The article presents a study which examines the effectiveness of the Female Cancer Programme (FCP), a cervical cancer awareness campaign offering women visual inspection with acetic acid screening in Mdantsane, South Africa. The study indicates that women in the community are not aware of the risk factors and symptoms of cervical cancer. Furthermore, it suggests the willingness of women to participate in the screening programmes because of increasing awareness of the desire to stay healthy.
