Peace negotiations between the National Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army (FARC-EP) in Habana came to be one of the most significant events in the political history of Colombia within the last hundred years. It was, in some way, the ending point to one of the forms of violence that this country has endured. To examine this violent manifestations, the negotiation process and what has come after is our obligation as scholars. The results of this examination include, from one side, the inequality between the different social sectors and the hegemonic exercise of power from the dominant elites as some of the causes; and from the other side, the armed conflict with its sequel of deaths and refugees as an almost obvious consequence of the former. Being able to understand what happens, may not be the solution to the conflict, but it is a starting point to assimilate the historical and social processes that have occurred, that are currently happening and that will likely come up in a more or less immediate future.
