The projected stellar rotational velocity ($v \sin i$) is critical for our understanding of processes related to the evolution of angular momentum in pre-main sequence stars. We present $v \sin i$ measurements of high-resolution infrared and optical spectroscopy for 70 pre-main sequence stars in the Taurus-Auriga star-forming region, in addition to effective temperatures measured from line-depth ratios, and stellar rotation periods determined from optical photometry. From the literature, we identified the stars in our sample that show evidence of residing in circumstellar disks or multiple systems. The comparison of infrared $v \sin i$ measurements calculated using two techniques shows a residual scatter of $\sim$ 1.8 km s$^{-1}$, defining a typical error floor for the $v \sin i$ of pre-main sequence stars from infrared spectra. A comparison of the $v \sin i$ distributions of stars with and without companions shows that binaries/multiples typically have a higher measured $v \sin i$, which may be caused by contamination by companion lines, shorter disk lifetimes in binary systems, or tidal interactions in hierarchical triples. A comparison of optical and infrared $v \sin i$ values shows no significant difference regardless of whether the star has a disk or not, indicating that CO contamination from the disk does not impact $v \sin i$ measurements above the typical $\sim$ 1.8 km s$^{-1}$ error floor of our measurements. Finally, we observe a lack of a correlation between the $v \sin i$, presence of a disk, and H-R diagram position, which indicates a complex interplay between stellar rotation and evolution of pre-main sequence stars., Comment: 20 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

Variability of Classical T Tauri Systems (CTTS) occurs over a vast range of timescales. CTTS in particular are subject to variability caused by accretion shocks which can occur stochastically, periodically, or quasi-periodically on timescales over a few days. The detectability of young planets within these systems is likely hampered by activity; therefore, it is essential that we understand the origin of young star variability over a range of timescales to help disentangle stellar activity from signatures of planetary origin. We present analysis of the stochastic small-amplitude photometric variability in the K2 lightcurve of CI Tau occurring on timescales of $\lesssim$1 d. We find the amplitude of this variability exhibits the same periodic signatures as detected in the large-amplitude variability, indicating that the physical mechanism modulating these brightness features is the same. The periods detected are also in agreement with the rotation period of the star ($\sim$6.6 d), and orbital period of the planet ($\sim$9.0 d) known to drive pulsed accretion onto the star., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ

CI Tau is a young (~2 Myr) classical T Tauri star located in the Taurus star forming region. Radial velocity observations indicate it hosts a Jupiter-sized planet with an orbital period of approximately 9 days. In this work, we analyze time series of CI Tau's photometric variability as seen by K2. The lightcurve reveals the stellar rotation period to be ~6.6 d. Although there is no evidence that CI Tau b transits the host star, a ~9 d signature is also present in the lightcurve. We believe this is most likely caused by planet-disk interactions which perturb the accretion flow onto the star, resulting in a periodic modulation of the brightness with the ~9 d period of the planet's orbit., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ Letters

It is important to explore the diversity of characteristics of low-mass, low-density planets to understand the nature and evolution of this class of planets. We present a homogeneous analysis of 12 new and 9 previously published broadband photometric observations of the Uranus-sized extrasolar planet GJ 3470b, which belongs to the growing sample of sub-Jovian bodies orbiting M dwarfs. The consistency of our analysis explains some of the discrepancies between previously published results and provides updated constraints on the planetary parameters. Our data are also consistent with previous transit observations of this system. We also provide new spectroscopic measurements of GJ 3470 from 0.33 to 2.42 $\mu$$m$ to aid our analysis. We find $R_{\star}$ = 0.48$\pm$0.04 $R_{\odot}$, $M_{\star}$ = 0.51$\pm$0.06 $M_{\odot}$, and $T_{\rm eff}$ = 3652$\pm$50 K for GJ 3470, along with a rotation period of $20.70\pm{0.15}$ d and an R-band amplitude of 0.01 mag, which is small enough that current transit measurements should not be strongly affected by stellar variability. We also present the most precise orbital ephemeris for this system: T$_{o}$ = 2455983.70472$\pm$0.00021 BJD$_{TDB}$, P = 3.3366487$^{+0.0000043}_{-0.0000033}$ d, and we see no evidence for transit timing variations greater than 1 minute. Our reported planet to star radius ratio is 0.07642$\pm$0.00037. The physical parameters of this planet are $R_{p}$ = 3.88$\pm$0.32 $R_{\oplus}$, and $M_{p}$ = 13.73$\pm$1.61 $M_{\oplus}$. Because of our revised stellar parameters, the planetary radius we present is smaller than previously reported values. The transiting hot Jupiter XO-2b is an ideal target for multi-object photometry and spectroscopy as it has a relatively bright ($V$-mag = 11.25) K0V host star (XO-2N) and a large planet-to-star contrast ratio (R$_{p}$/R$_{s}\approx0.015$). It also has a nearby (31.21") binary stellar companion (XO-2S) of nearly the same brightness ($V$-mag = 11.20) and spectral type (G9V), allowing for the characterization and removal of shared systematic errors (e.g., airmass brightness variations). We have therefore conducted a multiyear (2012--2015) study of XO-2b with the University of Arizona's 61" (1.55~m) Kuiper Telescope and Mont4k CCD in the Bessel U and Harris B photometric passbands to measure its Rayleigh scattering slope to place upper limits on the pressure-dependent radius at, e.g., 10~bar. Such measurements are needed to constrain its derived molecular abundances from primary transit observations. We have also been monitoring XO-2N since the 2013--2014 winter season with Tennessee State University's Celestron-14 (0.36~m) automated imaging telescope to investigate stellar variability, which could affect XO-2b's transit depth. Our observations indicate that XO-2N is variable, potentially due to {cool star} spots, {with a peak-to-peak amplitude of $0.0049 \pm 0.0007$~R-mag and a period of $29.89 \pm 0.16$~days for the 2013--2014 observing season and a peak-to-peak amplitude of $0.0035 \pm 0.0007$~R-mag and $27.34 \pm 0.21$~day period for the 2014--2015 observing season. Because of} the likely influence of XO-2N's variability on the derivation of XO-2b's transit depth, we cannot bin multiple nights of data to decrease our uncertainties, preventing us from constraining its gas abundances.
