1. 1. Mean O 2 consumption of controls at 35°C was 329 μ1/g per hr. 2. 2. Mean rate of heart beat/min of controls at 15,20,25,30 and 35°C was 43, 65,96,140 and 185 respectively. 3. 3. Mean ventilatory rate/min of controls at 15,20,25,30 and 35°C was 25,27, 31,35 and 37 respectively. 4. 4. Values of O 2 consumption, rate of heart beat and ventilatory rate determined for controls, sham-parietalectomized and parietalectomized individuals did not differ significantly ( P > 0·05) between treatments or between day 0 and day 30 within a treatment.

1. 1. Blood oxygen capacity (BOC), erythrocyte (RBC) density and hemoglobin (Hb) concentration were determined for Leptodactylus fallax , a large, tropical frog. 2. 2. Mean BOC values for males and females were 12·5 and 8·5 vol. % respectively. The difference is significant after BOC values are adjusted for differences in body weight. 3. 3. Mean RBC counts for males and females were 600,000/mm 3 and 744,000/mm 3 respectively. Mean Hb concentration was 10·9g % with no significant sexual difference. 4. 4. There was a significant decrease in BOC/g of body weight with an increase in body weight. 5. 5. Electrophoretic patterns of male, female and of a mixture of male and female blood cell proteins were identical.

Habitat segregation was documented for populations of Cottus bairdi and C. girardi in Naked Creek, Virginia. Habitat partitioning was most obvious in terms of current velocity and substrate type. Two groups could be defined: male and immature C. girardi preferred slow current and silty substrates or beds of aquatic vascular plants, while female and immature C. bairdi preferred faster current and larger substrate particle sizes or algal beds. Male C. bairdi and female C. girardi were somewhat intermediate between these two groups in habitat preference. The possibility of interactive segregation between these two species is discussed.
