Background: The 2022 War in Ukraine has significantly affected the psychological well-being and daily lives of people in many countries. Objective: Two aims of this transnational study were (1) to compare psychological distress and coping strategies among people living in Ukraine, Poland, and Taiwan, (2) to examine whether the associations between various coping strategies (ie. problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, and avoidance) and psychological distress (ie. depression, anxiety, stress, posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms, and hopelessness about the ongoing war) differed among people of various countries during the initial stage of the 2022 War in Ukraine. Method: In total, 1,598 participants (362 from Ukraine, 1,051 from Poland, and 185 from Taiwan) were recruited using an online advertisement to complete online survey questionnaires, including the Brief Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced inventory; the 21-item Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale; the Impact of Event Scale-Revised; and a questionnaire devised to assess the level of hopelessness about the ongoing war. Results: Psychological distress and adoption of coping strategies differed across people of various countries. Among Taiwanese and Polish respondents, avoidant coping strategies were most strongly associated with all categories of psychological distress compared with problem- and emotion-focused coping strategies. However, the associations of various coping strategies with psychological distress differed to a less extent among Ukrainian respondents. In addition, problem- and emotion-focused coping strategies had comparable associations with psychological distress among the people of Ukraine, Poland, and Taiwan. Conclusions: The 2022 War in Ukraine has affected the psychological well-being of people, especially the Ukrainians. Because of the strong association between the adoption of avoidance coping strategies and psychological distress, despite a less extent among Ukrainian respondents, adaptive coping strategies such as (problem- and emotion-focused) are suggested to help people during times of war. The 2022 War in Ukraine affected the psychological well-being in Ukraine and elsewhere. Compared with problem- and emotion-focused coping strategies, avoidant coping strategies had stronger association with psychological distress, but it varied among different cultures.

This study aimed to adapt the Personal Meaning Profile-Brief (PMP-B) to the Spanish-speaking population and investigate its psychometric properties. The PMP-B is a 21-item instrument that assesses meaning in life through seven sources: relationship, intimacy, achievement, self-acceptance, self-transcendence, fair treatment, and religion.Participants were 546 Spanish adults comprised of a community sample (The PMP-B showed a bifactor structure with one general factor and seven subfactors. Measurement invariance was found across age, gender, and samples. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were generally good. Older people showed higher PMP-B scores than younger people. The PMP-B scores, especially relational sources of meaning, were positively associated with psychological well-being and negatively related to psychological distress, mainly to depression. The validity evidence gathered in this study supports the reliable use of the PMP-B to measure meaning in life. The PMP-B can be a noteworthy contribution to the meaning-centered research.

This study examined the role of different psychological coping mechanisms in mental and physical health during the initial phases of the COVID-19 crisis with an emphasis on meaning-centered coping.A total of 11,227 people from 30 countries across all continents participated in the study and completed measures of psychological distress (depression, stress, and anxiety), loneliness, well-being, and physical health, together with measures of problem-focused and emotion-focused coping, and a measure called the Meaning-centered Coping Scale (MCCS) that was developed in the present study. Validation analyses of the MCCS were performed in all countries, and data were assessed by multilevel modeling (MLM).The MCCS showed a robust one-factor structure in 30 countries with good test-retest, concurrent and divergent validity results. MLM analyses showed mixed results regarding emotion and problem-focused coping strategies. However, the MCCS was the strongest positive predictor of physical and mental health among all coping strategies, independently of demographic characteristics and country-level variables. The findings suggest that the MCCS is a valid measure to assess meaning-centered coping. The results also call for policies promoting effective coping to mitigate collective suffering during the pandemic.

PSYCHOMETRICS , *PSYCHOLOGICAL well-being , *LIFE Orientation Test , *ACADEMIC programs , *PSYCHOLOGY of college students - Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyze the dimensionality of the Spanish version of the Revised Life Orientation Test (LOT-R), to examine the relationship between psychological well-being and dispositional optimism/pessimism in a sample of college students (n = 291), as well as to consider the effect of dispositional optimism/pessimism on academic progress. The results indicated that the properties of the Spanish version of the LOT-R (α = .72) were very similar to the original. The questionnaire clearly presented two partially independent factors, and the items assessing optimism demonstrated greater discriminant validity than the items assessing pessimism. Optimism was positively linked to psychological well-being and negatively related to psychological-distress. In the male students, a certain degree of preoccupation about academic results was linked to progress in studies, while excessive worry about academic progress could obstruct the successful completion of studies in the female students. These results suggest that the LOT-R can be used as a reliable and valid tool for the analysis of optimism and its positive effects on health and academic progress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Psychosocial models of adolescent development have pointed to the importance of considering the interrelationship between relevant contexts (family, school and community) in understanding psychosocial adjustment. However, few studies have examined the combined influence of these contexts in the development of specific behavioral problems such as violent behavior in schools. The present study aims to explore the links between the perception of the family, school and community climate on school violence considering the role of subjective well-being and adolescent distress. To test these multiple relationships a sample of 1795 adolescents of both sexes aged between 11 and 18 has been used. Data were analyzed using a structural equation model, including a multi-group analysis for popular and rejected students in the classroom. The results support the expected relationships and the resulting model is equivalent for both sociometric status. The discussion considers the implications of these findings for intervention with adolescents from an individual and contextual perspective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The purpose of the study was to analyze the effects of psychotherapy on the rates of discomfort and psychological well-being reported by 52 consultants attended by the Psychological Care Service of the National University of Colombia (SAP-UN). The symptomatology and index of psychological distress was assessed by the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI-53), while the index of psychological well-being was assessed using the Ryff Psychological Well-being Scale. Some variables were taken into account for the stratification of the sample at the analysis of the results, to demonstrate the effect of some these aspects in the change of the aforementioned indices, such as academic degree, years of clinical expertise, the psychological approach of the therapists and the number of sessions held. The results showed significant differences in the indexes of psychological well-being and discomfort before and after the psychotherapy, showing that the therapeutic intervention carried out in the teaching center is effective.
