The knowledge about fire danger and propagation is essential for environmental monitoring. This enables the determination of areas susceptible of fire occurrence and can allow the establishment of fire prevention methods. The aim of this study was to set up a methodology to determine the likelihood of fire occurrence with the aid of an index called Fire Danger Index (IPI). The study area included a power line in the State of Tocantins, Brazil. The methodology included the use of dynamic data such as NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) obtained from TERRA MODIS images (MOD13 product) and meteorological data such as temperature, rain and air humidity gathered from automatic weather stations.
