Breed characterization in the livestock is important for the breeding program in the future. This research aimed to characterize Thin-tail sheep in the highland and lowland areas of Jambi Province based on 7 body measurements and body indices using multivariate analysis. Data were collected from 160 sheep consisted of 80 rams and 80 ewes from each area (320 sheep in total with 1-2 years old). The research showed that the principal component analysis (PCA) in this study was explained 65.84%-72.30% by body measurements and 78.23%-84.99% by body indices of the total phenotypic variance of animals. The body measurement of cannon circumference (CC) and body indices of area index (AI), relative cannon index (RCI), dactyl thorax index (DTI), conformation index (CI), and index of body weight (IBW) were selected as the discriminating variable for Thin-tail sheep in different areas. However, this study’s canonical correlation (rc) values were 0.44 for body measurements and 0.47 for body indices. Therefore, about 67.5% of Thin-tail sheep from the lowland area and 57.5% of Thin-tail sheep from the highland area can be characterized with body measurements. Hence, about 61.2% of Thin-tail sheep from the lowland area and 65.6% of Thin-tail sheep from the highland area can be characterized with body indices. Temperature, humidity, rainfall, and length of radiation in the highland areas are lower than in the lowland areas. The cluster analysis in four Thin-tail sheep populations revealed two clusters, i.e., cluster 1 consisted of Kerinci and Sungai Penuh and cluster 2 consisted of Muaro Jambi and Batanghari. It was concluded that about 60% of Thin-tail sheep could be characterized through their body indices.

Climate change can have a direct effect (e.g. changes in air temperature, increased ultraviolet radiation, and pollution) and indirect effect (such as increased incidence infectious diseases). Infectious diseases are the main cause of high human mortality, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. Andong plant (Cordyline terminalis) is one of Bali’s local plants, which is widely used as a drug for infections due to microbes resulting from climate change. This study aimed to observe the effect of Andong leaf extract as an antioxidant and antibacterial and to identify the compounds. This research design was carried out with sample preparation including cleaning, cutting, drying, grinding and sifting to powder. Extraction was done by maceration method. Phytochemical tests were then performed with color reagents. Antioxidant test was carried out using diphenyl picryl hydrazil hydrate (DPPH) method and antibacterial activity was determined by well diffusion method. Measurement of antioxidant compounds’ levels was determined spectrophotometrically and analysis of antioxidant compounds was carried out by the LC-MS/MS method. The result showed that the Andong leaf extract contained saponins, polyphenols, flavonoids, steroids, triterpenoids, phytosterols, amino acids and alkaloids. In the testing of antioxidant compounds, Andong leaf extract contained tannins was 3324.550±0.821 mg/100 g TAE, phenol was 1398.905±0.812 mg/100 g GAE and flavonoids was 1373.065±1.288 mg/100 g QE. This research aimed to estimate the growth curve of body weight in Ecotype Fulani (EF) chickens. Two growth curves of Logistic (L)and Gompertz (G) models were performed in this study. 211 birds were used in this study for growth curve analysis. Research showed that the coefficient of determination (R2) in both curves were similar (0.99). Hence, the standard error in G model was lower than L model in each sex group. The bird’s adult weight were 1575.96 g (male) or 1411.69 g (female) in L model and 2386.63 g (male) or 2250.30 g (female) in G model. The bird’s inflection weight was 787.98 g (male) or 705.85 g (female) in L model and 877.44 g (male) or 827.32 g (female) in G model. The bird’s inflection time were 13.58 week (male) or 15.58 week (female) L model and 18.57 week (male) or 13.89 week (female) in G model. The bird’s maximum growth rate were 78.80 g/wk (male) or 63.53 g/wk (female) in L model and 61.42 g/wk (male) or 74.46 g/wk (female) in G mode. It was concluded that the growth curve of G model was accurate to predict the body weight of EF chickens from hatching to adult age.

Objective: The objective of this study was to characterize Kacang goats (aged 12 years) in the highland (group 1) and lowland (group 2) areas of Jambi Province based on their body measure¬ments and body indices. Materials and Methods: A total of 320 goats were collected from lowland (n = 160), and highland (n = 160) areas with sex proportions of 80 bucks and 80 does for each area. Eight body mea¬surements and 12 body indices were used to characterize the Kacang goats from different areas. Results: The research showed that each animal group had one principal component (PC) for body measurements and four PCs for body indices. Thus, the body measurement of rump height (RH) and the body indices of area index, weight index, and thoracic development were suggested as the variables to distinguish the Kacang goats from different areas. However, the canonical correla¬tion (rc) value in the study was approximately 0.30 (low). Therefore, about 59.4% (lowland) and 60.6% (highland) of Kacang goats were characterized by the body measurements, and the body indices were indicated approximately 48.8% (lowland) and 61.2% (highland) of Kacang goats. A cluster analysis of the four Kacang populations revealed that Kacang goats in this study were grouped into a first cluster (Kerinci) and a second cluster (Muaro Jambi, Batanghari, and Sungai Penuh). Eel requires unsaturated fatty acids of linolenic acid for growth. Which can be supplied from earthworms. In this study, addition of earthworm in formulation feed aimsed to improve the fatty acid profile eel meat. This research used experimental method and randomized complete design method with five treatments. Each treatment was repeated four times. The use of earthworms in feeding treatment formulation was done for 21 days with different level i.e: 0 % (P0), 25 % (P1), 50 % (P2), 75 % (P3) and 100 % (P4). The result showed that the addition of eartworm significantly influenced the omega 3 contents (EPA & DHA) of eel meat.

The testis was composed by the cells of Leydig, Sertoli, and Spermatogenic. The cells formation itself was able to be disrupted by exposure to an endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC) since the prenatal period. The research was intended to prove that Genistein could obstruct the formation of Leydig cells, Sertoli cells, Spermatogenic of rats. The randomized post-test only control group design method was conducted towards white female Wistar rats, 12-13 weeks old, has been had one child, could normally eat and drink. The analysis unit was the child of mother rat treatment group that given Genistein of 10 mg/kg/day and the control group that received distilled water, each of them were 15. The research was done in the Laboratory of Faculty of Veterinary Medical, Udayana University, from January to July 2016. The computer was used for analyzing the data using, with α of 0.05. The result was the Genistein child had an average of 5.464 Sertoli cell, 11.120 Leydig cell, and 48.427 spermatogonia, whereas, the control group had an average of 8.173 Leydig cells, 12.987 Sertoli cells, and 69.547 spermatogonia. There were significant differences between the two groups (p 0.000). The conclusion was that an average of Leydig cells, Sertoli cells, and Spermatogonia lower in children whose their parent rats given Genistein during Periconception period.

This research was conducted to investigate the results of selection in Aceh cattle candidatebull using breeding value (BV) and selection index (SI) methods. The Secondary data in this research was records data from 2010 to 2013 and consisted of family tree, birth and body weight records at Indrapuri’s Breeding and Forages Centre (IBFC) of Aceh Cattle. Data records collected for estimate heritability nor the genetic and phenotypic correlations. The research showed that heritability value of weaning weight (WW), yearling weight (YW) and final weight (FW) included high category. Genetic correlation between WW with YW and FW were positively moderate. The concluded of this research was 48 % heifers had same rank on BVFW and SI from 29 heifers. Index selection method could be use for livestock selection criteria.Key words: Aceh cattle, breeding value, selection index, heritability, genetic correlations
