In this paper we report line shape parameters of 12CH4 for several hundred 2V(sub 3) transitions in the spectral regions 5891-5996 cm( exp -1) (P branch) and 6015-6115 cm(exp -1) (R branch). Air- and self-broadening coefficients were measured as a function of temperature; line mixing via off-diagonal relaxation matrix element coefficients was also obtained for 47 transition pairs. In total, nearly 1517 positions and intensities were retrieved, but many transitions were too weak for the line shape study. For this analysis, we used 25 high-resolution (0.0056 and 0.0067 cm(ex[ -1) and high signal-to-noise (S/N) spectra of high-purity 12CH4 and the same high-purity 12CH4 broadened by dry air recorded at different sample temperatures between 130 K and 295 K with the Bruker IFS 125HR Fourier transform spectrometer at JPL. Three different absorption cells were used (1) a White cell set to a path length of 13.09 m for room temperature data, (2) a single-pass 0.2038 m long coolable cell (for self-broadening) and (3) a multipass cell with 20.941 m total path coolable Herriott cell (for air-broadening). In total there were 13 spectra with pure 12CH4 (0.27-599 Torr) and 12 air-broadened spectra with total sample pressures of 80-805 Torr and volume mixing ratios (VMR) of methane between 0.18 and 1.0. An interactive multispectrum nonlinear least-squares technique was employed to fit the individual P10-P1 and R0-R10 manifolds in all the spectra simultaneously. Results obtained from the present analysis are compared to other recent measurements.

Temperature dependences of pressure-broadened half-width and pressure-induced shift coefficients along with accurate positions and intensities have been determined for transitions in the 2<--0 band of C-12 O-16 from analyzing high-resolution and high signal-to-noise spectra recorded with two different Fourier transform spectrometers. A total of 28 spectra, 16 self-broadened and 12 air-broadened, recorded using high- purity (greater than or equal to 99.5% C-12-enriched) CO samples and CO diluted with dry air(research grade) at different temperatures and pressures, were analyzed simultaneously to maximize the accuracy of the retrieved parameters. The sample temperatures ranged from 150 to 298K and the total pressures varied between 5 and 700 Torr. A multispectrum nonlinear least squares spectrum fitting technique was used to adjust the rovibrational constants (G, B, D, etc.) and intensity parameters (including Herman-Wallis coefficients), rather than determining individual line positions and intensities. Self-and air-broadened Lorentz half-width coefficients, their temperature dependence exponents, self- and air-pressure-induced shift coefficients, their temperature dependences, self- and air-line mixing coefficients, their temperature dependences and speed dependence have been retrieved from the analysis. Speed-dependent line shapes with line mixing employing off-diagonal relaxation matrix element formalism were needed to minimize the fit residuals. This study presents a precise and complete set of spectral line parameters that consistently reproduce the spectrum of carbon monoxide over terrestrial atmospheric conditions.

The temperature dependence of air-broadened halfwidths are reported for some 500 transitions in the (000)-(000) and (010)-(000) bands of H2(16)O using gas sample temperatures ranging from 241 to 388 K. These observations were obtained from infrared laboratory spectra recorded at 0.006 to 0.011 cm(exp-1) resolution with the McMath-Pierce Fourier transform spectrometer located at Kitt Peak. The experimental values of the temperature dependence exponents, eta, were grouped into eight subsets and fitted to empirical functions in a semi-global procedure. Overall, the values of eta were found to decrease with increasing rotational quantum number J. The number of measurements (over 2200) and transitions (586) involved exceeds by a large margin that of any other comparable reported study.

Results are presented of an analysis of 29 room-temperature laboratory absorption spectra of a dilute CH4 sample in dry air, N2, and O2 at total pressures ranging from 60 to 550 torr, yielding values of pressure-broadening and pressure-induced-shift coefficients for more than 450 vibration-rotation transitions in the nu(3), nu(2) + nu(4), and 2nu(2)-super-2 bands of (C-12)H4. Comparisons of the present results for the nu(3) and nu(2) + nu(4) bands with previous measurements on other bands and isotopes of CH4 show that, for a given transition, broadening by air and N2 are nearly equal, and broadening by O2 is smaller by less than 10 percent. It is also found that the pressure shift coefficients are more vibrational dependent than the pressure broadening coefficients.

Accurate measurements of the positions of lines of the (1-0) vibration-rotation bands of HCl-35 and HCl-37 are reported. The new measurements have been derived from a laboratory spectrum recorded with a Fourier transform spectrometer operated at an unapodized spectral resolution of 0.0060/cm. Molecular constants are reported from a simultaneous least-squares analysis of these measurements and selected infrared and far-infrared data taken from the literature. The motivation for the present investigation is the need for improved HCl line positions for use in IR atmospheric remote sensing investigations.

Lorentz-broadening coefficients and pressure-induced line-shift coefficients of 34 individual lines have been determined for the P(40) to R(40) vibration-rotation transitions in the nu(3) fundamental of CO2 using N2 as the buffer gas. The parameters were derived from 0.01/cm resolution infrared absorption spectra recorded using the McMath Fourier transform spectrometer and a nonlinear, least-squares fitting algorithm. It is concluded that the N2-broadening coefficients obtained in the present study agree well with recent high resolution measurements. The results are considered to be of importance not only for predicting the infrared spectrum of the atmosphere due to CO2 absorption or emission but also for verifying theoretical calculations.

Numerous changes made for the 1991 and 1992 versions of the HITRAN database in the 0-6185/cm region for molecular line parameters of methane are described. An assessment of deficiencies in the parameters is presented.

Lorentz-broadening and pressure-induced line-shift coefficients are determined experimentally for 126 transitions in the nu2 band of D2(O-16) from laboratory spectra with a Fourier-transform spectrometer. A nonlinear least-squares fitting procedure is employed to measure transitions up to J double-prime = 12 in the buffer gases air, nitrogen, and oxygen. The N2-broadening/O2-broadening coefficient ratio is correlated with the magnitude of the O2-broadening coefficient, and the pressure coefficients are not correlated with line widths.

Room temperature argon broadened halfwidth and pressure-induced line shift coefficients have been determined for 118 transitions in the nu4 band of (C-12)H4 from analysis of high resolution laboratory absorption spectra recorded with the McMath Fourier transform spectrometer operated on Kitt Peak by the National Solar Observatory. Transitions up to J-double-prime = 12 have been measured using a nonlinear least-squares spectral fitting procedure. The variation of the measured halfwidth coefficients with symmetry type and rotational quantum number is very similar to that measured previously for N2 and air broadening, but the absolute values of the argon broadening coefficients are all smaller. On average, the ratio of the argon broadened halfwidth coefficient to the corresponding N2 broadened halfwidth coefficient is 0.877 + or - 0.017 (2 Sigma). More than 95 percent of the pressure-induced shifts are negative with values ranging from -0.0081 to +0.0055/cm atm. The pressure shifts in argon are nearly equal to corresponding values measured previously in N2 and air.

Air- and nitrogen-broadened half-widths and line shifts at room temperature for more than 60 individual vibration-rotation transitions in the nu1 fundamental band of (O-16)3 and several transitions in the nu3 band were determined from infrared absorption spectra. These spectra were recorded at 0.005/cm resolution with a Fourier-transform spectrometer. A tunable-diode-laser spectrometer operating in the 1090-1150/cm region was also used to record data on oxygen-, nitrogen-, and air-broadened half-widths for selected individual transitions. The nitrogen- and air-broadened half-widths determined by these two different measurement techniques are consistent to within 4 percent. The results are in good agreement with other published measurements and calculations.

Absolute intensities and self-, air- and N2-broadened half-widths have been determined for the first time for individual lines in the nu3(A1) band of (C-12)H3D near 7.6 microns from measurements of individual vibration-rotation lines using a tunable diode laser spectrometer. The intensity measurements are believed to be accurate to within three percent. Within experimental uncertainties, equal broadening efficiencies are found for both air and nitrogen. Self-broadened half-widths determined for three transitions yield an average half-width value of 0.803 + or -0.0010/cm/atm at 296 K.

Air-broadened half-widths of 18 transitions in the nu6 band of H2O2 between 1252/cm and 1291/cm have been determined from spectra recorded at room temperature using a tunable diode laser spectrometer. The preparation of the H2O2 gas samples for the measurements is described, and the data analysis is discussed, including the derivation of Lorentz broadening coefficients and the contribution of molecular collisions to the measured Lorentz half-widths. For the 18 transitions, the half-widths varied from 0.0923/cm/atm to 0.1155/cm/atm at 296 K, with a mean value of 0.1020/cm/atm. An error of less than 10 percent is estimated for these results.

The first experimental measurements of air- and N2-broadened halfwidths of single lines in the nu2 band of D2O were obtained at room temperature, using a semiconductor tunable diode laser operating in the 1250-1340/cm region. The difference observed between air- and N2-broadened halfwidths may be attributed to the different quadrupole moments of the perturbing gas constituents. It is noted that both the airand N2-broadened halfwidths for the two ortho-para doublets are the same, within the present experimental uncertainties.

Tunable diode laser measurements of air-broadened and N2-broadened halfwidths are reported for 23 lines in the nu(4) band of C-13H4, between 1260 and 1360/cm. For all lines, at least three scans of each of four or more pressures were recorded. The experimental halfwidths presently obtained for C-13H4 are both larger and smaller than the U.S. Air Force Geophysics Laboratory values.

Air-broadened and N2-broadened halfwidths at room temperature for twenty-five transitions in the nu-4 fundamental band of (C-12)H4 have been determined from IR absorption spectra recorded with a tunable diode laser spectrometer. Two tunable diode lasers operating in the 1250-1380-kayser region were used to obtain these data. Air-broadened halfwidths for twenty of these lines were also determined from additional spectra recorded at 0.01-kayser resolution with the Fourier transform spectrometer in the McMath solar telescope complex on Kitt Peak. The air-broadened halfwidths obtained from these two techniques are very consistent with agreement better than 3 percent in most cases.

A nonlinear least-squares spectral fitting procedure has been used to derive experimental absolute intensities for over 300 unblended lines belonging to twelve CO2 bands in the 5.2-micron region. The spectral data were recorded at 0.01/cm resolution and room temperature with the Fourier transform spectrometer in the McMath solar telescope complex at the National Solar Observatory on Kitt Peak and have a signal-to-rms noise ratio of 2000-4000. A natural sample of carbon dioxide was used as the sample gas. For each band, the measured line intensities have been analyzed to derive the vibrational band intensity and coefficients of the F factor. The results are compared to the values used to calculate the intensities in the 1982 Air Force Geophysics Laboratory line parameters compilation.

The absolute intensities of individual lines of eleven relatively weak bands of (C-12)(O-16)2, (C-13)(O-16)2, (O-16)(C-12)(O-18), and (O-16)(C-12)(O-17) near 2050/cm were measured and recorded at room temperature and 0.01/cm resolution with the Fourier transform spectrometer located in the McMath solar telescope complex located at the National Solar Observatory on Kitt Peak. Each spectrum was obtained with an integration time of one hour, the temperature and pressure were monitored during this time, and the signal-to-rms noise in the 5 micron region was approximately 4000 for all scans. The intensities were determined from analysis of 1-2/cm segments of spectra using nonlinear least-squares spectral curve fitting, and analyzed to determine the vibrational band intensity and F-factor coefficients for each of the bands. The results are pertinent to a wide variety of problems in atmospheric physics and for the analysis of remote-sensing data.

Absolute intensities for over 800 transitions belonging to twelve bands of (C-12)(O-16)2, (O-16)(C-12)(O-18), (O-16)(C-12)(O-17), and (O-16)(C-13)(O-18) molecules in the 2395-2680/cm spectral region have been derived using a nonlinear least-squares spectral fitting procedure. The data used in the analysis were recorded at room temperature and low pressure with the 0.01/cm resolution Fourier transform spectrometer in the McMath solar telescope complex at the National Solar Observatory. The measured intensities obtained for each band have been analyzed to derive the vibrational band intensity and F-factor coefficients. The results are compared with other published values.

A long path, low pressure laboratory spectrum of carbon dioxide is presented for the spectral region 1830 to 2010/cm. The data were recorded at 0.01/cm resolution and room temperature with the Fourier transform spectrometer in the McMath solar telescope complex at Kitt Peak National Observatory. A list of positions and assignments is given for the 1038 lines observed in this region. A total of 30 bands and subbands of 12C1602, 13C1602, 12C160180, 12C160170, and 13C160180 were observed. An atlas of long-path room-temperature absorption spectra of carbon dioxide is presented for the spectral intervals 1830-2100 cm, 2395-2680 cm, and 3140-3235 cm. The spectral data were recorded at high signal to noise with the 0.01 cm resolution Fourier transform interferometer. The spectra were obtained with pressures between 1 and 10 Torr of CO2 and with total paths between 24 and 384 meters. A compilation of the measured line positions and the assignments derived from the analysis are presented. Of the 3336 lines in the atlas, 94 percent were identified as CO2 lines or as residual lines H2O and CO. Calculated positions are presented for the carbon dioxide lines; a total of 52 bands of C-12O2-16, C-13O2-16, C-12O-16O-18, C-12O-16O-17, and C-13O-16O18 were identified. The weakest carbon dioxide lines marked in the atlas have intensities of approximately 0.5 x 10 to the negative 26th power cm/molecule at room temperature.

A nonlinear least-squares fitting procedure has been used to derive absolute intensities for lines in the P, R, and Q branches of the (11/1/0)II-00/0/0 band of (C-12)(O-16)2 (band center = 1932/cm) from long-path 0.01/cm resolution laboratory spectra. The spectral data were recorded at room temperature and low pressure (less than 10 torr) with the Fourier transform spectrometer in the McMath solar telescope complex at Kitt Peak National Observatory. The observed line intensities were analyzed to derive the vibrational band intensity and F-factor coefficients. To obtain a good fit to the data, it was necessary to include terms in the expression for the F factor, which account for Coriolis-type and Fermi-type interactions and centrifugal distortion effects.
