Building the radio sky template are crucial for detecting the 21 cm emission line signal from the Epoch of Reionization (EoR), as well as for other cosmological research endeavors. Utilizing data from the LOFAR Two-meter Sky Survey (LoTSS) at 150 MHz, we recalibrated the luminosity function for various types of radio sources, including High Excitation Radio Galaxies (HERGs), Low Excitation Radio Galaxies (LERGs), Radio-Quiet Active Galactic Nuclei (RQ-AGNs), and Star-Forming Galaxies (SFGs). We subsequently updated the Tiered Radio Extragalactic Continuum Simulation (T-RECS) code to generate refined mock radio source catalogues. The simulated source counts from this work align more closely with observed data at redshifts greater than $z>4$. Additionally, the differential source counts in total intensity within the flux density range of $0.1-1~\mathrm{mJy}$ closely mirror actual observations. Due to our model incorporating a lower number of faint sources compared to T-RECS, it predicts a reduced power spectrum for point sources, suggesting a potential advantage in studies in low frequency band., Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, accepted by RASTI

Twenty-one-centimetre signals from the Epoch of Reionization (EoR) are expected to be detected in the low-frequency radio window by the next-generation interferometers, particularly the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). However, precision data analysis pipelines are required to minimize the systematics within an infinitesimal error budget. Consequently, there is a growing need to characterize the sources of errors in EoR analysis. In this study, we identify one such error origin, namely source blending, which is introduced by the overlap of objects in the densely populated observing sky under SKA1-Low's unprecedented sensitivity and resolution, and evaluate its two-fold impact in both the spatial and frequency domains using a novel hybrid evaluation (HEVAL) pipeline combining end-to-end simulation with an analytic method to mimic EoR analysis pipelines. Sky models corrupted by source blending induce small but severe frequency-dependent calibration errors when coupled with astronomical foregrounds, impeding EoR parameter inference with strong additive residuals in the two-dimensional power spectrum space. We report that additive residuals from poor calibration against sky models with blending ratios of 5 and 0.5 per cent significantly contaminate the EoR window. In contrast, the sky model with a 0.05 per cent blending ratio leaves little residual imprint within the EoR window, therefore identifying a blending tolerance at approximately 0.05 per cent. Radio relics are Mpc-sized synchrotron sources located in the peripheral regions of galaxy clusters. Models based on the diffuse shock acceleration (DSA) scenario have been widely accepted to explain the formation of radio relics. However, a critical challenge to these models is that most observed shocks seem too weak to generate detectable emission, unless fossil electrons, a population of mildly energetic electrons that have been accelerated previously, are included in the models. To address this issue, we present a new semi-analytical model to describe the formation and evolution of radio relics by incorporating fossil relativistic electrons into DSA theory, which is constrained by a sample of 14 observed relics, and employ the Press-Schechter formalism to simulate the relics in a $20^{\circ} \times 20^{\circ}$ sky field at 50, 158, and 1400 MHz, respectively. Results show that fossil electrons contribute significantly to the radio emission, which can generate radiation four orders of magnitude brighter than that solely produced by thermal electrons at 158 MHz, and the power distribution of our simulated radio relic catalog can reconcile the observed $P_{1400}-M_{\mathrm{vir}}$ relation. We predict that $7.1\%$ clusters with $M_{\mathrm{vir}} > 1.2\times 10^{14}\,\mathrm{M}_{\odot}$ would host relics at 158 MHz, which is consistent with the result of $10 \pm 6\%$ given by the LoTSS DR2. It is also found that radio relics are expected to cause severe foreground contamination in future EoR experiments, similar to that of radio halos. The possibility of AGN providing seed fossil relativistic electrons is evaluated by calculating the number of radio-loud AGNs that a shock is expected to encounter during its propagation., Comment: 15 pages, 20 figures. The shape of the faint-end of the high-z galaxy luminosity function (LF) informs early star formation and reionization physics during the Cosmic Dawn and Epoch of Reionization. Until recently, based on the strong gravitational lensing cluster deep surveys, the Hubble Frontier Fields (HFF) has found a potential turnover in the ultraviolet (UV) LF at z$\sim$6. In this paper, we analyze the contribution of extremely faint galaxies with the magnitude larger than the turnover magnitude in LF to cosmic reionization. We apply the measurement from HFF to our suppressed star formation efficiency model, including three free parameters: halo mass threshold $M_t$, curvature parameter $\beta$ and a UV conversion factor $l_{\rm UV}$. According to our fit of 68\% confidence level, the high-redshift star formation in haloes smaller than $ M_t=1.82^{+2.86}_{-1.08}\times10^{10} \rm M_{\odot}$ is found to be dampened. The turnover magnitude $\rm \gtrsim -13.99-2.45$, correspondingly the halo mass $\lesssim(4.57+20.03)\times10^{9} \rm M_{\odot}$. We find that the absorption trough in the global 21-cm signal is sensitive to our SFE model parameters. Together with ($\beta$, $l_{\rm UV}$) = ($2.17^{+2.42}_{-1.72}$, $9.33^{+0.43}_{-0.42} \rm ~erg~yr ~s^{-1}M_{\odot}^{-1})$, the trough locates at $\sim$ $134^{+10}_{-17}$ $\rm MHz$ with an amplitude of $\sim$ $-237^{-6}_{+7}$ $\rm mK$, compared to (106\rm MHz, -212\rm mK) in the absence of turnover. Besides, we find that the star formation of faint galaxies has also an impact on the 21-cm power spectra. The best fitting peak power decreases by $\sim4\%$ and shifts towards smaller scales from $0.88 h \rm Mpc^{-1}$ to $0.91 h \rm Mpc^{-1}$. We present a new study of the merger dynamics of Abell~1775 by analyzing the high-quality Chandra and XMM-Newton archival data. We confirm/identify an arc-shaped edge (i.e., the head) at $\sim48$~kpc west of the X-ray peak, a split cold gas tail that extends eastward to $\sim163$~kpc, and a plume of spiral-like X-ray excess (within about $81-324$~kpc northeast of the cluster core) that connects to the end of the tail. The head, across which the projected gas temperature rises outward from $3.39_{-0.18}^{+0.28}$~keV to $5.30_{-0.43}^{+0.54}$~keV, is found to be a cold front with a Mach number of $\mathcal{M}\sim0.79$. Along the surfaces of the cold front and tail, typical KHI features (noses and wings, etc.) are found and are used to constrain the upper limit of the magnetic field ($\sim11.2~\mu$G) and the viscosity suppression factor ($\sim0.01$). Combining optical and radio evidence we propose a two-body merger (instead of systematic motion in a large-scale gas environment) scenario and have carried out idealized hydrodynamic simulations to verify it. We find that the observed X-ray emission and temperature distributions can be best reproduced with a merger mass ratio of 5 after the first pericentric passage. The NAT radio galaxy is thus more likely to be a single galaxy falling into the cluster center at a relative velocity of 2800~$\rm km~s^{-1}$, a speed constrained by its radio morphology. The infalling subcluster is expected to have a relatively low gas content, because only a gas-poor subcluster can cause central-only disturbances as observed in such an off-axis merger., Comment: 12 figures, 5 tables, accepted for publication in the ApJ

Diffuse, non-thermal emission in galaxy clusters is increasingly being detected in low-frequency radio surveys and images. We present a new diffuse, steep-spectrum, non-thermal radio source within the cluster Abell 1127 found in survey data from the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA). We perform follow-up observations with the 'extended' configuration MWA Phase II with improved resolution to better resolve the source and measure its low-frequency spectral properties. We use archival Very Large Array S-band data to remove the discrete source contribution from the MWA data, and from a power law model fit we find a spectral index of $-1.83\pm0.29$ broadly consistent with relic-type sources. The source is revealed by the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) at 150 MHz to have an elongated morphology, with a projected linear size of 850 kpc as measured in the MWA data. Using Chandra observations we derive morphological estimators and confirm quantitatively that the cluster is in a disturbed dynamical state, consistent with the majority of phoenices and relics being hosted by merging clusters. We discuss the implications of relying on morphology and low-resolution imaging alone for the classification of such sources and highlight the usefulness of the MHz to GHz radio spectrum in classifying these types of emission. The overwhelming foreground causes severe contamination on the detection of 21-cm signal during the Epoch of Reionization (EoR). Among various foreground components, the Galactic free-free emission is less studied, so that its impact on the EoR observation remains unclear. To better constrain this emission, we perform the Monte Carlo simulation of H$\alpha$ emission, which comprises direct and scattered H$\alpha$ radiation from HII regions and warm ionized medium (WIM). The positions and radii of HII regions are quoted from the WISE HII catalog, and the WIM is described by an axisymmetric model. The scattering is off dust and free electrons that are realized by applying an exponential fitting to the HI4PI HI map and an exponential disk model, respectively. The simulated H$\alpha$ intensity, the Simfast21 software, and the latest SKA1-Low layout configuration are employed to simulate the SKA "observed" images of Galactic free-free emission and the EoR signal. By analyzing the one-dimensional power spectra, we find that the Galactic free-free emission can be about $10^{5.4}$-$10^{2.1}$, $10^{5.0}$-$10^{1.7}$, and $10^{4.3}$-$10^{1.1}$ times more luminous than the EoR signal on scales of $0.1~{\rm Mpc^{-1}} < k < 2~{\rm Mpc^{-1}}$ in the 116-124, 146-154, and 186-194 MHz frequency bands, respectively. We further calculate the two-dimensional power spectra inside the EoR window and show that the power leaked by Galactic free-free emission can still be significant, as the power ratios can reach about $110\%$-$8000\%$, $30\%$-$2400\%$, and $10\%$-$250\%$ on scales of $0.5~{\rm Mpc^{-1}} \lesssim k \lesssim 1~{\rm Mpc^{-1}}$ in three frequency bands. In this work, we employ the observed $\rm H\alpha$ intensity map with the correction of dust absorption and scattering, the Simfast21 software, and the latest SKA1-Low layout configuration to simulate the SKA "observed" images of Galactic free-free emission and the EoR signal. By calculating the one-dimensional power spectra from the simulated image cubes, we find that the Galactic free-free emission is about $10^{3.5}$-$10^{2.0}$, $10^{3.0}$-$10^{1.3}$, and $10^{2.5}$-$10^{1.0}$ times more luminous than the EoR signal on scales of $0.1~\rm Mpc^{-1} < k < 2~\rm Mpc^{-1}$ in the $116$-$124$, $146$-$154$, and $186$-$194$ ${\rm MHz}$ frequency bands. We further analyse the two-dimensional power spectra inside the properly defined EoR window and find that the leaked Galactic free-free emission can still cause non-negligible contamination, as the ratios of its power (amplitude squared) to the EoR signal power can reach about $200\%$, $60\%$, and $15\%$ on scales of $1.2~\rm Mpc^{-1}$ in three frequency bands, respectively. We present a morphological classification of 14,245 radio active galactic nuclei (AGNs) into six types, i.e., typical Fanaroff--Riley Class I / II (FRI/II), FRI/II-like bent-tailed, X-shaped radio galaxy, and ringlike radio galaxy, by designing a convolutional neural network (CNN) based autoencoder, namely MCRGNet, and applying it to a labeled radio galaxy (LRG) sample containing 1442 AGNs and an unlabeled radio galaxy (unLRG) sample containing 14,245 unlabeled AGNs selected from the Best--Heckman sample. We train MCRGNet and implement the classification task by a three-step strategy, i.e., pre-training, fine-tuning, and classification, which combines both unsupervised and supervised learnings. A four-layer dichotomous tree is designed to classify the radio AGNs, which leads to a significantly better performance than the direct six-type classification. On the LRG sample, our MCRGNet achieves a total precision of $\sim 93\%$ and an averaged sensitivity of $\sim 87\%$, which are better than those obtained in previous works. On the unLRG sample, whose labels have been human-inspected, the neural network achieves a total precision of $\sim 80\%$. Also, using the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 7 (DR7) to calculate the $r$-band absolute magnitude ($M_\mathrm{opt}$) and using the flux densities to calculate the radio luminosity ($L_\mathrm{radio}$), we find that the distributions of the unLRG sources on the $L_\mathrm{radio}$--$M_\mathrm{opt}$ plane do not show an apparent redshift evolution and could confirm with a sufficiently large sample that there could not exist an abrupt separation between FRIs and FRIIs as reported in some previous works., Comment: Accepted by ApJS.
