The Cuban endemic Plumeria filifolia Griseb. is illustrated from plants growing at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Miami, Florida. This species belongs to the charismatic group of plants commonly known as frangipani. Though several species are often found in cultivation, many of the endemic wild growing Caribbean species, including P. filifolia, have not yet reached their full ornamental potential. A historical overview of early collections of P. filifolia is presented, along with a detailed description, habitat, distribution map, list of known herbarium specimens and conservation status. A review of the nomenclature including the second‐step lectotypification is provided. The species complex with P. stenophylla is reviewed, and based on morphological grounds, P. stenophylla is here regarded as a distinct species. As no previous monographic revision exists, morphological and ecogeographical patterns for the rest of the genus are discussed.

Oviedo Prieto, R.: Novelties in Erythroxylum (Erythroxylaceae) of the Greater Antilles. — Willdenowia 33: 187–195. 2003. — ISSN 0511-9618; © 2003 BGBM Berlin-Dahlem. Three new Antillean species of Erythroxylum are described: E. mogotense and E. banaoense from Cuba and E. domingense from Hispaniola. The main diagnostic characters are leaf morphology, stipules and number of flowers per axil. Phenology, ecology and chorology are also relevant criteria. E. williamsii, described from Venezuela, is a new record for Hispaniola.

It was determined the behavior of the species considered sinantropic and were compared withthe list of this kind of species published in Cuba, determining the presence of 83 sinantropicspecies in the area that represents 70.3% of the oak´s forest flora. The families better representedare Asteraceae with seven species, followed by Fabaceae and Malvaceae (6), and Caesalpinaceaewith five. The 61.9% of the sinantropic species are native (apophytes) while 38.09% are aliensplants. The total of the species are situated in 13 artificial taxonomic unities with prevalence ofthe secondary extrapophytes with 25 species. Also there are 15 invasive plants that represent45.45% of the alien flora.

Bouteloua vaneedenii is an endemic and extremely rare grass of the West Indies. Very few collections are known, and the most recent collection is from 1922. With the aim of finding the species, a team of Mexican and Cuban agrostologists conducted a field trip and found B. vaneedenii in the same locality where it was collected in 1922 on dry limestone rocks. Although it was stated that B. vaneedenii probably was extinct from Cuba, vigorous populations remain in at least 2 localities in Pastelillo. Further exploration may lead to the discovery of additional populations and the reevaluation of its current conservation status.
