Severe pneumonia results in high morbidity and mortality despite advanced treatments. This study investigates thoracic muscle mass from chest CT scans as a biomarker for predicting clinical outcomes in ICU patients with severe pneumonia. Analyzing electronic medical records and chest CT scans of 778 ICU patients with severe community-acquired pneumonia from January 2016 to December 2021, AI-enhanced 3D segmentation was used to assess thoracic muscle mass. Patients were categorized into clusters based on muscle mass profiles derived from CT scans, and their effects on clinical outcomes such as extubation success and in-hospital mortality were assessed. The study identified three clusters, showing that higher muscle mass (Cluster 1) correlated with lower in-hospital mortality (8% vs. 29% in Cluster 3) and improved clinical outcomes like extubation success. The model integrating muscle mass metrics outperformed conventional scores, with an AUC of 0.844 for predicting extubation success and 0.696 for predicting mortality. These findings highlight the strong predictive capacity of muscle mass evaluation over indices such as APACHE II and SOFA. Purpose: Rare cancers constitute over 20% of human neoplasms, often affecting patients with unmet medical needs. The development of effective classification and prognostication systems is crucial to improve the decision-making process and drive innovative treatment strategies. We have created and implemented MOSAIC, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based framework designed for multimodal analysis, classification, and personalized prognostic assessment in rare cancers. Clinical validation was performed on myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a rare hematologic cancer with clinical and genomic heterogeneities., Methods: We analyzed 4,427 patients with MDS divided into training and validation cohorts. Deep learning methods were applied to integrate and impute clinical/genomic features. Clustering was performed by combining Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection for Dimension Reduction + Hierarchical Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (UMAP + HDBSCAN) methods, compared with the conventional Hierarchical Dirichlet Process (HDP). Linear and AI-based nonlinear approaches were compared for survival prediction. Explainable AI (Shapley Additive Explanations approach [SHAP]) and federated learning were used to improve the interpretation and the performance of the clinical models, integrating them into distributed infrastructure., Results: UMAP + HDBSCAN clustering obtained a more granular patient stratification, achieving a higher average silhouette coefficient (0.16) with respect to HDP (0.01) and higher balanced accuracy in cluster classification by Random Forest (92.7% ± 1.3% and 85.8% ± 0.8%). AI methods for survival prediction outperform conventional statistical techniques and the reference prognostic tool for MDS. Nonlinear Gradient Boosting Survival stands in the internal (Concordance-Index [C-Index], 0.77; SD, 0.01) and external validation (C-Index, 0.74; SD, 0.02). SHAP analysis revealed that similar features drove patients' subgroups and outcomes in both training and validation cohorts. Federated implementation improved the accuracy of developed models., Conclusion: MOSAIC provides an explainable and robust framework to optimize classification and prognostic assessment of rare cancers. AI-based approaches demonstrated superior accuracy in capturing genomic similarities and providing individual prognostic information compared with conventional statistical methods. Its federated implementation ensures broad clinical application, guaranteeing high performance and data protection.

Aims: Monitoring drug safety in real-world settings is the primary aim of pharmacovigilance. Frequent adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are usually identified during drug development. Rare ones are mostly characterized through post-marketing scrutiny, increasingly with the use of data mining and disproportionality approaches, which lead to new drug safety signals. Nonetheless, waves of excessive numbers of reports, often stirred up by social media, may overwhelm and distort this process, as observed recently with levothyroxine or COVID-19 vaccines. As human resources become rarer in the field of pharmacovigilance, we aimed to evaluate the performance of an unsupervised co-clustering method to help the monitoring of drug safety., Methods: A dynamic latent block model (dLBM), based on a time-dependent co-clustering generative method, was used to summarize all regional ADR reports (n = 45 269) issued between 1 January 2012 and 28 February 2022. After analysis of their intra and extra interrelationships, all reports were grouped into different cluster types (time, drug, ADR)., Results: Our model clustered all reports in 10 time, 10 ADR and 9 drug collections. Based on such clustering, three prominent societal problems were detected, subsequent to public health concerns about drug safety, including a prominent media hype about the perceived safety of COVID-19 vaccines. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data reveal the complexity and diversity of cellular ecosystems and molecular interactions in various biomedical research. Hence, identifying cell types from large-scale scRNA-seq data using existing annotations is challenging and requires stable and interpretable methods. However, the current cell type identification methods have limited performance, mainly due to the intrinsic heterogeneity among cell populations and extrinsic differences between datasets. Here, we present a robust graph artificial intelligence model, a multi-view graph convolutional network model (scMGCN) that integrates multiple graph structures from raw scRNA-seq data and applies graph convolutional networks with attention mechanisms to learn cell embeddings and predict cell labels. We evaluate our model on single-dataset, cross-species, and cross-platform experiments and compare it with other state-of-the-art methods. Our results show that scMGCN outperforms the other methods regarding stability, accuracy, and robustness to batch effects. Our main contributions are as follows: Firstly, we introduce multi-view learning and multiple graph construction methods to capture comprehensive cellular information from scRNA-seq data. Secondly, we construct a scMGCN that combines graph convolutional networks with attention mechanisms to extract shared, high-order information from cells. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the scMGCN on various datasets.

Background: The rising demand for healthcare resources, especially in chronic disease management, has elevated the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare. While AI-based homecare systems are being developed, the perspectives of chronic patients, who are one of the primary beneficiaries and risk bearers of these technologies, remain largely under-researched. While recent research has highlighted the importance of AI-based homecare systems, the current understanding of patients' desired designs and features is still limited., Objective: This paper explores chronic patients' perspectives regarding AI-based homecare systems, an area currently underrepresented in research. We aim to identify the factors influencing their decision to use such systems, elucidate the potential roles of government and other concerned authorities, and provide feedback to AI developers to enhance adoption, system design, and usability and improve the overall healthcare experiences of chronic patients., Method: A web-based open-ended questionnaire was designed to gather the perspectives of chronic patients about AI-based homecare systems. In total, responses from 181 participants were collected. Using Krippendorff's clustering technique, an inductive thematic analysis was performed to identify the main themes and their respective subthemes., Result: Through rigorous coding and thematic analysis of the collected responses, we identified four major themes further segmented into thirteen subthemes. These four primary themes were: 1) "Personalized Design", emphasizing the need for patients to manage their health condition better through personalized and educational resources and user-friendly interfaces; 2) "Emotional & Social Support", underscoring the desire for AI systems to facilitate social connectivity and provide emotional support to improve the well-being of chronic patients at home; 3) "System Integration & Proactive Care", addressing the importance of seamless communication, proactive patient monitoring and integration with existing healthcare platforms; and 4) "Ethics & Regulation", prioritizing ethical guidelines, regulatory compliance, and affordability in the design., Conclusion: This study has offered significant insights into the needs and expectations of chronic patients regarding AI-based home care systems. Medical datasets inherently contain errors from subjective or inaccurate test results, or from confounding biological complexities. It is difficult for medical experts to detect these elusive errors manually, due to lack of contextual information, limiting data privacy regulations, and the sheer scale of data to be reviewed. Current methods for training robust artificial intelligence (AI) models on data containing mislabeled examples generally fall into one of several categories-attempting to improve the robustness of the model architecture, the regularization techniques used, the loss function used during training, or selecting a subset of data that contains cleaner labels. This last category requires the ability to efficiently detect errors either prior to or during training, either relabeling them or removing them completely. More recent progress in error detection has focused on using multi-network learning to minimize deleterious effects of errors on training, however, using many neural networks to reach a consensus on which data should be removed can be computationally intensive and inefficient. In this work, a deep-learning based algorithm was used in conjunction with a label-clustering approach to automate error detection. For dataset with synthetic label flips added, these errors were identified with an accuracy of up to 85%, while requiring up to 93% less computing resources to complete compared to a previous model consensus approach developed previously. The resulting trained AI models exhibited greater training stability and up to a 45% improvement in accuracy, from 69 to over 99% compared to the consensus approach, at least 10% improvement on using noise-robust loss functions in a binary classification problem, and a 51% improvement for multi-class classification. Blasting constitutes an essential component of the mining and construction industries. However, the associated nuisances, particularly blast vibration, have emerged as significant concerns that pose threats to operational stability and the safety of the surrounding areas. Given the increasing emphasis on sustainability, ecological responsibility, safety, and geo-environmental practices, the impact of blast vibration has garnered heightened attention and scrutiny. Nevertheless, the field still lacks comprehensive phase analysis studies. Therefore, it is imperative to elucidate the research progress on blast vibration and discern its current frontiers of investigation. To address this need, this study employs bibliometric methods and the CiteSpace 6.1.R2 software to analyze 3093 papers from the Web of Science database. Through this comprehensive analysis, the study aims to chronicle the developmental trajectory, assess the present research status, and identify future trends in the field of blast vibration. The findings of this study reveal that research on "blasting vibration" is advancing rapidly, with the number of citations exhibiting a J-shaped growth curve over time. China emerges as the leading contributor to this research, followed by India, and the foremost institution in this field is Central South University in China. Cluster analysis identifies the effects of ground vibration, numerical simulation, blast load, blasting vibration and rockburst hazard as the most prominent research areas presently. The primary research directions in this domain revolve around the rock fragmentation, compressive strength, particle swarm optimization, and ann. The emergence of these keywords underscores a dynamic shift towards a more holistic and multidisciplinary approach in the field of blasting-induced ground vibration. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) provides a high throughput, quantitative and unbiased framework for scientists in many research fields to identify and characterize cell types within heterogeneous cell populations from various tissues. However, scRNA-seq based identification of discrete cell-types is still labor intensive and depends on prior molecular knowledge. Artificial intelligence has provided faster, more accurate, and user-friendly approaches for cell-type identification. In this review, we discuss recent advances in cell-type identification methods using artificial intelligence techniques based on single-cell and single-nucleus RNA sequencing data in vision science. The main purpose of this review paper is to assist vision scientists not only to select suitable datasets for their problems, but also to be aware of the appropriate computational tools to perform their analysis. Developing novel methods for scRNA-seq data analysis remains to be addressed in future studies.

Distance metric learning has been a promising technology to improve the performance of algorithms related to distance metrics. The existing distance metric learning methods are either based on the class center or the nearest neighbor relationship. In this work, we propose a new distance metric learning method based on the class center and nearest neighbor relationship (DMLCN). Specifically, when centers of different classes overlap, DMLCN first splits each class into several clusters and uses one center to represent one cluster. Then, a distance metric is learned such that each example is close to the corresponding cluster center and the nearest neighbor relationship is kept for each receptive field. Therefore, while characterizing the local structure of data, the proposed method leads to intra-class compactness and inter-class dispersion simultaneously. Further, to better process complex data, we introduce multiple metrics into DMLCN (MMLCN) by learning a local metric for each center. Following that, a new classification decision rule is designed based on the proposed methods. Moreover, we develop an iterative algorithm to optimize the proposed methods. The convergence and complexity are analyzed theoretically. Background: Identifying patterns within ICU medication regimens may help artificial intelligence algorithms to better predict patient outcomes; however, machine learning methods incorporating medications require further development, including standardized terminology. The Common Data Model for Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Medications (CDM-ICURx) may provide important infrastructure to clinicians and researchers to support artificial intelligence analysis of medication-related outcomes and healthcare costs. Using an unsupervised cluster analysis approach in combination with this common data model, the objective of this evaluation was to identify novel patterns of medication clusters (termed 'pharmacophenotypes') correlated with ICU adverse events (e.g., fluid overload) and patient-centered outcomes (e.g., mortality)., Methods: This was a retrospective, observational cohort study of 991 critically ill adults. To identify pharmacophenotypes, unsupervised machine learning analysis with automated feature learning using restricted Boltzmann machine and hierarchical clustering was performed on the medication administration records of each patient during the first 24 h of their ICU stay. Hierarchical agglomerative clustering was applied to identify unique patient clusters. Distributions of medications across pharmacophenotypes were described, and differences among patient clusters were compared using signed rank tests and Fisher's exact tests, as appropriate., Results: A total of 30,550 medication orders for the 991 patients were analyzed; five unique patient clusters and six unique pharmacophenotypes were identified. For patient outcomes, compared to patients in Clusters 1 and 3, patients in Cluster 5 had a significantly shorter duration of mechanical ventilation and ICU length of stay (p < 0.05); for medications, Cluster 5 had a higher distribution of Pharmacophenotype 1 and a smaller distribution of Pharmacophenotype 2, compared to Clusters 1 and 3. For outcomes, patients in Cluster 2, despite having the highest severity of illness and greatest medication regimen complexity, had the lowest overall mortality; for medications, Cluster 2 also had a comparably higher distribution of Pharmacophenotype 6., Conclusion: The results of this evaluation suggest that patterns among patient clusters and medication regimens may be observed using empiric methods of unsupervised machine learning in combination with a common data model. These results have potential because while phenotyping approaches have been used to classify heterogenous syndromes in critical illness to better define treatment response, the entire medication administration record has not been incorporated in those analyses. Background: The evolution of artificial intelligence and natural language processing generates new opportunities for conversational agents (CAs) that communicate and interact with individuals. In the health domain, CAs became popular as they allow for simulating the real-life experience in a health care setting, which is the conversation with a physician. However, it is still unclear which technical archetypes of health CAs can be distinguished. Such technical archetypes are required, among other things, for harmonizing evaluation metrics or describing the landscape of health CAs., Objective: The objective of this work was to develop a technical-oriented taxonomy for health CAs and characterize archetypes of health CAs based on their technical characteristics., Methods: We developed a taxonomy of technical characteristics for health CAs based on scientific literature and empirical data and by applying a taxonomy development framework. To demonstrate the applicability of the taxonomy, we analyzed the landscape of health CAs of the last years based on a literature review. To form technical design archetypes of health CAs, we applied a k-means clustering method., Results: Our taxonomy comprises 18 unique dimensions corresponding to 4 perspectives of technical characteristics (setting, data processing, interaction, and agent appearance). Each dimension consists of 2 to 5 characteristics. The taxonomy was validated based on 173 unique health CAs that were identified out of 1671 initially retrieved publications. The 173 CAs were clustered into 4 distinctive archetypes: a text-based ad hoc supporter; a multilingual, hybrid ad hoc supporter; a hybrid, single-language temporary advisor; and, finally, an embodied temporary advisor, rule based with hybrid input and output options., Conclusions: From the cluster analysis, we learned that the time dimension is important from a technical perspective to distinguish health CA archetypes. Moreover, we were able to identify additional distinctive, dominant characteristics that are relevant when evaluating health-related CAs (eg, input and output options or the complexity of the CA personality). Our archetypes reflect the current landscape of health CAs, which is characterized by rule based, simple systems in terms of CA personality and interaction. With an increase in research interest in this field, we expect that more complex systems will arise. This paper describes the process of developing a classification model for the effective detection of malignant melanoma, an aggressive type of cancer in skin lesions. Primary focus is given on fine-tuning and improving a state-of-the-art convolutional neural network (CNN) to obtain the optimal ROC-AUC score. The study investigates a variety of artificial intelligence (AI) clustering techniques to train the developed models on a combined dataset of images across data from the 2019 and 2020 IIM-ISIC Melanoma Classification Challenges. The models were evaluated using varying cross-fold validations, with the highest ROC-AUC reaching a score of 99.48%.

Few-shot learning (learning with a few samples) is one of the most important cognitive abilities of the human brain. However, the current artificial intelligence systems meet difficulties in achieving this ability. Similar challenges also exist for biologically plausible spiking neural networks (SNNs). Datasets for traditional few-shot learning domains provide few amounts of temporal information. And the absence of neuromorphic datasets has hindered the development of few-shot learning for SNNs. Here, to the best of our knowledge, we provide the first neuromorphic dataset for few-shot learning using SNNs: N-Omniglot, based on the Dynamic Vision Sensor. It contains 1,623 categories of handwritten characters, with only 20 samples per class. N-Omniglot eliminates the need for a neuromorphic dataset for SNNs with high spareness and tremendous temporal coherence. Additionally, the dataset provides a powerful challenge and a suitable benchmark for developing SNNs algorithms in the few-shot learning domain due to the chronological information of strokes. Background: Traditional statistics, based on prediction models with a limited number of prespecified variables, are probably not adequate to provide an appropriate classification of a condition that is as heterogeneous as aortic stenosis (AS)., Aims: To investigate a new classification system for severe AS using phenomapping., Methods: Consecutive patients from a referral centre (training cohort) who met the echocardiographic definition of an aortic valve area (AVA) ≤ 1 cm 2 were included. Clinical, laboratory and imaging continuous variables were entered into an agglomerative hierarchical clustering model to separate patients into phenogroups. Individuals from an external validation cohort were then assigned to these original clusters using the K nearest neighbour (KNN) function and their 5-year survival was compared after adjustment for aortic valve replacement (AVR) as a time-dependent covariable., Results: In total, 613 patients were initially recruited, with a mean±standard deviation AVA of 0.72±0.17 cm 2 . Twenty-six variables were entered into the model to generate a specific heatmap. Penalized model-based clustering identified four phenogroups (A, B, C and D), of which phenogroups B and D tended to include smaller, older women and larger, older men, respectively. The application of supervised algorithms to the validation cohort (n=1303) yielded the same clusters, showing incremental cardiac remodelling from phenogroup A to phenogroup D. According to this myocardial continuum, there was a stepwise increase in overall mortality (adjusted hazard ratio for phenogroup D vs A 2.18, 95% confidence interval 1.46-3.26; P<0.001)., Conclusions: Artificial intelligence re-emphasizes the significance of cardiac remodelling in the prognosis of patients with severe AS and highlights AS not only as an isolated valvular condition, but also a global disease., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Masson SAS. Traditional texture cluster algorithms are frequently used in engineering; however, despite their widespread application, these algorithms continue to suffer from drawbacks including excessive complexity and limited universality. This study will focus primarily on the analysis of the performance of a number of different texture clustering algorithms. In addition, the performance of traditional texture classification algorithms will be compared in terms of image size, clustering number, running time, and accuracy. Finally, the performance boundaries of various algorithms will be determined in order to determine where future improvements to these algorithms should be concentrated. In the experiment, some traditional clustering algorithms are used as comparative tools for performance analysis. The qualitative and quantitative data both show that there is a significant difference in performance between the different algorithms. The development of three-dimensional reconstruction technology with cultural heritage in traditional sports allows an accurate portrayal of this aspect of life. Cultural heritage can be documented, recovered, and shown with the tools and techniques. It is an important aspect of self-determination and the ability of marginalized groups to engage in social and cultural life fully. The most challenging aspects of national cultural sports heritage in reconstruction, including armed conflict and war, improper disposal, pollution, poaching, natural disasters, and destruction of heritage sites, have been determined. This article introduces (SCH-AI) new technology for sports cultural heritage (SCH), which develops an improved artificial intelligence (AI) that helps reduce armed conflict and war and promotes tolerance toward religions and people. Athletics improves by bringing individuals together in a social and economic context. Sports engagement boosts community health and productivity. When a clustering algorithm is used, it analyses the data that were provided identifying organic clusters or patterns in the space of features. Clustering is the process of dividing data into distinct subsets. The scenario depicts a strength and conditioning coach who wishes to establish alternative training in sports regimens for players with varying refinement sprint timing. The research of SCH-AI has many advantages; accessing traditional games is regarded as the ideal platform for promoting peace, harmony, and cultural heritage preservation. Sports are also part of the steps to recognize and preserve the rights of people, and it is the protection of their cultural legacy. Cracks are one of the most common types of imperfections that can be found in concrete pavement, and they have a significant influence on the structural strength. The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance differences of various spatial clustering algorithms for pavement crack segmentation and to provide some reference for the work that is being done to maintain pavement currently. This is done by comparing and analyzing the performance of complex crack photos in different settings. For the purpose of evaluating how well the comparison method works, the indices of evaluation of NMI and RI have been selected. The experiment also includes a detailed analysis and comparison of the noisy photographs. Learning similarity is a key aspect in medical image analysis, particularly in recommendation systems or in uncovering the interpretation of anatomical data in images. Most existing methods learn such similarities in the embedding space over image sets using a single metric learner. Images, however, have a variety of object attributes such as color, shape, or artifacts. Encoding such attributes using a single metric learner is inadequate and may fail to generalize. Instead, multiple learners could focus on separate aspects of these attributes in subspaces of an overarching embedding. This, however, implies the number of learners to be found empirically for each new dataset. This work, Dynamic Subspace Learners, proposes to dynamically exploit multiple learners by removing the need of knowing apriori the number of learners and aggregating new subspace learners during training. Furthermore, the visual interpretability of such subspace learning is enforced by integrating an attention module into our method. This integrated attention mechanism provides a visual insight of discriminative image features that contribute to the clustering of image sets and a visual explanation of the embedding features. The benefits of our attention-based dynamic subspace learners are evaluated in the application of image clustering, image retrieval, and weakly supervised segmentation. Our method achieves competitive results with the performances of multiple learners baselines and significantly outperforms the classification network in terms of clustering and retrieval scores on three different public benchmark datasets. Moreover, our method also provides an attention map generated directly during inference to illustrate the visual interpretability of the embedding features. These attention maps offer a proxy-labels, which improves the segmentation accuracy up to 15% in Dice scores when compared to state-of-the-art interpretation techniques.

Despite growing access to precipitation time series records at a high temporal scale, in hydrology, and particularly urban hydrology, engineers still design and model drainage systems using scenarios of rainfall temporal distributions predefined by means of model hyetographs. This creates the need for the availability of credible statistical methods for the development and verification of already locally applied model hyetographs. The methodology development for identification of similar rainfall models is also important from the point of view of systems controlling stormwater runoff structure in real time, particularly those based on artificial intelligence. This paper presents a complete methodology of division of storm rainfalls sets into rainfalls clusters with similar temporal distributions, allowing for the final identification of local model hyetographs clusters. The methodology is based on cluster analysis, including the hierarchical agglomeration method and k-means clustering. The innovativeness of the postulated methodology involves: the objectivization of clusters determination number based on the analysis of total within sum of squares (wss) and the Caliński and Harabasz Index (CHIndex), verification of the internal coherence and external isolation of clusters based on the bootmean parameter, and the designated clusters profiling. The methodology is demonstrated at a scale of a large urban precipitation field of Kraków city on a total set of 1806 storm rainfalls from 25 rain gauges. The obtained results confirm the usefulness and repeatability of the developed methodology regarding storm rainfall clusters division, and identification of model hyetographs in particular clusters, at a scale of an entire city. In this paper, melody and harmony are regarded as the task of machine learning, and a piano arranger timbre recognition system based on AI (Artificial Intelligence) is constructed by training a series of samples. The short-time Fourier transform spectrum analysis method is used to extract the piano timbre characteristic matrix, and the electronic synthesis of timbre recognition is improved by extracting the envelope function. Using the traditional multilabel classification method and KNN (K-nearest neighbor) algorithm, a combined algorithm of these two algorithms is proposed. The experimental results show that the detection rate increases from 61.3% to 70.2% after using the combined classification algorithm. The correct rate also increased from 40.3% to 48.9%, and the detection rate increased to 74.6% when the K value was set to 6. The experimental results show that, compared with the traditional classification algorithm, this algorithm has a certain improvement in recognition rate. We demonstrate the capabilities of two model-agnostic local post-hoc model interpretability methods, namely breakDown (BD) and shapley (SHAP), to explain the predictions of a black-box classification learning model that establishes a quantitative relationship between chemical composition and multi-principal element alloys (MPEA) phase formation. We trained an ensemble of support vector machines using a dataset with 1,821 instances, 12 features with low pair-wise correlation, and seven phase labels. Feature contributions to the model prediction are computed by BD and SHAP for each composition. The resulting BD and SHAP transformed data are then used as inputs to identify similar composition groups using k-means clustering. Explanation-of-clusters by features reveal that the results from SHAP agree more closely with the literature. Visualization of compositions within a cluster using Ceteris-Paribus (CP) profile plots show the functional dependencies between the feature values and predicted response. Despite the differences between BD and SHAP in variable attribution, only minor changes were observed in the CP profile plots. Explanation-of-clusters by examples show that the clusters that share a common phase label contain similar compositions, which clarifies the similar-looking CP profile trends. Two plausible reasons are identified to describe this observation: (1) In the limits of a dataset with independent and non-interacting features, BD and SHAP show promise in recognizing MPEA composition clusters with similar phase labels. To improve the word order ranking effect of English language retrieval, based on machine learning algorithms, this paper combines a semionline model to construct an artificial intelligence ranking model for English word order based on a semionline model and establishes a semisupervised ELM regression model. Moreover, this paper derives the mathematical model of semisupervised ELM in detail and uses FCM clustering to screen credible samples, ELM collaborative training to mark each other's samples, and the marked samples to calculate the output weights of semisupervised ELM regression. In addition, based on continuous learning of OSELMR, this paper uses confidence evaluation to screen out credible unlabeled samples, OSELM collaborative training to mark the credible samples with each other, and credible unlabeled samples to calculate the output weight of SSOSELMR. Finally, this paper designs a control experiment to analyze the model algorithm, compares and counts the parameters, and draws a statistical graph. In order to accurately analyze the movements of sports training using artificial intelligence techniques, an improved fuzzy clustering model is proposed in this study. The fuzzy C-means is used to granulate the multilabel space, and the correlation degree between different variable labels is obtained through information gain. Aiming at the problem of multilabel information classification, an appropriate membership function is selected, which is used to map all information samples and obtain the membership degree of its category. Considering the slow training efficiency of fuzzy support vector machine, the clustering method is used to optimize the fuzzy support vector machine, establish the optimal hyperplane, and complete the classification according to their respective attributes in high-dimensional space. Finally, the proposed algorithm and other algorithms are experimentally compared on the published KTH and Weizmann human behavior data sets. This study was designed to explore learning experiences of university students with dyslexia and factors that could contribute to their success in the university career. Although, great efforts have been made to diagnose dyslexia and to mitigate its effects at primary and secondary school, little has been done at the university level in particular in the Italian context. Indeed in the university context, the availability and possibility to use of support tools, that enable the student to achieve educational success, is still not sufficiently adequate. In this paper we used bivariate association tests and cluster analysis, in order to identify the most suitable compensatory tools and support strategies that can facilitate the students' performance in higher education. The data were obtained through the voluntary participation of Italian students, enrolled in a bachelor degree course, with certified diagnosis of dyslexia. Six groups of students were identified from the cluster analysis, defining specific support tools and learning strategies for each group. Furthermore, through the creation of these six groups, it was possible to describe "profiles" that highlight the risk factors (late diagnosis) and-or protection factors (such as associations, support from friends and family) in analyzing the academic career of students with dyslexia. The language assistance and learning sectors have currently undergone restructuring in the period of fifth-generation (5G) communication and artificial intelligence, influenced by technologies, cloud services, learning techniques, speaker identification, language processing, virtual environments, expanded actuality, and blended actuality. This study proposes a routing protocol of modernized energy-optimized low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchical protocol (M-LEACH) using artificial intelligence and 5G Internet technologies for online English teaching. A dataset of 6,600,000 items, containing 3,250,000 favorable and unfavorable texts in English, is employed. The dataset is preprocessed using normalization to eliminate the impulse noises. Discriminant features are extracted using a variational autoencoder (VAE), and a random forest (RF) classifier is used to classify the features with accurate performance. The performance of the protocol is measured in terms of transmission rate, alive nodes, energy consumption, and a number of transmitted packets. Results show that the proposed M-Leach protocol provides a high transmission rate, maximum transmitted packets, more alive nodes, and minimum energy consumption as compared to other protocols. This paper presents an in-depth study and analysis of the model of English writing using artificial intelligence algorithms of neural networks. Based on word vectors, the unsupervised disambiguation, and clustering of multimedia contexts extracted from massive online videos, the disambiguation accuracy reaches over 0.7, and the resulting small-scale multimedia context set can cover up to 90% of vocabulary learning tasks; user experiments show that the multimedia context learning system based on this method can improve the effectiveness and experience of ESL vocabulary learning, as well as the long-term word sense memory of learners. The results are 30% better. Based on the dependency grammatical relations and semantic metrics of collocations on a large-scale professional corpus, we established a collocation intention description and retrieval method in line with users' linguistic cognition and doubled the usage rate of collocation retrieval on the actual deployment system after half a year, becoming a user "sticky" ESL writing aid, and further defined style. Dictionaries only provide basic lexical definitions, and, even if supported by example sentences, they still cannot meet the needs of ESL authors in terms of expressive accuracy and richness. However, the current machine translation is based on the black box deep neural network construction, and its translation process is not understandable and interactive. This paper proposes a neuroevolution emerging technique that combines the searchability of evolutionary computation and the learning capability of a hybrid artificial neural networks method. Specifically, the proposed growing semiorganizing neural gas (GsONG) is a practical AI methodology utilizing advanced clustering techniques to enhance the learning experience by categorizing the true abilities, skills, and needs of learners, in an inclusive differentiated learning framework. It is a neural network architecture that includes competing and cooperating neurons with an unstructured mode whereby a cooperation-competition process delimits the topological neighborhood of neurons in a grid to identify patterns for which their classes are not known. To optimize the above process, a heuristic method was used that investigates the space of an objective function by regulating the optimal topologies of neurons that form pathway segments in a semi-contemplative manner. Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) becomes a crucial healthcare emergency, which requires earlier detection and accurate assessment. Owing to the increased death rate (around 40%), the earlier recognition and classification of disease using computed tomography (CT) images are necessary to ensure a favourable prediction and restrain the existence of neurologic deficits. Since the manual diagnosis approach is time-consuming, automated ICH detection and classification models using artificial intelligence (AI) models are required. With this motivation, this study introduces an AI-enabled medical analysis tool for ICH detection and classification (AIMA-ICHDC) using CT images. The proposed AIMA-ICHDC technique aims at identifying the presence of ICH and identifying the different grades. In addition, the AIMA-ICHDC technique involves the design of glowworm swarm optimization with fuzzy entropy clustering (GSO-FEC) technique for the segmentation process. Besides, the VGG-19 model was executed for generating a collection of feature vectors and the optimal mixed-kernel-based extreme learning machine (OMKELM) model is utilized as a classifier. To optimally select the weight parameter of the MKELM technique, the coyote optimization algorithm (COA) was utilized. A wide range of simulation analyses are carried out under varying aspects. As part of the AIMA-ICHDC method, ICH can be detected and graded using a single sample. For segmentation, the AIMA-ICHDC technique uses the GSO-FEC method, which is the design of glowworm swarm optimization (GSO). The Internet plays a fundamental part in relentless correspondence, so its applicability can decrease the impact of intrusions. Intrusions are defined as movements that unfavorably influence the focus of a computer. Intrusions may sacrifice the reputability, integrity, privacy, and accessibility of the assets attacked. A computer security system will be traded off when an intrusion happens. The novelty of the proposed intelligent cybersecurity system is its ability to protect Internet of Things (IoT) devices and any networks from incoming attacks. In this research, various machine learning and deep learning algorithms, namely, the quantum support vector machine (QSVM), k-nearest neighbor (KNN), linear discriminant and quadratic discriminant long short-term memory (LSTM), and autoencoder algorithms, were applied to detect attacks from signature databases. The correlation method was used to select important network features by finding the features with a high-percentage relationship between the dataset features and classes. As a result, nine features were selected. A one-hot encoding method was applied to convert the categorical features into numerical features. The validation of the system was verified by employing the benchmark KDD Cup database. Statistical analysis methods were applied to evaluate the results of the proposed study. Binary and multiple classifications were conducted to classify the normal and attack packets. Experimental results demonstrated that KNN and LSTM algorithms achieved better classification performance for developing intrusion detection systems; the accuracy of KNN and LSTM algorithms for binary classification was 98.55% and 97.28%, whereas the KNN and LSTM attained a high accuracy for multiple classification (98.28% and 970.7%). Annotation of cells in single-cell clustering requires a homogeneous grouping of cell populations. There are various issues in single cell sequencing that effect homogeneous grouping (clustering) of cells, such as small amount of starting RNA, limited per-cell sequenced reads, cell-to-cell variability due to cell-cycle, cellular morphology, and variable reagent concentrations. Moreover, single cell data is susceptible to technical noise, which affects the quality of genes (or features) selected/extracted prior to clustering. Here we introduce sc-CGconv (copula based graph convolution network for single clustering), a stepwise robust unsupervised feature extraction and clustering approach that formulates and aggregates cell-cell relationships using copula correlation (Ccor), followed by a graph convolution network based clustering approach. sc-CGconv formulates a cell-cell graph using Ccor that is learned by a graph-based artificial intelligence model, graph convolution network. The learned representation (low dimensional embedding) is utilized for cell clustering. sc-CGconv features the following advantages. a. sc-CGconv works with substantially smaller sample sizes to identify homogeneous clusters. b. sc-CGconv can model the expression co-variability of a large number of genes, thereby outperforming state-of-the-art gene selection/extraction methods for clustering. c. sc-CGconv preserves the cell-to-cell variability within the selected gene set by constructing a cell-cell graph through copula correlation measure. d. sc-CGconv provides a topology-preserving embedding of cells in low dimensional space., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, various medical devices and wearable devices have emerged, enabling people to collect various health data of themselves in hospitals or other places. This has led to a substantial increase in the scale of medical data, and it is impossible to import these data into memory at one time. As a result, the hardware requirements of the computer become higher and the time consumption increases. This paper introduces an online clustering framework, divides the large data set into several small data blocks, processes each data block by weighting clustering, and obtains the cluster center and corresponding weight of each data block. Finally, the final cluster center is obtained by processing these cluster centers and corresponding weights, so as to accelerate clustering processing and reduce memory consumption. Extensive experiments are performed on UCI standard database, real cancer data set, and brain CT image data set. Multi-view clustering has become an active topic in artificial intelligence. Yet, similar investigation for graph-structured data clustering has been absent so far. To fill this gap, we present a Multi-View Graph embedding Clustering network (MVGC). Specifically, unlike traditional multi-view construction methods, which are only suitable to describe Euclidean structure data, we leverage Euler transform to augment the node attribute, as a new view descriptor, for non-Euclidean structure data. Meanwhile, we impose block diagonal representation constraint, which is measured by the ℓ 1,2 -norm, on self-expression coefficient matrix to well explore the cluster structure. By doing so, the learned view-consensus coefficient matrix well encodes the discriminative information. Moreover, we make use of the learned clustering labels to guide the learnings of node representation and coefficient matrix, where the latter is used in turn to conduct the subsequent clustering. In this way, clustering and representation learning are seamlessly connected, with the aim to achieve better clustering performance. Extensive experimental results indicate that MVGC is superior to 11 state-of-the-art methods on four benchmark datasets. Finite Gamma mixture models have proved to be flexible and can take prior information into account to improve generalization capability, which make them interesting for several machine learning and data mining applications. In this study, an efficient Gamma mixture model-based approach for proportional vector clustering is proposed. In particular, a sophisticated entropy-based variational algorithm is developed to learn the model and optimize its complexity simultaneously. Moreover, a component-splitting principle is investigated, here, to handle the problem of model selection and to prevent over-fitting, which is an added advantage, as it is done within the variational framework. The performance and merits of the proposed framework are evaluated on multiple, real-challenging applications including dynamic textures clustering, objects categorization and human gesture recognition.

The rise of FinTech has been meteoric in China. Investing in mutual funds through robo-advisor has become a new innovation in the wealth management industry. In recent years, machine learning, especially deep learning, has been widely used in the financial industry to solve financial problems. This paper aims to improve the accuracy and timeliness of fund classification through the use of machine learning algorithms, that is, Gaussian hybrid clustering algorithm. At the same time, a deep learning-based prediction model is implemented to predict the price movement of fund classes based on the classification results. Fund classification carried out using 3,625 Chinese mutual funds shows both accurate and efficient results. The cluster-based spatiotemporal ensemble deep learning module shows better prediction accuracy than baseline models with only access to limited data samples. In genetics and related fields, huge amounts of data, such as genome sequences, are accumulating, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) suitable for big data analysis has become increasingly important. Unsupervised AI that can reveal novel knowledge from big data without prior knowledge or particular models is highly desirable for analyses of genome sequences, particularly for obtaining unexpected insights. We have developed a batch-learning self-organizing map (BLSOM) for oligonucleotide compositions that can reveal various novel genome characteristics. Here, we explain the data mining by the BLSOM: an unsupervised AI. As a specific target, we first selected SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) because a large number of viral genome sequences have been accumulated via worldwide efforts. We analyzed more than 0.6 million sequences collected primarily in the first year of the pandemic. BLSOMs for short oligonucleotides (e.g., 4-6-mers) allowed separation into known clades, but longer oligonucleotides further increased the separation ability and revealed subgrouping within known clades. In the case of 15-mers, there is mostly one copy in the genome; thus, 15-mers that appeared after the epidemic started could be connected to mutations, and the BLSOM for 15-mers revealed the mutations that contributed to separation into known clades and their subgroups. After introducing the detailed methodological strategies, we explain BLSOMs for various topics, such as the tetranucleotide BLSOM for over 5 million 5-kb fragment sequences derived from almost all microorganisms currently available and its use in metagenome studies. We also explain BLSOMs for various eukaryotes, including fishes, frogs and Drosophila species, and found a high separation ability among closely related species. When analyzing the human genome, we found enrichments in transcription factor-binding sequences in centromeric and pericentromeric heterochromatin regions. The tDNAs (tRNA genes) could be separated according to their corresponding amino acid.

Connected autonomous vehicles can leverage communication and artificial intelligence technologies to effectively overcome the perceived limitations of individuals and enhance driving safety and stability. However, due to the high dynamics of the vehicular network and frequent interruptions and handovers, it is still challenging to provide stable communication connections between vehicles, which is likely to cause disasters. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose an intelligent clustering mechanism based on driving patterns in heterogeneous Cognitive Internet of Vehicles (CIoVs). In the proposed approach, we analyze the driving mode containing multiple feature parameters to accurately capture the driving characteristics. To ensure the accuracy of pattern recognition, a genetic algorithm-based neural network pattern recognition algorithm is proposed to support the reliable clustering of connected autonomous vehicles. The cognitive engines recognize the driving modes to group vehicles with a similar driving mode into a relatively stable cluster. In addition, we formulate the stability and survival time of clusters and analyze the communication performance of the clustering mechanism. Simulation results show that the proposed mechanism improves the reliable communication throughput and average cluster lifetime by approximately 14.4% and 11.5% respectively compared to the state-of-the-art approaches.

Qualitative research remains underused, in part due to the time and cost of annotating qualitative data (coding). Artificial intelligence (AI) has been suggested as a means to reduce those burdens, and has been used in exploratory studies to reduce the burden of coding. However, methods to date use AI analytical techniques that lack transparency, potentially limiting acceptance of results. We developed an automated qu alitative assistant (AQUA) using a semiclassical approach, replacing Latent Semantic Indexing/Latent Dirichlet Allocation with a more transparent graph-theoretic topic extraction and clustering method. Applied to a large dataset of free-text survey responses, AQUA generated unsupervised topic categories and circle hierarchical representations of free-text responses, enabling rapid interpretation of data. When tasked with coding a subset of free-text data into user-defined qualitative categories, AQUA demonstrated intercoder reliability in several multicategory combinations with a Cohen's kappa comparable to human coders (0.62-0.72), enabling researchers to automate coding on those categories for the entire dataset. The aim of this manuscript is to describe pertinent components of best practices of AI/machine learning (ML)-assisted qualitative methods, illustrating how primary care researchers may use AQUA to rapidly and accurately code large text datasets. The relevance of this study lies in improvement of machine learning models understanding. We present a method for interpreting clustering results and apply it to the case of clinical pathways modeling. This method is based on statistical inference and allows to get the description of the clusters, determining the influence of a particular feature on the difference between them. Based on the proposed approach, it is possible to determine the characteristic features for each cluster. Finally, we compare the method with the Bayesian inference explanation and with the interpretation of medical experts [1].

Generation of useful variables and features is an important issue throughout the machine learning, artificial intelligence, and applied fields for their efficient computations. In this paper, the nearest neighbor relations are proposed for the minimal generation and the reduced variables of the functions in the threshold networks. First, the nearest neighbor relations are shown to be minimal and inherited for threshold functions and they play an important role in the iterative generation of the Chow parameters. Further, they give a solution for the Chow parameters problem. Second, convex cones are made of the nearest neighbor relations for the generation of the reduced variables. Then the edges of convex cones are compared for the discrimination of variables. Finally, the reduced variables based on the nearest neighbor relations are shown to be useful for documents classification.

The synergy between Artificial Intelligence and the Edge Computing paradigm promises to transfer decision-making processes to the periphery of sensor networks without the involvement of central data servers. For this reason, we recently witnessed an impetuous development of devices that integrate sensors and computing resources in a single board to process data directly on the collection place. Due to the particular context where they are used, the main feature of these boards is the reduced energy consumption, even if they do not exhibit absolute computing powers comparable to modern high-end CPUs. Among the most popular Artificial Intelligence techniques, clustering algorithms are practical tools for discovering correlations or affinities within data collected in large datasets, but a parallel implementation is an essential requirement because of their high computational cost. Therefore, in the present work, we investigate how to implement clustering algorithms on parallel and low-energy devices for edge computing environments. In particular, we present the experiments related to two devices with different features: the quad-core UDOO X86 Advanced+ board and the GPU-based NVIDIA Jetson Nano board, evaluating them from the performance and the energy consumption points of view. The experiments show that they realize a more favorable trade-off between these two requirements than other high-end computing devices.

Purpose: AI algorithms have shown promise in medical image analysis. Previous studies of ASD clusters have analyzed alignment metrics-this study sought to complement these efforts by analyzing images of sagittal anatomical spinopelvic landmarks. We hypothesized that an AI algorithm would cluster preoperative lateral radiographs into groups with distinct morphology., Methods: This was a retrospective review of a multicenter, prospectively collected database of adult spinal deformity. A total of 915 patients with adult spinal deformity and preoperative lateral radiographs were included. A 2 × 3, self-organizing map-a form of artificial neural network frequently employed in unsupervised classification tasks-was developed. The mean spine shape was plotted for each of the six clusters. Alignment, surgical characteristics, and outcomes were compared., Results: Qualitatively, clusters C and D exhibited only mild sagittal plane deformity. Clusters B, E, and F, however, exhibited marked positive sagittal balance and loss of lumbar lordosis. Cluster A had mixed characteristics, likely representing compensated deformity. Patients in clusters B, E, and F disproportionately underwent 3-CO. PJK and PJF were particularly prevalent among clusters A and E. Among clusters B and F, patients who experienced PJK had significantly greater positive sagittal balance than those who did not., Conclusions: This study clustered preoperative lateral radiographs of ASD patients into groups with highly distinct overall spinal morphology and association with sagittal alignment parameters, baseline HRQOL, and surgical characteristics. The relationship between SVA and PJK differed by cluster. COVID-19 has widely spread around the world, impacting the health systems of several countries in addition to the collateral damage that societies will face in the next years. Although the comparison between countries is essential for controlling this disease, the main challenge is the fact of countries are not simultaneously affected by the virus. Therefore, from the COVID-19 dataset by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering, we present a temporal analysis on the number of new cases and deaths among countries using artificial intelligence. Our approach incrementally models the cases using a hierarchical clustering that emphasizes country transitions between infection groups over time. Then, one can compare the current situation of a country against others that have already faced previous waves. By using our approach, we designed a transition index to estimate the most probable countries' movements between infectious groups to predict next wave trends. We draw two important conclusions: (1) we show the historical infection path taken by specific countries and emphasize changing points that occur when countries move between clusters with small, medium, or large number of cases; (2) we estimate new waves for specific countries using the transition index., (© 2021. The amount of information in the scientific literature of the bio-medical domain is growing exponentially, which makes it difficult in developing a smart medical system. Summarization techniques help for efficient searching and understanding of relevant information from the medical documents. In the paper, an evolutionary algorithm based ensemble extractive summarization technique is devised as a smart medical application with the idea of hybrid artificial intelligence on natural language processing. We have considered the abstracts of the target article and its cited articles as the base summaries and a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm is applied for generating the ensemble summary of the target article. Each sentence of the base summaries is represented by a concept vector of the medical terms contained in it with the help of the Unified Modelling Language System (UMLS) tool which is widely used in various smart medical applications. These terms carry the key information of the sentence which is very useful to find out the semantic similarity among the sentences. Fitness functions of the evolutionary algorithm are mainly defined using clustering coefficient and sparsity index, the concepts of graph theory. After the convergence of the algorithm, the best solution of the final population gives the ensemble summary. Next, the semantic similarity of each sentence in the target article with the ensemble summary is calculated and the sentences which are most similar to the ensemble summary are considered as the summary of the target article. The method is applied to the articles available in the PubMed MEDLINE database system and experimental results are compared with some state of the art methods applied in the Bio-medical domain. Experimental results and comparative study based on the performance evaluation show that the method competes with some recently proposed summarization methods and outperforms others, which express the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. Different statistical tests have also been made to observe that the method is statistically significant.

The present study is devoted to interpretable artificial intelligence in medicine. In our previous work we proposed an approach to clustering results interpretation based on Bayesian Inference. As an application case we used clinical pathways clustering explanation. However, the approach was limited by working for only binary features. In this work, we expand the functionality of the method and adapt it for modelling posterior distributions of continuous features. To solve the task, we apply BEST algorithm to provide Bayesian t-testing and use NUTS algorithm for posterior sampling. The general results of both binary and continuous interpretation provided by the algorithm have been compared with the interpretation of two medical experts.

Autofluorescence microscopy is a promising label-free approach to characterize NADH and FAD metabolites in live cells, with potential applications in clinical practice. Although spectrally resolved lifetime imaging techniques can acquire multiparametric information about the biophysical and biochemical state of the metabolites, these data are evaluated at the whole-cell level, thus providing only limited insights in the activation of metabolic networks at the microscale. To overcome this issue, here we introduce an artificial intelligence-based analysis that, leveraging the multiparametric content of spectrally resolved lifetime images, allows to detect and classify, through an unsupervised learning approach, metabolic clusters, which are regions having almost uniform metabolic properties. This method contextually detects the cellular mitochondrial turnover and the metabolic activation state of intracellular compartments at the pixel level, described by two functions: the cytosolic activation state (CAF) and the mitochondrial activation state (MAF). This method was applied to investigate metabolic changes elicited in the breast cancer cell line MCF-7 by specific inhibitors of glycolysis and electron transport chain, and by the deregulation of a specific mitochondrial enzyme (ACO2) leading to defective aerobic metabolism associated with tumor growth. Background: In pain research and clinics, it is common practice to subgroup subjects according to shared pain characteristics. This is often achieved by computer-aided clustering. In response to a recent EU recommendation that computer-aided decision making should be transparent, we propose an approach that uses machine learning to provide (1) an understandable interpretation of a cluster structure to (2) enable a transparent decision process about why a person concerned is placed in a particular cluster., Methods: Comprehensibility was achieved by transforming the interpretation problem into a classification problem: A sub-symbolic algorithm was used to estimate the importance of each pain measure for cluster assignment, followed by an item categorization technique to select the relevant variables. Subsequently, a symbolic algorithm as explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) provided understandable rules of cluster assignment. The approach was tested using 100-fold cross-validation., Results: The importance of the variables of the data set (6 pain-related characteristics of 82 healthy subjects) changed with the clustering scenarios. The highest median accuracy was achieved by sub-symbolic classifiers. A generalized post-hoc interpretation of clustering strategies of the model led to a loss of median accuracy. XAI models were able to interpret the cluster structure almost as correctly, but with a slight loss of accuracy., Conclusions: Assessing the variables importance in clustering is important for understanding any cluster structure. XAI models are able to provide a human-understandable interpretation of the cluster structure. Model selection must be adapted individually to the clustering problem. Over 60 % of people over the age of 65 will suffer from multiple diseases concomitantly but the common approach is to treat each disease separately. As age-associated diseases have common underlying mechanisms there is potential to tackle many diseases with the same pharmacological intervention. These are known as geroprotectors and could overcome the problems related to polypharmacy seen with the use of the single disease model. With some geroprotectors now reaching the end stage of preclinical studies and early clinical trials, there is a need to review the evidence and assess how they can be translated practically and effectively into routine practice. Despite promising evidence, there are many gaps and challenges in our understanding that must be addressed to make geroprotective medicine effective in the treatment of age-associated multimorbidity. Here we highlight the key barriers to clinical translation and discuss whether geroprotectors such as metformin, rapamycin and senolytics can tackle all age-associated diseases at the same dose, or whether a more nuanced approach is required. The evidence suggests that geroprotectors' mode of action may differ in different tissues or in response to different inducers of accelerating ageing, suggesting that a blunt 'one drug for many diseases' approach may not work. We make the case for the use of artificial intelligence to better understand multimorbidity, allowing identification of clusters and networks of diseases that are significantly associated beyond chance and the underpinning molecular pathway of ageing causal to each cluster. This will allow us to better understand the development of multimorbidity, select a more homogenous group of patients for intervention, match them with the appropriate geroprotector and identify biomarkers specific to the cluster., (Crown Copyright © 2020. Background: An important challenge of big data is using complex information networks to provide useful clinical information. Recently, machine learning, and particularly deep learning, has enabled rapid advances in clinical practice. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in rhinology is an increasingly relevant topic., Purpose: We review the literature and provide a detailed overview of the recent advances in AI and ML as applied to rhinology. Also, we discuss both the significant benefits of this work as well as the challenges in the implementation and acceptance of these methods for clinical purposes., Methods: We aimed to identify and explain published studies on the use of AI and ML in rhinology based on PubMed, Scopus, and Google searches. The search string "nasal OR respiratory AND artificial intelligence OR machine learning" was used. Most of the studies covered areas of paranasal sinuses radiology, including allergic rhinitis, chronic rhinitis, computed tomography scans, and nasal cytology., Results: Cluster analysis and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) were mainly used in studies related to rhinology. AI is increasingly affecting healthcare research, and ML technology has been used in studies of chronic rhinitis and allergic rhinitis, providing some exciting new research modalities., Conclusion: AI is especially useful when there is no conclusive evidence to aid decision making. ML can help doctors make clinical decisions, but it does not entirely replace doctors.
