Hieracium loscosianum Scheele (1863: 668) Type:—[SPAIN. Teruel], Maestrazgo. In Monte Tolocha, 186[?], Loscos s.n. (COI barcode COI00041675, lectotype, designated here) (Fig. 1). = Hieracium jabalambrense Pau (1889: 22). Type:—[SPAIN] Teruel, Javalambre, s.d., C. Pau s.n. Reverchon [Plantes d’Espagne 1900, province de Grenade], Exsiccatum “Hieraciotheca Hispanica” No. 154 (BC barcode BC 924112, lectotype designated here: Fig. 2; isolectotype: BM barcode BM001050693 (image available at https://data.nhm.ac.uk/object/ 332bea2c-7049-4839-a11b-40fe74d38044/1638403200000). = Hieracium capillosum Pau (1903: 286). Type:—[SPAIN] Castellón, Sierra de El Toro, June 1903, C. Pau s.n. (MA barcode MA 143094, lectotype designated by Ferrer-Gallego et al. (2019: 75), or perhaps holotype). Notes:—The French hieraciologist Jean Maurice Casimir Arvet-Touvet (1841–1913) and Maurice Clément Gaston Gautier (1841–1911) distributed between 1897 and 1908, 20 set issued of an exsiccata series, under the name Hieraciotheca gallica et hispanica. These exsiccata bear a total of 2070 numbers, 10 sets issued with 1,643 numbers mainly from the Alps and Pyrenees (Hieraciotheca gallica), and 10 sets issued with 427 numbers from Spain and Andorra (Hieraciotheca hispanica). This species was distributed in the exsiccata “ Hieraciotheca Hispanica ” with the number 154. In particular, this material is original of an exsiccata collected by Elisée Reverchon “Plantes d’Espagne 1900”, distributed under the number 1213. In the herbarium at BC, there is a specimen of this exsiccate. The sheet with barcode BC 924112 bears two plants and two original printed labels of Arvet-Touvet and Gautier. The first label includes the phrase “Hieraciotheca Hispanica”, the name “ Hier. granatense Arv. - T. et G. Gaut.”, the number 154, a complete description in Latin, and a diagnostic comment. The second label includes the title “ C. Arvet-Touvet et G. Gautier / Hieraciotheca Hispanica / Sect. Cerinthoidea Koch / Gr. Pogonata A.- T.”, the number “154”, the name “ Hier. granatense Arv. - T. et G. Gaut.”, marked as “ forma 1 ”, the geographical provenance as “ Espagne: Sierra del Pinar, près la Pobla de don Fadrique, les prairies, sur le calcaire; alt. 1900 m énv.”, and date and collector “ Juillet 1900, legit Elisée Reverchon / Plantes d’Espagne 1900, province de Grenade ” (Fig. 2). On the other hand, there is another specimen of this gathering at BM, with barcode BM 001050693. The sheet bears seven complete and well-developed plants, and an original printed label of the Reverchon’s exsiccata, annotated as “Elisée Recherchon – Plantes d’Espagne – 1900 / Province de Granade / Nº 1213 / Hieracium granatense Arv. - Touv. et Gaut. / Species nova in sched. 1900, teste Arv.Touv. / Sierra del Pinar, praires rocheuses, sur le calcaire, 1.900 métres. Rare. / Juillet”. These two specimens are the original material of the name H. granatense, and they belong to the same species currently named as H. loscosianum. Accordingly, we designate as the lectotype of Hieracium granatense the specimen with barcode BC 924112., Published as part of Ferrer-Gallego, P. Hieracium aragonense Scheele (1863: 667) [‘ arragonense ’] Type (lectotype, designated here):— [SPAIN. Teruel], Monte Tolosa, s.d., Loscos s.n. (COI barcode COI00041604!) (Fig. 1). The protologue of H. aragonense includes a complete description in Latin of this species, followed by the provenance “In monte Tolocha [Tolosa] Arragoniae: Loscos no. 341!” [sic], and a diagnosis to differentiate this species from “ H. caesium Fr.! Rb. ic. t. 163. II” (Scheele 1863: 667–668). We have found a relevant original material in the Willkomm herbarium at COI. The specimen with barcode COI 00041604 bears four complete and well-developed plants, with leaves and capitula. The sheet contains also several labels, one of them is a label original of the Loscos’s herbarium, and was annotated by Willkomm as “Franc. Loscos, plantae Aragoniae australis. / Hieracium aragonense Scheele / Abundant in monte / Tolosa / Leg. 186 [this number represents the year of collection, although the last digit is missing] / Det. Willkomm”. The sheet bears also a label handwritten by Scheele, annotated as: “ Hieracium arragonense mihi! […]” followed by a complete description of the plant. A third label is a revision label of Arvet–Touvet, and is annotated as: “Sect. Cerinthoidea! Gr. Microcerinthea! / Hier. aragonense Scheele! / forma! / Arv.– T.” (Fig. 1). We have been unable to locate any further original material in the relevant consulted herbaria (e.g., B, BM, G, JE, K, LY, MA, MPU, P, W, etc.). However, there are six specimens of H. aragonense preserved in the Loscos herbarium of the Sociedad Económica Aragonesa de Amigos del País (Zaragoza, Spain). Among this material, three specimens, numbered as 1644, 1646, and 1648, were collected in “Tolocha”, the same provenance that was indicated by Scheele in the protologue (see González Bueno & Muñoz Garmendia 2001: 232–233). The specimen numbered 1646 could be a probable duplicate of the material preserved at COI. However, it lacks the date of collection; but Scheele did not indicate a collection date for the gathering mentioned in the protologue. Thus, the specimen in the Loscos herbarium could be perhaps a duplicate of the specimen at COI. In conclusion, as the specimen COI 00041604 is a complete and informative material, and matches to the traditional concept and current use of the name, we designate this specimen as the lectotype of H. aragonense. It shows diagnostic features as the glabrous leaves on the adaxial surface, with numerous simple eglandular hairs beneath and on the margin; basal leaves 40–60 × 20–30 mm, ovate, lanceolate or elliptical, dentate near the base, narrowed into a conspicuous petiole; cauline leaves 0–l(–2), small; capitula 1–3, peduncles with numerous stellate and sparse glandular hairs, involucre 8–10 × 6–9 mm; phyllaries with few stellate hairs, numerous glandular hairs and sometimes a few simple eglandular hairs (see Arvet-Touvet 1913, Zahn 1930, Sell & West 1976, Mateo & Egido 2017, Mateo et al. 2017)., Published as part of Ferrer-Gallego, P. Hieracium elisaeanum Arvet-Touvet ex Willkomm (1893: 120) Type (lectotype, designated here):— [SPAIN. Alicante], Valentia, Sierra de Castalla, July 1890, P. Porta & G. Rigo s.n. (P barcode P03686242!) (Fig. 3). The protologue of H. elisaeanum includes a complete description in Latin, followed by the provenance and a mention of two gatherings: “In Aragon. australi (Sierra de Javalambre ad rup. calcar. alt. 2000 m, Reverchon, Jul. 1891 et 1892) et regno Valent. (Sierra de Castalla in rupestrib. calc., alt. 1400–1800 m, Porta et Rigo, Jul. 1890)”. The protologue also includes this information: “1879 ter. Hieracium Elisaeanum Arv. Touv. sp. n. in sched. pl. exs. Reverch. Decemb. 1892 et in litt. ad Hervier (H. baeticum et flocciferum Arv. T. prius in plant. exs. Reverch. anni 1891, H. bellidifolium Porta et Rigo ap. Porta, Vegt. p. 44! non Scheele)”. We have found a specimen, herbarium sheet with barcode P 03686242, that belong to the Porta & Rigo’s exsiccatum mentioned in the protologue (regno Valent., Sierra de Castalla in rupestrib. calc., alt. 1400–1800 m, Porta et Rigo, Jul. 1890). This sheet bears four complete and well-developed plants, and an original printed label, annotated as: “Nº. / Hieracium bellidifolium Scheele Prodr. II. 261. / Valentina, in rupestribus Sierra Castalla / sol. calcar. 1400–1800 m.s.m. Jul. / Porta et Rigo. iter II Hispanicum 1890” (Fig. 3). This specimen is therefore a syntype of H. elisaeanum, and according to Art. 9.12 of the ICN, it has precedence in the lectotype designation before the uncited specimens and the cited and not quoted illustrations that comprise the remaining original material, if such really exist. Fortunately, this syntype at P is well preserved and complete, and shows several of the diagnostic characters used to differentiate this taxon as the apex of the rhizome with dense, long hairs, cauline leaves elliptical to ovate–lanceolate; capitula (1–)2–3; involucre 7–9(–11) mm long, with numerous stellate and few glandular hairs; achenes (1.5–) 2.3–2.8 mm long, and matches the traditional concept and current use of the name (see Arvet–Touvet 1913, Zahn 1930, Sell & West 1976, Mateo & Egido 2017, Mateo et al. 2017). Accordingly, we designate as the lectotype of H. the specimen kept at P., Published as part of Ferrer-Gallego, P.
