo, IAC 275) e seis doses de N e K, correspondentes a 0-0, 50-125, 100-250, 150-375, 200-500 e 250-625 kg ha-1 ano-1 de N e K2O, respectivamente. O diâmetro médio do fruto, teor de sólidos solúveis, acidez titulável, pH e coloração dos frutos não apresentam diferença entre as cultivares estudadas e doses utilizadas de N e K. As cultivares BRS Gigante Amarelo e BRS Sol do Cerrado obtiveram maior produtividade. A produção total de frutos por hectare e o peso médio dos frutos foram superiores nas cultivares BRS Sol do Cerrado e IAC 275, BRS Gigante Amarelo e BRS Ouro vermelho, respectivamente. A cultivar IAC 275 teve maior rendimento em polpa e juntamente com a BRS Sol do Cerrado apresentaram maiores relações sólidos solúveis/acidez titulável. As cultivares BRS Sol do Cerrado, BRS Gigante Amarelo e IAC 275 tiveram maior produtividade de polpa, indicando serem mais promissoras para a indústria de produção de sucos de maracujá.

The development of resistant varieties is a promising strategy for bacterial spot disease (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. passiflorae-Xap) and passion fruit woodiness disease (PWD; Cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus-CABMV) control in sour passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims). This study aimed at evaluating the reaction of 12 sour passion fruit half-sib progenies to both mechanically inoculated Xap and CABMV, under protected cultivation. The bacterial spot and PWD severity degrees observed reveal the existence of variability within progenies. MAR20#2005 and BRS GA1 revealed the lowest bacterial disease severity scores while MAR20#41, MAR20#2005, and Rosa Intenso 1 showed the lowest PWD severity scores. MAR20#41 presented the lowest disease incidence in all evaluations, demonstrating a slow increase in the number of plants with symptoms over time. Also, MAR20#41 stood out as the progeny with the greatest number of plants presenting resistance to PWD at the end of the study. Among the progenies selected, MAR20#2005 was the most promising for presenting the lowest severity scores for both bacterial spot and PWD.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a sobrevivência de oito cultivares de P. edulis Sims. e a reação do maracujazeiro amarelo enxertado sobre Passiflora foetida L. em área com histórico de fusariose (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. passiflorae) na região de Mossoró/RN. Foram conduzidos dois ensaios, onde foram plantadas oito cultivares de maracujazeiro (FB 200, FB 300, BRS Gigante Amarelo, BRS Sol do Cerrado, BRS Rubi do Cerrado, IAC 273, IAC 275 e IAC 277) e uma cultivar comercial ?redondo amarelo? da Topssed® enxertada sobre P. foetida, em área naturalmente infestada com F. oxysporum f. sp. passiflorae. O delineamento experimental adotado foi em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições e três plantas por parcela. No ensaio I foi avaliado a sobrevivência das cultivares e no ensaio II, avaliou-se a incidência da fusariose e a classe de reação, identificando os tratamentos como resistentes, moderadamente susceptíveis e susceptíveis. Todas as cultivares (ensaio I) apresentaram baixos índices de sobrevivência aos 180 dias após o plantio. As cultivares não enxertadas (ensaio II) foram classificadas como susceptíveis, com incidência de fusariose variando de 22,22 a 91,67%. Não houve registro de incidência de fusariose no maracujazeiro enxertado sobre P. foetida (ensaio II) durante o período de avaliação, mostrando-se como um porta-enxerto promissor para solos infestados com Fusarium oxysporum. ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the survival of eight cultivars of P. edulis Sims. and the reaction of yellow passion fruit grafted on Passiflora foetida L. in an area with history of fusariosis (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. passiflorae) in the region of Mossoró/RN. Two assays were conducted, in which eight passion fruit cultivars (FB 200, FB 300, BRS Gigante Amarelo, BRS Sol do Cerrado, BRS Rubi do Cerrado, IAC 273, IAC 275 and IAC 277) were planted and a commercial cultivar ?yellow round? by Topssed® was grafted on P. foetida in an area naturally infested with F. oxysporum f. sp. passiflorae. All cultivars (Assay I) showed low survival rates at 180 days after planting. Non-grafted cultivars (Assay II) were classified as susceptible, and fusariosis incidence ranged from 22.22 to 91.67%. There was no record of fusariosis incidence in passion fruit grafted on P. foetida (Assay II) during the evaluation period, which showed to be a promising rootstock for soils infested with Fusarium oxysporum. Neste estudo, foi avaliada a reação de genótipos de maracujazeiro-azedo (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa) à septoriose (Septoria passiflorae). Para a avaliação da reação dos genótipos, foi utilizado o índice de severidade de doença (1 - plantas sem sintomas; 2 - lesões esparsas nas folhas tomando até 10% do limbo foliar; lesões coalescentes tomando entre 10 a 33% do limbo foliar; 4 - lesões coalescentes tomando mais de 33% do limbo foliar; 5 - desfolha) e porcentagem de desfolha. Foi adotado o delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições e seis plantas por parcela, testando-se 60 genótipos. A inoculação foi feita por aspersão de suspensão de esporos (10(5) conídios/mL) patógeno. Foram feitas seis avaliações em intervalos de 7 dias. Os genótipos que apresentaram menor suscetibilidade foram MAR.20.27, Joseph e MAR.20.36. Entre a nota obtida pelo genótipo de menor suscetibilidade (3,4) e o de maior suscetibilidade (4,5), houve diferença de 31,8%, indicando que há variabilidade entre os genótipos para resistência à septoriose. Entre a maior (81,6%) e a menor (49,9%) porcentagem de desfolha apresentada pelos genótipos, houve diferença de 31,7%. Os genótipos MAR.20.58 e MAR.20.48 foram os mais suscetíveis, com severidade de 4,5 e 4,6 e de desfolha de 81,6% e 81,4%, respectivamente. The objective of this study was to evaluate the reaction of 60 passionfruit (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa Degener) genotypes to septoriosis. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replications and six plants by plot. The inoculation was made by spraying a pathogen suspension (10(5)conidia/ml) on the plants. Six evaluations were made weekly, 18 days after inoculation. The disease severity was evaluated following the disease index (1, no symptoms; 2, leaves showing until 10% of lesion area; 3, leaves showing 10 to 33% of lesion area; leaves showing over 35% of lesion area; 5, leaf fall) and the percentage of leaf fall. The genotypes which showed less susceptibility were MAR.20.27, Joseph and MAR.20.36, whereas the genotypes MAR.20.59 and MAR.20.48 presented the higher index of susceptibility. Between the score obtained by the less susceptible genotype (3.4) and the score obtained by the most susceptible genotype (4.5) in the lesion scale, there was a difference of 31.8%, indicating that there is variability among the genotypes for resistance to septoriosis. The difference between the highest (81.6%) and the lowest (49.9%) percentage of leaf fall was of 31.7%.

Diabetes mellitus, an endocrine disorder, is the major cause of morbidity in developing countries, and it is considered the fourth leading cause of death worldwide. The conventional therapy for diabetes is insulin treatment. The peel of the Passion fruit is rich in fiber and prevents the absorption of carbohydrates, and thus can control and reduce the blood sugar rate. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of the passion fruit peel flour on the glicemia of diabetic rats, as well as to study the probable action mechanisms. Wistar rats were used in the experiment and were offered the flours of the passion fruit peel in three concentrations: 5, 10, and 15%, and a casein diet as control. The most significant effect on the reduction of the glicemic rate was obtained with the 5% diet. The best values of hepatic glycogen were found in the 5 and 10% diets. The results of this study suggest that the 5% passion fruit flour diet was the one that provided the best reduction of blood glucose levels (59%) and the higher increase of the hepatic glycogen level (71%). The conversion of blood glucose into hepatic glycogen was considered the probable action mechanism involved. Diabetes melittus, uma desordem endócrina, é a maior causa de morbidade em países em desenvolvimento e é considerada a quarta causa de mortes no mundo. A terapia convencional para diabetes é o tratamento com insulina. A casca do maracujá é um material rico em fibras, e impede a absorção de carboidratos, podendo, dessa forma, controlar e reduzir a taxa de açúcar no sangue. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar o efeito dessa farinha na glicemia de ratos diabéticos, bem como estudar os prováveis mecanismos de ação. Foram empregados ratos Wistar, aos quais foram oferecidas dietas balanceadas contendo farinhas da casca de maracujá em três concentrações, 5, 10 e 15%, e tendo como controle uma dieta com caseína. A dieta que mostrou maior efeito significativo sobre o controle do diabetes foi a de 5%, proporcionando uma redução de cerca de 60% da glicemia dos animais desse grupo e um aumento de 71% do glicogênio hepático. A conversão de glicose sanguínea em glicogênio hepático foi considerada um dos prováveis mecanismos de ação envolvidos.

O cultivo comercial do maracujá é afetado por diversos problemas fitossanitários, os quais contribuem para quebras de produção e significativa redução da vida útil dos plantios. Em algumas situações, a incidência de doenças pode inviabilizar o cultivo do maracujá. Fontes de resistência a distintas doenças têm sido identificadas em acessos de espécies de Passiflora. Neste trabalho, buscou-se avaliar a diversidade genética de acessos de oito espécies silvestres (P. setacea, P. nitida, P. serratodigitata, P. caerulea, P. gibertii, P. odontophyla, P. edulis e P. coccinea) e de um híbrido interespecífico (P. setacea x P. coccinea), utilizando marcadores moleculares análogos a genes de resistência (RGAs). Verificou-se uma grande diversidade no perfil eletroforético de RGAs nos acessos de Passiflora, permitindo a anotação de 96 amplicons polimórficos entre, pelo menos, um par de acessos. Os níveis de dissimilaridade genética (calculados exclusivamente com os marcadores RGAs) variaram entre 0,40 e 0,89 nos acessos das espécies de Passiflora avaliadas. A análise de sequência de um subgrupo destes amplicons obtidos com primers RGAs indicou que estas bandas correspondem a regiões genômicas que contêm segmentos (motivos) com identidade aos encontrados em genes de resistência previamente caracterizados em outras espécies vegetais. Desta forma, os dados indicam a existência de um repertório variado de marcadores do tipo RGA em Passiflora que podem ser potencialmente úteis em sistemas de caracterização molecular de germoplasma e em programas de melhoramento genético visando à resistência a doenças nesta cultura. The commercial cultivation of passion fruit can be affected by many diseases, which might induce sever fruit yield losses and significant life cycle reduction of the crop. In some situations disease incidence can make the passion fruit production not economically viable. Sources of resistance against several pathogens have been identified in accessions of Passiflora germplasm. In the present research we evaluate by using RGAs ("resistance gene analogs") markers the genetic diversity of accessions belonging to eight wild species (P. setacea, P. nitida, P. serratodigitata, P. caerulea, P. gibertii, P. odontophyla, P. eduli, and P. coccinea) as well as one interspecific hybrid (P. setacea. x P. coccinea). A remarkable diversity was observed among the RGA eletrophoretic profiles of the accessions, allowing the annotation of 96 polymorphic amplicons able to discriminate at least one pair of accessions. The levels of genetic dissimilarity in this group of Passiflora accessions (using exclusively this collection of RGA markers) ranged from 0.40 to 0.89. The sequence analysis of a subgroup of RGA amplicons indicated that they correspond to genomic regions that encompass typical disease resistance gene motifs described in other plant species. Our results indicate a quite variable structural repertoire of RGA segments in Passiflora species with many of them being potentially useful as molecular markers for germplasm fingerprinting systems and also for assisted selection strategies in disease resistance breeding programs in this crop.

Em função da dificuldade de propagação de Passiflora setacea DC., técnicas de cultura de tecidos tornam-se alternativas viáveis. Objetivou-se estudar a germinação in vitro e determinar o melhor meio de cultivo na sua micropropagação. O presente trabalho constou de duas etapas, na primeira as sementes (sem escarificação, escarificadas na extremidade ou na parte mediana) na foram colocadas em % MS e 30 g L-1 de sacarose, distribuído em tubos de ensaio e suplementado com zero, 20 ou 40 mg L-1 de GA3. O pH do meio foi ajustado para 5,8 antes da adição de 6,0 mg L-1 de ágar. Após a inoculação das sementes nos meios de cultura, elas foram mantidas em sala de crescimento com luminosidade de 35 µmol.m-2.s-1, temperatura de 26 ± 1ºC e fotoperíodo de 16 horas. Assim que germinaram, as plântulas foram transferidas para tubos contendo meio MS, onde constituíram um segundo experimento, a fim de se testarem meios combinados com concentrações de sacarose. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 3 x 3, quatro repetições e 15 sementes por parcela no primeiro experimento e 4 x 4, com quatro repetições e 3 plantas por parcela no segundo experimento. Melhores resultados na micropropagação foram obtidos em meio de cultivo MSM, associado a 28,51 e 28,74 g L-1 de sacarose. Maior índice de velocidade de germinação foi verificado com uso de 20 mg L-1 de GA3, associado à escarificação na ponta da semente.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar em casa de vegetação o potencial de enraizamento de diferentes espécies silvestres de maracujá, utilizando diferentes doses de ácido indolilbutírico. Estacas herbáceas de plantas adultas de Passiflora setacea, P. coccinea, P. amethystina, P. edulis, P. edulis x P. setacea e P. coccinea x P. setacea foram coletadas e tratadas com doses de 0; 250; 500; 750 e 1.000 mgL-1 de IBA, sendo em seguida plantadas em bandejas com substrato umedecido e mantidas sob nebulização intermitente. O delineamento experimental adotado foi o de blocos ao acaso, com 5 repetições, em arranjo fatorial de 6 x 5 (seis espécies e cinco níveis de regulador vegetal) e 6 estacas úteis por unidade experimental. As variáveis analisadas foram estaca viva com raiz e com broto (EVCRCB), estaca viva com raiz e sem broto (EVCRSB), estaca viva com calo (EVCC), estaca viva sem calo (EVSC), total de estacas enraizadas (TER), estaca morta com raiz (EMCR), estaca morta com calo (EMCC), estaca morta sem calo (EMSC), total de estaca morta (TEM), estaca com broto (ECB), média de estacas com broto (MEB), massa seca da raiz (MSRA), massa seca do broto (MSBRO) e massa seca total (MSTOTAL). A espécie P. amethystina apresentou o melhor desenvolvimento, destacando-se entre as outras espécies e mostrando potencial para enraizamento, tendo 88,67% de estacas enraizadas e brotadas. O uso do IBA foi eficiente à medida que se aumentavam as doses, proporcionando bom desenvolvimento às estacas das espécies estudadas. The aim of this work was to evaluate under greenhouse conditions, the rooting potential of different wild species of passion fruit using different doses of indolebutyric acid. Herbaceous cuttings of adult plants of Passiflora setacea, P. coccinea, P. amethystina, P. edulis, P. edulis x P. setacea and P. coccinea x P. setacea were collected and treated with doses of 0, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 mgL-1 of IBA, and then planted in trays with moistened substrate and held under intermittent mist. The experimental design was in randomized blocks with 5 replications and 6 x 5 factorial arrangement (six species and five IBA levels) and 6 useful cuttings per experimental unit. The variables observed were rooted living cutting with sprouts (RLCWS), rooted living cutting without sprouts (RLCWOS), living cutting with callus (LCWC), living cutting without callus (LCWOC), total of rooted cuttings (TRC), dead rooted cutting (DRC), dead cutting with callus (DCWC), dead cutting without callus (DCWOC), total of dead cuttings (TDC), cutting with sprouds (CWS), average cuttings with sprouts (ACWS), root dry matter (ROOTDM), sprout dry matter (SPRDM),and total of dry matter (TOTALDM). The P. amethystina species presented better development than other species, showing rooting potential, with 88.67% of cuttings with roots and sprouts. The use of IBA was efficient as the doses were increased, providing a good development for cuttings of the studied species.

The genus Passiflora L. consists of approximately 530 widely distributed species, including Passiflora edulis, which has drawn interest because of its commercial and agronomic value. Passiflora cincinnata is another important species owing to its long flowering period and resistance or tolerance to diseases and pests. In the present study, the meiotic segregation and pollen viability of an interspecific hybrid (P. edulis × P. cincinnata) and its parents were analyzed. The genomic contents were characterized using chromomycin A3 (CMA3)/4′-6′-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining, fluorescent in situ hybridization with 5S/45S ribosomal DNA (rDNA), genomic in situ hybridization (GISH), and inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers. The results indicated the diploid chromosome number for the parents and interspecific hybrid was 2n = 18. We also observed regular meiosis, one pair of 5S rDNA sites, and two pairs of 45S rDNA sites that co-localized with two pairs of CMA3 +/DAPI− bands. The GISH data revealed three distinct chromosomal groups in the hybrid. The genetic origins of the interspecific hybrid, and its relationship with its parents were also confirmed using ISSR markers.

This study aimed to evaluate the genetic divergence among Passiflora cristalina genotypes and quantify the relative contribution of 30 flower and fruit characteristics, seeking to support the preservation and characterization of genetic resources of the species for preservation and use in future breeding programs. We evaluated 150 fruit and 150 flowers collected in 15 genotypes with naturally occurring in the municipality of Alta Floresta, MT. The characterization of genotypes was performed through 30 morphological characteristics of flowers and fruits, 21 of these for flower and 9 for fruit. Data were evaluated using the principal components and cluster methods obtained by UPGMA method from the similarity matrix (Euclidian mean distance), using the Genes software. By principal component analysis, it has been found that the first three components have absorbed 52.11% of the accumulated variation. The characteristics that most contributed to the discrimination of genotypes were fresh fruit weight, stigma length, length of corona filaments, fruit width, petal width and pulp weight, which are more responsive for the selection of P.cristalina genotypes. Smaller contributions to diversity were obtained from anther width, bract width and fruit length. The smallest contributions for diversity were obtained from the following characteristics: anther width, bract width and fruit length. Through UPGMA clustering method, it was found that there is a large genetic divergence among genotypes analyzed because all genotypes were grouped with over 50% of dissimilarity. This study identified genotypes 4, 5 and 9 as the most divergent and therefore the most suitable for breeding in future breeding programs and genetic conservation of the species. RESUMO O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a divergência genética entre genótipos de Passiflora cristalina e quantificar a contribuição relativa de 30 caracteres de flores e frutos, auxiliando o resgate e a caracterização, visando à preservação e o uso em futuros programas de melhoramento. Foram avaliados 150 frutos e 150 flores coletados em 15 genótipos com ocorrência natural, no município de Alta Floresta, MT. A caracterização dos genótipos foi realizada mediante 30 caracteres morfológicos de flores e frutos, sendo 21 destes para flor e 9 para fruto. Os dados foram avaliados utilizando as metodologias dos componentes principais e do agrupamento obtido pelo método UPGMA, a partir da matriz de dissimilaridade (distância euclidiana média), com auxílio do programa Genes. Pela análise dos componentes principais, verificou-se que os três primeiros componentes explicam 52,11% da variação acumulada. As características que mais contribuíram para discriminação dos genótipos foram peso fresco do fruto, comprimento do estigma, comprimento dos filamentos da corona, largura do fruto, largura da pétala e peso da polpa, sendo estes caracteres mais responsivos para seleção dos genótipos de P. cristalina. As menores contribuições para a diversidade foram obtidas dos caracteres largura da antera, largura da bráctea e comprimento do fruto. Por meio do método de agrupamento UPGMA, foi possível constatar que uma grande divergência genética entre os genótipos analisados, uma vez que todos os genótipos se agruparam acima de 50% de dissimilaridade. Com esse estudo, foi possível identificar os genótipos 4; 5 e 9 como os mais divergentes e, consequentemente, os mais indicados para cruzamentos em futuros programas de melhoramento e de conservação genética da espécie.

CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior Bioactive amines were determined in selected passion fruit species and throughout fruit development. The same amines (spermine, spermidine, agmatine, putrescine and tryptamine) were found in four Passiflora species (2008–2010 growing seasons) at different concentrations: P. alata had higher polyamines (spermine + spermidine, 8.41 mg/100 g); P. setacea and P. nitida had higher putrescine (> 7.0 mg/100 g); and P. setacea had higher agmatine contents (1.37 mg/100 g) compared to the others. The indolamine tryptamine was present at low concentrations in all species (~ 0.05 mg/100 g). P. nitida and P. alata had the highest soluble solids (~ 18°Brix); P. edulis had the lowest pH (2.97) and P. nitida the highest pH (4.19). Throughout P. setacea fruit development, the concentrations of spermidine, putrescine and agmatine decreased; spermine contents did not change; and pH decreased. Fruit shelf life and some of the health promoting properties of Passiflora and their synthesis are modulated by species.

Com o objetivo de estudar o efeito de lâminas de irrigação e doses de potássio aplicadas via fertirrigação por gotejamento no desenvolvimento, na produtividade e na qualidade de frutos do maracujazeiro amarelo (Passiflora edulis Sins var. flavicarpa Deg) conduziu-se um experimento no período de maio de 2000 a maio de 2001, segundo ciclo da cultura, no campo experimental pertencente ao Departamento de Engenharia Rural da ESALQ/USP, Piracicaba, São Paulo. O experimento foi conduzido em 3 blocos casualizados com parcelas subdivididas em 5 tratamentos de adubação potássica, com doses de K2O variando de zero (testemunha) até 0,800 kg de K2O por planta, aplicados fracionadamente via fertirrigação por gotejamento e 4 lâminas de irrigação, que variaram de 63,3 a 220,5 mm, definidas como frações da lâmina média evapotranspirada medida em quatro lisímetros de drenagem. Concluiu-se que houve efeito significativo das lâminas de irrigação sobre o diâmetro do caule e a área foliar do maracujazeiro amarelo. Não houve efeito dos tratamentos nos comprimentos de internós. O peso do fruto, a densidade do suco, a espessura da casca e o rendimento do suco foram influenciados significativamente pelas lâminas de irrigação, pelas doses de potássio e pela interação entre esses fatores. Não houve efeito significativo dos tratamentos sobre os sólidos solúveis totais, pH e acidez total titulável do suco. O comprimento de fruto foi afetado significativamente pela interação entre lâminas de irrigação e doses de potássio e não houve efeito significativo dos tratamentos no diâmetro de fruto. As concentrações foliares de potássio, magnésio e manganês foram influenciadas significativamente pelas lâminas de irrigação e pelas doses de potássio e as concentrações foliares de boro e ferro sofreram efeito significativo apenas da interação entre as lâminas de água e as doses de potássio. Não houve efeito significativo dos tratamentos sobre as concentrações foliares de nitrogênio, fósforo, cálcio, enxofre, cobre e zinco. Houve efeito significativo dos tratamentos na produção comercial, apresentando um valor máximo de 14102 kg.ha-1 obtido com a aplicação de 118,5 mm de água combinada com dose nula de potássio e um valor mínimo de 8734 kg.ha-1 obtido com a aplicação de 171,5 mm de água e 0,400 kg de K2O por planta. A produção não comercial apresentou uma tendência quadrática de redução com o aumento das doses de potássio. A produção total de frutos foi influenciada significativamente pelos tratamentos, obtendo-se um valor máximo de 14806 kg.ha-1 com a combinação de 118,5 mm de água com dose nula de potássio e um valor mínimo de 8879 kg.ha-1 obtido com a aplicação de 171,5 mm de água e 0,400 kg de K2O por planta._________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT: To study the effects of irrigation water depths and potassium levels applied by drip fertigation on the development, yield and fruit quality of yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sins var. flavicarpa Deg) a trial was carried out from May 2000 to May 2001 in the experimental area of the Department of Rural Engineering of ESALQ/USP, Piracicaba, São Paulo. Experiment was conducted in a split-plot scheme with 3 randomized blocks and 5 treatments with levels of potassium, where K2O varied from zero (control) to 0.800 kg per plant, applied fractionally by drip fertigation and 4 irrigation water depths, which varied from 63.3 to 220.5 mm and were defined as fractions of the average evapotranspiration measured in four drainage lysimeters. There was a significant effect of the water depths over stem diameter and leaf area of the yellow passion fruit. There was not effects of the treatments on the internodes length. Fruit weight, juice density, skin thickness and the juice yield were significantly affected by irrigation water depths, potassium levels and by the interaction between these factors. Treatments did not significantly affect the total soluble solids, pH and total titratable acidity of the juice. Fruit length was significantly affected by the interaction between the water depths and potassium levels and there was not significant effect of the treatments on the fruit diameter. Concentrations of potassium, magnesium and manganese in leaves were significantly influenced by the irrigation water depths and potassium levels. Boron and iron concentrations were affected only by the interaction between the water depths and potassium levels. Treatments also did not affect the nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, sulphur, cooper and zinc concentrations in leaves. Significant effect was observed on the marketable yield, with a maximum value of 14102 kg.ha-1, which was obtained when 118.5 mm of water and zero potassium was applied. Minimum value, 8734 kg.ha-1, was reached when 171.5 mm of water and 0.400 kg K2O per plant were applied. Non-marketable yield showed a quadratic reduction tendency with potassium levels increasing. Total yield of fruits was significantly influenced by treatments and the maximum, 14806 kg.ha-1, was obtained by applying 118.5 mm of water and zero potassium and the minimum, 8879 kg.ha-1, with 171.5 mm of water and 0.400 kg K2O per plant.

Os tratamentos foram constituídos de cinco condições de temperaturas (25, 30, 35, 20-30 e 30-20 ºC) e duas condições de luz (luz constante e escuro constante). O delineamento utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 5 (luz x temperatura). As sementes foram mantidas em câmera de germinação durante o período de 30 dias. A contagem das sementes germinadas foi realizada diariamente. Ao final do experimento foram calculados a porcentagem de germinação, o índice de velocidade de germinação - IVG, a velocidade de germinação - VG e a frequência relativa de germinação. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias comparadas pelo teste Tukey a 5% de probabilidade de erro. A frequência relativa de germinação foi representada na forma de gráficos. Observou-se que a luz tem efeito inibitório sobre a germinação das sementes. A temperatura constante de 35 °C e a alternada 30/20 °C promoveram maior índice de germinação das sementes de Passiflora incarnata. Abstract: The study aimed to assess the influence of temperature and light on germination of Passiflora incarnata L seeds. The treatments consisted of five temperature conditions (25, 30, 35, 20-30 and 30-20 °C) and two light conditions (constant light and constant darkness). The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 x 5 factorial arrangement (light x temperature). The seeds were kept in a germination chamber during the period of 30 days. The germinated seeds were counted daily. At the end of the experiment, the percentage of seed germination (PSG), germination speed index (GSI), the germination rate (GR) and relative frequency of germination (RFG) were calculated. The data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance and means were compared by Tukey test at 5% probability. The relative frequency of germination was represented as graphs. It was observed that light has an inhibitory effect on seed germination. The constant temperature of 35 °C and the alternating temperatures of 30/20 °C promoted a higher germination seed index for Passiflora incarnata. En el presente estudio se evaluó el desarrollo vegetativo de patrones cítricos cultivados en invernadero bajo dos sistemas de riego. El experimento se realizó en la Estação Experimental Agronômica de la Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, ubicada en Eldorado do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, entre los meses de septiembre de 2003 y abril de 2004, totalizando 225 días de experimentación. El diseño experimental fue de parcelas subdivididas, en factorial 2 x 3, con 4 repeticiones de 22 contenedores cada. En las parcelas principales se evaluaron los sistemas de riego (microaspersión y capilaridad) y en las subparcelas los patrones cítricos Poncirus trifoliata (L.) Raf., citrangero 'C37' [P. trifoliata x Citrus sinensis (L.) Osb. cv. Pêra] y lima 'Rangpur' (C. limonia Osb.). En condiciones de invernadero los patrones cítricos presentan un desarrollo vegetativo más rápido bajo riego por capilaridad respecto a la microaspersión. Los patrones cítricos evaluados presentan desarrollos vegetativos distintos, donde el citrangero 'C37' supera a los demás. The aim of the present work was to evaluate the vegetative development of citrus rootstock seedlings cultivated under greenhouse conditions with two irrigation systems. The experiment was conducted at the Estação Experimental Agronômica , Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, located in Eldorado do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, from September 2003 to April 2004, totalizing 225 days of experimentation. The experimental design was a split-plot, in a 2x3 factorial, with 4 replications of 22 pots each. In the main plot the irrigation systems was evaluated (micro sprinkler and capillarity) and in the split-plot the citrus rootstocks [Trifoliate orange - Poncirus trifoliata (L.) Raf., 'C37' citrange - P. trifoliata x Citrus sinensis (L.) Osb. cv. Pêra and 'Rangpur' lime - C. limonia Osb.] were evaluated. The main result showed in conditions of greenhouse citrus rootstock seedlings presented a great vegetative development under irrigation by capillarity in relation to the micro sprinkler. The evaluated citrus rootstock seedling display different vegetative developments, where the 'C37' citrange was more vigorous.

O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, com três repetições, num esquema fatorial 4 x 4, com 4 doses de N (zero, 150, 300 e 600mg de N dm-3) e quatro de K (zero, 75, 150 e 300mg de K dm-3), parceladas em quatro vezes. A unidade experimental foi constituída por vasos de 3,3L. Após 84 dias da germinação, foram avaliados: altura da planta, o diâmetro do caule, o número de folhas e a área foliar. O melhor desenvolvimento das mudas de maracujazeiro ocorreu com as doses de 150mg de N dm-3 e de 300mg de K dm-3. The present work aimed to evaluate the effects of nitrogen and potassic fertilization on the development and nutrition of yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) seedlings, cultivated in dystrophic Red Latosol (Haplustox). The experimental design was completely randomized with 3 replications, in a 4 x 4 factorial design, between 4 levels of nitrogen (zero, 75, 150, 300 and 600mg N dm-3) and 4 levels of potassium (zero, 75, 150 and 300mg K dm-3). Fertilizers were divided into four parcels. The experimental unit consisted of pots of 3.3L. After 84 days of the germination, the plant height, diameter of the stem, number of leaves and leaf area were evaluated. The best development of seedlings was observed at the levels of 150mg of N dm-3 and 300mg of K dm-3. O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar doses de P e fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (FMA) eficientes na promoção do crescimento de mudas de maracujazeiro-doce. O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação, com delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em fatorial 2x4x4: duas condições de solo (desinfestado ou não), quatro tratamentos de inoculação (sem inoculação e com inoculação de Gigaspora albida, Scutellospora heterogama e de FMA nativos da rizosfera de maracujazeiro-doce) e quatro doses de P disponível (Mehlich-1) (8 - solo natural -, 12, 16 e 20 mg dm-3), com quatro repetições. Os FMA nativos proporcionaram benefícios no crescimento das mudas a partir de 30 dias após a inoculação, enquanto os demais FMA incrementaram o desenvolvimento do hospedeiro após 45 dias. Modelos quadráticos indicaram valores máximos de altura de mudas em solo desinfestado, com dose de P entre 15,40 e 16,07 mg dm-3 e em solo não desinfestado, com dose de P entre 14,85 e 15,60 mg dm-3 nos tratamentos com S. heterogama e G. albida, respectivamente. Maiores densidades de esporos e colonização micorrízica foram observadas nos tratamentos com esses fungos, em comparação com os FMA nativos. Mudas de maracujazeiro-doce podem ser beneficiadas pela micorrização com FMA, reduzindo o tempo de sua produção. The objective of this work was to identify the required P dose and efficient arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) to promote growth of seedlings of sweet passion fruit. An experiment was carried out at the greenhouse, in a randomized design with a factorial 2x4x4: two soil conditions (disinfected or not), four treatments of inoculation (inoculated or not with Gigaspora albida, Scutellospora heterogama and native AMF from the rhizosphere of sweet passion fruit plants), four doses of available P (Mehlich-1) (8 - natural soil -, 12, 16 and 20 mg dm-3), with four replicates. Native AMF promoted growth of seedlings after 30 days of inoculation, while other fungi stimulated plant development after 45 days. Quadratic models indicated maximum values of plant height in soil, with P values estimated between 15.40 and 16.07 mg dm-3 in disinfected soil and 14.85 and 15.60 mg dm-3 in non disinfected soil, obtained in treatments with S. heterogama and G. albida, respectively. Higher spores density and mycorrhizal colonization were observed in treatments with these fungi, comparing with the native AMF. Growth of sweet passion fruit seedlings can be improved by mycorrhization with selected AMF, with reduction of time spent on seedling production.
