Platycleis rahmoiensis Jaiswara & Shah sp. nov. Figs 1–10 Type material. Distribution. The species is currently known in India from its type locality in Jammu & Kashmir and distribution in Ladakh (Fig. 1). Diagnosis. Platycleis rahmoiensis Jaiswara & Shah sp. nov. can be distinguished from P. kashmira in several aspects in addition to those noted in the key. In the former left FWs mirror is 2 times longer than wide (Fig. 9) as compared to kashmira where it is almost three times longer. Last anal tergite in the new species male almost three times wider than long (compared to P. kashmira, ~1.5-time wider, hind margin bearing broad median sulcus, lateral margins slightly decurving (compared to P. kashmira Uv.) (Fig. 5 A & D); male cercus narrower all across length, narrow apex, outer-lateral surface concave (indicated by arrow, Fig. 5 A & B). Female P. rahmoiensis sp. nov. VIIth sternite narrowing posteriorly, possesses two sub-lateral and one median, obtusely conical tubercles behind the middle (only two sub-lateral tubercles in P. kashmira); posterior margin of VIIth sternite connecting VIIIth sternite straight (angular in P. kashmira) (Fig. 6A & B). Ovipositor of Platycleis rahmoiensis sp. nov. slender, much more upcurved, thicker at base, sharply pointed at apex (as compared to P. kashmira (Fig. 7A), lower margin finely serrated (Fig. 7B). Description. Body size medium and slender in shape. Head. Head rather short, face long, slanting in lateral view (Fig. 4C). Occiput somewhat flat, bearing fine dents (Fig. 4D). Fastigium of vertex trapezoidal, sharply defined by longitudinal furrow at base, convex (Fig. 4A & C), not surpassing the base of antennal socket and is almost two times wider than scapus. Eyes small, round and bulging (Fig. 4A, C & D). Ocelli small, located in triangle; median ocellus ovoid, apical, much below the basal margin of antennal socket; distance from median to lateral ocellus is slightly shorter than between lateral ocelli. Scape as long as broad. Maxillary palpi long; articles 3 and 4 subequal in length; article 5 longer than articles 3 and 4, strongly widened distally, distal margin strongly slanting, dorsal margin parallel to ventral margin (Fig. 4B). Pronotum. Surface minutely pitted; anterior margin wider than posterior, widest at 1/3 rd of the length; anterior margin of DD straight, posterior margin U-shaped; depressed dorsally with a median keel or carina at metazona (Fig. 2 A-B, 3A-B & 4D). Lateral margin of pronotum -straight and descending, with smooth antero-lateral and postero-lateral angle, humeral excision more evident and light striped border (Fig. 4D). Sternum. Prosternum devoid of any spine or process; mesosternum divided medially by a deep V- shaped incision into two triangular lobes; metasternum triangular with a shallow groove in the middle (Fig. 4E). Legs. Thin. FI and FII thinner on mid-length. FIII proximal half almost five times wider than distal half, distal half filiform. TI outer and inner tympanum present (Fig. 4F); dorsal and ventral surfaces with subapical spurs (refer Table 2 for counts) and a pair of long and thin apical spurs, both of the same length. TII dorsal and ventral surfaces with subapical spurs (refer Table 2 for counts) and a pair of long and thin apical spurs, both of the same length or outer longer. TIII dorsal surface serrulated on both inner and outer margins in alternate fashion (refer Table 2 for counts), ventral surface with long, slender sub-apical spurs, arranged alternately (refer Table 2 for counts); joint between tibia and tarsus bearing three pairs of apical spurs, outer spurs shorter; median spur the longest on both inner and outer sides. Male. Wings. Mesopterous. FW reaching to the end of abdomen and not surpassing the abdomen and is equal to hind wings with rounded apex; dorsal field with complete stridulatory apparatus, mirror almost 1.5 times longer than wide and narrow harp (Fig. 9 A&B) (compared to P. kashmira); stridulatory file on ventral side of FW with approximately 64 teeth (Fig. 8C), shape elongated, smooth surfaced (Fig. 8D), average inter-tooth distance in the middle of the file is 10.6 µm (SD/± 0.8 µm; n=14); lateral field radial vein with 9-10 branches, sub-coastal vein with one long and two shorts branches (Fig. 8A). Male Genitalia. Last tergite almost three times wider than long (against to P. kashmira, ~1.5 time wider (Fig. 5A & B); hind margin bearing broad median sulcus, lateral margins slightly decurving (compared to P. kashmira.) (Fig. 5B). Subgenital plate slightly longer than wide, posteriorly bisinuated at 1/5 th of length and bearing a pair of styli (Fig. 5C). Cerci long, thick and inner part with a short hook sub-apically (Fig. 5D). Titillators with broad base, progressively narrowing, minute spines present on posterior half and distal ends curved facing against each other (Fig. 5E&F). Female. Wings. Mesopterous. FW reaching to the end of abdomen and not surpassing the abdomen and is equal to hind wings with rounded apex. Abdomen. VIth sternite broad with parallel margins (convex in P. kashmira); VIIth sternite margins narrowing posteriorly, possess two sub-lateral and one median, obtusely conical tubercles behind the middle; posterior margin of VIth sternite connecting VIIth sternite straight (angular in P. kashmira) (Fig. 6 A & B). Female Genitalia. Ovipositor slender, much more upcurved, thick at base, sharply pointed at apex (as compared to P. kashmira), lower margin finely serrated (Fig. 7B). Coloration. Dorsally body and legs in combination of pale-clay-yellow and olive green, densely interspersed with brown spots (Fig. 2C & 3C); a pale-clay-yellow stripe arising from occiput reaching to the upper margin of eyes; similar stripe arising medially from occiput extending up to vertex; along the stripe towards the posterior margin of occiput patch of dark brown pigmentation; eyes of the body color, lower 4/5 th area ornamented with thin longitudinal dark brown stripes (Fig. 2C & 3C); ocelli pale yellow; maxillary palpi 5 th article with a light brown ring subapically, article 1 st – 4 th ornamented with light brown patches(Fig. 4B & C); lower half of scape greenish; short, vertical green stripe radiating from lower margin of scape towards face (Fig. 4A); under eye area green, ornamented with brown patches (Fig. 4A); pronotum LL with a patch of olive green ornamented with brown spots, sub marginal area pale-clay-yellow (Fig. 2C, 3C & 4D); male FW lateral field transparent sparsely ornamented with brown spots, dorsal field mostly pale yellow with a tint of green, with patches of brown pigment: in the mirror and cells around mirror, area between media vein and cubital veins, harp area, apical field transparent (Fig. 8A); FIII on outer side with a series of short vertical dark brown spots (Fig. 3C); ventral side of abdomen pistachio green (Fig. 2C & 3C); subgenital plate in both sexes is pistachio green ornamented with purple spots in male (Fig. 5C); ovipositor shinning dark brown with base pale yellow (Fig. 7B). Remarks. In Platycleis, males are typically more difficult to identify than females. The structure of female subgenital plate and sternites is the most important morphological character for species identification (see e.g., Willemse et al. 2018). On the other hand, Platycleis males are better recognized by their unique calling song structure (Samways 1976; Ragge 1990). Acoustic signal. The calling song is composed of a mixture of short and long echemes. Most often, echemes comprise macro-syllables followed by micro-syllables (Fig. 10A–C). Duration of echemes ranges between 0.5–2 seconds. The number of macro-syllables shows a bimodal distribution; either the number lies between 4–5 or between 9-18. Duration of macro-syllables varies between 0.038 – 0.076 s (average 0.065s ± 0.008s)) and period between 0.066 – 0.097 s (average 0.086 ± 0.007s). The macro-syllable repetition rate is approximately 12/s (at 28°C). Macro-SRR comparable to other Platycleis species (see Heller 1988 - also fig p. 11; Ragge 1990). Mostly macrosyllables, are followed by micro-syllables per echeme with average count of 5.1 ±1.6. Duration of micro-syllables varies between 0.004 – 0.012 s (average 0.007 ± 0.002s) and period between 0.026 – 0.133 s (average 0.049 ± 0.029s). Occasionally, micro-syllables are not preceded by macro-syllables. The calling song is faintly audible because of its dominant frequency, around 19.8kHz (Fig. 10C), which is the upper limit of the human hearing range.

The macro-syllable repetition rate is approximately 12/s (at 28��C). Macro-SRR comparable to other Platycleis species (see Heller 1988 - also fig p. 11; Ragge 1990). Mostly macrosyllables, are followed by micro-syllables per echeme with average count of 5.1 ��1.6. Duration of micro-syllables varies between 0.004 ��� 0.012 s (average 0.007 �� 0.002s) and period between 0.026 ��� 0.133 s (average 0.049 �� 0.029s). Occasionally, micro-syllables are not preceded by macro-syllables. Platycleis Fieber, 1853 Head large, pronotum depressed with median keel distinct at metazona. Lateral lobes of pronotum with distinct or indistinct white stripe. Ventrally hind tibia with four apical spurs, inner two shorter. Fore tibia with three spines dorsally on outer margin. Tegmina mostly fully developed with a broad apex and with dark spots; transverse veins light coloured. Female subgenital plate bilobate, separated by shallow to deep sulcus. Ovipositor is bright brown, compressed laterally, regularly curved, and usually longer than length of the pronotum. VI-VIIth female sternites modified or unmodified, male last tergite with two processes. Apex of the male cercus blunt, with a single inner tooth. Distribution. Coastal insects may be highly susceptible to population loss due to catastrophic inundation events. At two locations on the east coast of the UK (nature reserve and naturists’ beach), the response of the Nationally Scarce grey bush-cricket,Platycleis albopunctata, to the December 2013 storm surge was determined from long-term transect monitoring of stridulating males. In the post-surge seasons, males were more frequent on the back dunes, which would have been largely unsubmerged during the tidal event. Lower numbers ofP. albopunctatawere recorded on the fore dunes after 2013, probably due to submergence during the surge tide and extensive shingle deposition on its marram-grass,Ammophila arenaria, and open ground habitats smothering overwintering eggs. The heterogeneity of the dune habitat with slacks and ridges may render this species resilient to storm surges.

The third part of a study series on the family Tettigoniidae from Turkey and the Middle East Region is presented, which includes only the subfamily Tettigoniinae of Turkey. A key to tribes, genera and subgenera found in Turkey is proposed. The synonymy of the tribe Platycleidini Brunner, 1893 (with Decticini Herman, 1874) is confirmed. Pezodrymadusa striolata ziyaretensis Koçak & Kemal, 2010 [with Pezodrymadusa affinis (I.Bolívar, 1899)], Anadolua rammei Karabağ, 1952 (with Anadolua burri Karabağ, 1952), Psorodonotus rize Kaya et Çıplak, 2014 (with Psorodonotus davisi Karabağ, 1956), Parapholidoptera intermixta Karabağ, 1961 [with Parapholidoptera indistincta (I.Bolívar, 1899)] are synonymized. Parapholidoptera indistincta (I.Bolívar, 1899) is reinstated as an independent species. Six new species, Pezodrymadusa dentata Ünal, sp. nov., Mixodusa retusa Ünal, sp. nov., Platycleis (Squamiana) supericola Ünal, sp. nov., Platycleis (Squamiana) goeksunica Ünal, sp. nov., Parapholidoptera yarpuzi Ünal, sp. nov. and Eupholidoptera singularis Ünal, sp. nov. are described. The invalidly described Schulmeisteri schulmeisteri Harz is discussed and its only specimen is included in the genus Pezodrymadusa as a new species. The genus Mixodusa Stolyarov and the subspecies, Pholidoptera aptera bulgarica Maran, 1953 are recorded from Turkey for the first time. An overlooked historical record of Psorodonotus venosus brunneri Stshelkanovtzev, 1914 from Turkey is determined. Discussions of many taxa and some records from new localities are presented. Cercus simple, long and spine-like. Last tergite invisible in natural form because of wrinkling. Subgenital plate (Figs. 263, 329) almost square, with median carina and a weak furrow; posterior margin with relatively deep rounded incision. 6th and 7th sternites (Figs. 263, 329 slightly inflated, convex in lateral view. Ovipositor (Figs. 259, 264) slender, long and narrow, regularly and slightly upcurved along its length; almost twice as long as pronotum and 1.45 times shorter than hind femur. Color. Body milky brown with brown and black markings. Antenna unicolor light brown. Behind of eyes (dorso-posteriorly) with 2 short, blackish brown bands. Face straw brown in male, slightly darker with reddish tone in female. Pronotum with distinct typical large spot on paranota, remaining part of pronotum straw brown in male, milky brown in female. Distal part of Sc and R darkened, all the other veins straw brown, cells mostly darkened with brown. Fore and mid femora with irregular blackish spots and short stripes. Inner and outer surfaces of hind femur with typical longitudinal dark bands; anterior end of dorsal surface with brown spots in two rows. Both sides of abdomen with indistinct brownish band anteriorly; dorsal surface with 2 near parallel bands along its length seems a single band with light midline. All sternites straw brown. Ovipositor as typical in subgenus, basal 1/3 ivory color, remaining apical part bright brown. Diagnosis. This new species is recognizable by the male last tergite and the shape of ovipositor. It is different from Platycleis (Squamiana) sinuata Ramma, 1951 by the shape of shorter tegmina in both sexes with narrower distal part (tegmina clearly longer and distal part broader in P. sinuata, Figs. 248, 251), the narrower and longer thoracic auditory spiracle (distinctly wider and both ends rounded in P. sinuata), shape of male last tergite with slender, long, sharp lobes and deep incision (lobes distinctly shorter and wider; median incision shallower and more rounded in P. sinuata, Fig. 249), longer styli (much shorter in P. sinuata), shape of male cerci (shorter and wider in P. sinuata, Fig. 249), slender titillators (basal and apical arms distinctly shorter in P. sinuata) and the shape of clearly slender and longer ovipositor (ovipositor as in Figs. 250, 252 in P. sinuata). Platycleis (Squamiana) supericola ��nal, sp. nov. (Figs. 231���242, 318���323) Description. Male (holotype): Fastigium of vertex 1.2 times wider than width of eye. Antennal scapus 2.5 times narrower than fastigium of vertex, 2 times narrower than width of eye and 1.3 times narrower than frontal groove. Pronotum (Figs. 231���234) flattened in metazona, with a distinct median carina; no lateral carinae; anterior margin almost straight, posterior margin broadly rounded; shoulder incision very weak; paranota with the typical large dark spot bordered by the typical light band. Tegmina (Figs. 231���234) 1.05 times shorter than pronotum, reaching to middle of 3rd abdominal tergite, its apex strongly narrowed. Femora (Figs. 231, 318) unarmed. Thoracic auditory spiracle very narrow and long, concealed under paranota, only visible from the postero-lateral view of pronotum. Last abdominal tergite (Figs. 235, 320) as in usual form in the subgenus; short, wide triangular posterior lobes, slightly incurved at apex, with a distinct triangular incision. Cercus (Figs. 235, 321) long, narrow and straight along its length; inner tooth quite near to apex; basal part with parallel margins, apical part narrowed and narrowly rounded at apex, not pointed. Subgenital plate (Fig. 236) longer than wide, with median and lateral carinae; posterior incision quite deep and triangular; styli twice as depth as posterior incision. Titillators (Fig. 322) with short and thick apical arms, in some paratypes apical arms more slender; basal part of apical arms with sparse and relatively less spines; middle part of titillator distinctly inflated upwards with distinct spines; basal arms strongly upcurved, long and relatively wide. Female: Fastigium of vertex 1.3 times wider than width of eye. Antennal scapus 3 times narrower than fastigium of vertex, 2.4 times narrower than width of eye and 1.75 times narrower than frontal groove. Pronotum (Figs. 237���240) with slightly convex prozona; metazona flattened with a distinct median carina; shoulder incision more distinct than that of male; anterior margin almost straight, posterior margin broadly rounded in dorsal view. Tegmina (Figs. 237���240) 1.2 times shorter than pronotum, reaching to middle of 3rd abdominal tergite; slightly narrowed towards apex; apex broadly rounded, but suddenly narrowed in the middle. Legs (Figs. 237, 319) as in male. Thoracic auditory spiracle very narrow. Last abdominal tergite very short, with 2 wide triangular lobes. Cerci simple, long spine-shaped. Subgenital plate (Figs. 241, 323) slightly wider than long, posterior margin very shallow and triangularly incised, with side sklerite as in other congeners. 6th and 7th abdominal sternites (Figs. 241, 323) inflated in the middle. Ovipositor (Figs. 237, 242) distinctly upcurved; widened in middle part, apical 1/ 3 strongly and sharply narrowed. Color. Body various shades of brown, with dark brown and black spots, stripes and markings. Antenna unicolor light brown in male, milky brown in female. Head milky greyish brown in male, milky brown in female with 2 spots on face; dorsal surface of head 6 short, longitudinal stripes, the narrower 2 stripes lie along the mid line the others behind eyes; in female middle 2 distinct only on fastigium of vertex as 2 spots. Pronotum with typical paranotal large dark spots bordered by typical light band from fore, hind and ventral margins; dorsal surface milky brown in female, slightly darker in male. Sc, distal part of R and some apical branches of M dark brown, all the other main veins and most of the transversal veinlets lightened, milky creamish brown; interveinal fields darker, light brown to black. Fore and mid legs creamish brown with irregular dark (brown to black) spots and stripes. Hind femur with typical longitudinal stripes on outer and inner surfaces and anterior end of dorsal surface. Abdomen light brown with irregular dark spots and short stripes; both sides of 2nd���4th tergites blackish band. Ovipositor bright dark brown in distal 2/3 and ivory color in proximal part. Diagnosis. This new species is different from Platycleis (Squamiana) kurmana Ramme, 1951 by the distinct typical dark spot on paranota (very weak or absent in P. kurmana, Figs. 243, 245), the shape of titillator with longer and narrower basal arms and with clearly infated middle part, shorter styli of male subgenital plate, more distinct shoulder incision in male (indistinct in the male of P. kurmana, Figs. 243, 245), the narrower pronotal auditory spiracle, the shape of slightly longer female tegmina (almost triangular and 1.3 times shorter than pronotum in P. kurmana, Fig. 245), female subgenital plate with shallow and wide triangular posterior incision (posterior margin concave in P. kurmana) and with the distinct longitudinal median furrow (very weak in P. kurmana); the shape of ovipositor (in P. kurmana as in Figs. 246���247); In P. kurmana male last tergite and cerci are as in Fig. 244. It is different from Platycleis (Squamiana) sinuata Ramme, 1951 by the shorter tegmina in both sexes with more pointed apexes (clearly longer and more rounded at apex in P. sinuata, Figs. 248, 251), the slit-like pronotal auditory spiracle (clearly much wider, with parallel sides and with rounded tips in P. sinuata), the shape of male cerci with almost preapical inner tooth (cerci distinctly shorter and wider with inner tooth near to middle in distal part in P. sinuata, Fig. 249), titillators with inflated middle part (middle part of titillator straight or slightly convex in P. sinuata), longer styli of male subgenital plate, the female subgenital plate that wider than long (slightly longer than wide in P. sinuata) with wide triangular incision (posterior incision rounded in P. sinuata), the 6th and 7th abdominal sternites with weaker projections, shape of ovipositor (gradualy and regularly narrowed and less upcurved in P. sinuata, Figs. 250, 252). It is separated from Platycleis (Squamiana) irritans Ramme, 1951 by the shape of titillator with clearly inflated middle part and long, upcurved basal arms, the almost pointed tegmina in both sexes (distinctly more rounded at apex in P. irritans), male last tergite with shorter and wider lobes, and with shallower median incision, much wider ovipositor in the middle part (in P. irritans ovipositor very similar to P. sinuata that gradually narrowed and less upcurved). Platycleis (Squamiana) salmani ��ıplak, 2002 and Platycleis (Squamiana) melendisensis ��ıplak, 2002 are much smaller species. Tegmina in both sexes of P. salmani rounded at apex (Figs. 265, 267); of P. melendisensis much longer (Figs. 270, 272). The shape of titillators and ovipositors are very different in these species (Figs. 268���269, 273���74). The new species is different from Platycleis (Squamiana) weidneri Demirsoy, 1974 by the larger size (clearly smaller in P. weidneri). During a LIFE research project aiming at the implementation of the conservation of the habitats and restoration of coastal wetland areas of Praia da Vitória (Terceira, Azores, Portugal), there was the opportunity undertake a systematic record of several groups of arthropods in three wetland areas: Paul da Praia da Vitória (PPV), Paul do Belo Jardim (PBJ) and Paul da Pedreira do Cabo da Praia (PPCP). The objective of the study was to perform a rapid biodiversity assessment, comparing the three sites in two different years, before and after the implementation of several conservation measures. This project also contributed to improve the knowledge of Azorean arthropod diversity at both local and regional scales, including new taxa for Terceira island and new records for Azores. Taking into consideration those aims, a set of standardised sampling methods were performed, inspired by the COBRA protocol originally developed for spiders. A total of 15,810 specimens belonging to 216 arthropod species and subspecies were collected. Beetles (Insecta, Coleoptera) and spiders (Araneae) dominated, with 81 and 51 taxa, respectively. Two beetle families dominated, Staphylinidae and Curculionidae with, respectively, 22 and 17 species and subspecies. Exotic species were also dominant (132 species and subspecies), the Azorean endemics being restricted to only eight taxa. The remaining 76 species and subspecies are native non-endemic. Two rare endemic species were found with relatively sustainable populations, the Azores Cone-head Conocephaluschavesi (Orthoptera, Tettigoniidae) and the true weevil Drouetiusoceanicusoceanicus (Coleoptera, Curculionidae). A total of six species are novel for the Azores, five exotic (Blediusunicornis, Carpelimuszealandicus, Oenopiadoublieri, Sitonahispidulus, Trichiusaimmigrata) and one possibly native (Pyrrhocorisapterus). An additional 15 taxa are novel for Terceira island, ten exotic (Cheiracanthiummildei, Cylindroiuluslatestriatus, Eumodicogryllusbordigalensis, Nemobiussylvestris, Pissodescastaneus, Psyllipsocusramburi, Trachyzeloteslyonneti, Trigonnidiumcicindeloides, Tychiuscuprifer, Zelotestenuis) and five native (Aegialiaarenaria, Oxypodalurida, Platycleissabulosa, Plinthisusbrevipennis, Tachyuradiabrachys).

Comparison between Platycleis kraussi and Bicolorana kuntzeni Firstly, we made detailed comparison of some morphological features (tegmina and male cerci) of Platycleis kraussi and Bicolorana kuntzeni in order to test if there are differences strong enough to treat these two taxa as separate species. We performed both morphological and morphometrical analysis. We found that specimens with tegmina completely without black markings (Figure 4) occur more often in Ćičarija Mt. and Učka Mt. population (17 males and 13 females), while specimens with tegmina bearing black markings are rarer (5 males and 5 females). Animals with black markings on tegmina are more abundant in Velika Kapela Mt. (20 males and 9 females), while specimens with tegmina bearing no markings are rather rare in this population (2 males and 3 females). Males from Velika Kapela Mt. show variability of a smaller range in cerci coloration (almost all the cerci examined��� 20 males���have distal 1 / 3 of the cerci much darker that the basal 2 / 3, while in Učka Mt. and Ćićarija Mt. population there is no morphotype that can be said to be more common than others (Figure 3). We concluded that these differences are not species specific, but represent the variability within the species. Both old descriptions (Padewieth 1900, Ramme 1931) were performed on small samples without possibility to analyse species variability, while detailed analyses of a larger sample indicate that B. kuntzeni and P. kraussi are indeed the same species. In the analysis of other morphological characters (body coloration, head morphology, veins morphology, males pars stridens morphology, fore and mid legs morphology, hind femora morphology, males X th tergite morphology, males titillators shape, subgenital plate morphology, females ovipositor morphology) no statistical differences between samples were found. Platycleis veyseli Kocak, 1984 Material examined. Moravia mer., Velk�� B��lovice, ��zk�� ��lehle, 1 M, 2 F, 26.ix. 2011, J. Holu��a leg., det et coll. P. veyseli occurs in southeastern Europe, southern Russia, northeastern Turkey, northern Iran, Transcaucasia, and Turkestan (Ciplak et al. 2002). The northwestern edge of its range is in the Pannonian part of eastern Austria and the CR (Franz 1961; Kaltenbach 1970; Holu��a & Chl��dek 1998). P. veyseli has not been found beyond the borders of Pannonia in the CR (Holu��a 2003; Holu��a et al. 2008), in Slovakia (Holu��a & Chl��dek 1998; Kri��t��n et al. 2004), or even in Austria (Zuna-Kratky et al. 2009). In the CR, P. veyseli has been found at only four localities (Holu��a et al. 2012 b). It seems to have disappeared from two localities in the 1960 s. Platycleis buzzettii Massa et Fontana n. sp. (Figs. 11���16) Examined material and type depository: �� holotype, N Iran, Mazandaran, Rudbarak (= Kūh-e Rūdbārak), 950��� 1200 m, 12.VI. 2001, leg. G. Sama (PFCV). A female of a very distinctive species collected in Iran is an undescribed species; because its characteristics are very unique, we decided to describe it. Diagnosis. Large brachypterous species, characterized by long pronotum, stout hind femora and very peculiar subgenital plate; the ratio hind femora/pronotum length (2.35) lies below the smallest known (3.0) for the genus. Female description. Ground colour, light brown with black markings over eyes and in the middle of the fastigium; two clear bands are present above the eyes and two small dark elongated vertical spots are placed laterally in the middle of face; lateral lobes of pronotum mostly light brown with wide lateral margins marked inside by two vertical curved dark bands. Upper surface of hind femora with small dark markings. Abdomen clear brown, with two dorso-lateral vanishing blackish longitudinal bands. Tegmina with typical black spots and reduced veins; radial and median veins thick, nearly parallel, without dark markings between them; wings just shorter than tegmina. Head stout, rising in lateral view above the pronotal disk; eyes scarcely prominent. Fastigium wider than the maximum eye diameter. Pronotum with dorsal surface plane, evidently keeled on metazona and with widely rounded posterior margin; humeral excision on hind margin of lateral lobes not much evident, placed almost at 3 / 4 of total pronotum length. Tegmina reduced, apically round, shorter than the abdomen, ending a little before the end of 1 / 3 of hind femur; wings about 2 / 3 of tegmina length. X th tergite widely concave in the middle, forming a scarcely deep concavity defined by two small subtriangular lateral processes. Cerci long, tapering, clearly acuminate in apical third. VII th sternite modified, swollen on basal two thirds with two small sublateral tubercles placed before the middle and a small transversal keel just before hind margin; fore margin rounded and hind margin straight. Subgenital plate subrectangular, its hind margin widely incised, longitudinally divided for all its length and forming on the hind margin two wide rounded lobes. Ovipositor robust, short and upcurved, light coloured on basal third and black in the distal 2 / 3; lower margin of ventral valvae weakly toothed. Male: unknown. Measurements (in mm). Total length from the head to the apex of abdomen: 25.3; from the head to the apex of hind femur: 42.24; pronotum length: 10.88; pronotum height: 6.4; length of tegmina: 13.6; length of hind femora: 25.6; height of hind femora: 6.56; length of ovipositor: 11.52; hind femora/pronotum length: 2.35. Derivatio nominis: we are glad to name the new species after our dear italian friend and orthopterologist Filippo Maria Buzzetti, who kindly provided us with the unique specimen of this interesting new species. Remarks. In absence of the male, we have tentatively placed this species within the genus Platycleis, but the pronotum shape with scarcely evident humeral excision, and the subgenital plate shape are very unusual, and possibly, when the male will be known a new supraspecific taxon should be established for it. Additionally, Garai (2008) recorded one unidentified female of Platycleis from Minac (Iran), ca. 80 kms from Rudbarak; she sent us some photographs of that specimen, whose aspect looks very like our specimen; nevertheless, it shows a similar pattern of pronotum, hardly excised, but not as elongated as our specimen, a similar VII th sternite, but a different subgenital plate (Figs. 12, 14, 16). Measurements are as follows (mm): total length from the head to the apex of abdomen: 22; pronotum length: 6.5; length of tegmina: 11; length of hind femora: 21; length of ovipositor: 11; hind femora/pronotum length: 3.2 (G.A. Garai, pers. comm.). Platycleis galvagnii n. sp. from Sardinia (Italy) is described. In general habitus the new taxon is close to Platycleis sensu strictu, albeit very small in size. When looking at other characters the species does not seem to fit within one of the groups recognised within Platycleis s.l., but for the moment the species is placed in Platycleis s.s.. The species is characterised by a range of morphological and bioacoustic characters. Its real affiliations with other species within the Platycleis complex need to be established further. For the moment the species is known only from the type locality, Gennargentu mountain in the central part of Sardinia.

Platycleis tessellata wurde erst kürzlich im Genferseebecken entdeckt (Thorens 1995), die einzige Schweizer Region, in welcher sie festgestellt wurde. Ihre Nachweise im Rheintal nahe bei Basel, d. h. sowohl in Frankreich (Oberrhein: Coray 1993) als auch in Deutschland (Baden-Württemberg: Detzel 1998), und ihre wiederholte Beobachtung in der Gegend von Genf sprechen für ihre Zugehörigkeit zur Schweizer Fauna. We selected the male from EskisËehir as Lectotype. The females from Pergamon (IÇzmir) lack two distinct foveolaes on hind margin of subgenital plate, and this population may represent an undescribed species.
