Introduction. The detection of the first cases of tick-borne human granulocytic anaplasmosis in Russia, discovery of genetic markers for Anaplasma spp. in ixodid ticks and reporting of a significant number of cases of tick-borne infections in the southern part of Western Siberia give reason to suppose that causative agents of tick-borne anaplasmosis may be transmitted in Tomsk and its suburbs. Objective. To study the distribution and species biodiversity of A. phagocytophilum in ixodid ticks in Tomsk Region. Materials and methods. The analysis of 690 individual ixodid ticks (larvae and adults) was carried out for Ixodes persulcatus (n = 530) and Dermacentor reticulatus (n = 160) ticks collected in 2015–2016 on the territory of urban and suburban biotopes of Tomsk. Primary screening of ticks for the presence of genetic material of A. phagocytophilum was conducted using two-round PCR with species-specific primers for the 16S rRNA gene. The amplification (1,220 kB) of the groESL fragment of the heat shock protein operon was performed for positive isolates with subsequent determination of the nucleotide sequence in the gene fragment for phylogenetic analysis. Results. The number of A. phagocytophilum positive samples for I. persulcatus (larvae) was 1.2 ± 0.6%, I. persulcatus (adult) was 1.8 ± 0.7%; and D. reticulatus (adult) was 0.6 ± 0.3%. Analysis of the nucleotide sequence of the gene fragments in groESL operon for nine isolates confirmed that the genetic material of the granulocytic anaplasmosis was detected. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all the isolates belonged to the first group of the “new cluster” of A. phagocytophilum. Conclusion. The causative agent of human granulocytic anaplasmosis has been newly detected in I. persulcatus ticks collected in urban and suburban biotopes of Tomsk and in D. reticulatus from urban foci.

The dynamics and correlations of ecophysiological parameters have been studied in two spatially separated multispecies communities of murine rodents and ixodid tick larvae and nymphs that parasitize them. It has been shown that all the processes under consideration have nonstationary, oscillatory dynamics. The long-term dynamics of connectivity of ecophysiological characteristics within communities and their synchronization by weather–climatic factors are, by nature, wavelike processes of transitions between the states with stronger and weaker linkage between parameters, which, along with nonstationarity, can contribute to the maintenance of stability and integrity of communities.

A method assessing one of the several types of investigative behavior was used to study the existence of forelimb motor asymmetry in three species of mouse-like rodents from natural populations of different families: the striped field mouse (Apodemus agrarius) from the mouse family (Muridae) and the bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus) and northern redbacked vole (Cl. rutilus), which are two closely related species of the hamster family (Cricetidae). Animals were selected from different populations whose habitats were significantly different in terms of food and protective conditions, the levels and types of anthropogenic pollution, and local biota. All species showed a predominance of right-sided asymmetry in animals of both genders. Spatial and temporal variability of asymmetry profiles was demonstrated. An increase in the proportion of “left-handers” was seen in biotopes in which animals experienced increased adaptive pressure. The ratio of “right-handers” to “left-handers” (right/(left + ambidextrous) animals) in rodent populations was not constant, but oscillated with a periodicity (2–3 years) close to the dynamics of population numbers. It is suggested that this ratio in populations of individuals with motor asymmetry of different signs facilitates the maintenance of population homeostasis.

Determined is the complete genome sequence of Kolarovo-2008 strain (Siberia subtype) of Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), isolated from a tick in the suburbs of the Tomsk city. Nucleotide sequence analysis testifies of the fact that the level of genetic differences within the Siberian subtype of TBEV amounts to 10 % of the nucleotide sequence and to 7 % of amino-acid sequence for certain virus genes. 3'-HTO of the genome of Siberian subtype has the highest rate of variability and the homology level ranging from 65 to 97 %. Kolarovo-2008 and Vasilchenko (isolated in Novosibirsk in 1969) strains have the highest level of genome homology. The level of dissimilarity between the two Tomsk strains is substantially higher: the total number of amino-acid substitutions in Tomsk Zausaev and Kolarovo-2008 strains equals to 124, and 3'HTO level of homology is 79 %. Identified genetic variability of the Siberian subtype of TBEV is of a great importance for further development and enhancement of tick-borne encephalitis virus diagnostics.

Two urban and two suburban biotopes of Tomsk were studied for tick-transmitted disease prevalence in ticks collected in the wild. Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), West Nile virus (WNV), Borrelia spp., Rickettsia spp., and Ehrlichia spp. were found in 6.5%, 2.2%, 8%, 2.5%, and 1.7% of tick specimens, respectively. Genetic markers of Powassan virus, Bartonella spp., and Babesia spp. were not found. Analysis of the genetic diversity of revealed pathogens demonstrated that TBEV strains belonged to the Siberian and Far-Eastern subtypes, and the Far-Eastern subtype of TBEV is most frequently found in urban biotopes (up to 43% of urban strains of TBEV). WNV strains belonged to the 1a genotype. Borrelia spp. was classified as B. garinii, Rickettsia spp. was classified as R. tarasevichiae and probably as a new Rickettsia raoultii subspecies, and Ehrlichia spp. was classified as E. muris. The coexistence of several pathogens was found in 5.7% of tick specimens, and TBEV + Borrelia spp. was the most frequent combination.
