The enigmatic tenebrionid genera Rondoniella Kaszab, 1970 and Durandius Kaszab, 1970 are briefly reviewed and diagnosed. Rondoniella hosoishii sp. nov. is described based on specimens collected from a nest of the arboreal ant Crematogaster sewardi in Cambodia. Because of where R. hosoishii sp. nov. was collected and its specialized morphology, the members of Rondoniella and its close relative Durandius are considered to be myrmecophilous, as was suggested in the original description. They also have reduced mouthparts, which are unknown in other tenebrionids, and they might receive food from ants by trophallaxis.

Two species of Dichillus Jacquelin du Val, 1861 (Tenebrionidae, subfamily Pimeliinae, tribe Stenosini) new to science from the lowlands of central Thailand are described: Dichillus grimmi sp. n. and Dichillus siamicus sp. n. An identification key for the four known species of Dichillus from Thailand is provided. A checklist of Stenosini from Thailand is added.

Head black, front without tuft of setae on inner margin of eye. Antennae extended backwards beyond base of the pronotum. Antennomere XI with a tomentose sensory patch completely covering it. Pronotum black (Fig. 2a, d, g), glabrous, convex, irregular and coarsely wrinkled, with deep wrinkles reaching all margins. Lateral parts of pronotum with small punctures only visible under magnification (25x). Anterior and lateral margins concave; lateral margins with a row of long irregular setae in the groove formed by the double lateral margin. Posterior angles acute, projecting backwards to elytral humerus. Pronotum widest at posterior half. Width of pronotum twice as long at the midpoint. Horizontal prosternum with straight and pointed process (Fig. 2b), triangular in lateral view (Fig. 2c). Prosternum higher than mesosternum (Fig. 2c). Mesosternum with long setae over the entire surface. Metasternum with a tuft of setae in the middle (Fig. 2b, c). Elytra widest at middle of its length, with few protuberances and suture noticeably raised in the anterior half. The elytral disc is triangular in shape (i.e. elytral triangle; Fig. 1a) with irregular pubescent patches. Seven long, thin, pubescent, striae reach the lateral margins but not the disc. The first four striae are diagonal from lateral margins towards the elytral suture and the remaining three (striae 5, 6 and 7) are almost parallel to the elytral suture (Fig. 2a). Striae 5, 6 and 7 extend throughout the apical third. Strong rows of granulations run along the midline of each stria. The space between the striae is as wide as the striae and raised. Lateral margin thick, granulate and almost reaching the apex, gradually disappearing towards the apical declivity. Pseudopleuron smooth and glabrous. Epipleuron smooth and with short, dark greyish short setae. Black legs, femora more pubescent on ventral surface than on dorsal surface. Pro and mesofemur with denser and longer pubescence on ventral surface than on metafemur. Protibiae with denser pubescence on all surfaces (Fig. 2b, c). Abdomen: First abdominal segment with a tuft of golden setae in the central area. Aedeagus in ventral view with lateral styles narrowing towards the apex, base 3x wider than the apex (Fig. 3a), barely curved and thick (Fig. 3b), with scarce punctures on the surface. Apex with abundant long setae (Fig. 3a). Basal margin bisinuate. Basal lamina of tegmen curved and 2.5x longer than lateral styles (Fig. 3a, b), lateral margins sub-straight with last third narrowing to the base, basal margin sub-rounded (Fig. 3a). Female. In general, females are quite similar to males but larger: length: 19.5–22.5 mm; width 12.5–13.0 mm (Fig. 2d). Elytra 1.6x more elevated (Fig. 2e). Mesosternum with less long setae. Metasternum glabrous in the center. First abdominal segment glabrous (see Fig. 2 f). Ovipositor in ventral view (Fig. 3g) with the second coxite plate + valvifer (v+c2) sub-square barely wider on the half portion, surface barely rugose, very abundant radially directed long setae. The third coxite plate (c3), rounded, 3x smaller than v+c2 and covered by long setae directed to the apex. Fourth coxite plate (c4) strongly sclerotized and lanceolate. In ventral view, c4 curved, thin and pointed (Fig 3h). Paraproct (p) glabrous and smooth on ventral view (Fig. 3g) but covered by long setae directed backwards on the dorsal and lateral face (Fig. 3h). Intraspecific variation. There is great variation in the wrinkles on the lateral edges of the pronotum which are sometimes very marked and in some specimens almost erased. Pubescent patches on the elytral triangle are very variable in shape and number. Also, the seven elytral pubescent striae are very variable in design, sometimes they are cut or fused and give the appearance of only 5 or 6 striae (Fig. 2a). In general, so variable is the elytral pattern that each elytron has its own pattern (see Fig. 2). Geographical distribution and habitat. Chile, Coquimbo Region, Limarí Province. So far the species has only been collected on the south bank of the Seca ravine (i.e. Quebrada Seca in Spanish) until the locality of Alcones. This area is located in the Coquimban Biogeographical Province (CBP; Morrone 2015). G. crispaticollis inhabits sites with shrubby vegetation on a flat surface and moderately stony clay soil (Fig. 1b). These environments are characteristic of the Andean-coastal zone south of the CBP. In general, adults shelter under plants and shrubs during the hottest hours of the day, being most active in the morning and midday, when they reproduce and feed (Fig. 1b). Diagnosis. G. crispaticollis has a completely convex pronotum, with deep wrinkles reaching lateral margins. Elytral triangle short, wrinkled and semi-glabrous, with small irregular pubescent patches. Seven thin, long, pubescent striae on each elytron. Striae 5, 6 and 7 extend throughout the apical third. Strong rows of granulations run along the midline of each striation. Spaces between striae wide (Fig. 2 a, d, g). Base of the lateral styles 3x wider than apex (Fig. 3a, e, i). Lateral styles barely curved (Fig. 3b). Apex with abundant long setae. Basal lamina of tegmen 1.7x longer than lateral styles (Fig. 3a). Morphological comparison. Comparison of the diagnostic characters of the studied species (see Table 1) shows that G. crispaticollis shares traits 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 16 and 17 with G. multigranulosus and only 5, 8 and 10 with G. luczotii (see Figs 2 and 3). Whereas G. luczotii and G. multigranulosus share traits 3, 11, 13, 15 (see Figs 2 and 3). Lectotype designation. Two specimens of G. crispaticollis were included in the type series from “ Chili ”. By studying the male syntype, specimen code EC 8675, we conclude that this specimen coincides with the original description, since its external morphological features include an oval, convex, black body; pronotum with irregular, thin and conspicuously impressed wrinkles extending to the lateral margins; elytra with finely granulated striae and raised suture. Also because the description was made based on a male specimen. Therefore, this specimen is designated as a the lectotype and preserves the nomenclatural stability of the taxon studied, following the indications of article 72 of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (Ride et al. 1999). Through this action, there can be no doubt about the identity of this species, whose taxonomic status is revalidated in this publication. Genetic differentiation. Fragments of 1522 bp COI were obtained. The genetic distance of COI between G. crispaticollis and G. luczotii was 4.5 % (SE = 0.005) and between G. crispaticollis and G. multigranulosus 4.8 % (SE = 0.005). While the genetic distance between G. multigranulosus and G. luczotii was 4.1% (SE = 0.005).

Pronotum and frons black, with slightly reduced luster, clypeus dark brown to brown. Elytra brown, luster somewhat reduced. Frons somewhat convex longitudinally, epistome nearly flat, not separated by a grooved epistomal suture from frons. Frons with relatively dense, minute punctures, origin of tiny, recumbent hairs; punctures on clypeus somewhat larger, also with similar hairs. Eyes large, reniform, frons somewhat higher situated than eyes. Antennae short, bent backwards just reach to the elytral base; starting with antennomere 6 somewhat widened, antennomere 10 wider than long; antennomere 11 rounded. Pronotum wide, uniformly convex transversely, slightly micro reticulated, with small, but distinct punctures. Elytra. Scutellar shield indicated pentagonal. Elytra relatively short, very convex transversely but elytral borders visible from above, moderately convex longitudinally. Eight rows of small punctures, punctures situated within translucent darker-colored areas; rows 4 plus 5 unconnected, 24 punctures in row 4; intervals flat, allusively micro reticulated. Ventral side. Prosternum closely punctured, punctures large; episterna of prosternum with only a few tiny punctures; prosternal process elongate oval, with its greatest width at the procoxae, protruding horizontally posteriorly. Legs. Tibiae short. Outer side of protibiae not dentate, meso and metatibiae dentate. In males basal protarsomeres widened and flattened, their soles are pushed underneath the protarsomeres 2; protarsomeres 3–5 of usual shape; basal mesotarsomeres prolonged and widened and pushed underneath mesotarsoneres 2; mesotarsomeres 3–5 of usual shape; metatarsomeres in males of usual shape, lengths of metatarsomeres 1 to metatarsomeres 2–4 15/25. Etymology. This species is dedicated to Helena Victoria Nagy in gratitude for the support of the research institution ACP Panguana. Differential diagnosis. By shape and coloration Lelegeis helenavictoriae sp. n. (Fig. 1a) resembles Lelegeis pytanga collected in remnants of the Atlantic Forests of Southeast Brazil. Lelegeis helenavictoriae sp. n. differs from L. pytanga by body size: body length of L. pytanga 6.32–8.00 mm versus L. helenavictoriae 3.13–3.45 mm, furthermore, the basal mesotarsomere is not widened in males in L. pytanga (widened in L. helenavictoriae) (Fig. 2c)). The shape of aedeagus of L. pytanga (the image presented in Aloquio & Lopes-Andrade 2017) is very similar to the shape of aedeagus of L. helenavictoriae; (Fig. 3a), the shape of aedeagus of L. helenavictoriae is quite different from the shape of aedeagus of L. nigrifrons. A brief well-illustrated review of the tenebrionid genus Nalassus Mulsant, 1854 from the Greater Caucasus is presented. A new species, N. (Caucasonotus) negrobovi Nabozhenko, sp. n. is described from the alpine zone of Abkhazia. This species is similar to N. dombaicus (Nabozhenko, 2000), N. adriani (Reitter, 1922) and N. alanicus (Nabozhenko, 2000), but differs in the structure of eyes, antennae, pronotum and elytral interstriae. The following new synonyms are proposed after examination of a series of beetles and type specimens: Nalas­sus dissonus Nabozhenko, 2001 = Nalassus lutshniki Nabozhenko, 2001, syn. n.; Nalassus colchicus madlenae Nabozhenko, 2013 = Nalassus kartvelius Nabozhenko, 2013, syn. n.; Helops cambyses Seidlitz, 1895 = Cylindronotus ahngeri Medvedev, 1998, syn. n. Keys to species from the Greater Caucasus on males and females are given. New data on bionomics, landscape and habitat distribution and trophic relations are given. Interesting patterns are observed at the level of ecological groups: forest species feed mainly on corticolous foliose lichens from the family Physciaceae Zahlbr., while alpine Nalassus use saxicolous foliose lichens from the family Parmeliaceae Zenker; steppe species feed on terricolous foliose lichens at least from the family Cladoniaceae Zenker.

Platybolium watanai sp. nov. (Figs. 1–9) Type series. Holotype: ♁, Thai: Chiang Mai, Doi Suthep National Park, National Park Lodging, 18˚48’21.74”N, 98˚55’5.46”E, 1050 m, 22–23.XII.2015, Maruyama-M. leg. (KUM). Paratypes: 3 ♁♁, 3 ♀♀, same data as for the holotype (2 in KUM, 2 in DNP, 2 in CKA). Description. Oblong, subparallel-sided, weakly convex, covered with fine microsculpture, subshiny. Colour dark reddish brown, darkened in part; dorsal side blackish brown except marginal portions. Body length: 4.7–5.4 mm in male (n = 4; average 5.1 mm), 4.7–5.7 mm in female (n = 3; average 5.3 mm). Male. Head transversely rhombic, with rounded anterior margin though very slightly sinuous in middle; punctures dense, larger and clear on frons to vertex, smaller and obscure on clypeus and genae; clypeus and frons weakly convex, individually; genae flattened, roundly produced laterad; frons sloping laterally, overhanging like eaves on inner margins of eyes, space between eyes 4.71–5.33 times as wide as an eye (n = 4; average 5.01 times); eyes coarsely facetted, strongly invaded by genae.Antennae short, reaching apical two-fifths of pronotum, compactly articulate, gradually dilated towards apical antennomeres, especially strongly so in distal five antennomeres; 3rd antennomere distinctly shorter than its apical width (5:7). Ultimate maxillary palpomeres obconical. Mentum obtrapezoidal (Fig. 4), slightly wider than long (19:17), weakly convex in middle and depressed laterally, coarsely and irregularly punctate. Pronotum transversely trapezoidal, somewhat reflexed at sides, widest at basal third and nearly as wide as elytra, 1.96–2.07 times as wide as long (n = 4; average 2.02 times); disc gently convex, weakly sloping laterally, broadly depressed along lateral margins; punctures coarse and very dense, nearly as large as and/or slightly larger than on frons, constantly becoming sparser and smaller in lateral depressed areas; anterior margin moderately emarginate, straight in median three-fifths, very finely beaded; anterior corners obtusely rounded, slightly produced; lateral margins gently rounded, finely beaded; posterior corners nearly rectangular, rounded at the tip; basal margin weakly bisinuate, thinly beaded. Scutellum large, obtriangular, with dense punctures. Elytra elongate, subparallel-sided, gently convex, widest at middle or behind middle, 1.41–1.46 times as long as wide (n = 4; average 1.43 times), finely beaded at sides and strongly depressed along sides in about outer half of 9th intervals; with rows of punctures instead of striae; punctures in rows dense and irregular, larger than on pronotum, distinct even in apical declivity; intervals weakly to moderately convex, densely with microscopic piligerous punctures, weakly carinate on mid of 8th one, the carina terminated before apical declivity of elytron; epipleura flat or weakly depressed, gently and finely punctate, reaching apex of 5th abdominal ventrite. Prothoracic hypomera distinctly depressed, densely punctate, with irregular rugosities. Prosternum moderately convex towards middle, coarsely and densely punctate, hardly beaded at apex; prosternal process guttiform (Fig. 5), incurved behind coxae, irregularly punctate. Mesoventrite with V-shaped posterior ridge coarsely punctate, without anterior angle in lateral view. Metaventrite moderately convex, with punctures moderately dense and piligerous. Abdomen weakly convex, densely covered with piligerous punctures; 8th sternite weakly emarginate at apex and slightly depressed in middle (Fig. 6). Defensive glands distinctly and densely annulate as in Fig. 9. Aedeagus robust (Figs. 7, 8), 0.28–0.30 times as long as elytra (n = 4; average 0.29 times); basale weakly convergent towards base, scarcely emarginate or notched at apex, 2.22–2.89 times as long as apicale (n = 4; average 2.59 times); apicale short, styliform, microscopically punctate, with sides emarginate in apical third. Legs short and robust. Femora fusiform, densely with setiferous punctures; anterior margins of profemora and posterior margins of meso- and metafemora distinctly ancipital. Tibiae short; outer margins of protibiae densely and minutely denticulate, those of mesotibiae sparsely so; inner margins of protibiae with irregular and minute tubercles. Tarsi simple, compactly articulate. Female. Space between eyes 5.33–5.71 times as wide as an eye (n = 3; average 5.46 times); pronotum 1.93–2.00 times as wide as long (n = 3; average 1.96 times); elytra widest at middle or basal third, 1.48–1.50 times as long as wide (n = 3; average 1.49 times); ovipositor and tract are shown in Fig. 10, gonostyle lateral, coxite lobes not confused with each other, coxite lobe 1 baculus and paraproct baculus well sclerotized, vagina without window, spermathecal gland short and apical, accessory gland with an arcuate terminal capsule. Etymology. Patronym. Named in recognition of Dr. Watana Sakchoowong, who always supports MM in his collecting trips and obtaining research permits in Thailand. Differential diagnosis. The new species is similar to Platybolium alvearium Blair, 1938 (type of the genus), but is readily separable from the latter by having the wider and flatter lateral margins of the pronotum and elytra, and by the more shining body surface. Platybolium watanai sp. nov., the second species of the genus, is described from Thailand, with illustrations of the diagnostic characters, including the defensive glands and the cuticular structures of females. The type species of the genus, Platybolium alvearium Blair, 1938, is known from beehives in a wide range of the Oriental region, but the new species was found in an ant nest of Pheidole singaporensis Özdikmen, 2010. Myrmecophily in the new species is discussed.

Pronotum with an longitudinal, oblong impression in the middle. Elytral costae more convex. Variability. Male body length 7.5–8.5 mm (n = 2). Lagria (Lagria) indicola and 11 allied species have similar color pattern, i.e., the dark body (usually black) with brown or yellow elytra. This large complex contains: L. (L.) hirta (Linnaeus, 1758), L. (L.) nigricollis Hope, 1843, L. (L.) atripes Mulsant & Guillebeau, 1855, L. (L.) laticollis Motschulsky, 1860, L. (L.) rufipennis Marseul, 1876, L. (L.) indicola, L. (L.) ophthalmica Fairmaire, 1891 (all of these belong to Borchmann’s (1936) Lagria hirta -group), L. (L.) lata Fabricius, 1801, L. (L.) grenieri C. Brisout de Bameville, 1867, L. (L.) theryi Pic, 1938, and Lagria (Apteronympha) rubida Graells, 1858, L. (Ap.) rugosula Rosenhauer, 1856 (Merkl 2006; Lopez-Perez 2007; Bensusan et al. 2009; Labrique & Merkl 2015; Prisniy & Merkl 2015; Merkl 2020; Ruzzier & Martínez-Muñoz 2021). These species occur mainly in the Palaearctic region (Olson 2001) and most of them are widely distributed throughout Eurasia, except for L. (L.) hirta, L. (L.) lata, L. (Ap.) rugosula which are also found in Africa, while L. (L.) theryi is endemic to Africa. Due to the quite similar shape and color pattern, overlapped distribution and lack of remarkable male characteristics, members of the complex are usually morphologically confused (Merkl 2004). Shape and proportions of male antennomeres and aedeagus are vital diagnostical features to distinguish them. Four species of the complex are now recorded from China (more are expected): L. (L.) indicola, L. (L.) nigricollis, L. (L.) ophthalmica and L. (L.) rufipennis. Compared with the other three, L. (L.) indicola can be easily recognized based on its more elongate antennomeres, shorter terminal male antennomere and longitudinal costae on the elytra. Furthermore, this species is now limited to western China. Lagria (Lagria) medogensis sp. nov. ḆṉḣųƤ (Figs. 1A–D, 2A–G) Diagnosis. Body unicolor brown except darker head, dorsal surface with short and reclinate hairs (Figs. 1A–C); antennomeres elongate; femora clavate, pro-, meso- and metatibia of male all with denticle series, the most prominent one situated proximally (near the femur) (Figs. 2A–C), meso- and metatibia of female with tiny denticles (Figs. 2D–E); male metasternum with a sub-triangular tooth in the midline (Figs. 1C–D). Description. Holotype J (Figs. 1A, 1C). Body length 9.1 mm. Body elongate, moderately widening in posterior half, moderately convex; unicolor brown, except somewhat darker head. Dorsal surface covered with short and reclinate hairs, ventral surface, especially elytral epipleura, metasternum and abdominal sternites with longer hairs. Head slightly transverse, coarsely and densely punctate; mouthparts moderately projecting, terminal segment of maxillary palpus broadly trigonal, mandibles strong, naked in sides, labrum transversely cordiform with a weak arc notch in anterior margin, labroclypeal membrane visible, clypeus descending in the front, with anterior margin deeply trigonally emarginate, frontoclypeal suture pit-shaped in the middle but shallow laterally; frons between eyes uneven, with rather coarse punctures of different size; eyes large, slightly bulging, deeply emarginated in middle, interocular distance subequal to eye diameter; vertex not convex, densely punctate; temples rounded posteriorly, 2/3 as long as eye in dorsal view; antennae slender, extending to metacoxae when directed backwards, antennomeres elongate, antennomere 3–10 gradually shortening in length and broadening in width, antennomere 11 with apex pointed, curved in apical half, subequal to combined length of 2 preceding antennomeres. Prothorax about 1.16× as wide as long, widest at base, moderately constricted before base, convex on central dorsal surface. Pronotum with dense transverse rugae, gently depressed in each side of posterior half; anterior angles inconspicuous, posterior angles somewhat projecting; anterior, posterior margins straight, posterior margins with carina, lateral margins not bordered in dorsal view; prosternum in front of coxae as wide as procoxal cavity; prosternal process quite thin, not elevated. Scutellum long triangular, obtuse at apex. Elytra broad, flat on disc, widest before posterior 1/3; elytral length 1.67× as long as combined maximum width and 5.10× as long as pronotum; humeral callosity rounded, separated from disc by shallow impression; punctuation confused, fine and dense, some punctures shallow, indistinct, interspaces subequal to puncture diameter; epipleura entire, gradually narrowing towards apex; elytral margin weak,visible in dorsal view except for the part of elytra under humeral callosity. Mesosternal process tiny, broader than prosternal process, uprising but not as high as the mesocoxae; metasternum convex, with a sub triangular tooth in the midline (Figs. 1C–D). Legs strong; femora clavate; protibiae gradually broadening from base to apex, mesotibiae contracted in basal 1/3, widest in the middle, all of these tibiae with denticle series on apical half; metatibiae almost equally wide from base to apex, with denticle series on distal 3/4; the most prominent denticle situated proximally (near the femur) in all tibiae (Figs. 2A–C); metatarsomere 1 longest, subequal to combined length of 2–4. Abdominal ventrites longitudinally convex, faintly punctate, uneven laterally with nearly round impression; the fifth ventrite depressed in central area. Aedeagus (Figs. 2F–G) strong, curved in lateral view. Parameres slender, with shallowly sinuate outer margins, rounded apically, slightly curved dorsad in profile. Female (Fig. 1B). Body length 9.2 mm. More robust, more convex in lateral view. Eyes smaller, interocular distance wider, 1.50× as long as eye diameter; antennomeres shorter. Pronotum more transverse, about 1.25× as wide as long. Metasternum not modified in the midline. Femora moderately clavate; protibiae without denticles; mesotibiae gradually broadening from base to apex, with denticle series on apical half; metatibiae curved and denticled in distal 2/3 (Figs. 3D–E). Variability. Male body length 8.1–9.1 mm (n = 3); sometimes antennomeres 7 to 9 with knife-edge on the inner side. Female body length 9.2–10.8 mm (n = 2). Type material (3 JJ 2 ♀♀). Etymology. The name of this new species was transcribed from Mêdog County where all type materials were collected. Distribution. China: Xizang. Remarks. This species can be readily distinguished by its characteristic tibiae and dorsal surface. The species of the genus Lagria Fabricius, 1775 from China are reviewed with a total of 8 species recorded in this paper. One new species, Lagria (Lagria) medogensis sp. nov. is described from Tibet, China. Four species are newly recorded from China, Lagria (Ammocera) bhutanicola Merkl, 2019, L. (Am.) unicolor Borchmann, 1941, L. (L.) indicola Bates, 1879, and L. (L.) wanduensis Merkl, 2019. The Chinese provincial distribution records for three species are updated, L. (L.) ignota (Borchmann, 1941), L. (L.) nigricollis Hope, 1843, and L. (L.) oharai Masumoto, 1988. Intraspecific variability for L. (Am.) bhutanicola and similarity of color patterns among Ammocera species are discussed. L. (L.) indicola is redescribed and illustrated.

A new genus and species are described from the Eocene Baltic amber: Archaeoluprops groehni gen. et sp. nov. This fossil darkling beetle of the subfamily Lagriinae (Tenebrionidae) is externally similar to species of the tribes Lupropini and Goniaderini having the robust pubescent body and estriate elytra, but differs in the absence of intersegmental membranes between abdominal ventrites 3–5 (tentyrioid hinging) and accordingly the primary absence of defensive glands. Combination of plesiomorphic and apomorphic characters and other differences from all extinct and extant lagriine tribes allows to establish the new tribe Archaeolupropini trib. nov. (type genus Archaeoluprops), which is probably a basal group in relation to the non-basal clade Lagriini–Chaerodini–Lupropini–Pycnocerini–Goniaderini–(probably Gonialaenini) + Laenini. All Baltic amber lagriine tribes are absent in extant faunas of middle latitudes of Europa.

Baltic Sea coast, Yantarny settlement (formerly Palmnicken), Sambian (Samland) Peninsula, Kaliningrad Region, Russia. Description. Body length—near 4.5 mm. Body robust, weakly convex, shiny, pubescent dorsally. Head widest at eye level, eyes large, convex, reniform. Anterior margin of epistoma straight. Genae elevated, lateral margins of genae evenly rounded. Fronto-epistomal depression presented. Scapus thickened, wider, than at least antennomeres 2–4. Antennomere 3 not longer, than 4. Puncturation of head coarse and sparse (puncture diameter on frons and epistoma 1.5–2 times shorter than interpuncture distance). Prothorax. Pronotum transverse, lateral margins moderately rounded, straight only near base. Anterior margin widely evenly emarginated, base slightly bisinuate. Anterior margins weakly projected, obtuse, widely rounded at apex, posterior ones almost straight, pointed at apex. Disc of pronotum weakly convex, lateral sides flattened and explanated at basal half. Puncturation of pronotum coarse and dense on lateral sides (puncture diameter slightly longer than interpuncture distance), punctures round, deep; each puncture bears short suberected seta. Lateral margins and base coarsely beaded; anterior margin beaded only near angles. Prosternal process wide, flattened. Pterothorax. Scutellum with rounded margins and acute apex. Elytra elongate, weakly convex, covered with long (longer than on pronotum) suberected hairs directed backward, coarsely and unevenly punctured by round, moderately dense punctures, estriate. Humeral angles widely rounded, obtuse. Lateral deflected elytral border very narrow. Epipleura gradually narrow and almost reach sutural angle. Mesocoxal cavities open, trochantine not visible. Meso- and metaventrite, mesepimeron and metepisterna with coarse and moderately dense puncturation, mesepisterna with sparse and less finer puncturation. Abdomen.Abdominal ventrites densely punctured by comparatively small punctures. Intersegmental membranes absent between 3–5 ventrites. Ventrite 5 not beaded at apex. Male inner sternite VIII elongate, with obtuse apices. Legs short,densely and finely punctured.Tibiae straight.Protarsomeres 1and 2subequal in length; mesotarsomere 1 slighly longer than the second one; first metatarsomere 2 times as long as the second one. Etymology. The species is named in honour of Carsten Gröhn, who made an extraordinary contribution to the study of the fossil amber insects. Comparative diagnosis. See above.

Genus Archaeoluprops gen. n. (Figs 1, 2) Type species: Archaeoluprops groehni sp. n. Diagnosis of the new tribe and genus. Tarsal formula 5-5-4. Trochanters heteromeroid. Body robust, shiny, pubescent with erected and suberected comparatively long setae at least dorsally (Fig. 1A). Eyes large, reniform (Fig. 2A). Maxillary apical palpomere triangular, elongate. Antennae moniliform. Lateral margins and base of pronotum coarsely beaded. Prosternum long before procoxae, prosternal process comparatively wide, not convex (Fig. 1B). Mesocoxal cavities open (partly closed by an extension of the mesepimeron) (Fig. 2B). Metaventrite with long median groove. Elytra non-striate, densely confusedly punctuate (Fig. 1A). Epipleura almost reaching elytral suture angle. Intersegmental membranes not visible between 3–5 ventrites, hinging tentyrioid (Fig. 1B), defensive glands absent. Outer edge of the ventrite 5 is formed into a groove which receives the elytral edges. Preapical tarsomeres cupuliform. Etymology. The name is combined from archaeo- (ancient—Greek origin) and Luprops, the name of a tenebrionid genus within the tribe Lupropini Ardoin, 1958. Comparison. Archaeoluprops groehni sp. n. is externally similar to the representatives of the tribes Goniaderini and Lupropini by the robust body and estriate elytra, but differs in the absence of intersegmental membranes between abdominal ventrites 3–5 (tentyrioid hinging) and accordingly the primary absence of defensive glands. Archaeolupropini trib. n. differs from: – Adeliini W. The adult of Uloma (Uloma) metogana Ren, 2004, an endemic species to the southeastern Qinghai-Xizang Plateau of China, is redescribed and illustrated. The male of this species is newly discovered, its larva and pupa are described and illustrated for the first time. Meanwhile, sequences of three gene fragments (COI, Cytb and 16S rDNA) are obtained for the larva, pupa and adult to further confirm their identity.

Legs probably yellow, because of femoral apices are clearly dark. Length 8.8 mm. Head wider, than anterior margin of pronotum. Eyes large, transverse diameter of one eye 1.3 times as long as interocular distance. Ocular index 26.Apical maxillary palpomere strongly securiform, with moderately oblique apical margin. Antennae not serrate, with strongly elongate and thin antennomeres (comparative length of antennae and the majority of antennomeres cannot be determined). Prothorax. Pronotum weakly transverse (1.375 as wide as long), widest at base, looks bare, 1.3 times as wide as head at eye level. Lateral margins straight at least at basal third and weakly rounded and narrowed to apical margin at apical 2/3. Base of pronotum weakly bisinuate; posterior angles look weakly acute. Puncturation of pronotum dense and moderately coarse, puncture diameter subequal to distance between punctures. Pterothorax. Scutellar shield with slightly rounded margins. Elytral base wider than pronotal base. Elytra 1.5 as wide as head and 1.13 times as wide (at maximal level of elytral basal part) as pronotum; surface looks bare (pubescence may not be visible under the white coating), at least without dense long erect pubescence; with deep striae, consisting of round deep punctures; puncture diameter slightly longer than interpuncture distance. Interstriae slightly convex. Abdomen (Fig. 1C). Abdominal ventrites 1–3 beaded, 4 and 5 ones not beaded; ventrite 3 with oblique laterial margins; ventrite 5 widely rounded. Legs (Figs1B,C). Femora thickened, strong, light, with dark apices.Tibiae without dense suberected pubescence. Pro- and mesotibiae clearly curved, metatibiae slightly curved. Tarsal claws large and hollow (Fig. 1B, inset); anterior claws with 19 (9+10) teeth on both sides Etymology. The species is named in memory of Dr. Milton J. Campbell (December 19, 1936 — August 6, 2022), the famous specialist on comb-clawed beetles of the New World. Comparative diagnosis. The new species belongs to the subgenus Duocula Novák, 2019 in the presence of teeth on both sides of hollow claw. The new species is most similar externally to O. amica Novák, 2019 from Nepal in the presence of dark femoral apices with more or less distinct colour borders, straight lateral margins of pronotum at least at basal third and the absence of erected or suberected long dense pubescence on elytra and tibiae. The new species differs from O. amica by the less dense puncturation of the pronotum (puncture diameter longer than interpuncture distance in O. amica) and the shape of the pronotum with pointed at apex basal angles (narrowly rounded apices in O. amica). The new species has darkened part only at the most distal part of femora, while femora of O. amica are darkened at the distal quarter. Merkl, 2003" (Hungarian Natural History Museum). Diagnosis. This species is easily distinguished from the other congeners by the combination of the following characteristics: the body being pale reddish brown; the pronotum being widest near the anterior margin; the outer margin of the foretibiae being sinuate owing to rounded weak tooth at middle. The head shape is similar to those of R. costata and R. hosoishii sp. nov. but the other characteristics including the body color are rather similar to those of Durandius ardoini. The foretibial shape is intermediate between R. costata (and R. hosoishi sp. nov.) and D. ardoini; the outer margin of the former is almost straight but the that of the latter bears rounded weak tooth. Measurements of examined specimen. BL, 4.4; HL, 0.688; HW, 1.45; PL, 0.88; PW, 1.538; EL, 2.8; FTL, 0.562; MTL, 0.623. Comments. This species was described based on a single, old specimen collected in “ Siam, Gylden, Pak Koh (no other data).” Ferrer and Moragues (2000: 104) stated “Pak Koh” is Laos but they mapped the place of “Pak Koh” in an old map of Thailand. “Pak Koh” is apparently in Thailand. Dr. Sasitorn Hasin of Thailand checked some old maps of Siam, Thailand and the Lanna Kingdom to find Pak Koh but could not find it. She said that the position of "Pak Koh" is quite same position as "Pak Pan Railway Station" which is a minor train station and its position is close to Den Chai train station, Den Chai District, Phrae Province. As is often the case in Ferrer's papers, the outline of the habitus figure of the species is not very accurate. Genus Rondoniella Kaszab, 1970 Rondoniella Kaszab, 1970: 112 (original description). Diagnosis. In R. costata and R. hosoishii sp. nov. the abdomen has no membranes between the ventrites 3 to 5, and the procoxal cavities externally closed behind, these characters are common with the other genera of the tribe Cnemeplatiini. The head is triangularly flabellate in form, and covered with scale-like setae, with a sulcus on the gular plate for receiving the antenna, and also the pronotum (venter) with a shallow excavation for receiving the antennal club; these characteristics are unique. Additional description. Mouthparts. Labrum (Fig. 8) elongate, longer than wide, sparsely setiferous anteriorly, with some imbricate villi along apical margin, without epitorma at middle; tormal arms long, without posterior extension. Mandibles (Figs 9, 10) much reduced, apices pointed, apices to inner margin weakly sclerotized, mola rudimental and very small in the basalmost portion, without transverse ridges for grinding, entirely covered with prostheca, which bears dense and microscopic setulae; scissorial lobe with apex fringed with filmy margin, neither toothed nor incurved. Ligula (Fig. 11) simple and reduced, transverse, slightly emarginate at apex. In maxilla (Fig. 12), lacinia divided, densely pubescent over all, without uncus; apical pubescence of galea long and dense; ultimate maxillary palpomere enlarged, elongate oval. Hind wings (Fig. 13) short, apical flecks present, lacking medial fleck; venation is rather thick, without Anal Lobe (AP 1+2 & AP 3+4) in anal field (as modified from Lawrence & Britton, 1991); vein CuA 1+2 is linked; Radiomedical Loop very broadened; RP is short, lost in basal part. Ovipositor and cuticular parts of representative female genital tubes (Figs 16, 17) are very primitive in the Tenebrionidae; gonostyle rudimental and apical; oviduct ventrally basal; primary bursa copulatrix short and large; spermathecal gland apical, very short; coxite reduced, with lobes 3 and 4 fused; paraproct slightly longer than coxite; protigeral baculus clear, baculi-1 and baculi-2 distinctively sclerotized. Defensive glands lost, bearing only short thin membrane. Comments. Durandius Kaszab, 1970 Durandius Kaszab, 1970: 115 (original description). Comments. Most of the characteristics of the genus Durandius fit well with those of the genus Rondoniella.Although Kaszab (1970) accounted for the genus as distinguishing characteristics, the truncated anterior margin of the head, the character states of prothoracic hypomera and of antennal form are considered to be diagnosis of the species in the genus rather than a synapomorphy. The rounded tooth of foretibia is also recognizable in that of Rondoniella bremeri Ferrer & Moragues. However, we confirmed that Durandius ardoini does not share the character state, prothoracic cavity for receiving antennomeres, which is observed in the Rondoniella species, and the gular shape of D. ardoini is also considerably different from that of Rondoniella species. Also, the mouthparts are less strange than in Rondoniella: in Durandius ardoini the labrum is circular, not elongate as in Rondoniella, and the mandibles are well developed and slightly visible in ventral view while invisible in ventral view and apparently degenerated in Rondoniella. At the moment it is difficult to determine whether Durandius is a synonym of Rondoniella, so we will tentatively leave Durandius as an independent genus. Rondoniella hosoishii sp. nov. (Figs 2–4, 8–17) Type series. Holotype. ♂, "[CAMBODIA] / Plot RK14 / Ratanakiri Prov. / N13 34, E 106 55 / 6. v. 2013 / S. Hosoishi leg." (KUM). Paratypes. 1 ♂, 3 ♀♀, same data as the holotype (KUM). Etymology. The specific epithet is cordially dedicated to Dr. Shingo Hosoishi (Kyushu University), who collected the type series. Diagnosis. Rondoniella hosoishii sp. nov. is most closely similar to R. costata Kaszab, 1970 in color and general body shape, but distinguished from it by the lateral depression of the pronotum being narrower, the punctation on the pronotum being finer, the striae on the elytra less clear, the tibiae being broader and less punctate, the tarsi being shorter and thicker. Description. Body cylindrical, subparallel-sided. Color grayish black-brown overall. Male. Head triangular, rounded at apex, with lateral margins weakly bisinuate, and with posterior margin almost straight though shallowly emarginate medially; disc laterally strongly depressed, flattened around clypeus, inner part of eyes margined, angled at posterior end; eyes small, their diameter less than half of distance between eyes; surface granulate-punctate and covered with scale-like setae; both of punctation and setation becoming sparser and finer toward lateral margins. Venter of head densely with granules and punctures, with a longitudinal and subparallel-sided elevation in middle, the elevation weakly depressed in middle, with dense and circular tubercles; ventral eyes weakly convex, situated at posterior end beside the elevation; mentum transverse, large, strongly emarginate at apex, with a pair of connecting rods at middle of posterior margin; gula roundly convex, with dense tubercles becoming gradually larger anteriad, microscopic punctures between tubercles with short setae. Pronotum subtrapezoid, widest around anterior 1/4; anterior margin almost straight but shallowly emarginate medially; lateral margins rounded and narrowed posteriad to angled postero-lateral corners; posterior margin widely rounded, margined and slightly depressed; disc gently convex, but strongly depressed antero-laterally, with a shallow longitudinal groove medially, which is terminated at posterior round depression; surface granulate-punctate; punctation becoming smaller and finer toward antero-lateral corners where only finely punctate. Venter of prothorax with distinct prothoracic cavity for receiving antennomeres. Prothoracic hypomera weakly depressed, with large and circular tubercles. Prosternum unevenly convex, densely and irregularly tuberculate; prosternal process cuneiform, strongly bent inward. Mesoventrite densely tuberculate, subvertical posteriorly between coxae. Metaventrite weakly convex, unevenly depressed along posterior margin, evenly covered with tubercles, and without transverse sulci. Abdomen weakly convex in middle and slightly depressed laterally, densely tuberculate. Elytra oblong oval, widest around basal 1/3, slightly narrowed from middle toward base; nine striae slightly convex, each formed by a row of granules; surface weakly granulate-punctate; epipleura uneven, reaching almost apices of elytra, densely tuberculate, not beaded beside metepisternum. Legs short and robust, densely with small granules and large punctures; femora rather flat, gently dilated toward near middle; tibiae dilated apicad; foretibiae with ecto-apical angles strongly produced; inner margin of hindtibia with a smooth longitudinal line. Aedeagus slender; median lobe 1.21 times as long as the length of apicale and basale combined; basale weakly divergent posteriorly, almost entirely opened ventrally, 1.26 times as long as apicale; apicale confluent at apex, dorsally with a pair of rounded notches at base, sparsely setiferous apically. A new species of the genus Enanea (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Diaperinae), E. baba sp. n., is described and illustrated from Southwest China, based on a male specimen from Dulongjiang in northwestern Yunnan. Diagnostic characters of the new species are provided. This is the first record of an Enanea species from the Chinese Mainland, which represents a remarkable extension of the known range of the genus.

Body length 4.2–4.5 mm (for measurements of head, pronotum and elytra see Fig. 1). Body and antennae dull blackish, surface chagreened, legs dark redbrown. Head 1.1x as long as wide, widest across genae. Tempora straight conical before cervix, cervix not separated from tempora. Genae arched from posterior margin of eyes to the widest part, there straight conical to clypeus. Clypeus medially slightly excavated. Suborbital costa indistinct. Head between genae and clypeus with longitudinal impression. Eyes completely divided by genae. Dorsal punctures large, but separated, towards clypeus diminishing, without distinct setae; surface on vertex dull, on clypeus shining. Antennae short and broad, shape of antennomeres as in Fig. 1, antennomere three 1.2x longer than antennomere two, antennomeres 1–9 with dull surface, antennomeres 10 and 11 with shining surface and with longer yellow setae. Pronotum cylindrical, 1.2–1.3x longer than wide, widest shortly before anterior angles; before anterior angles somewhat excavated, angles not protruding; posterior angles rectangular; lateral margins completely lacking, anterior and posterior margins straight. Pronotal disc medially without impression. Punctures slightly denser and larger than on vertex, but not confluent, without setae. Prosternal apophysis bent down. Elytra convex and elongate oval, widest across middle, 2.0x longer than wide, with indistinct rows of fine, sparse punctures, size of punctures smaller than on pronotum, and more separate, punctures without visible setae. All intervals flat, glabrous. Humeral angles without teeth and completely absent. Upper margin of epipleura flat, nearly invisible, epipleura with irreguar punctation (Fig. 2). Legs indistinctly covered with lighter hairs. Ventrites with fine and separated punctures without setae, punctures denser on posterior ventrites, surface chagreened (Fig. 2). Aedeagus (Fig. 5) with basale as long as apicale, basale broader than apicale, apicale with acute apex. Diagnosis. D. siamicus sp. n. together with D. cylindricollis Kaszab, 1975 from central India lack the lateral margins of the pronotum (see couplet 1/ 2 in the identification key of the Oriental species by Kaszab 1981). All other known Oriental species have distinct lateral margins. However, in D. cylindricollis the elytra are shorter (1.7x longer than wide), have distinct punctural rows, the head is as long as wide, and the cervix is distinctly separated from the tempora (Kaszab 1975). Named after Siam, the old name of Thailand, where the type series was collected. Remarks. Dichillus grimmi sp. n. (Figs 3, 4, 6) Type material. Holotype: ♀, Thailand, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, 4 km NW Sam Roi Yot, 12°16′N 99°56′E, 10 m, 11–13.V.2016, leg. R. Fouquè, NMPC. Description. Body length 3.2 mm (for measurements of head, pronotum and elytra see Fig. 3). Body and appendages dull redbrown, surface chagreened, elytra blackish. Head as long as wide, widest across genae. Tempora nearly parallel before cervix. Genae arched from posterior margin of eyes to the widest part, there arched and directly narrowed to clypeus. Clypeus medially excavated. Suborbital costa lacking. Head between genae and clypeus with longitudinal impression. Eyes completely divided by genae. Dorsal punctures large, on vertex slightly confluent, towards clypeus diminishing, with fine and short forward-oriented yellow setae; surface on vertex dull, on clypeus shining. Antennae short and extremely broad, shape of antennomeres as in Fig. 3, antennomere three 1.5x longer than antennomere two, antennomeres 1–9 with dull surface, antennomeres 10 and 11 with shining surface and with longer yellow setae. Pronotum cordiform, 1.35x longer than wide, widest shortly before anterior angles, lateral margins parallel in basal third; anterior angles rounded, not protruding; posterior angles rectangular; anterior and posterior margins straight, lateral margins without distinct dentation, not beaded. Pronotal disc medially with weak longitudinal impression. Punctures dense and large as on vertex, but not confluent, with adpressed yellow setae as on head. Prosternal apophysis bent down. Elytra convex and round-oval, widest across middle, 1.3x longer than wide, with 10 rows of punctures, size of punctures similar to those on pronotum, but more separate, punctures with adjected microsetae. Alternate intervals 3, 5, 7 and 9 with weak tuberculated costae; costae with short but erect yellow setae pointing backwards. Humeral angles without teeth and completely absent. Upper margin of epipleura sharp, epipleura in posterior part with one row of punctures (Fig. 4). Legs covered with fine light adherent hairs. Abdominal ventrites with small punctures with fine setae, punctures of last ventrite slightly denser and smaller, surface of last ventrite lighter than of basal ventrites (Fig. 4). Aedeagus unknown, only female available. Female genitalia see Fig. 6. Diagnosis. D. grimmi sp. n. can be recognised among all Oriental species by the extremely broad antennae, by the convex and round elytra without humeral teeth (except in D. siamicus sp. n.), by the alternate elytral intervals with weak tuberculated costae with erect setation, and by the sharp upper margin of epipleura. In the key to the Oriental species by Kaszab (1981), D. grimmi sp. n. runs to the last couplet 27/28 (D. chujoi Kaszab, 1966 and D. longicollis Kaszab, 1981). However, both species are smaller (2–2.6 mm), have longer and narrow antennae, long elongate and flat elytra without distinct setation and without costae in the intervals 3, 5 (aedeagi unknown). According to Kaszab (1981), all Oriental species (4) with extremely thick antennae as in D. grimmi sp. n. possess distinct humeral teeth, and are distributed more western in Pakistan, Baluchistan, Kashmir and northern India. Psammocryptus Kraatz, 1865 Psammocryptus Kraatz, 1865: 239. Type species: Tentyria minuta Tauscher, 1812, by monotypy. Diagnosis. Body small, robust. Anterior margin of epistoma with triangular asymmetric tooth in middle. Eyes weakly convex to almost flattened. Frontal keels above eyes poorly developed. Mandibles deeply bifurcated at apex, with additional dorsal tooth and inner molar tooth. Labrum partially visible dorsally. Eyes weakly emarginated at anterior and posterior margins (lateral view), narrowed from upper to lower parts, not divided (partly or completely) into dorsal and ventral portions by genae. Ventral side of head with wide transverse depression (not deep groove with clear edges).Antennae short, weakly widened to apex, antennomeres 8–11 slightly flattened, antennomeres 8 and 9 with outer lateral area of sensillar brush, 9 th one with two lateral areas of sensillar brush. Head and pronotum usually coarsely and densely punctured. Pronotum more or less cordate, with distinct angles; posterior angles always pointed at apex; base completely bordered, weakly bisinuate or rounded. Prothoracic hypomera coarsely and densely punctured. Elytral base wider than pronotal base, completely widely bordered, with vertical edge, in which base of pronotum rests. Humeral angles well developed. Scutellum also with vertical edge. Elytra with distinct 9 striae of round punctures and short scutellar striole. Epipleura reaching sutural angle. Hind wings absent. Mesoventrite with coarse longitudinal or rarely round foveolate punctures in anterior half and finely and sparsely punctured apophysis between mesocoxae. Legs short, robust; male femora with small brush spot on inner side. Male genitalia are typical for Palaearctic Tentyriini and do not differ from the other genera of the tribe. Notes. The genus belongs to the Hyperops genus group, created by KඈർH (1943) for the taxa of Tentyriini with the hair brush on the inner side of the male femora. The four genera of this group, Hyperops Eschscholtz, 1831, Freyitia Koch, 1943, Psammocryptus and Tamena Reitter, 1900, can be distinguished using the key below. BඈGൺඍർHൾඏ (1965) proposed to include Tamena (Fig. 2) as a subgenus within Psammocryptus but we do not support this proposal yet, because differences between these two taxa are clear. Grazing may represent a major threat to biodiversity in arid grasslands. The increasing use of grasslands for solar parks may represent a new important threat. No study has investigated the effects of solar parks on soil insects. Tenebrionids are a major component of the arthropod fauna of grasslands of central Asia. These ecosystems are threatened by grazing and increasing land use for solar parks. Aim of this work was to investigate the effects of grazing and solar panels on tenebrionids in arid grasslands (desert steppe) in China by comparing their community structure in ungrazed, heavily grazed, and solar park sites. Beetles were sampled by pitfall traps, and sites were compared for abundance and diversity (Hill numbers). All sites were characterized by simple, strongly dominated tenebrionid communities. Species proportions varied among sites. Grazing negatively influenced overall abundance, but did not alter species proportions; by contrast, solar panels had no effect on the average abundance, but reduced the proportion of the most abundant species. Compared with the other two sites, the solar park was characterized by a higher plant biomass and lower temperatures. A major availability of resources and less harsh conditions in the solar park might have a role in reducing the dominance of the most abundant species, allowing other species to attain higher abundances. This led to a more balanced community structure, with higher values of diversity. Although neither grazing nor solar panel installation modified radically tenebrionid species-abundance distribution or diversity, grazing and solar panel installation had different effects in species abundances and their impact might amplify the effect of other disturbance factors such as the ongoing climate change.
