Tradicionalmente, las alucinaciones auditivas verbales han sido estudiadas como un fenómeno individual porque se dan internamente en un individuo aunque se experimentan como un fenómeno social, es decir, un oyente y un hablante interactúan en un intercambio comunicativo. Esto es lo que Vaughan Bell llama "una paradoja interesante". A pesar de la omisión en la investigación neuropsiquiátrica los modelos neurocognitivos actuales apuntan al hecho de que la experiencia de oír voces es en esencia un fenómeno social. En este escrito se presentan los principios básicos de la historia de la neurociencia cognitiva social de las alucinaciones auditivas verbales subrayando el vínculo entre la cognición social y las alucinaciones auditivas verbales. In this paper is presented the basic historical tenets of the social cognitive neuroscience of auditory verbal hallucinations highlighting the link between social cognition and auditory verbal hallucinations.
