Medical device reliability is the ability of medical devices to endure functioning and is indispensable to ensure service delivery to patients. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) technique was employed in May 2021 to evaluate existing reporting guidelines on medical device reliability. The systematic searching is conducted in eight different databases, including Web of Science, Science Direct, Scopus, IEEE Explorer, Emerald, MEDLINE Complete, Dimensions, and Springer Link, with 36 articles shortlisted from the year 2010 to May 2021. This study aims to epitomize existing literature on medical device reliability, scrutinize existing literature outcomes, investigate parameters affecting medical device reliability, and determine the scientific research gaps. The result of the systematic review listed three main topics on medical device reliability: risk management, performance prediction using Artificial Intelligence or machine learning, and management system. The medical device reliability assessment challenges are inadequate maintenance cost data, determining significant input parameter selection, difficulties accessing healthcare facilities, and limited age in service. Medical device systems are interconnected and interoperating, which increases complexity in assessing their reliability. To the best of our knowledge, although machine learning has become popular in predicting medical device performance, the existing models are only applicable to selected devices such as infant incubators, syringe pumps, and defibrillators. Despite the importance of medical device reliability assessment, there is no explicit protocol and predictive model to anticipate the situation. The problem worsens with the unavailability of a comprehensive assessment strategy for critical medical devices. Therefore, this study reviews the current state of critical device reliability in healthcare facilities. Medical device failure and maintenance records are essential information, as some nations lack dedicated systems for capturing this valuable data. In addition to making healthcare more intelligent and individualized, machine learning has the potential to transform the conventional healthcare system. Optimizing AI models in decision-making could mitigate the effects of three research issues: malfunctioning medical devices, high maintenance costs, and the lack of a strategic maintenance framework. This study proposes a data-driven machine-learning model for predicting medical device failure. The proposed predictive model is developed using multimodal data of structured maintenance and unstructured text narrative of maintenance reports to predict the failure of 8,294 critical medical devices. In developing the model, 44 varieties of essential medical devices from 15 healthcare institutions in Malaysia are utilized. A classification problem is addressed by classifying failure into three prediction classes: (i) class 1, unlikely to fail within the first three years, (ii) class 2, likely to fail within three years; and (iii) class 3, likely to fail after three years from the date of commissioning. The topic modelling and synthesis strategy: Latent Dirichlet Allocation is applied to unstructured data in order to uncover concealed patterns in maintenance notes captured during failures. In addition, sensitivity analysis is performed to select only the most significant parameters affecting the failure performance of the medical device. Then, four machine learning algorithms and three deep learning networks are evaluated to determine the best predictive model. Based on the performance evaluation, the Ensemble Classifier is further optimized and demonstrates improved accuracy of 88.80%, specificity of 94.41%, recall of 88.82%, precision of 88.46%, and F1 Score of 88.84%. The study proves a reduction in intervention from 18 to 8 features and a reduction in training time from 1660.5 to 901.66 seconds for comprehensive model development.

In this paper, the application of transportation systems in realtime traffic conditions is evaluated with data handling representations. The proposed method is designed in such a way as to detect the number of loads that are present in a vehicle where functionality tasks are computed in the system. Compared to the existing approach, the design model in the proposed method is made by dividing the computing areas into several cluster regions, thereby reducing the complex monitoring system where control errors are minimized. Furthermore, a route management technique is combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm to transmit the data to appropriate central servers. Therefore, the combined objective case studies are examined as minimization and maximization criteria, thus increasing the efficiency of the proposed method. Finally, four scenarios are chosen to investigate the projected design’s effectiveness. In all simulated metrics, the proposed approach provides better operational outcomes for an average percentage of 97, thereby reducing the amount of traffic in real-time conditions [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Water quality analysis is essential to understand the ecological status of aquatic life. Conventional water quality index (WQI) assessment methods are limited to features such as water acidic or basicity (pH), dissolved oxygen (DO), biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N), and suspended solids (SS). These features are often insufficient to represent the water quality of a heavy metal–polluted river. Therefore, this paper aims to explore and analyze novel input features in order to formulate an improved WQI. In this work, prospective insights on the feasibility of alternative water quality input variables as new discriminant features are discussed. The new discriminant features are a step toward formulating adaptive water quality parameters according to the land use activities surrounding the river. The results and analysis obtained from this study have proven the possibility of predicting WQI using new input features. This work analyzes 17 new input features, namely conductivity (COND), salinity (SAL), turbidity (TUR), dissolved solids (DS), nitrate (NO3), chloride (Cl), phosphate (PO4), arsenic (As), chromium (Cr), zinc (Zn), calcium(Ca), iron (Fe), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), E. coli, and total coliform, in predicting WQI using machine learning techniques. Five regression algorithms—randomforest (RF), AdaBoost, support vector regression (SVR), decision tree regression (DTR), and multilayer perception (MLP)—are applied for preliminary model selection. The results show that the RF algorithm exhibits better prediction performance, with R² of 0.974. Then, this work proposes a modified RF by incorporating the synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE) into the conventional RF method. The proposed modified RF method is shown to achieve 77.68%, 74%, 69%, and 71% accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, respectively. In addition, the sensitivity analysis is included to highlight the importance of the turbidity variable in WQI prediction.
