This study provides new data for two corticioid species of genus Peniophora Cooke for the Bulgarian mycota, P. piceae and P. pini as wood-decaying saprobes, causing a white rot in coniferous wood. These fungal species have restricted range that follow the spread of the coniferous hosts. P. piceae is known only as saprotroph on dead spruce wood while P. pini prefers dead wood of pine. Dendrothele nivosa is a rare Mediterranean lignicolous species, growing on representatives of the genus Juniperus, hitherto unknown from the Balkans. This wood-decaying fungus was collected on living branches of Savin juniper, a rare and protected plant species, included in the Bulgarian Biological Diversity Act. Dendrothele nivosa is considered to be a white rot saprobe with a restricted range following the distribution of the juniper host. This study is aimed at providing information on the first find of D. nivosa in the Balkans, i.e. in the southwestern part of Bulgaria, on a new substrate, as well as on the possible impact of the fungus on the host population. Five macrofungi are reported for the first time from Bulgaria. One species (Podophacidium xanthomelum) belongs to Ascomycota and four species (Arrhenia obatra, A. sphagnicola, Marasmius curreyi, and Thelephora penicillata) belong to Basidiomycota. Podophacidium (Helotiales) is new to the country at generic level. Descriptions and illustrations of the studied specimens are provided. New localities of about twelve macrofungi are also reported.
